* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Cowers and acts afraid in his second or so appearance, and then he combines two powerful card effects in his first duel, making a powerful lock on his opponent. And he's even summoned Dark Magician! Not bad for a mere fanboy.

A young duelist who favours the Elemental [=HEROes.=] Despite his love of the game and all the fun he derives from it, he's far from the most capable duelist ever. Or the most intelligent.

* GeniusBruiser: He's physically one of the largest duelists at the academy, and is quite the beatdown player. but, see GuileHero below...

* HeroicBuild: Definitely bigger than most of the other duelists.

* InformedAttribute: Supposedly Jacques is a very good duelist. This gets harder to believe with every loss he receives.

* LargeHam: Jacques gets a little... Carried away during duels.

* BadAss: He managed to win two Curbstomp battles in a row.

* PetTheDog: He is much nicer around Regulus after [[spoiler: Regulus became the first duelist to beat him during the tournament,]] and is [[spoiler: the first duelist to express concern for him when he is temporarily rendered comatose.]]

A student who was semi-willingly sent to the academy by his parents. Unlike [[WackyCollege most of the students]], he cannot detect Duel Spirits.

* DoggedNiceGuy: Was intended to be this towards Gretel before the latter was PutOnABus.
* FriendlyEnemy: Is surprisingly polite to the cultists.
* HoYay: '''MASSIVE''' amounts of this with Art during their first encounter, to the point where it almost sounds like he's ''flirting'' with him.

* BattleintheCentreoftheMind: Has one with Freed. However it's inside ''Freed's'' mind rather than his own.

* DarkIsNotEvil: His entire deck are dark monsters but he still tries to be nice and friendly. This becomes the main point of his {{World Of Cardboard Speech}} to SkullKnight.

* TeamMom: Genderflipped. What he ''tries'' to act like at times. He's becoming much better at it as the series progresses
* YouShallNotPass: Pulls this on Skull Knight to allow Regulus to get the Exodia card to Sophia
** Subverted in that he manages to survive. He however made it clear that this was what he ''thought'' he was doing.

* FusionDance: Him and Meteor were forced in to doing this during the duel against his parents, proving there conviction but also hoeing to gain the power to win [[spoiler: Marcus havering yet to be able to keep a monster on the field for them had not helped matters]]
* TookALevelInJerkass: After the duel with the cultists, he has become a lot more aggressive and uncaring towards his fellow duelists. Likely due to him merging with the other Duel Spirits.

The son of the wealthy Kyleman family, Marcus is probably the most... "[[CloudCuckooLander unique]]" duelist in the academy.

* AllTheOtherReindeer: Zig-Zagged, He was never really bullied at school, and he kept himself seperate from others because he knew that they found him wierd and didn;t really want to talk to him. He doesn't really care about having friends, but there are hints that it's a desire that he's regulated to "Never Going To happen"
* BerserkButton: NEVER bully someone in front of him, and if you do, and you continue to bellitle others, then pray to '''GOD''' that you can back it up or Marcus will ''destroy'' you. As Gretel found out the hard way.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He went from being affable and friendly... to trying to [[MindRape break]] Gretel. Needless to say, many of the other student's were shocked by this transformation.

** During the duel with Gretel, he used Obfuscating Stupidity both to lure Gretel into a false sense of security, and also to simply [[TheGadfly annoy the crap out of her]]. (She had ''really'' pissed him off with her arrogant attitude before the duel, so he was trying to not just beat, but humiliate her) When Marcus saw the face down cards on Gretel's side of the field, he was almost positive that they were traps. However, he also realized that it was better to spring them ''now'', and lose a weak monster, than to spring them later and lose one of his trump cards. Furthermore, he also had three separate traps of his own that he could use to counter her retaliation. Now, if he were to use the same cold, confident and eloquent attitude he had been using in the previous duels, then it would be obvious to Gretel that he had a plan. And Marcus knew that Gretel was intelligent enough to easily figure it out. (After all, if ''he'' could figure it out, then so could she.) But by acting like a fool, he could make his reckless actions look like the work of an incompetant amateur who didn't know what he was doing. Furthermore, by being as annoyingly retarded as possible, he manipulated Gretel into wanting to end the duel as quickly as possible, which meant she would be quick to play her strongest monsters in order to take him down as quickly as possible, little knowing that he had a surprise waiting for them. His plan worked perfectly. She wasted her backrow and Mystical Space Typhoon on cards that could easily be replaced, and in her impatience to end the sham of a duel and shut up the babbling idiot, she threw one of her beloved XYZ monsters right into the path of a Mirror Force. leaving Alien Hypno free to attack her directly.

** During the finals of the tournament, Marcus tricks the others into believing that his partner can read minds. This leads Denero (Who is terrified that Marcus will recognise him as a son of thieves and expose him to the other duelists.) to try and turn the others against Marcus. Both Denero and Jurrac Meteor believed they had outwitted Marcus, but it was infact the other way around. Marcus lied about Gol'gar's mind reading ability in order to gauge the reactions from the others, [[BatmanGambit knowing that the ones who panicked would be the ones with something to hide]]. And [[UnwittingPawn Denero had fallen right into his trap.]]
* CloudCuckooLander: Probably the most absentminded of the duelists.
* ColorCodedCharacters: He and Gol'gar have an amethyst aura

* {{Foil}}: To Peter and Gretel, being relaxed and quirky in contrast to their arrogance and jerkassness.

* IShallTauntYou: Frequently uses Psychological Warfare in his fights.
* KickTheSonOfABitch: His BreakingSpeech to Gretel was ''incredibly'' vicious, but you can't really say she didn't deserve it.
** Then there's his cold blooded [[spoiler: excecution of one of the cultists. It was horiible enough to qualify him as the groups TokenEvilTeammate, but considering that the cultist was a nihilistic psycho who had tried to torture and kill Daniel...]]
* ManipulativeBastard: Just look at all the other tropes on his page.

* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Briefly has this reactionwhen he believes that the cultist he [[spoiler: Mind Raped and killed]] was a friend of Roxas. [[SubvertedTrope He get's over it in seconds however when he finds out that Roxas objected on principle alone]].

* ParentalNeglect: While they genuinely love him and were never abusive, Marcus's parents never knew how to "handle" his quirks when he was growing up, and with the demands of their job's, this lead them to be quite distant. Leading Marcus to believe that everyone considers him a burden.

* BadAss: Villains or not, you have to admit they're good at dueling.
* BodyHorror: Many of them have been horribly mutated by Haine's magic, not to mention the injuries they inflict on the duelists

* CombatSadomasochist: They all enjoy receiving pain just as much as view enjoy inflicting it.
* DarkActionGirl: The Constellar Cultist
* [[KnightOfCerebus Knights Of Cerebus]]: The cult of Apophis present a very real and significant danger to the heroes. [[spoiler: They've managed to take Jacques out of the picture, and very nearly did the same to Caramon and Peter. Then Haine starts taking things seriously....]]

* OmnicidalManiacs: They plan to ressurect Apophis and use his powers to destroy all life.

** FridgeBrilliance: It is likely ''because'' of that incident that Haine has begun excuting any cultist that loses, since before he killed him, Marcus had Gol'gar read the cultist's mind to gather information on them.

A strange young child who seems to work for the Apophis Cult, he mainly appears to spy on the heroes, and gave out certain cards to his allies. Otherwise, he is basically a normal kid...or is he? Haine has also given some disturbing cards to the Cultists, and despite working for Apophis, its hinted he has his own agenda.

* BigBad: He's apparently the leader of the cultists, and the most dangerous enemy the duelists directly confront.

* TheCorrupter: Most of his cultists were normal humans Mind Raped into insanity by his powers.

Not to mention what he did to Gol'gar.]]
