-> '''Farva:''' "License and registration... chicken fucker!"

''Creator/{{Broken Lizard}}'s Super Troopers'' is a 2001 comedy film about highway troopers in the state of Vermont. They're on the verge of being shut down and are engaged in a [[InterserviceRivalry turf war]] with the local Spurbury Police. Over the course of the movie, they discover a marijuana shipping operation, and tracking down the culprits may be the key to proving their worth to the state and keeping their jobs.

The squad of troopers play a lot of pranks on each other, and a lot of the comedy comes from their wacky on the job hijinks and laid back attitude. The movie generally has a "snobs versus slobs" attitude comparing the lighthearted, mellow Highway Patrol to the uptight, mildly bigoted local police. A running theme is that both departments are pretty much incompetent, but at least the highway cops are honest about it.

It was an unexpected hit for Fox Searchlight and has since become a CultClassic.

----
!!This film provides examples of:

* AbuseIsOkayWhenItsFemaleOnMale: Ursula tazes Foster at one point (and threatens to rape him at another) and it's PlayedForLaughs. He was being a bit of a jerk, but it would have been less amusing the other way around.
* AluminumChristmasTrees: [[spoiler: Canadians using Vermont's wilderness and small towns as waypoints to run drugs is actually a common problem dealt with by both state and local police. It's actually to the point where heroin has become a serious problem in areas like St. Johnsbury and St. Albans.]]
* AmbiguouslyBrown: A RunningGag about Ramathorn (who is of course actually [[{{India}} Indian]]).
--> They think I'm ''Mexican.''
* AsianAnimation: The term (and an example of) "Afghanistanimation" is used the same way the term [[{{Anime}} "Japanimation"]] [[strike:is]] was used.
* BadassMustache: Having one is standard operating procedure, apparently. The others pick at Rabbit for being unable to grow one, [[spoiler: and in the epilogue scene, the wispy mustache he's got on is actually fake, which he rips off when it's time to [[LetsGetDangerous get serious.]]]]
** They actually pick on Foster to "grow a goddamned mustache" and Foster responds that he hasn't shaven in two weeks.
* BadCopIncompetentCop: You don't want either group of these cops protecting and serving in your area [[spoiler: but at least the troopers aren't drug traffickers.]]
* BeleagueredAssistant: Ursula.
* BerserkButton: Farva has many, not the least of which is messing around with his fast food order.
* BlackComedyRape: [[spoiler:Ursula uses a voice modulator to make Foster think he's about to be raped]].
-->'''Foster''': Oh, god, please don't shoot me. I'm naked.\\
'''Cop''': Drop your coat and grab your toes.\\
'''Foster''': What?\\
'''Cop''': I'm gonna show you where the wild goose goes.
* BlackSheep: Farva is this to the highway troopers.
* BittersweetEnding: After all they'd done, [[spoiler: the station still gets shut down. In the [[WhereAreTheyNowEpilogue epilogue]], when they appear to be delivery men delivering a keg of beer, but they actually took over the Spurbury Police who had been left with one person, Ursula.]]
* ButtMonkey: Toyed with. Farva tries to make Rabbit (the squad Rookie) the ButtMonkey, but Farva himself is the real one and doesn't realize it.
* CaliforniaDoubling: Although set in Vermont, certain scenes were shot on roads in Westchester County, NY.
* CanadaEh: Spurbury is supposedly close to the Canadian border.
* CapuletCounterpart: Ursula. Becomes the ReverseMole eventually.
* CarChase: Obligatory.
* CastingGag: Daniel von Bargen (Grady) played a prison guard in ''TheSilenceOfTheLambs'', while Brian Cox (O'Hagan) played Hannibal Lector himself in ''[[RedDragon Manhunter]]''.
** Kevin Heffernan's parents kept asking for a cameo, so he finally gave them one...where he calls them "chicken fuckers."
* ComicallySmallBribe: The two stoners from the opening try to bribe the beer delivery guy with a five dollar bill.
* CommunicationsOfficer: [[JerkAss Farva]] is given this job at the highway department as punishment after the [[NoodleIncident school bus incident.]]
** Meanwhile, [[FairCop Ursula]] is tasked with the same job at the Spurbury Police Department [[StayInTheKitchen because she's a woman.]]
* DaChief: O'Hagan.
* ADateWithRosiePalms: Mac. And while on duty, no less.
* DeadpanSnarker: Everybody gets their moments.
* {{Defictionalization}}: The Bulletproof Jockstrap. Body armor designed to protect the groin area is now being fielded in Iraq and Afghanistan, nicknamed "Bulletproof Boxers" or "Blast Boxers". Along with painful puns about the military protecting their Privates.
* DepravedBisexual: Both of the Germans, although it's largely played for laughs, and at least one of the heroes (Thorny) is implied to be bi himself.
* DevelopmentHell: The sequel has been here for several years.
* DidntSeeThatComing: Uttered by Mac after [[spoiler: the highway cops get shut down.]]
* DinerBrawl: When the police department is introduced, they pick a fight with the troopers inside a diner.
* DisproportionateRetribution: Rod Farva lives and breathes this trope. He assaults a cashier at Dimpis Burger because of a prank played on him (which he totally deserved), and there was an incident before the film involving a bus of grade school kids which is shown during the credits.
** Also played for laughs as Ramathorn and Rabbit are about to punish a trio of stoners.
---> '''Thorny:''' We're gonna watch you smoke the whole bag.
---> '''Stoner:''' Please no.[[hottip:*:He'd already eaten a bag of pot ''and'' a bag of shrooms and was tripping balls.]]
* DistractedByTheSexy: Rabbit while trying to arrest the ''extremely hot'' German lady.
* DoggedNiceGuy: Foster. Pranking your crush by flashing her works in RealLife, right?
* DoIReallySoundLikeThat: Farva quotes O'Hagan's favorite expression using the same fake Irish accent. The very drunk O'Hagan turns to the other cops and asks them if he sounds this stupid. The other drunk cops make it clear with their expressions that he does.
* DrunkenMaster: [[spoiler: All the troopers are wasted in the final brawl when they fight the Corrupt Cops, especially O'Hagen. It helps that, drunk or not, they are far better fighters than the local cops, as shown earlier in the film.]]
-->[[spoiler:'''Grady:''' What are you, drunk?!]]
-->[[spoiler:'''O'Hagen:''' Drunk enough to kick your ass!]]
* EnhanceButton: Parodied by Ramathorn while photoshopping security camera footage.
--> '''Ramathorn''': ''[types random keys]'' Enhance... ''[types random keys]'' enhance... ''[types random keys]'' enhance...
--> '''O'Hagan''': Just print the damn thing!
* EuropeansAreKinky: the German couple.
** Not much kinkier than Ramathorn and his hippie girlfriend, although the German guy does get off on watching his wife with other men.
* EverybodyCallsHimBarkeep: Farva, to his chagrin.
-->''And stop calling me Dispatch!''
* FaceHeelTurn: For a moment, [[spoiler: Farva, until he reveals that he did it because he never got to do anything, and everything is back to normal.]]
* FakeAmerican: Though he does an extremely convincing job with the accent, Brian Cox is actually Scottish.
* [[FakeNationality Fake German]]: The male tourist is actually Dutch.
* FanDisservice: Farva's "delousing"
** Kevin Heffernan insists in the commentary that his penis wasn't supposed to be visible, but they decided to {{Throw It In}} and horrify us all.
* FanService: When Rabbit and Ramathorn first encounter the German couple, the camera gives a few close-ups of the woman's assets as Rabbit ogles her.
* FatIdiot: Farva.
* FiveManBand:
** TheHero: Ramathorn
** TheLancer: Foster
** [[WackyGuy The Wacky Guy]]: Mac

** TheSmartGuy: Ursula
** TheMentor: O'Hagen
* FunnyForeigner: The Germans.
* GratuitousFrench: "''Litre'' is ''French'' for 'gimme some fuckin' cola ''before I break vous fuckin' lips'''!"
* GroinAttack: Mac gets shot in the groin to test a bullet-resistant cup.
--> "GOOD ENOUGH TO FUCK YOUR MOTHER!"
** Made all the more eyebrow-raising when O'Hagan says: "In my day, the rookie got naked." (shoots the gun and discovers they are using real bullets, accidentally destroying one of his cruiser's windows) "And we used ''blanks.''"
* HeyItsThatGuy:
** Chief Grady is [[OBrotherWhereArtThou the Devil!]]
*** And Francis will be shocked he [[MalcolmInTheMiddle regrew his hands]].
** Jim Gaffigan needs to hand over his license & registration right ''meow''.
** O'Hagen used to [[Film/XMen plot mutant genocide]] for a living.
* InterserviceRivalry: Between the troopers and the local police.
* JerkAss: Farva, along with most of the Spurbury police officers.
* JurisdictionFriction: Over the drug-related cases. [[spoiler: The police have good reason to keep the troopers out of it, though.]]
* LetsGetDangerous:
** In the epilogue.
** Also an OhCrap from [[spoiler: two of the stoner kids from the beginning, when they see Rabbit and Ramathorn are the St. Anky delivery guys.]]
* MindScrew: An unusual case of most of the characters being fans of this trope. Starting right at the beginning of the film, they mess with the heads of stoners by pulling them over a second time after having already pulled them over. They're still pulled over from the last time and desperately exclaim that they can't pull over any further.
* MsFanservice: The German guy's wife, who we get to see quite a lot of.
* NeverHeardThatOneBefore: Ursula being called "Charlie's Angel" by Foster.
* NoodleIncident:
** Played with; Farva's run-in with the school bus is actually shown during the ending credits.
** Also;
--> '''Mac''': "And that was the ''second'' time I got crabs.
*** Which may be an actual [[IncrediblyLamePun "noodle" incident.]]
**** And an OrphanedPunchline
* NounVerber: "Bearfucker! Do you need assistance?!"
* OhCrap: The "snozzberries" stoner gets an epic one in the opening scene, enhanced by the fact that he is ''high off his ass.''
--> '''Stoner''': I'm freakin' out, man!\\
'''Rabbit''': You ''are'' freakin' out, man.
* OnlySaneMan: Ursula. O'Hagan also qualifies for most of the film.
* RagingStiffie: After arresting the [[{{Fanservice}} German tourists]]:
-->'''Thorny''': All right Arlo, why don't you hop up on Uncle Rabbit's lap?
-->'''Rabbit'''': I don't think that's such a good idea, Thorny!
* ScrewedByTheNetwork: Sort of. Bobbi, Thorny's girlfriend and mother of his son has two of her three scenes cut from some television edits. While her second scene where Throny and her have fun with the german couple is edited out obviously because of nudity, her introduction scene where they watch their son Arlo play baseball was probably cut for time contraints leaving almost no introduction of her. Her only remaining scene being where the troopers get a letter from the Governor. Besides a mention of her in an earlier scene TV viewers may be confused on exactly who she is.
* ShowSomeLeg: Taken to the extreme with the German couple; the husband is totally willing to let his wife screw the highway cops to get out of a ticket. Justified, of course, since the car is stolen, and the couple is later shown to be swingers.
* SmugSnake: Chief Grady.
* SorryOciffer: The troopers pull over some kids. The kids had to get rid of their drugs, so one of them eats all their weed before they throw out what was left. The troopers notice this, and play mind games to screw with the stoners before the arrest. (And after.)
-->Littering and... littering aaaaand... \\
...smokin' the reefer.
* TheSquadette: Ursula.
* StayInTheKitchen: The other squad members don't let Ursula do anything, [[spoiler: since she's not involved in their criminal activities]]. However, at least one treats her disrespectfully because she's a woman.
--> I'm not your wife, Smythe.
--> No, and if you were, I'd take ya down a peg or two.
-->[[SarcasmMode Ooooh.]]
* StealthPun - Who wants some St.Anky beer?
* SuddenlySober: Averted. The troopers are all wasted during the climax.
** It's pointed out that Rabbit is actually sober.
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: "Don't spit in that cop's burger..."
-->'''Farva''': *opens his burger* "That look like spit to you?"
-->'''Ramathorn''': Yeah.
-->'''Farva''': Fuck it. *eats burger*
* TrueCompanions: The Troopers are just a big band of buddies at heart.
--> '''Rabbit''': "I don't wanna get transferred... Have to be a rookie again with some ''random dudes''."
--> '''Foster''': "Don't worry about it bro. If it happens, we'll, uh, we'll all just... Stay here. Open up a... Roller disco."
* UnderCoverCopReveal: Subverted at the end of the movie: [[spoiler: The party-goers (and the audience) are lead to believe that the main characters are no longer cops, until they remove their beer delivery coveralls to reveal the Spurbury Police Department uniforms.]]
* WaifFu: Ursula can't weight more than 110 pounds, but she's easily the best hand-to-hand fighter in the entire movie. Played with in the sense that she might also be the only ''trained'' hand-to-hand fighter in the entire movie.
* WeCanRuleTogether: Grady promises Farva a more exciting and dignified job as a local cop, causing him to make a brief FaceHeelTurn.
