** One common Crossover plot in the fandom is replacing the Human Systems Alliance with a space-capable human civilization from another series, such as the Earth Alliance, UNSC or U.N. Spacy. These "replacement" plots almost invariably have a reenactment of the First Contact War with the Turian Hierarchy, even if it makes no logical sense for the turians and humans to be fighting, and often results a gratuitous CurbStompBattle, even if by all logic (and basic physics) the curb-stomp should be going the other way. For variety, some authors instead use the Batarian Hegemony as the enemy the replacement civilization fights. Some writers imply it's justified because humanity doesn't use the same tech base as other races, therefore the Citadel races have to adapt. Some writers bother to remember that the OutsideContextProblem would apply both ways.

** VideoGame/FinalFantasyXII has a lot of juicy bits of FanficFuel that are not very detailed (or are left up to the audience's imagination) in canon, and the fandom runs with this:
*** There are many fics about how Balthier met Fran.
*** Another bit of backstory often fleshed out is exactly how Noah/Gabranth came to hate his twin brother Basch so much, which is only briefly addressed in-game.
*** A third popular topic along these lines is how and why Vayne killed his two older brothers at their father's behest, also often incorporating their father's in-game remark that he does not want to see his sons war with each other again.
*** Post-game fics about Larsa's reign as emperor are common, usually with an emphasis on how difficult it would actually be for a child to rule an empire and sometimes with a DownerEnding where he is killed young.

** "Stomp fics" in which humanity or some other faction utterly curb stomps the species of the Citadel Council; like the above plots, there will likely be a reenactment of the First Contact War, which may go the same way as canon, but will then result in the humans slaughtering the turians. You can also probably expect the batarians to get completely thrashed, and in some cases, outright wiped out. The Reapers will also likely not play a prominent role in these stories, or will be completely omitted.

%%* * FandomSpecificPlot/AssassinsCreed

* Franchise/AssassinsCreed:
** It's extremely common to find Fix Fics that save one - or more - characters that die in canon. Prime examples include Malik's brother Kadar, any of Ezio's family members (if not all), , , or more. Basically, there's at least one fan-favourite rescue target per game, and they have spawned sub-categories on their own. It also very frequently overlaps with Shipping fics, if the target is not a relative.
*** A common variant in the "Ezio's family doesn't die" plot is to let them die but have them stick around or bring them back in an unconvetional fashion several years later. Ghosts seen only via Eagle Vision, actual ghosts, TimeTravel, you name it.
*** In fics where is the one whose life is saved, the following plot will always be about him and Connor trying to explore their extremely complicated relationship with each other and with the overall conflict of the Assassins and Templars.
** "Desmond lives" fanfics are a category all on their own. Basically, Desmond somehow lives (usually brought back via Isu technology that anyone barely understands) and goes on to attack Abstergo on his own - temporarily - away from his friends. He may or may not establish a new branch of the Brotherhood in the process.
*** Clay / Subject 16 uploading his memories/data/whatever to the internet or to Desmond's brain and DNA. Another variant is that Desmond does this. He ends up being Desmond's VirtualSidekick and very much enjoying his newfound freedom. It very frequently overlaps with the "Desmond lives" plot - he may even have a hand in it.
*** A subcategory of the "Desmond lives" fic is Desmond finding out he has a child captured by Abstergo. Obviously the mission is to rescue him and provide him with a much better family life than what Desmond had.
*** Another take on the Desmond finds a new part of the brotherhood aspect is to have Desmond be the founder of a completely separate faction that believes both Assassins and Templars to be extremists. Usually they take issue with the leadership rather with individual members.
** TimeTravel fics are extremely common and come in many flavours. Variants include Desmond being sent to Altair or Ezio's time and help them avert most of their disasters in their lives, the Kenways being sent to each other's eras and having to figure out each other's extremely complicated relationships and family secrets and work out something of a healthy relationship.
*** There's also the CrisisCrossover approach where everyone meets everyone. Usually the enemy is Juno, though it may be Abstergo if the local Templars (if present) decide the modern iteration of their order is a disgrace.
*** PeggySue fics. Notably, they can "target" any character in the franchise, not just Desmond. Usually part of an "X person lives" plot.
** "WhatIf Connor was raised by Haytham", which is basically Haytham finding out what happened to Connor's village shortly after Ziio dies and taking him in. Connor is raised as a Templar in a very different environment.
** People also like to write about Kassandra's (mis)adventures after the end of VideoGame/AssassinsCreedOdyssey, especially since .
** OC characters joining the Templars or the Brotherhood. Usually a romance fic.
** In terms of crossovers, there are a few particularly popular ones.
*** Crossing over the "Desmond lives" plot with VideoGame/WatchDogs is far from unheard of even in non-crossover fics, as it's heavily implied they exist in a SharedUniverse. Aiden Pearce gets caught up with Desmond after he canonically kills that Templar executive of Abstergo entertainment. Though it's rare he actually joins the Assassins.
*** VideoGame/Prototype crossovers are extremely popular, to the point that they have the FanNickname "[=ProtoCreed=]". Usually taking place either before canon or as part of a "Desmond lives" plot, Desmond and Alex Mercer coincidentally meet up and start working together to take down the evil corporations in their lives - AFTER the initial wave of distrust and "oh my god WhatAreYou".

So I just came here to get Xenoblade, but there are a lot of other games that can definitely have their own pages. Unfortunately, it's a pain to do them, because you have to make sure to consolidate the lists from their YMMV pages. I'll try to get a few, but I thought leaving the redlinks commented out was better than nothing.

* VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles2 has a good number of RoleSwapAU stories for the two Aegises, with Malos becoming Rex's Blade while Mythra is the BigBad. It helps that canon provides an easy explanation for the difference: Since Amalthus obtained both Aegis cores and only awakened one on a whim, he could've simply grabbed the other one instead. Despite his more heroic role, Malos tends to retain his abrasive personality, sometimes driving a wedge between him and Rex. The two learning to work together often makes up much of the early conflict. Since Pyra/Mythra are on the villains' side, Nia often gets promoted to Rex's primary s -- if he's not being paired with Malos, that is.
