* IndignantSlap: When the Horned King and Avalina argue about her act of interfering with the lich's chance of getting his revenge on Taran, she ends up slapping him when he tells her that he can hurt her family anytime. They're both shocked, but he remains angry with her for weeks.

Armor Piercing Slap is no longer a trope

* ArmorPiercingSlap: Played with. During the Horned King and Avalina's argument about her interference in the lich's chance to have his revenge on Taran, she suddenly slaps his face. While it doesn't hurt him physically (she can't hit hard), he's shocked that anyone slaps him at all and that it's her of all people. Unfortunately, the slap only makes him hold anger toward her for weeks.

* GetOut: The Horned King tells Avalina this after the above mentioned ArmorPiercingSlap. He does this again when she later comes to start the music hour.

* KickTheMoralityPet: After Avalina convinces the Horned King to spare Taran, the lich is angry with her. After the argument that involves the above mentioned ArmorPiercingSlap, he seethes at her for weeks, prompting her to avoid him out of fear, cry daily and weaken physically. He hardly tries to rectify the situation out of anger and pride, and the situation worsens when Arawn prompts him to say out loud that Avalina means nothing to her and that he should have killed her long time ago. The lich realizes her presence only after saying that. The situation is resolved after the Horned King saves Avalina from drowning and he apologizes for his behavior.

These examples of Surprisingly Realistic Outcome seem to violate at least one of these rules, which disqualifies them: No character reactions (characters get angry, don't forgive, don't change their personality instantly, etc.); Too fantastical (depends on the properties of magic, powers, sci-fi tech, monsters, etc.); Not surprising (a character was warned about the outcome, it's used to provide Karma or An Aesop, or it simply follows normal conventions for this genre or medium); Plot happens (the example only describes an event, but not why audiences would expect a different, unrealistic outcome); Not an outcome (a character just explains why something wouldn't work as expected); More of a Deconstruction (the event has major, lasting effects on the plot, make something more realistic, but not completely realistic, or a parody/fanwork applies realistic consequences to the events of a different work); or fits better under a different trope. See the trope's definition for more details. If you believe a removal was a mistake, please bring it up in the cleanup thread.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: As revealed in the 111th chapter, Taran has not survived witnessing the Horned King's gruesome death without reliving it in his nightmares months after it happened. This in turn has led him to doubt against his better knowledge if he's really better than the lich whose death he played a part in. Since he hasn't confined to anyone about this, these persisting thoughts have become worse.

Up To Eleven is a defunct trope

BigBad, as he goes on a RedemptionQuest.

Soon the Horned King gets an unexpected visitor during a stormy night: Avalina, a 14-year-old brush farmer from the outskirts of Prydain. He initially intends to kill her, but being reminded of the task the Fates have given him, he decides to let her live. Nevertheless, he keeps her as his prisoner to keep Prydain unaware of his return. During the long months the prisoner and her jailer spend time together, the Horned King's task may yet prove out to be possible to complete. But his old mentor, Arawn Death-Lord, is determined to drag him back into the darkness…

* BigBad: Arawn, the Death Lord of Annuvin and the Horned King's former master who was sealed inside the Black Cauldron centuries ago. He becomes the main antagonist because he wants to have his former apprentice re-imprisoned with him so that he can continue torturing him forever. For that end, he's doing everything in his power to prevent Avalina from saving the Horned King's soul. He also qualifies as a NonActionBigBad because of his status as a trapped spirit.

Not So Different has been renamed, and it needs to be dewicked/moved

* NotSoDifferent:
** The Horned King and Mitternacht. The horse was called Death by everyone, feared and hated as well as believed to be a lost cause. Avalina proved that assumption to be unfounded while having a limited time period to do that, and the music helped in that. The third Invisible notes the similarities with Mitternacht and the Horned King's stories. Also, the lich becomes as protective of Avalina as Mitternacht.
** After enduring numerous pranks from the Invisibles for many months, the Horned King makes a mental recapitulation about them and finds in them two traits that remind him of himself; the Invisibles are deeply passionate about their work, like he had been about world domination, and like him, they have endless drive and ruthless determination to make something work, no matter how difficult that might be.

** The Horned King reveals that he collected slain soldiers to form the Cauldron-Born for centuries before he was even sure of the Cauldron's existence. It is a reference to what he said about them after they had been created; "all dead from centuries past". The scene is actually shown in one of the BadDreams made by Arawn.
