The Utena/Anthy relationship was also in-character and well-developed, but be warned: the M rating is there for a reason.

Although Utena is a central character throughout the entire ''Symphony'', readers coming to the story cold will probably find the most gratification in her initial story arc, which begins just after the end of the ''Utena'' anime and runs the full length of Symphonies 1 and 2. Be aware, though, that this is the central story cycle of the "Future Imperfect" era of the MegaCrossover series ''UndocumentedFeatures'' -- the incredibly dense fusion of so many sources into a single setting may be off-putting at first (especially as so little is explicitly explained, at least initially). However, most readers will discover they they adapt quickly and begin eagerly anticipating the next unexpected source. ''Highly'' recommended.

* ''Comments:'' Very well written, narrated by a wonderfully characterized Utena who seems to view her life with that mix of amazement and amusement that you can sometimes see in the eyes of the animated version. This story is complete.

* ''Comments'': Well-written, atmospheric piece that mixes "what comes after" with "what comes next" with some interesting (and occasionally amusing) versions of the various characters in their twenties. Has a truly wonderful moment of Awesome near the end.

* ''Comments:'' Fun subversion of the self insert fic genre. One of the authors, who was genuinely unfamiliar with the series at the time, wrote the actions of the pseudo-{{Author Avatar}} Skyler Sands, while the other wrote the rest of the fic around him. Acting out of true ignorance, Skyler manages to thread his way through the main action while still ranging far afield (such as ending up joining the Shadow Girls' avante-garde theatre group). Skillful execution on the parts of its authors -- and ignorant yet GenreSavvy Skyler -- make this an entertaining read. Sadly it's (everybody in chorus now) a DeadFic, abandoned nearly ten years ago. Even so, there's about half a megabyte of inspired work there.

* ''Comments:'' Warning: {{Lemon}} Content here. Sober, almost dark exploration of the effect the Tournament had on one of its most narcissistic participants, that still turns out hopeful at the end. I'm not sure I buy the sex-as-transformational-and-illuminating-moment which Harnum seems to use it as here, but I quite like where that moment leads Nanami in the last part of the story.

* ''Comments:'' The basic plot premise has been seen a thousand times, but this fic takes CharacterizationMarchesOn UpToEleven, giving each of the former Duellists incredible amounts of credible character development, having some trying to improve themselves, and others falling to new lows, but always retaining connection to what they were in the series. Anthy is without doubt the most spectacular example; not only has she found bucketloads of confidence after leaving her brother, she eventually manages to become at least as frightening supernatural force to be reckoned with as he could ever hope to be, all while retaining her humanizing connection to Utena. The fic is sadly left permanently unfinished; Harnum by his own words was unable to express the emotions he wanted with his prose, though it's also possible that he wrote himself into a corner. Nevertheless, what exists of this story is well worth reading - hell, it would be worth writing another fanfic to make your own version of the nonexistant conclusion. It's at least as big a MindScrew as the original series was, in a good sense. Kunihiko Ikuhara couldn't have done a better sequel.

''Ma Vie Et Roses'' attempts to answer that question and subvert the Self Insert paradigm at the same time. Anime fan Skyler Sands wakes up to find himself the newest Rose Duelist at Ohtori Academy -- not that he knows that at first. All he can figure out is that he's been involuntarily shoved into an anime; he eventually figures out which one, but he's damned if he can figure out why, or what he's supposed to do there.
