** It's incredibly common for fanfic writers and artists to not only depict Pearl and Marina taking in Agent 8 following the events of Octo Expansion, but also have Agent 8 affectionately referring to the duo as her parents, even if she ends up living on her own or with another character (usually Agent 3). This occasionally gets expanded to Agent 4 referring to Marie (to varying levels of seriousness) as her "mom" as well.

Baleful Polymorph is no longer a trope

** A recurring idea is known as Gasterblaster Sans, where he is overtaken by the power source of the Gaster Blasters he uses in the No Mercy run, putting him through a BalefulPolymorph into a skeletal monster of either canine or reptilian appearance. Or sometimes his head just changes shape. Either way, it's always PlayedForDrama. Whether he's fully mentally aware himself and in control during the ordeal varies depending on the author. Sometimes Papyrus is put through this plot as well, due to being related to Sans and the implied connection both share with W.D. Gaster.

** It's extremely common to find Fix Fics that save one - or more - characters that die in canon. Prime examples include Malik's brother Kadar, any of Ezio's family members (if not all), , , or more. Basically, there's at least one fan-favourite rescue target per game, and they have spawned sub-categories on their own. ** In terms of crossovers, there are a few particularly popular ones.
*** Crossing over the "Desmond lives" plot with VideoGame/WatchDogs is far from unheard of even in non-crossover fics, as it's heavily implied they exist in a SharedUniverse. Aiden Pearce gets caught up with Desmond after he canonically kills that Templar executive of Abstergo entertainment. Though it's rare he actually joins the Assassins.

Usually taking place either before canon or as part of a "Desmond lives" plot, Desmond and Alex Mercer coincidentally meet up and start working together to take down the evil corporations in their lives - AFTER the initial wave of distrust and "oh my god WhatAreYou".

Prime examples include Malik's brother Kadar, any of Ezio's family members (if not all), , , or more. Basically, there's at least one fan-favourite rescue target per game, and they have spawned sub-categories on their own. It also very frequently overlaps with Shipping fics, if the target is not a relative.
*** A common variant in the "Ezio's family doesn't die" plot is to let them die but have them stick around or bring them back in an unconvetional fashion several years later. Ghosts seen only via Eagle Vision, actual ghosts, TimeTravel, you name it.
*** In fics where is the one whose life is saved, the following plot will always be about him and Connor trying to explore their extremely complicated relationship with each other and with the overall conflict of the Assassins and Templars.
** "Desmond lives" fanfics are a category all on their own. Basically, Desmond somehow lives (usually brought back via Isu technology that anyone barely understands) and goes on to attack Abstergo on his own - temporarily - away from his friends. He may or may not establish a new branch of the Brotherhood in the process.
*** Clay / Subject 16 uploading his memories/data/whatever to the internet or to Desmond's brain and DNA. Another variant is that Desmond does this. He ends up being Desmond's VirtualSidekick and very much enjoying his newfound freedom. It very frequently overlaps with the "Desmond lives" plot - he may even have a hand in it.
*** A subcategory of the "Desmond lives" fic is Desmond finding out he has a child captured by Abstergo. Obviously the mission is to rescue him and provide him with a much better family life than what Desmond had.
*** Another take on the Desmond finds a new part of the brotherhood aspect is to have Desmond be the founder of a completely separate faction that believes both Assassins and Templars to be extremists. Usually they take issue with the leadership rather with individual members.
** TimeTravel fics are extremely common and come in many flavours. Variants include Desmond being sent to Altair or Ezio's time and help them avert most of their disasters in their lives, the Kenways being sent to each other's eras and having to figure out each other's extremely complicated relationships and family secrets and work out something of a healthy relationship.
*** There's also the CrisisCrossover approach where everyone meets everyone. Usually the enemy is Juno, though it may be Abstergo if the local Templars (if present) decide the modern iteration of their order is a disgrace.
*** PeggySue fics. Notably, they can "target" any character in the franchise, not just Desmond. Usually part of an "X person lives" plot.
** "WhatIf Connor was raised by Haytham", which is basically Haytham finding out what happened to Connor's village shortly after Ziio dies and taking him in. Connor is raised as a Templar in a very different environment.
** People also like to write about Kassandra's (mis)adventures after the end of VideoGame/AssassinsCreedOdyssey, especially since .

Up To Eleven is a defunct trope

** One of the series' most popular fanfic trends is to have an OC, often someone from the real world, join Sora, Donald, and Goofy on their travels, usually during II. Most times, the OC gains a keyblade and falls in love with either Sora or Riku. Some fics even go UpToEleven and give her the χ-blade itself. When poorly written, the fic ends up being a novelization of the game with the OC shoehorned in. ** VideoGame/FireEmblemWarriorsThreeHopes
*** Because of it being an alternate timeline/universe spin-off of the main series, VideoGame/FireEmblemThreeHouses, and it having an extremely large shipping culture, it's not uncommon for fans to create stories and comics about Shez, the protagonist of Three Hopes, being exasperated by their Lord's suddenly falling for Byleth, refusing to kill or attack Byleth despite Shez's vendetta, or even outright turning against Shez in favor of Byleth.

** Thanks to the controversial nature of the third game, particularly its finale, fix-fics centered on it are rather common. However, extent of the rewriting varies greatly, from the entire game to just specific details of the ending. For instance, there's plenty of fix-it fic allowing Shepard to survive a non-Destruction ending and reunite with their love interest, or allowing the geth to survive the destroy ending, with EDI's survival being optional.

* VideoGame/MegaManX:
** The fandom contains a ton of stories about Dr. Cain completing one final case before either retiring or dying.
** A number of fans have taken it upon themselves to try and bridge together the original series and X because, well, it's not like the actual games are going to do this any time soon. Common plot points include Zero killing the original cast (a popular albeit Jossed piece of Fanon), the use of either Evil Energy or Roboenza, and the robot expiration dates so far, Roboenza and the robot expiration dates are Red Herrings in regards to certain aspects of the X series, specifically TheVirus and the concept of Mavericks. Even outside of this, expect to see quite a few Robot Mistresses (female Robot Masters) pop up, since they're so rare in canon (the only ones being Roll and Splash Woman). There is also the tendency to make new scientists for the Classic series, for similar reasons (only Light, Wily and Cossack are around).
** There are fics that don't try to "fix" the story as much as try to have it make sense, like explaining how a computer virus can actually affect a physical environment (even humans) or how reploid "souls" can go back to their bodies. Besides that, there's a lot of fic splintering off from X5/X6, which had multiple endings and was a pretty important point in the series.
** Other stories include ones where Iris never died, ones where Gate lives and gets together with Alia, ones where the author's favorite Maverick never died and became good again ...

** It's popular in some Persona fics to have characters involved in each other's social links/confidants instead of the protagonist, and in some cases, this is done for shipping purposes.
** VideoGame/Persona2 - Eternal Punishment in particular has a huge number of Fix Fics where Tatsuya gets his happy ending. Most of those fics have Jun also somehow remembering the events of Innocent Sin and ending up together with Tatsuya. Maya is slightly less common but also frequent choice.

** Novelizations are a very popular type of fanfic with all the games. Typically they end up changing a few things such as adding extra worldbuilding and covering plot holes.
** The various itterations of Link meeting each other. It was popular even before Webcomic/LinkedUniverse caused an explosion in the genre.
** Modern AU Fics, particularly High School AUs. They are usually presented as TheMagicComesBack settings, taking place in a far future Hyrule that has mostly forgotten the existence of magic except for a select few people.

** A popular idea of angsty fan work involves Raz snapping under the pressure of everything that he's experienced over the last two days, with the straw that breaks the camel's back being Some fan works take it a step further and [[spoiler:have Raz become a new "Maligula"]] or portray him as a StepfordSmiler who is slowly falling apart trying to shoulder everyone's burdens.
** Since Otto Mentalis is the only Psychic Six member Raz doesn't go into the mind of, some people have written their own stories speculating what his mental world would look like, with a few speculating that he is a ShellShockedVeteran like his friends who does a better job of hiding it.

* VideoGame/Metroid: Thanks to the series hitting a nineteen-year long CliffhangerWall after VideoGame/MetroidFusion, there are many Continuation fics that build off the ending's implication that Samus is now a fugitive being hunted by the Galactic Federation. This isn't true any more; it refers to entries on another page that have now been removed.

** This series of video games has the most bullet points of any work on Chickification, and not a single straight example is from an officially published entry! Yet that example listing is far from comprehensive, otherwise it would be a subpage spawing article onto itself. A lot of fans have something against the high number of Action Heroines in the series and prefer stories where more of the females are emotionally fragile whining weepers who don't train for fights.

* There's at least one VideoGame/Warcraft fanfic in which Taretha Foxton leaves Durnholde Keep with Thrall and survives as a result. There are also a few that address the chemistry between Jaina and Thrall during Warcraft 3 (and the expansion) that even Thrall's voice actor doesn't want to admit to. And that's not even getting into events with Garrosh.
