*** Please try to keep a neutral tone while giving examples. This is not an ItJustBugsMe page. The implication was that the humans were trying diplomatic solutions, but were steadfast in the demand that the Na'Vi move their home so that it could be razed. Ultimately, it comes down to 'I'll give you money to move. If you don't want to, I'll force you to move and it's your fault for not accepting the money.' When efforts to teach the RDA why the tree was so significant failed, it was decided that they were getting nowhere and that the humans would never understand. As for attacks on humans, the RDA were actively destroying great sections of the jungle, disrupting the ecology, and endangering the equilibrium that the Na'Vi try to protect.

** The arguements against the humans kind of falls apart when you realize that it's the NA'VI who started the problem. There were diplomatic solutions going around, and then the Na'vi, for whatever reason, simply declared humans unable to "see" and proceeds to install a policy of ''slaughtering every human they see''. And then there's the problem of essentially committing genocide on the human race because [[Unobtainium]] is not only a profit for the RDA, but also an essential resource for human life, now. There are helpless human children and infants now dying because of that, an InferredHolocaust that is completely glossed over to preach how the Na'Vi are ''so'' superior.

* Deliberately played with in William Castle's ''Mr. Sardonicus''. The title character is quite similar to a pre-FailPolish [[ThePhantomOfTheOpera Phantom of the Opera]] (driven insane by a disfigurement, searching for love, etc.). Reportedly, two endings were filmed: a GoodEnding where Sardonicus is cured and redeemed, and a BadEnding where he dies. This being a William Castle movie, audiences were allowed to vote on whether they thought the character deserved mercy. ''Every damn time'', they killed him, and it looks like the mercy ending is lost forever, if it ever existed. Sounds harsh? It turns out that a guy who looks like [[http://www.accesshollywood.com/content/images/69/230x306/69397_gerard-butler-as-the-phantom.jpg this]] is easier to forgive than a guy who looks like [[http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2364/2186924247_5cb2d6583f.jpg?v=0 this]].

* ''Hard Candy'' has Haley, played by a pre-Juno Ellen Page. She has hordes of fangirls cheering her on and calling her a righteous angel. They ignore the fact that she's clearly a mentally disturbed and sociopathic girl who ties up a man and tortures him for hours on end, eventually [[spoiler: making him believe she's castrated him and forcing him to commit suicide]]. Because said man is a child molester Haley is held as a paragon of feminism and her fans ignore the obvious fact that she's using the child molester as an excuse to further her own twisted desires. When it comes down to it Haley is just as bad as the man she tortures.
* The film version of SweeneyTodd. Granted, he does have a very sympathetic backstory. A judge lusted after Sweeney's wife Lucy. The judge fabricated a crime that resulted in Barker being exiled to Australia and then proceeded to rape Lucy (who poisoned herself afterwards because she was so traumatized) and then took in Lucy and Sweeney's daughter Johanna as his ward. However, the sympathy factor starts to wane when Todd loses sight of his original goal of avenging his wife and daughter. Instead, he slaughters tons of innocent people, including, [[spoiler: by mistake, his wife, who had become an insane beggar from the poison instead of dying. He is so deranged at this point that he cuts her down just because the judge is coming over and he might see this crazy lady running around the barber shop. He doesn't realize exactly what he's done until later]]. Still, fangirls swoon over how hot he is and ignore everything he does because his life is so sad. To be fair, this may mostly come from the fact that JohnnyDepp plays him.

* Colonel Miles Quaritch of {{Film/Avatar}} derives a huge amount of popularity from this, especially from fans who dislike having [[GreenAesop movie messages]] shoved down their throats by portraying an alien race as [[OurElvesAreBetter perfect beings]] in complete harmony with their moon's ecosystem and depicting the non-alien-aligned humans as greedy, rapacious [[HumansAreBastards exploiters]]. It doesn't hurt that Quaritch lifts weights to maintain his brawny physique, possesses a [[GoodScarsEvilScars cool set of scars on his face]], and routinely pulls off [[BadAss badass stunts]] of awesome manliness. The fact that he doesn't think twice about using [[KillItWithFire incendiary rounds]] to destroy the aliens' 10,000 year old tree-home, killing ''helpless children and infants'' in the process, all while serenely sipping a morning coffee, is conveniently glossed over or simply overlooked. It is left unclear whether people were still in the hospital when he blew it up. He probably would have even if there were, but as it stands it is unclear. Also, Scarecrow is not likely among the two worst evil characters; the page for The Dark Knight Saga gives a couple of POTENTIAL examples of Even Evil Has Standards as applied to the scarecrow. Joker is the most evil, sure, but Scarecrow is a milder, and likely more sympathetic villain.

* [[AxeCrazy The Joker]] and [[MadScientist the Scarecrow]] seem to get this a lot in DarkKnightTrilogy fanfiction. Leave it to crazed fangirls to pick the two most evil characters in a series that actually has several sympathetic (or in the case of the ordinary mobsters, dull) villains to crush on.
** Not to mention their strange neglect of [[TheWoobie Two-Face]]. Sure he has his fangirls, but they're not quite as numerous or as crazy as the Joker and Crane fangirls, which is strange considering he's played by tall, lantern-jawed, handsome Aaron Eckhart and has a ridiculously sympathetic backstory. The fact they can't forgive his nefarious deeds but they can turn [[CompleteMonster the Joker]] into a misunderstood nice guy is ... bizarre.
*** Probably because the Nolan version of Two-Face is graphically, hideously, realistically deformed and ugly, rather than just some stylistic scarring. It all comes back to the looks, really. The Joker is just Heath Ledger with a bit of effects makeup around his mouth, while Two-Face is Aaron Eckhart with ''half his face burned off''.
**** "Realistically" is a stretch, since having half your face burned off would mean you couldn't walk around in the open air without dying of an infection—skin exists for a reason.
*** And [[spoiler:holding a small child at gunpoint probably helps]]. Joker never really directly threatened any children (onscreen, anyhow).
*** He blew up a hospital!
**** Adding to the above, the Joker also threatened two entire boats full of people, one of which was shown to include several children among the passengers. Also, Scarecrow was threatening Katie Holmes and a little boy when he was hilariously tasered at the end of Batman Begins. Neither scene has put off ''their'' fangirls - though perhaps it would have if the threat was more explicitly aimed at the children.

* People who worship Sarah Connor of ''{{Terminator}} 2 Judgement Day'' as a paragon of feminist virtue tend to be the ones who ignore the fact she is a cruel, violent, emotionally unstable bad-mother who is actually ''deconstructing'' militant feminism rather than celebrating it. * ''Film/RedEye'' fanfic likes to apply this to Jackson Rippner, a murderous sociopath with no serious objection to killing children. He threatens to torture the heroine to death in front of her father. There is a certain amount of sexual tension between him and Rachel [=McAdams=]' character, but it's less WillTheyOrWontThey than fear that he's going to rape her. And yet there is Shipping in which he is presented as just misunderstood. It may have something to do with the seraphic countenance of Cillian Murphy.

* Captain Jones in ''Changeling'' seems to have quite a few female fans, despite being a [[DirtyCop corrupt, slimy bastard]]. Of course, he is played by the handsome [[BurnNotice Jeffrey Donovan]].

True, he's the main character, his society and the adults in his life don't give a shit about him, he becomes a huge Woobie when his "rehabilitation" takes away his ability to defend himself, and Malcolm McDowell's performance is very compelling. He's still a teenage rapist psychopath, and Mary Sue fics where the author tries to redeem him with True Love miss the point.
