* SenorCornholio: My dethroning moment has to be from, once again, the Palutena's Guidance conversations. Some are good, some are downright hilarious, some are pretty flawed, and the DLC characters...[[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter get none of that]]. I'd understand that they probably didn't want to bring in Pit, Palutena, or Viridi's voice actors just for one or two snippets of dialogue, but that excuse goes straight out the window with Bayonetta's trailer. Here, we see Pit and Palutena talking about Bayonetta like this was one of their guidance conversations, and like that I was excited...only to find out when I got her that it's still the same damn "alternate dimension" dialogue we've seen before Bayonetta's inclusion. In other words, [[NeverTrustATrailer they lied]]. Okay. So let me get this straight: you can't bring Antony Del Rio, Brandy Kopp, and Hynden Walch into the studio for seven new DLC characters, but you can bring two of them in to voice for one stinking trailer? I can handle Tabuu's sudden appearance in Subspace. I can handle the SpotlightStealingSquad status of the Kirby characters and more recently the Kid Icarus characters. I can handle some of the weaker guidance conversations, including further cementing Chrom's ButtMonkey status. But you can't possibly convince me that implying you'll give us new conversations, good or otherwise, and then not delivering on that is an okay thing to do. I couldn't possibly be more insulted if they actually did include [[MemeticMutation Toon Dark Pit]] into the game.

* Skapokon: OK, call me a nitpicky guy, but it really annoys me when Trophy Descriptions in Smash get things wrong, specially the origin games of the characters. From minor mistakes such as saying that Meta Knight comes from Videogame/KirbySuperStar instead of Videogame/KirbysAdventure to huge mistakes such as how the main Mario cast [[Videogame/PaperMario in Paper form]] debuted in Videogame/SuperPaperMario according to Brawl, ignoring the 2 games that came before it. But the biggest blunder and the DMoS for me is how {{Videogame/Rayman}} (and his friend Globox) debuted in Rayman Origins. That's right, they completely ignored the entire Rayman franchise just so they can promote both Rayman Origins and Legends via the trophies. And even that doesn't make sense because Rayman 1 and 2 are on the 3DS (the former via DSiWare, the later via the port Rayman 3D), which makes me wonder if they made this mistake on purpose or whoever was in charge of the trophies legitimately thought that Rayman and Globox debuted in Origins.

Has nothing to do with familiarity with in-universe fiction.

* Tropers/{{ShiningwingX}}: It gets even worse as the game goes on but the biggest kicker for me has to be toward the end. After all the characters are turned into trophies by Tabuu's DeathRay attack, who among them turn out to be the ones to [[BigDamnHeroes save them all]], and without whom the bad guys would have won? Kirby, and King Dedede. Somehow, Dedede had more [[GenreSavvy insight into what was really going on]] than any other character and [[TheChessmaster PLANNED for this]] with the revival badges. Up until this point Bowser and Ganondorf are known to have much more internal knowledge and involvement in the plot, especially with the scenes showing Ganondorf frequently speaking to [[{{God}} Master Hand]] himself (who, we discover is being manipulated by [[PuppeteerParasite Tabuu]]. Throughout the course of the story Dedede is shown to be just above Wario when it comes to being in the know so how in the WORLD could he have figured things out so easily when even Ganondorf was unable to? Its never explained but for an [[AllThereInTheManual extremely vague explanation by Nintendo on the game's website]], which mostly boiled down to "He just knew". As for Kirby, how does he manage to wake up and save the day after being blasted by Tabuu along with everyone else? He just eats [[IncrediblyLamePun the revival badge]].

Not a fictional event.

* Tropers/{{Midna}}: I do love both versions of the fourth game, but what really annoyed me (almost to the point of dropping the games cold turkey) was how much wasted potential was in the DLC. I did think the initial player. With the exception of Duck Hunt, all of the franchises given playable representation in the game are active, meaning they've had a game released in the past five years. The amount of "retro" playable stages can literally be counted on one hand--Duck Hunt, Pac-Maze, and Pac-Land. When DLC was announced for the game, I grew (probably irrationally) excited because it was such a huge opportunity for Nintendo to show some love to some of their wide variety of characters, maybe even older ones, that for whatever reason they chose not to the first time around.\\
So, what did we get for the DLC? Out of the seven characters, only three represent a completely new series--again, all of which have had a game released within the past five years. The rest of the roster consisted of three returning veterans, who by design offer nothing new gameplay-wise, and two ''[[CreatorsPet Fire Emblem]]'' characters, bringing the total amount of FE representatives up to a whopping six. So much potential for the event, and it amounted to a popularity contest. You couldn't have brought in someone who could possibly have had more moveset potential, like [[VideoGame/Mother3 Kumatora]] or [[VideoGame/{{Splatoon}} Inklings]], or an indie rep like VideoGame/{{Shantae}} or VideoGame/ShovelKnight? Hell, couldn't you have at least thrown us starving [[VideoGame/PanelDePon Lip]] fans a bone?

I agree the Guidances aren\'t that great, but it has to be a specific one that is a Dethroning Moment, not all of them.

* Tropers/{{SuperMafia}}: I feel that Palutena's Guidance, as a whole, is worthy of a Dethroning Moment of Suck. First off: The mechanic was inferior to the Snake Codecs from Brawl in many regions. In Brawl, the codecs for characters were being spoken by a cast of characters from a mostly 'serious' franchise, which it's why it's funny when the Colonel talks about Wario's farting, while the humor seems padded and forced in Palutena's Guidance. Second: The idea was good, but the execution was poor. The writing of these guidance dialogue seems subpar and filled with jokes and references that are not as fully because they felt flimsy. Finally: The DLC Guidance dialogue. It sucks that all the DLC characters get only one short guidance about how they came from "another dimension." It seems foolish to have this one, short piece of dialogue when they could have made each entry a bit unique from one another, especially when the four current DLC characters were already revealed. (namely: Mewtwo himself speaking to Pit via Telepathy, Ryu speaking directly to Pit, Lucas' tearjerking story about the Nowhere Islands and Vidiri's sympathy for him, among other dialogue potential for Roy.) And that's why I brand Palutena's Guidance as a whole, a Dethroning Moment of Suck.
** Tropers/{{shonengirl}}: I like the Palutena's Guidances just fine, but I will agree that considering how clever the humor was in their source game, they could have done much better; not to mention that unlike Snake Pit has no excuse for not knowing who half the roster is. And there was so much wasted potential for the DLC characters, it just seemed lazy despite what this Wiki's Awesome page says, since all of these characters have so much potential like the above points out; how iconic Ryu is, Lucas's backstory, etc. And it's pretty bad when the Just For Fun page could come up with much better ones.
** Tropers/{{BreakinBenny}}: I believe the problem is they'd have to bring back the voice actors repeatedly every time a new fighter gets added if they'll get credited for multiple ones, so they threw in a placeholder conversation to avoid wasting Antony Del Rio's time with an easter egg. However, Makiko Ohmoto doesn't count because she needs to make many vocalizations per copy ability for Kirby if required…. I see everyone's points though.

It says specifically in the rules section at the top not to Natter or make Justifying Edits. It\'s an opinion.

** Tropers/{{shonengirl}}: I don't know if I'm allowed to do this, but I want to point something out; Lucina was thrown in on a whim, after everything was considered. Same for Dark Pit and Dr. Mario, their inclusion did not 'steal' anything from anyone. This complaint just sounds ignorant and shows part of WhyFandomCantHaveNiceThings.

* Tropers/WaxingName: Everything about Ganondorf's portrayal in the series. He's arguably the most iconic MagicKnight EvilSorcerer in all of video games, having a large variety of magical blasts, and slicing enemies to shreds with a bladed weapon (either a [[ProngsOfPoseidon trident]] or [[CoolSword sword(s)]]. Can anyone manage to completely butcher an iconic villain in the translation to ''Super Smash Bros.''? Sakurai does! First off, he's under the impression that Ganondorf debuted in ''Ocarina of Time''; not that he's just another form of the same Ganon that's been around since [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaI the very first Zelda game]]. But as we all know, the real reason he's so dethroning is his portrayal as a clone of CaptainFalcon... just because they have the same body shape. Flinging magical balls of energy? Nope. Using a sword or trident like he generally does in all his final boss fights? Pfft... no. And speaking of, his portrayal eventually develops into a ridiculous stiff old man with an awful running animation; yet he also somehow has the ability to do acrobatic and flexible moves like his up-aerial and his up-tilt. And then Ganondorf decides to be a troll to his fans by pulling out his sword in one taunt, then putting it back... just to be a dick to his fans. This joke becomes even less funny by ''Smash 4'' where, despite characters like Bowser and Pit getting animation revamps bringing them closer to recent games (with the latter having a reasonable amount of demand for such), Ganondorf stays the same in spite of the heavy demand for him to revamp his portrayal.
%%NOTE: This fits because this is purely about his portrayal; generally not about he plays

This joke becomes even less funny by ''Smash 4'' where, despite characters like Bowser and Pit getting animation revamps bringing them closer to recent games (with the latter having a reasonable amount of demand for such), Ganondorf stays the same in spite of the heavy demand for him to have a better moveset.
%%NOTE: This fits because this is purely about his portrayal; generally not about he plays

Complaining about real life is not what this place is for. Also Charizard has its anime voice actor, so I have no clue where you get the idea it\'s any different from Pikachu.

* Tropers/{{ImSpideyTropes}}: I know this is minor, but I seriously loathe Sakurai's hypocrisy with characters' vocals. Bowser has realistic growls and such...yet Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings don't. Sakurai tried to cover his ass by saying that they make more sense that way, but it doesn't - it's fucking stupid. Why not just give Bowser his canon voice and drop the realistic voices? This gets even worse, because Donkey Kong and Charizard also have realistic voices, yet Yoshi doesn't. Sakurai states that they kept Yoshi's canon voice because he didn't want to ruin his character. While he already did that with Bowser, DK and Charizard. What the fuck, Sakurai?

Now before you go to edit this page with the reason "Moments only," it ''is'' a moment. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaCWnKL3iGQ All four of them have the same guidance.]] It just seems lazy that they couldn't come up with anything for Pit and Palutena to say about these characters. Of particular note is Lucas, which I choose as the biggest offender in this dethroning moment. Roy, Mewtwo, and Ryu, I could maybe understand Palutena having no information on since none of them were in ''Brawl'', but Lucas debuted in the same Smash Bros. game as you, Pit. You should know who he is! The Subspace Emissary seems to be in continuity, given that Pit thinks Mr. Game & Watch is a Shadow Bug, so how does Pit not recall someone else who went on that adventure with him? I mean, other than the laziness of giving each DLC character the same Guidance.

** Tropers/{{rjsulll}}:The Princesses were captured because that's what always happens to them. Mario was taken out by a cannonball that came out of nowhere, so he could not have dodged it. Also, has it ever occurred to you that the enemy got Mario because he's beaten Petey before and would do it again?

** Tropers/{{JustHereToComment}}: This also feels like it's trying to copy the Snake Codec where Snake feels that magic is unrealistic and Mei Ling replies that the technology they use could be considered a kind of magic. However, unlike that one, Pit dismissing the idea of magic is really hard to swallow since Pit is essentially a fantasy character who uses many powers that can only be considered magic, unlike Snake, who exists in a mostly realistic environment. Perhaps it could've worked if Palutena had explained Ness' powers scientifically and Pit complained [[DoingInTheWizard that she was ruining the magic for him.]] Instead, it comes off as [[DidntThinkThisThrough a poorly-constructed attempt at]] HypocriticalHumor.

* Tropers/{{kt-low}}: My main gripe with Palutena's guidance is how fake the characters sound and Pit is trying way too hard to be funny. For a comparison, in Brawl's codecs, you have informative descriptions, Snake's funny remarks and you feel how the MetalGear cast loves to be there. While the Guidance the jokes are mostly [[TakeThat MOCKING the characters]], or spouting memes. Seriously, just compare the humor of both, many of Guidances start with Palutena announcing the character and then Pit/Viridi mocks them on something trivial and they all proceed to banter about something unrelate OR involve Pit saying "WAKKA WAKKA! DO A BARREL ROLL! WHAT A BUNCHA JOKERS! LUIGI HAD A YEAR! THAT'S NOT METROID!" [[SarcasmMode Oh my god Pit you are so funny! All those memes without any build up certainly didn't feel forced at all]], you know so much about videogames, all the other fandoms love you!

** Tropers/{{Trialman}}: Super Smash Bros. For Wii U continues with the DisappointingLastLevel problem in Event Mode. This game's last event is that the player goes against Mario, Mega Man, Sonic, and Pac-Man. Practically the exact same premise, but for this one, they don't even use Final Destination, but Battlefield, which makes avoiding the opponents much easier. To make it worse, you only fight two of them at one time, ruining the whole premise of fighting all the main mascots in a team. Again, it feels like a glorification of the third-party characters. Especially disappointing considering all the criticisms that were addressed in this game.

* Tropers/{{lazyfox}}: Now, I loved ''SuperSmashBros Brawl''. I thought Subspace Emissary was good considering that no characters talked throughout the entire thing (except Snake's one introduction line). However, there's one thing that really, really irritated me: Sonic getting the shaft when it came to story in Subspace Emissary. And all you give him is a single BigDamnHeroes moment with [[AssPull absolutely no explanation?]] [[WhatTheHellHero What the hell, Sakurai?]] Where did he come from? What was he doing? How did he get there? Why was he there? One of the things I looked forward to the most was seeing him interact with the Nintendo characters. Hell, it would've awesome if [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot it was Sonic that Mario had to travel with, forcing two of gaming's biggest rivals to work together and maybe overcome their bitter rivalry throughout the course of the story.]] But nope. Fans played through hours of story, going -through a painful and tedious maze, and what was the payoff? A single, short moment with no context. To this day, it still [[FamilyGuy grinds my gears.]]
