** Ryan's EstablishingCharacterMoment. Regardless of testing and the establishing of themes (dogs are symbolic of soldier-like fidelity), questions WOULD have been asked about the military dog being shot at the beginning of the movie. Considering they are a valuable piece of military equipment, costing anywhere from $20-$40k to train in the UK, the willful and obvious destruction of military equipment during a TRAINING MANEUVER would have been badly frowned upon. Also, most dogs are considered higher rank than that of their handler. The culture of soldiers surrounding canine units would have probably gotten Ryan a demotion if not worse.[[note]] Except it is established throughout the movie that Ryan and his crew are not just regular Spec Ops, they are a Black Ops unit, noted for doing the most classified stuff, hell, the entire point Ryan was there was to [[spoiler:capture a real live werewolf]] he may not even have a real rank, just uses "Captain" to let people he works with know he is in charge.[[/note]]
