* ChekhovsGunsman: In ''Fast Six'', [[BigBad Owen Shaw]] tells about his older brother and his code. During the credits, Han's death from ''Tokyo Drift'', which takes place after ''Fast Six'', is shown again, [[spoiler: but it's revealed not only that Owen's brother, Ian, is behind the death, but now he's now targeting Dom's crew in revenge, leaving a SequelHook. Also, Ian is being played by Jason Statham.]]

** The fourth movie prominently features Michelle Rodriguez on the poster and in the trailers, even though [[spoiler:her character dies roughly fifteen minutes into the movie]].

** Subaru donated the Impreza WRX STIs for ''Fast and Furious'', as well as ''Fast Five''. They're also said to be donating the new BRZ for ''Fast Six'' as well.

** The cars also count: the first had cheap, yet easily modifiable import cars (such as Honda Civics), the second included more desirable cars from the tuner scene, like the Nissan Skyline and the Mitsubishi Evo. Tokyo Drift followed the same vibe as the second, though this time more regionally specific (it's set in Japan, after all). The fourth mostly had classic, valuable muscle cars and the odd import thrown in, such as the then brand-new Subaru Impreza STI. The fifth followed the same route, however by the ending, the team are in high-end exotics and hypercars. Fast Six seems like it will have an eccletic mix of all cars.

* ReplacementLoveInterest: Creator/EvaMendes as Monica Fuentes in ''2 Fast 2 Furious''. This is promptly squashed by FirstGirlWins in ''Fast & Furious''. [[spoiler:Dom also gets one in ''Fast Five''. Interestingly enough, Dom is ''her'' ReplacementLoveInterest too. One wonders how that's going to play out since Letty is actually alive]].
** [[spoiler: According the official plot for Fast & Furious 6, Letty is TheDragon to the main anatagonist.]]

* MoralDissonance: Brian and Mia's rescue of Dom starts to feel a little disenchanting when they send the other occupants in the bus into a rolling crash that is all but lethal.
** Well, to be fair, the other occupants, driver and guard aside, were all convicted felons, several of whom had certainly committed worse offenses than Dom ever did.

* TimTaylorTechnology: Nitrous Oxide injectors FTW. Or, as the characters once liked to say it, "NAAAAWS." As NOS is a trademark of Holley Performance Products, it was removed from the second film and replaced by generic "[=N2O=]" labels on the steering wheels and was verbally referred to as "spray" and "kick" after Holley got a bit stroppy about its appearance in the first one. The NOS brand returns for films 3-5 though.

* {{Interquel}}: The fourth and fifth films, which are set after the second but before the third movie (the third currently is the last chronologically). Film six is also going to be, if TheStinger of ''Fast Five'' is to be believed.

* FaceHeelTurn: [[spoiler: Letty looks to have undergone one during her time of FakingTheDead.]]

* [[DroppedABridgeOnHim Dropped A Bridge On Her]]: [[spoiler: Letty has all of five minutes of screentime in the fourth film, and the next thing we know, Mia calls up Dom to tell him that Letty has been killed by BigBad Fenix. We get to see what happens later, at least, but it's still awkward and mean-spirited, especially since Michelle Rodriguez [[BillingDisplacement has her name on the posters]]. Eventually subverted since she [[NotQuiteDead wasn't quite dead]] in the fifth movie]].

* DenserAndWackier: ''The Fast and the Furious'' was pretty much a straight cop drama that revolved around the world of street racing. Starting with ''2 Fast 2 Furious'', the focus shifted to the cars themselves, to the point where ''Tokyo Drift'' was almost entirely about the racing. Then, with ''Fast and Furious'', it took ''another'' change in tone, this time becoming an over the top action flick, while ''Fast 5'' somehow took it even further to the point where it was just another completely absurd action movie that's closer to something like ''Film/TheTransporter''. Certainly a far cry from the first movie's original cop drama format.
* DesignatedGirlFight: The trailer for ''Fast Six'' teases a Gina Carano vs. MichelleRodriguez fight. Given the actress's [[ActionGirl reputations]], probably ''not'' for fanservice

* ContinuityNod: The fourth and especially fifth films are loaded with them. The third film gets one retroactively when Dom mentions Han running with him.

** [[spoiler: Although she's only seen through a picture, Letty shows up at the end of ''Fast Five'' hijacking a military convoy]].

* ParentalBonus: In ''2 Fast 2 Furious'', Brian is called "Bullet" once. While in that context it could just be considered a nickname based on how fast he drives, it doubles as a reference to ''{{Bullitt}},'' a movie about a cop that has one of the most famous car chase scenes in the history of cinema.

As you can imagine, the success of the fifth film lead to the creation of the next, ''Fast and Furious 6'', released in May 2013, which takes place shortly after the end of ''Fast Five''. This time the racers work with Luke to take down a mercenary operation, one of heads of which happens to be an old flame of Dominic. As with the last movie, it once again reunites the cast of the previous films.
