It is either an Artistic License (intentionally ignoring real life issues for the sake of the plot) or a Critical Research Failure (actually not knowing), it can't be listed as both. As the "how" is largely irrelevant to the plot, just a throwaway explanation (the focus is on the "why" and the "and now what?"), let's remove this one and leave the CRF

* ArtisticLicensePhysics: Reed gives two explanations for how Magneto caused the tidal wave. Either he reversed the earth's magnetic poles (which wouldn't have much effect) or he reversed the axis (which he would have no power to do). Some have speculated that he could have caused the tectonic shifts necessary to create a tidal wave by moving large metal reserves in the earth's crust, but this is never stated in the story.

** The first reaction of Pym and Hawkeye after the flood is to search for the Wasp, who was with them before it. For a brief moment [[HopeSpot it seems that Hawkeye found her]], but when we turn the page, the Blob is eating her corpse. That scene became the SignatureScene of the whole comic, more than the covers, and modern readers should have seen it coming.

** Ultimatum unintentionally makes an amazing argument against this mindset. While it was originally intended to be the conclusion of the Ultimate Universe, the brand survived and managed to limp onwards. The problems came in when the writers had to salvage the mess of dead characters, now orphaned storylines and broken continuity and somehow try and reacquire interests from readers. To the shock of no one, the vast majority of stories now involved characters no one had seen before with all the familiars gone for good.

It has to be an actual arc that is suddenly abandoned, not a one-scene that could have led to an arc but didn't.

** After Stephen Strange is killed, a shadowed figure appears and takes his body away. We never find out who or why.
** Hank gives Jan's corpse to Hawkeye before his sacrifice and tells him to look up the Jocasta project in his notes. Jocasta being a robot based on Jan's brain in the main universe, the implication is Jan being resurrected via BrainUploading. This never happens.

The earlier arc ''Ultimates 3'' killed the sons of Magneto, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, and left Magneto wanting revenge. For this, he altered the earth's axis with his powers, which caused natural disasters around the world. A flash flood reaches New York, and many heroes are killed by it. Some members of the Brotherhood of Mutants wreak havoc among the survivors, and Magneto kills Charles Xavier himself. The surviving heroes eventually band together and follow Magneto to his floating fortress. After another fight, Magneto is finally killed. Many characters, both heroes and villains, died in the story; either during the flash flood or the subsequent fights.
