He doesn't have any flashy KingdomHearts or VideoGame/ChronoTrigger magic or ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist'' UsefulNotes/{{Alchemy}}. But he can easily defeat high level Heartless with just a few punches and his Morph Gun can take down [[spoiler:[[TheDragon Joumae]]]].

** TheHeart ''and'' TheChick: Sora from KingdomHearts and Alphonse Elric from ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist'' are TheHeart and TheChick at the same time. Due to both being the nicest, kindest protagonists.

* PunnyName: Any character who had one in the original games, but [[spoiler:Joumae counts somewhat.]] The Lockshield itself, of course, since it's the literal opposite of '[[KingdomHearts Keyblade]]'.

* StarterVillain: In the grand scheme of things Xemnas is this because of ''KingdomHearts'' KudzuPlot.

* ThrowingYourShieldAlwaysWorks: Strike Raid for Alex, modified from [[KingdomHearts Sora's]] version.

* Alchemy: From ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist'', yes.
** AlchemyIsMagic: As in ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist''.

* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: Baron Praxis compared to every other villain, he manipulates Alex into being his hitman and knows better than to trust the enigmatic man in a black coat that offers him unlimited power.
** A better example would be [[spoiler: Braig]] who realizes that TheGoodGuysAlwaysWin in ''KingdomHearts''.

* GenreSavvy: Alex is this, first and foremost. Other characters develop this knowledge over time, in varying degrees.
** WrongGenreSavvy: Alex completely misunderstood the rules of the DargerAndEdgier Haven City leading to some rather traumatic experiances, it takes him two years to become GenreSavvy again.

** Aeleus and [[ChronoTrigger Lavos]] form a literally symbiotic relationship in ''The Wings of Time''.

* CrutchCharacter: Alex, Edward, and Alphonse are this to the ChronoTrigger cast in ''The Wings of Time''. The ChronoTrigger characters all start at around level one while the three Interferences are in the fifties to eighties level wise and their existence allows them to avert the ArbitraryHeadcountLimit of the story making things much easier, [[TropesAreNotBad Although this doesn't affect the quality of the story.]]

** Dilan and [[FullmetalAlchemist Jack Crowley]] for ''The Curse of the Crimson Elixir''. Though they break up when Crowley finds out he's fictional and doesn't take it well.

* {{Sidekick}}: Alex was this to Sora in the first story, but through hard work he got the SidekickGraduationStick in ''The Wings of Time'' and became his own hero.

Sora is a MagneticHero while Alex isn't that charismatic and prefers to rule from behind the scenes, Sora is always honest and upfront, while Alex is a ManipulativeBastard, Sora enjoys his adventures while Alex is all business, Sora goes with the flow while Alex likes to manilpulate events to his advantage, Sora fights with a sword while Alex fights with a shield, Sora likes to fight upfront and honorably with a single fighting style while Alex relies on his ComboPlatterPowers to confuse his enemies, their leadership styles contrast with Sora being a Type IV while Alex is a Type I, and finally, Sora is and idealistic IdealHero while Alex is a cynical AntiHero.
