She is one of the oldest queens in Pyrrhia, described to be as large as Morrowseer. Like every other MudWing queen, she has not and will most likely never be challenged for the throne by her sisters, because her siblings are a very tightly knit group and they would never try to kill each other.

* GodSaveUsFromTheQueen: Subverted. She has one of the most positive portrayals of any of Pyrrhia's queens in Arc 1, being a competent, beloved monarch who is agonizing over the cost to her tribe in the war. When Sunny visits her dreams she's agonizing over the coming invasion of the Ice Kingdom, dreaming of her dead siblings.

* NervousWreck: Crane's death badly affected him; when he appears in ''Moon Rising'' Moon notices that he's shaking and constantly nervous.

* ParentalNeglect: Not that [=MudWings=] are the best parents in general, but [[spoiler:selling one of your dragonets for a few cows?]] That's low.

* PayEvilUntoEvil: Repays her sister's murder by [[spoiler: breaking the ceasefire agreement to murder the one responsible and her methods cost several dragons their lives and injure a close friend.]]

%%* SympatheticMurderer: The plot of ''Moon Rising'' revolves around Moon and Qibli trying to find who set the bomb in the history cave and killed Carnelian and Bigtail, which turns out to be her. However, she is portrayed sympathetically due to only intending to kill the dragon who killed her sister and who she had reason to think was plotting a murder of her own, and being shown to be traumatized by the war and her sister's death.

* DishingOutDirt: Exposure to mud strengthens and heals them.
* EmancipatedChild: [=MudWings=] don't have any relationship with their parents, and instead form strong family units with their siblings, with the eldest - the "[=BigWings=]" - looking after the others.
* HelpMistakenForAttack: [[spoiler: [=MudWing=] hatchlings instinctively try to help their clutchmates hatch by breaking their eggs. Dragons from other species mistake this for infanticide.]]
* HufflepuffHouse: After ''Winter Turning'' gave more focus to the [=IceWings=], they are now the least-focused on tribe. Even when Clay got to visit their kingdom, it was only for two chapters, and there's no [=MudWing=] protagonist in the second arc or (so far) part set in the Mud Kingdom.
* MightyGlacier: Are known for their strength and their armored scales.
* PlayingWithFire: They can breathe fire, but only if warm enough.
* NoSell: [=MudWings=] hatched from blood-red eggs [[spoiler:are fireproof.]]
* ParentalNeglect: Mothers and fathers don't care for their dragonets once they're born. [[spoiler:Clay's mom even SOLD him for some cows!]]

!! Queen Moorhen
->"You're very small to be in charge of saving the world."

She is one of the oldest queens in Pyrrhia, described to be as large as Morrowseer. Like every other MudWing queen, she has not and will most likely never be challenged for the throne by her sisters, because her siblings are a very tightly knit group and they would never try to kill each other.

* BadDreams: Has a bad dream about her siblings and tribe dying right before she is about to [[spoiler: launch a genocidal attack on the [=IceWings=]]], as seen by Sunny when she uses the dream visitor.
* LargeAndInCharge: She's a very large Bigwings, and the queen of the [=MudWings=].
* MinorMajorCharacter: She's the queen of the [=MudWings=], but she's appeared for a grand total of one chapter in the entire series.
* TrappedInVillainy: Doesn't want to be part of the war, but is forced to pick a side to protect her tribe.
* TheWomanWearingTheQueenlyMask: She is a popular queen who is capable of carrying out ruthless war plans, but she is secretly horribly afraid for her siblings and her tribe, leading them into a war that she was forced into.

* TheChainsOfCommanding: His job as Bigwings can be difficult, especially because he still feels guilty about letting his sister die, and wonders whether Clay would have been able to save her if he was not kidnapped.
* ChildSoldiers: Is forced to fight in battles when he is only six years old.
* IntroOnlyPointOfView: In "The Dark Secret".
* LargeAndInCharge: He is a Bigwings, meaning he's the largest of his siblings group and also the leader.
* TheLeader: Of his sibling group.

* BigEater: Like Clay.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: He and Flame ask to a [=NightWing=] guard where Starflight is so they can kill him to fulfill Morrowseer's task. The guard throws them in prison, screaming that foreign dragons have come to kill their dragonets.
* EvilCounterpart: To Clay. They's both [[BigEater Big Eaters]] who are part of their respective sets of Dragonets of Destiny, but Clay is a kind and loyal dragonet whereas Ochre is greedy and unfriendly.
* FatBastard: He's overweight and not at all a nice dragon - even Sunny can't stand him.

* TakeAMomentToCatchYourDeath: How she dies in Sora's flashback. She has just saved one of her siblings and is looking back at them proudly when [[spoiler:Icicle]] jumps up behind her and slashes her throat.
* PosthumousCharacter: She dies during the first book and never shows up alive except in a flashback.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: She only appears during a flashback, and dies in the first book, but her death has a huge impact on her sister Sora that [[spoiler:Sora sets off a bomb in Jade Mountain Academy trying to kill the dragon who killed Crane, which backfires, killing Carnelian and Bigtail, injuring Tamarin, and forcing Sora and Umber to go on the run.]]

Clay's younger sister.
----
* BewareTheNiceOnes / BewareTheQuietOnes: She is a shy and friendly bookworm. Unless you're [[spoiler: a {{Jerkass}} who killed her sister and then became her roommate while muttering in your sleep about your plans for murder...]]
* CrimeOfSelfDefense: She notes that part of her reason for [[spoiler:trying to kill Icicle]] was self-defense, after hearing [[spoiler:her talk in her sleep about murdering dragons, which turned out to mean Queen Scarlet was dream visiting her]], but that's still not enough to prevent her from [[spoiler:having to flee Jade Mountain with Umber.]]
* CuteBookworm: She's a very shy and fragile dragon who spends most of her time reading books in Starflight's library.
* CynicismCatalyst: Crane's murder really messed Sora up. [[spoiler:It motivates her to break the ceasefire agreement so she can murder the dragon responsible.]]
* MurderByMistake: [[spoiler:Her attempt on Icicle's life inadvertently kills Carnelian and Bigtail. Bombs are like that.]]
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: She feels utterly horrible about [[spoiler:accidentally killing Carnelian and Bigtail and injuring Tamarin when she tried to kill Icicle]], leading to her [[spoiler:spending all of her time in the hospital with Tamarin, completely traumatized.]]
* OddNameOut: Her name (besides being Japanese rather than of English origins) means "sky" rather than relating to earth as her siblings' names do.
** Actually, it is far more likely that she is named after the sora, a marsh bird native to North America.
* PayEvilUntoEvil: Repays her sister's murder by [[spoiler: breaking the ceasefire agreement to murder the one responsible and her methods cost several dragons their lives and injure a close friend.]]
* PutOnABus: Flees with Umber [[spoiler:so she won't get punished for accidentally murdering Carnelian and Bigtail.]]

* NobleBigot: She is prejudiced against [=IceWings=] thanks to being attacked by them during the war, but is otherwise kind to all dragons, including [=IceWings=] themselves.
* TragicBigot: Her prejudice against [=IceWings=] comes from being hit by an [=IceWing's=] frost breath, which left her with permanent scars.
