* ''Literature/TheAlgebraist'', by Creator/IainBanks. A GalacticConqueror wants the cooperation of an alien species, so he summons their ambassadors and proceeds to space hundreds of men, women, and children from the human colony he's just conquered, [[AndIMustScream immobilized yet fully conscious]]. Unfortunately, the aliens have BlueAndOrangeMorality so their response amounts to: "Yes, and what does this have to do with us?" So he then makes the mistake of threatening them directly -- the ambassadors instantly teleport away and activate their military, destroying most of the invading fleet.
