** Being a noble clan, the Uchiha have very high standards for the education of their children, in addition to being involved in politics on ''at least'' national scale, having working relationship with multiple other clans and staking a visible corner in market for certain craft goods. Contrast with the Senju who are both peasants and exclusively mercenary clan, and as such do not generally educate children outside of the main family, rarely cooperate or ally with other shinobi clans, and do not consider non-warrior carriers at all to the point of stripping the clan name from people who decide to become craftsmen.

** Killing an entire clan down to the youngest children is a perfectly acceptable punishment for peasants getting uppity and attacking nobles - Izuna outright says that if her plot doesn't work out, she ''will'' convince Madara to take the Uchiha's greviances to the daimyo.

* AmbiguousDisorder: As the setting has a rather medieval approach to mental health, it's hard to peg what's really wrong within people's heads.
** Tobirama is shown to be weirded out by Uchiha Maru's standoffish and blunt demeanour, suspecting the boy to suffer from a learning disability. If faithful to ''Fanfic/CompassOfThySoul'', a big part of Maru's neurodivergence comes from being [[RaisedByWolves raised by cats after finding himself orphaned]] but he already had been flagged as quiet and introverted so his lack of social skills potentially was ''built upon'' rather than ''caused'' by his circumstances.
** Ironically, ''Tobirama'' himself can be so focused in his interests it verges on obsession, occasionally flounders when he tries to socialize, is described using unconventional tonal shifts and body language, and has aversion to making eye contact -- something that manifested in his toddlerhood and led Butsuma to believe he was brain-damaged. Being raised by his snow leopards, treated as the BlackSheep of his clan and forced into battle well before puberty certainly didn't help, even if he manages to fake normality.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome:
** No matter how much she's nice about it, Izuna still kidnapped and blackmailed Tobirama into marrying her. He's not okay with that and plots to escape at the first opportunity.
** On the Uchiha's side, the clan acknowledges that an abduction is generally not a basis of a good marriage, which is one of the reason they allow only male concubines -- if he escapes, then at least he will not take an Uchiha child with them.
** Several Uchiha are rather displeased by one of them deciding to marry one of their hated foes instead of slitting his throat, in spite of her rational explanations. Generational hatred doesn't vanish in one day.
*** Several Senju warriors also feel pissed off and disgusted by one of them going "traitor" and literally jumping in bed with the enemy.
** The difference in social status between the Uchiha and the Senju means that a peace on equal terms is impossible. Either the Senju become VoluntaryVassal to the Uchiha or the feud continues until one clan manages to completely subjugate the other.
** Repeated trauma over the loss of his siblings and various kinsmen left Hashirama with a heaping mount of PTSD.
** Tobirama gradually warms up to Izuna not only because she's nice, she's also his main source of stimulation. He's painfully aware that without Touka, he already would have completely fallen under her spell.
** Similarly, Izuna becomes fond of Tobirama [[spoiler:and falls in love with him]] despite repeated warnings by her father that it's unwise to trust a prisoner.
** [[spoiler:In order to ensure conception, Izuna drank a lot of fertility teas and spend as much time as possible with Tobirama since his strong ''yang'' chakra facilitates ovulation. Her medic gives her a likely prognosis of fraternal twins as a consequence.]]
** After being locked up for the better part of two months, Tobirama is allowed to go out on a walk with Izuna -- and quickly feels a tad overwhelmed and overstimulated by all the noise and people around in the compound.
** Touka is weirded out when lying down on a bed since she just spent two months sleeping on a futon. On the same note, Tobirama quickly gets into the habit of wearing kimono and is mentioned to do it more easily after a while.
** [[spoiler:Following the assassination attempt, Tobirama completely loses all respect and affection he ever had for his father, since the man obviously didn't love him if he was ready to murder him without even hearing his side of the story.]]
** [[spoiler:Once it becomes clear that Butsuma's hatred puts the entire clan at risk, he's unceremoniously murdered in his house and ''his own brother'' helps to cover for the real perpetrator.]]
*** [[spoiler:On that note, Mito decides to leave for Uzushio to save her unborn child from the daimyo's revenge since Hashirama refused to depose his father. She only changes her mind after Butsuma is killed]].
** A sudden halt of the hostilities between Senju and Uchiha has been noticed by the people who live around the area, so Tajima sending a letter to the daimyo was more of an explanation than anything.
** Because the Uchiha are disgusted by necromancy, ''Literature/GrandmasterOfDemonicCultivationMoDaoZuShi'' is an utter flop in-clan since they find the main character too repellent and disapprove him not being immediately murdered for his practices, even though it's a several hundred years old classic for the Elemental Nations.
** [[spoiler:In the immediate aftermath of the assassination attempt, Tobirama rapidly goes into shock and had to be taken care of by Izuna. He also notes that he no longer feels safe when sleeping alone in a room, especially if he also has Kiso with him.]]
** One of the reasons why the Uchiha don't make a big deal about their imperial ancestry or make a bid the Chrysanthemum Throne is because the only proof of their legitimacy is the records they keep, and records are easy to fudge, ''especially'' when they date back to ancestors that lived over a thousand years ago.
*** Izuna even notes that it's entirely possible her family isn't descended from the Outsutsuki Dynasty at all, but rather from some minor royal that Indra's grandmother (an imperial concubine) slept with, which is why her sons put someone else on the throne when she died -- they knew they had no actual claim to it. While the marriage of Indra to Tokiwa Denka is better documented, she was a woman, making it less dynastically important than a male line of inheritance.
** Because Izuna's political moves are based on maintaining the "moral high-ground" from the perspective of outsiders, Hashirama (for all his lack of political awareness) is the only one to notice many of the traps in the Uchihas' overtures because he's the only person considering things from the moral and emotional perspective rather than the pragmatic and expedient one. Granted, he doesn't ''see'' them as traps, [[RightForTheWrongReasons just the right thing to do]], but it's enough for Touka to consider him [[spoiler:for an advisory role after she replaces him as Clan Heir]].

* NiceHat: The Terumii Clan has a code for wearing hats. Mention is made of Senju Kabema trying to use that in order to lead a full Uchiha squad to a gruesome demise, giving them headgear claiming they had done ''something'' punishable by death.

* AdultFear: Oh, ''boy''...
** The story opens on Izuna abducting Tobirama in order to have children by him, offering to kill him and his cousin Touka if he doesn't agree and threatening him with [[TheDreaded Tajima's]] impending return from battle to make him decide '''now'''. And if she truly wanted to play hardball, she would have chained him to the wall and forced him to service her and hand over valuable intelligence in exchange of the bare necessities.
** Poor Touka has been abducted, her legs broken to prevent her from escaping, and now she's used as a way to blackmail Tobirama into compliance, with a threat of permanent maiming hanging over her.
** After one month without news from Touka or Tobirama, the Senju hold a memorial as they're declared dead. Hashirama doesn't take this information well.
** Tobirama can imagine several reasons for Izuna to hide her true gender on battlefield, and none of them good.
** If Izuna's plot doesn't work and the Senju continue attacking the Uchiha, she will convince Madara to appeal to the daimyo. Considering the pseudo-Japanese setting, it will result in the entire Senju Clan being turned into ''an example''. [[spoiler:Touka is painfully aware this and it motivates her to escape and warn her clan before Butsuma condemns them all.]]
** Tobirama is taken out of the Diplomatic Quarters for a walk, and when he comes back it's to find [[spoiler:Touka disappeared, leading him to briefly freak over the possibility of the Uchiha hurting her in his absence. She actually managed to escape but to do so, she explicitely left her younger cousin behind, alone among their enemies.]]
** Tobirama accidentally killed several Uchiha children, because he couldn't see them and thought they were enemy warriors. Izuna refuses to keep a grudge as ''she'' also murdered several preteen members of the Senju clan.
** Note that Izuna pointedly talks about using Tobirama's children as hostages against ''Hashirama'' since the Senju Clan Heir wouldn't dare to raise a hand against his nephews, but never suggested ''Butsuma'' would relent on his hostility for his grandchildren's sake. [[spoiler:Not only she's right about Butsuma hating the Uchiha too much to see Tobirama's children as anything but a threat and the living embodiment of Tobi's treason, he actually sends a squad to ''murder'' his second son for marrying Tajima's daughter.]]
** [[spoiler:Touma's mother is horrified when she learns that Butsuma sent her son alongside the assassination squad -- especially when the Uchiha return the bodies and she thinks her pre-teen son was killed. She only ''somewhat'' settles when Izuna assures her that Touma surrendered.]]
** [[spoiler:Hatake Kikuno moved out of her house with her children and kept them away from her husband for ''five years'' because Butsuma insisted that they kill Tobirama after the medics decided that his neurodivergence meant he would be burden on the clan. And after she died, Tobirama was only spared because he learned how to fake neurotypical behaviour and was already a promising warrior.]]

** Because the Uchiha are disgusted by necromancy, ''Literature/MoDaoZuShi'' is an utter flop in-clan since they find the main character too repellent and disapprove him not being immediately murdered for his practices, even though it's a several hundred years old classic for the Elemental Nations.

** ''Literature/MoDaoZuShi'' exists under the title "Great Sage of Evil" and is rather unpopular among the Uchiha since the main character is a necromancer and ''not'' charbroiled on sight.

* AmbiguouslyBi: Izuna is pretty comfortable in masculine clothing and has quite a (justified) reputation as TheCasanova, but is apparently happy with her male concubine.

* SparedByTheAdaptation: [[spoiler:Saburou, one of Madara and Izuna's younger brothers.]] Naka Two-Swords.

** Hashirama notes that what Izuna does to Tobirama is NotSoDifferent from how he himself cultivates his bonsai -- limit opportunities for development, encourage to grow in particular way or direction, and cut away anything unwanted. The irony is that it's ''exactly'' how Butsuma raised both his surviving sons.

* AlternateUniverse: [[WordOfGod Word of God]] has that her ''Naruto'' universe lacks the Otstustuki Clan being a race of [[HumanoidAliens Humanoid Aliens]], Indra and Asura reincarnating, chakra only appearing with Kaguya, and Zetsu existing. Instead, Kaguya was a normal human (if the wife of an Emperor) born in an era where chakra was a topic of esoteric study who ate from the chakra tree and whose accidental release of the Juubi helped cause the end of her dynasty

* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: After realizing that Tobirama is happier with Izuna and the Uchiha Clan than he ever was with the Senju, both Hashirama and Touka decide to leave him be and do their best make peace between the two clans so Tobirama won't have to feel divided between his two families.

** One of the reasons why the Uchiha don't make a big deal about their imperial ancestry or make a claim for more power is because the only proof of their legitimacy is the records they keep, and records are easy to fudge, ''especially'' when they date back to ancestors that lived thousands of years ago. Izuna notes that it's entirely possible her family isn't descended from imperial lineage at all, but rather from some minor royal that Indra's grandmother (an imperial concubine) slept with, which is why her children put someone else on the throne when she died -- they knew they had no actual claim to it.

** Similarly, the fact that the Senju are primarily mercenary clan and their farmers do not use the clan name means that they are considered a nomadic clan and not subject to any daimyo's oversight -- nevermind that they've been squatting just off the Uchiha lands for the last five centuries. [[It ends up catching up to them -- see SinsOfOurFathers and MortonsFork]].

** [[spoiler:Butsuma is murdered couple of years before it happened in ''Compass''.]]

** Similarly, the fact that the Senju are primarily mercenary clan and their farmers do not use the clan name means that they are considered a nomadic clan and not subject to any daimyo's oversight -- nevermind that they've been squatting just off the Uchiha lands for the last five centuries.

* MythologyGag: After learning from Touka that Izuna probably liked and was attracted to Tobirama long before she decided to make him her concubine, Hashirama notes that it's probably a good thing she managed to find a way to act on it before Tobirama figured out a way to kill her -- since Madara most likely knew about Izuna's feelings for Tobirama and wouldn't have reacted well to his sister being killed by the man she had feelings for. All you need to do is take [[JumpingOffTheSlipperSlope one look at canon]] to see that Hashirama's deduction is spot-on, to say the least.

* UnreliableExpositor: Katsuma complains about Izuna's decision to marry Tobirama to his visiting Hatake relatives ([[spoiler:who are kin to the members of the Trading Branch Tobirama accidentally murdered a few months prior]]), while deliberately omitting how Tobirama is also of Hatake-descent and a Leopard Summoner to boot. [[spoiler:He also omits the circumstances that led to Tobirama to killing the aforementioned kin, the fact that he didn't kill ''all'' of their children, and that Tobirama has adopted two of the children he orphaned]].

* HeelRealization: Downplayed example, but both Hashirama and Touka realise that Tobirama was not treated well by the Senju and he's ''really'' much happier as Izuna's prisoner than he was ''ever'' as part of their clan.
* HeinzHybrid[=/=]UnevenHybrid: Contemplated by Tobirama regarding the Uchiha Clan. Between Yori's ''very'' vulpine smile, the tradition of kitsune wedding, focus on Kami worship and the general weirdness of their bloodlimit, he wonders just ''what'' exactly can be found in their family tree.
