Tai got picked due to his past experience to help the other children grow as heroes and help them survive their initial battles. Not only that, since you don't have any connection to a place that has you spend majority of your time there ''trying to not to die'', it cripples your motivation to save it.
** In canon, there weren't any people killed onscreen from the Digimon attacks. It is very tragically averted in here. Because of this, governments around the world are now taking various actions on this new frontier that was revealed to the public as a result, which also averts the ExtraStrengthMasquerade which happened in canon.

** Matt is also highly protective of TK. [[spoiler: Seeing him nearly die validated Matt's concerns about being essentially drafted to fight for a world that he never developed a connection to, ramping it UpToEleven for the rest of the story]].

** During the attacks in the human world, this is the Digidestined's main motivation due to their families in vicinity of the danger.
** After the Myotismon Arc, the Digidestined's parents are constantly worried about the safety of their children in the Digital World.

* AllThereInTheManual: Though the author typically gives the necessary background information from V-Tamer when a particular aspect from it is referenced within the story, reading the manga provides nearly all of the exposition for Tai's darker history. As more of the story's plot continues to be effected by events that occurred within V-Tamer, it is likely a good idea to read it and better understand how the two stories relate to one another. On the occasions that the author has not given the necessary information and simply inserted references to events that transpired in the manga some readers were confused as to where the information originated from.

* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: This is generally how the other Tamers and Digidestined view Tai, they put him on a pedestal because of all he's been through. Interestingly the other chosen children are fine with him being on such a pedestal, Tai however, views them as equals with him just being the leader. Taichi was, however, mistaken about his purpose as leader[[spoiler:, believing it to be leading out of danger and ultimately out of the Digital World. There are no spies or soldiers on his side for the majority of this particular conflict so he ''needs'' to send other kids who did not volunteer to fight into danger.]]
* AndIMustScream: All of Machinedramon's {{Mook}}s are actually prisoners whom he forcibly converts into Sealsdramon and Commandramon. [[spoiler:Andromon becomes an unfortunate victim of this]].

* BadassCape: Taichi's yellow cloak in the original V-Tamer story. He returns to the Digital World with his cloak when he once again [[IncrediblyLamePun takes up the mantle]] after his TenMinuteRetirement.

Taichi is himself this way toward his own sister Hikari, just not in the same way. Matt is also highly protective of TK.

Because they mention that they had all been Agumon, Tai is later able to figure out that the Agumon card is the False Gate Card when the Digidestined are trying to get back home.

* UnskilledButStrong: Knowledge is power, especially in a world of data. Izzy has the crest of knowledge and thus picks things up very quickly but is not the best at ''applying'' what he knows. Only the prior Tamers are more tactically minded than he is but it is by a noticeable margin.

** It's implied to have something to do with Apocalymon, as those are parts of two different lines spoken by him that Taichi just connected.

** Tai to Myotismon, threatening a younger sibling for [[BigBrotherInstinct Neo, Tai, and Matt.]]
** Upon first seeing Neo, Wizardmon[[spoiler:/Sigma's Piedmon]] immediately attempts to attack him, though considering their [[Manga/DigimonVTamer01 last]] [[DevourTheDragon encounter]], this is understandable.
** Machinedramon's VillainousBreakdown is caused by [[spoiler:Tai (correctly) guessing that the former [=MetalGreymon=] still misses Neo and is attempting to hide it behind Chaosdramon X's metallic armor]].
** Implying Tai can't save anyone, helps if they use Daemon's ' the strong live, the weak die' Ideology. Interestingly Tai can self-inflict this as shown in chapter 42, he also ''bloody loses it'' and is said to be melting and will attack anything friend or foe.
