** Vlov's and Nrvnqsr's fight also differ in one crucial way. Nrvnqsr looks down upon humans and considers Shiki to be not worth his attention, allowing himself to be completely surprised by being killed by what he thought was a nobody. On the other hand, though he feels similarly at first, when Shiki gets serious, Vlov, due to retaining his instincts as a human knight, immediately recognize Shiki to be a threat and goes on the defense, to the point that at times the vampire prioritizes Shiki over Arcueid and Ciel from sheer intuition alone, despite the fact that any rational mind would see the latter two as the much greater threat. As a result, especially in Arcueid's route, he puts up a much more gruelling fight, as Shiki loses the element of surprise and requires outside aid to win.

!Backstory

[[folder:Brunestud of the Crimson Moon/Type-Moon]]

Crimson Moon Brunestud is the Ultimate One of the Moon, which is a kind of being a celestial body creates to protect itself. Because Gaia could not make a similar being for itself, the Crimson Moon offered to allow Gaia to make copies of it. Thus came into being the race known as the True Ancestors around 2000 BC during the Age of Gods. However, from Gaia's perspective there were two problems with them: The first is that, having foresaw its death, the Crimson Moon could use the True Ancestors to reincarnate itself. [[CloningBlues Since the True Ancestors were supposed to be exact copies of the Crimson Moon]], [[GeneticMemory this could be possible]]. The second flaw was that Gaia-created beings like fairies could not drink blood or they would [[AxCrazy go insane]]. Since the True Ancestors were Gaia-created beings, they could not drink blood either, but because they were copies of the Crimson Moon, they had an urge to drink blood that could not be controlled [[WillfullyWeak without using a large amount of their own power]]. This meant that True Ancestors who did drink blood and go crazy were more powerful than the sane ones as the Demon Lords did not suppress their power. This is why Arcueid was created. She was born without an innate desire for blood, and so could fight the Demon Lords at full power.\\\

Eventually, the Crimson Moon revealed that [[TakeOverTheWorld it wished to create a kingdom on earth.]] Then its foreseen death came about, though unexpectedly. In 300 AD, Zelretch used the Second Magic [[AlternateUniverse to warp it to an Earth with nothing on it]], then [[ColonyDrop dropped the moon on it]]. [[FightingAShadow However, as an Ultimate One, it still, in a sense, exists.]] Currently there are two beings into which it can reincarnate. The first is Altrouge Brunestud. Though she does not possess the ability known as the Marble Phantasm that should be required, she still posseses the strength to hold Crimson Moon. However, she is noted to be unstable. The other candidate is Arcueid. However, Arcueid's sense of self is too strong. Even if Crimson Moon were to reincarnate into either, it would not be quite the same being it was before.\\\

Due to being the original vampire, Crimson Moon ranks as the 3rd Dead Apostle Ancestor (number 2 in the remake).
----
* AmbiguousGender: People default to calling Crimson Moon 'he' but whether it even has a gender is unclear.
* AmbiguouslyEvil: Despite being opposed to the likes of Shiki or Arcueid, it doesn't seem particularly malicious and bears them no ill will, though it does wish to reincarnate through Arcueid. It's also been seen helping humans and some of its followers are more able to get along with humans than Dead Apostles who arose without its direct influence.
* AntagonistTitle: His status as Type-Moon, the Ultimate One of the Moon, is the namesake for the company that makes the Nasuverse franchise.
* BlowYouAway: Alt Nagel (German for Ancient Nail). It's a ridiculously powerful spell which is described as an immensely destructive pillar of wind which stretches as far as the heavens.
* CloningBlues: The True Ancestors are essentially its imperfect clones.
* FightingAShadow: In a sense. His body was destroyed, but he still exists inside every True Ancestor. Should they become powerful enough, he can revive inside of them. However, there were only ever two strong enough for this and neither is a suitable host.
* GoKartingWithBowser: Has a conversation with Shiki in the guise of Arcueid in a dream in one of ''Kagetsu Tohya'''s side stories. Although it does shred Shiki into eighteen pieces after the first conversation, the next chat was far more cordial.
* GoneHorriblyRight: Gaia wanted an Ultimate One of its own to bring humanity to heel. It wound up getting several from Crimson Moon in the form of the True Ancestors who were each, as it was loathe to discover, a ManchurianAgent for the sinister satellite in case something happened to its main body.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Its signature move is a ColonyDrop. Zelretch defeated him using one on a barren Earth where the only thing to harm was Crimson Moon himself.
* HumanoidAbomination: While it is more human than most of the other [=TYPEs=] it is still the same manner of being that they are.
* {{Irony}}:
** Despite being the origin of all vampires and thus closer in nature to a True Ancestor, Crimson Moon is actually listed among the Dead Apostle Ancestors. Furthermore, he is not even the highest number of that group- he is surpassed, at least in terms of threat to humanity, by Primate Murder and the Dark Six.
** The UltimateLifeform was vanquished by having the Moon itself {{colony drop}}ped onto him.
* MagicalEye: It has Rainbow Mystic Eyes that allow it to "crush reality".
* MentalWorld: It has a Reality Marble of an unknown nature, only that it contains the Millenium Castle Brunestud.
* OurVampiresAreDifferent: The god-like ultimate lifeform of the moon.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: Among other things it can create giant wind pillars that reach into space that destroy whatever they touch, create mirror images of '''[[ColonyDrop THE MOON AND THROW THEM]]''' and it has a [[Literature/AngelNotes Knight Arm]] that can be used to complete the true purpose of the True Ancestors, namely "restoring the world to its natural state".
* SoulJar: All True Ancestors are built with the capacity to become Crimson Moon again after its destruction. However, this isn't enough to allow it to return. They must also possess immense power even by the standards of True Ancestors and a weak sense of self. Those who are candidates are given the title of Brunestud and treated something like royalty. Both the remaining/active True Ancestors carry the title, though neither is in a state where they might be used to bring back Crimson Moon.
* UltimateLifeform: The Ultimate One of the Moon.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Altrouge Brunestud]]

Altrouge is a mysterious vampire who is a mix of True Ancestor and Dead Apostle. She is called the "elder sister" of Arcueid because she is the only other thing in existence that can cause the Millennium Castle to appear, which earned her the 'Brunestud' title, and likely because she is older. [[ReallySevenHundredYearsOld Her normal form is as a 14 year old girl]], though she apparently has a second form as well. She has no role in ''Tsukihime'', and is only mentioned in [[AllThereInTheManual world-building asides]]. She "stole" Arcueid's long hair during a past battle, lost a fight to the first incarnation of Roa and was responsible for giving Wallachia his powers. She controls [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Primate Murder]], [[GaiasVengeance the Beast of Gaia]] and some other Dead Apostles apparently work as her flunkies. She ranks as the 9th Dead Apostle Ancestor.
----
* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: She's called a princess ''because'' she's a badass.
* CainAndAbel: The Cain to Arcueid's Abel.
* TheCorrupter: [[spoiler:If Cath Palug falls under her sway, he becomes Primate Murder and a monster who feeds on humanity, instead of remaining as Cath Palug who is firmly on humanity's side.]]
* TheGhost: She's mentioned occasionally in background material, but we don't even know what she looks like apart from a vague "young."
* HalfHumanHybrid: Half True Ancestor, half Dead Apostle (Dead Apostles being former humans).
* KidWithTheLeash: Primate Murder is the Beast of Gaia, [[GaiasVengeance the manifestation of the planet's will to survive]]. It takes a minimum of ''seven'' [[VisualNovel/FateStayNight Counter Guardians]] or [[VideoGame/FateGrandOrder Grand Servants]] to restrain Primate Murder. Of course, Altrouge isn't a kid.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Normally she appears around fourteen, though she has an older form.
* RedBaron: Let's see... [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast The Eclipse Princess of Black Blood]], [[ThePowerOfBlood The Lord of Blood and Contract]], and [[RuleOfThree The Princess of The Dead Apostles]], contrasting Arcueid's "White Princess of The True Ancestors".
* UltimateLifeform: According to ''VideoGame/FateGrandOrder'', the reason why an awakened Arcueid in the remake timeline wouldn't be considered to be the Ultimate One of Earth is because she hasn't settled her score with Altrouge, a being 'that forms the celestial' on the same scale.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Kishua Zelretch Schweinorg]]
!!!Voiced by: Tadahisa Saizen (Japanese - VisualNovel/FateStayNight Realta Nua), Ikuya Sawaki (Anime/FateStayNightHeavensFeel)
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Zelretch_3447.png]]

Zelretch is known as the Wizard Marshall and is the master of the Second Magic known as Kaleidoscope, which deals with movement between alternate realities. He vanquished the Crimson Moon, though the latter managed to suck his blood, turning him into a vampire.\\\

Though listed as the 4th of the Twenty-Seven Dead Apostle Ancestors (bumped to third in the remake), he is still friendly to humanity at large and has contacts with various characters across the [[Franchise/{{Nasuverse}} multiverse]]: He knows Aoko Aozaki and is the godfather of Arcueid Brunestud and aided in the formation of the ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'' Holy Grail War system. Despite having access to the entirety of the Nasuverse continuity, he very rarely appears directly.
----
* AlternateCompanyEquivalent: WordOfGod says that Zeltrech's personality is based on [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure Jotaro Kujo]].
* AlternateSelf: In the pamphlet that came with the ''[[VisualNovel/FateStayNight Heaven's Feel 3]]'' Blu-Ray, it's explained that the Zeltrech there isn't a vampire, "but still immortal."
* TheArchmage: Unquestionably the strongest living mage in the Franchise/{{Nasuverse}}.
* AndThenJohnWasAZombie: Even though he did defeat Crimson Moon, he was turned into a Dead Apostle in the process. It doubles as CursedWithAwesome, because 1700 years later, he's still up and kicking.
%%* AuthorAvatar: Of sorts for Kinoko Nasu himself.
* BigDamnHeroes: In the True End of ''[[VisualNovel/FateStayNight Heaven's Feel]]'' [[spoiler:he pops in from an alternate universe (just as Rin was about to lose everything in a Mage Association's KangarooCourt) to announce that he was taking apprentices. Rin's case was forgotten in the ensuing excitement; Zelretch praises her and takes her under his wing.]]
* BlessedWithSuck: WordOfGod notes that his influence over the Nasuverse is so great that, if he were to "observe" any given AlternateTimeline, it would be considered "real". While the meaning of this was vague for a long time, later works reveal that parallel worlds have certain events that they all must follow in order to maintain uniformity, meaning that whatever events Zelretch directly has a hand in will become fact across the entire multiverse. As it turns out, this isn't a good thing -- Zelretch wants to investigate the extremely irregular ''Literature/FateStrangeFake'' timeline, but cannot actually ''enter'' the timeline lest these irregularities spread across the multiverse for the worst. Thus, with his hands tied, he has to send Ayaka Sajyou to do the investigation for him.
* CoolSword: His personal mystic code, the Jeweled Sword, is capable of drawing an infinite amount of magical energy from parallel worlds and unleashing it with immensely destructive results. It is the same sword that he used to vanquish Brunestud.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: Why, yes. Yes he did defeat Crimson Moon. However, this was only possible because he took it by surprise and [[BrokeYourArmPunchingOutCthulhu required an amount of effort that Zelretch can no longer duplicate]].
* DimensionalTraveler: As user of the Second Magic, Zelretch is capable of observing and traveling into parallel worlds across the Nasuverse. However as already stated in the [[BlessedWithSuck Trope]] above, he must very selective of which worlds he can actually enter and influence.
* EmpathicWeapon: Created one known as the 'Kaleidostick'. Unfortunately, in addition to being sentient it's sort of a jerk and has a distinct taste for humiliating its wielders. [[spoiler:So rather than using it himself, he 'loans' it to apprentices. Poor Rin... and indirectly [[Manga/FateKaleidLinerPrismaIllya Illya...]]]]
* {{Flanderization}}: Later entries in the franchise portrays him as a good deal more goofy and cartoonishly {{Troll}}-like than he originally was, when he's otherwise shown to be a responsible and serious, if slightly whimsical person.
* FounderOfTheKingdom: He is one of people credited for founding the Clock Tower.
* FriendlyNeighborhoodVampire: Well, he's still a jerk, but he's a ''good'' jerk.
* HeroicRROD: Defeating Crimson Moon Brunestud took an amount of effort that Zelretch cannot ever replicate, and caused his otherwise [[HeroicBuild incredible physique to crumble]] and aged him to an elderly man instantly. This is why unlike other Dead Apostles, who all look young no matter their age, Zelretch looks like an old man.
* NoodleIncident: One of his deeds involves stopping Crimson Moon from [[ColonyDrop dropping a mirror image of the Moon]] on Earth through the use of a Magic Circle powered with mana from countless worlds to fire a [[WaveMotionGun limitlessly powerful Ether Cannon]] to stop and destroy it. [[WordOfGod Nasu]] states he would need 5 times the budget of VisualNovel/WitchOnTheHolyNight to do it justice.
* OldMaster: Old enough that even as a vampire, he's starting to feel his age, and he is ''still'' one of the most powerful beings on the planet. He's one of the absolute most powerful things to have ever lived who defeated Crimson Moon by himself. He was 50 by the time he defeated Crimson Moon, but due to not feeding for a very long time, his body deteriorated to the point of being compared to a 70-year old man.
* ParentalSubstitute: Of sorts. He's officially Arcueid's godfather, though it's unclear what that really means.
* PresentAbsence:
** In [[{{Manga/FateKaleidLinerPrismaIllya}} Prisma Illya]]. Not only are his Kaleidosticks a major plot point, but his opinions and orders help move the plot forwards, since Rin and Luvia follow his orders, admittedly through Waver.
** In general, Zelretch is one of the most important characters we never see, since [[BlessedWithSuck he has to be ''very'' cautious about when and where he interacts with the universe]].
* ProHumanTranshuman: One of the few Dead Apostles who like humans.
* QuantumMechanicsCanDoAnything: The Second Magic often makes things more convenient than they ought to be. This is Lampshaded several times in ''Prisma Illya''.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Considering he was already an old man and a vampire when Arcueid was a child, he's at least 900-1200~ years old. The ''LightNovel/LordElMelloiIICaseFiles Material'' reveals that he fought Crimson Moon at 300 AD, placing him at a little over 1700 years as of the 21st century. Then "Katagetsu Manuscript" reveals that he was one of disciples of [[Literature/TheBible King Solomon]], making him be even older than that.
* RedBaron: "Wizard Marshall", a title which he gained when he was able to wrangle the self-serving mages into an unified army to fight against the Crimson Moon.
* RenownedSelectiveMentor: Zelretch will occasionally take apprentices, but those that do it for the purpose of "being the pupil of a famous magus" are ground up by his style of training and drop out. Those that become his pupil to "learn from a great magus" turn out as some of the best of their generation. It is ''strongly'' implied [[spoiler:[[VisualNovel/FateStayNight Rin Tohsaka]]]] is on the way to being the latter, [[spoiler:much like her ancestor]].
* SecretTestOfCharacter: It is stated that those who accept his apprenticeship out of greed for the fame, glory, and prestige of being his pupil are the only ones who crack under his TrainingFromHell, but those who simply desire to learn from him because he is a skilled wizard turn out okay.
* SoProudOfYou: He says this word for word to [[spoiler:[[VisualNovel/FateStayNight Rin Tohsaka]] as he bails her out from a KangarooCourt, happy that his apprentice, Nagato Tohsaka, has some great descendants.]]
* SpaceMaster: The Second Magic is the ability to manipulate the border between different "worlds" existing in parallel.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: His first name is sometimes romanized as 'Kischur.' Those who know Hebrew would probably consider it more appropriate as that means "Link" or "Connection", a fitting name for a walking conduit between realities... if it wasn't for the fact that "Kishua" also has a meaning, that being... "Eggplant". Which, in Japanese, is called "Nasu", thus making him a likely AuthorAvatar.
* TimeMaster: In addition to its dimensional border-bending abilities, the Second Magic is said to also have the ability to interfere with time, though to what extent is unknown, but it can be slightly explained: since Kaleidoscope allows him to land on any universe, Zelretch can visit on any given time period of that universe on a whim and such, alter any particular timeline.
* TrainingFromHell: Students (hand-picked and initially ''very'' eager, mind you) are more often than not left a gibbering mess and unable or unwilling to continue their careers, usually those who signed up merely for the status of being his student, rather than genuinely trying to learn from him.

[[folder:ORT (aka Type-Mercury)]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ort.PNG]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Ultimate One of Mercury ([[AmbiguousSituation ?]])]]

Type-Mercury is the Ultimate One of ([[AmbiguousSituation supposedly]]) Mercury. It received Gaia's dying call to exterminate humanity, and traveled through space to arrive in South America five thousand years before the Common Era, where it fell into slumber deep beneath the Earth, awaiting [[Literature/AngelNotes "the promised time"]]. It is recognised as the 5th Dead Apostle Ancestor on a technicality, due to having a few vampire-like properties and [[YouKillItYouBoughtIt having killed the previous holder of the rank]] (who was stupid enough to try and capture it).

----
* AmbiguousSituation: The [[AllThereInTheManual Character Material]] book's profile on ORT openly questions if came from Mercury, hinting that it may be an Ultimate One from somewhere else. [[spoiler:In ''VideoGame/FateGrandOrder'''s ''Cosmos in the Lostbelt'' Chapter 5.2 Olympus, it's further hinted that the name "ORT" might actually be derived from its place of origin in a case of NamedAfterTheirPlanet, and in reality it's the Ultimate One of the ''[[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oort_cloud Oort Cloud]]''. However, none of this is confirmed so the question still remains]].
* BerserkButton: Don't disturb its sleep, unless you have a death wish. The incident with the previous 5th Ancestor was the equivalent of it drowsily smashing its alarm clock before going back to sleep, and ''Literature/FateStrangeFake'' implies that if its fully woken up it'll destroy humanity ahead of schedule.
* CapsLock: Its name is officially romanized with all uppercase letters.
* TheDreaded: It's virtually indestructible, rivals Primate Murder in terms of human-killing capacity despite not being specialized for it, and its mere presence overwrites reality and warps the area around it. It isn't talked about as much because it's content to sleep in South America and doesn't act at all unless it's disturbed, though when it is it annihilates the offenders rather quickly. However, in ''Literature/FateStrangeFake'', the idea that it could be awakened a century early due to a wish made with a Holy Grail causes Zelretch to get involved.
* EldritchAbomination: ORT, a top-tier attack-type life form and the Ultimate One of Mercury ([[AmbiguousSituation ?]]), which is apparently sleeping somewhere in South America and is only on the list because it acts a little bit like a vampire and the previous number three on the list was stupid enough to attack it. It's so alien that it's slowly warping the territory around it into a place more like itself, no small feat since the World reasserts its reality and crushes any abnormalities, including Reality Marbles. ORT is doing something similar to a Reality Marble but on a much higher level, and winning against reality ''in its sleep.''
* GiantSpider: ORT somewhat resembles one at times, and is constantly referred to by other characters as "the spider." If someone randomly talks about a spider, chances are they're talking about ORT.
* InscrutableAliens: Its profile states it's too alien to understand or learn Earthly concepts, so there will be no [[DidyouJustRomanceCthulhu romancing Cthulhu]] here. Like its sibling Type Venus, it can eat others and absorb the information they have but unlike Type Venus who can truly internalize what it learns, ORT's understanding is shallow and comes across as mimicry.
* {{Kaiju}}: ORT is a forty-meter-tall, vaguely spider-ish, half-UFO creature.
* NonLinearCharacter: Possibly, as it somehow received Gaia's dying call to exterminate humanity ''way'' ahead of time and arrived at South America in 5000 BC to sleep until [[Literature/AngelNotes the promised time.]]
* PunnyName: If ORT is truly [[spoiler:Type Oort-Cloud, then confusing it for Type Mercury is a Japanese pun. Both Mercury (水星) and Comet (彗星) are pronounced ''Suisei'' in Japanese. Further along these lines, its common description as The Spider can also be considered a form of this, as both Spider (クモ) and Cloud (雲) are pronounced ''Kumo'', again presuming ORT is Type Oort-Cloud.]]
* RealityWarper: ORT can change its surroundings to its native Crystal Valley.
* UltimateLifeform: It's an Ultimate One, allegedly from Mercury.
* WorldsStrongestMan: ORT is described as an attack-type life form with destructive power beyond anything currently on the planet. Though apparently some of the other Ultimate Ones who will respond when the [[EndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt "Promised Time"]] in ''[[Literature/AngelNotes Notes]]'' comes are more powerful than it, and Primate Murder, The Dark Six, Brunestud ''and Zeltrech himself'' rank higher in the Dead Apostle Ancestor Listing. This is likely because ORT will generally continue sleeping for a very a long time and until it wakes up will only be a threat to those stupid enough to enter its domain.

[[folder:Caubac Alcatraz]]
!!!Voiced by: Creator/DaisukeKishio (Mr. Cellphone, ''Anime/CarnivalPhantasm'')

The 27th of the Dead Apostle Ancestors, he is a strong believer in the Church's ideology even after transformation into a Dead Apostle. Caubac subsequently spent most of his time hidden away in an underground cavern, and later, his own castle and great labyrinth, which he has been locked in for the past several centuries. In three, Caubac toiled away at his magnum opus, the Triten Scripture, to prove God's love and ensure the Scripture's protection. He subsequently lost track of it when it left to go be a human in Japan.
----
* AnimateInanimateObject: He turned himself into a padlock out of disgust at his body requiring blood to live. He's also been using the animate cellphone Zelretch gave him to interact with the outside world.
* GoneHorriblyWrong: He intended to use Triten to prove the existence of God and thought he did by creating a functional universe in miniature. Its unintended shape as the human [[spoiler:Hibiki Hibino]] only proves to him that God possibly isn't real because He would never be human.
* LuxuryPrisonSuite: Caubac doesn't seem to really mind the fact that he is trapped within his own labyrinth. There is no day or night inside of it so he doesn't really have a grasp on the passage of time, he can gather information about the outside world thanks to Zelretch, he can keep on "killing himself" to avoid getting hungry, and Arcueid would have a hard time finding him inside the labyrinth in order to kill him. To him, it is a world with no change that is a paradise to him.
* MeaningfulName: Caubac ''Alcatraz'' has been trapped inside a labyrinth of his own devising for several centuries, although he insists he actually prefers his labyrinth to the outside world. On the bright side, he can still interact with the outside world by way of the [[Anime/CarnivalPhantasm animate cellphone]] Zelretch made for him.
* PluckyComicRelief: One of his epithets was "Comedian of the Dead Apostles", which has defined his character throughout various Type-Moon works, whether it be appearing as a wacky perverted cellphone in ''Mahou Tsukai no Hako'' and its derivative works or his backstory being a comical string of failures one after the other and locking himself away in shame. He stands in sharp contrast to the other murderous and dead serious Ancestors shown throughout the Franchise/{{Nasuverse}}.
* ReligiousVampire: Caubac was originally a member of the church before Crimson Moon took interest in him and turned him into a Dead Apostle Ancestor. Before Caubac's transformation into a padlock happened, he decided to write down his thoughts about God's love into a scripture, creating the Holy Scripture Triten that he decided to lock away in his Labyrinth to keep it a secret.
* {{Retcon}}: The original canon stated that he became a Dead Apostle during his research as a magus. The remake canon changes him to be affiliated with the Church and was directly transformed into a Dead Apostle Ancestor by Crimson Moon.
* TheoryTunnelVision: He is in deep denial over what happened to Triten or the possibility of it being God because that would upend his millennia long conviction in his interpretation of Biblical scripture.

[[folder:The Twenty-Seven Dead Apostle Ancestors]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dead_apostle_ancestor_sample.jpg]]
The 27 most powerful and influential of the Dead Apostle vampires, recognized as such by the Church and the Mage's Association. Whether they turned into vampires by having their blood sucked by other vampires or had their bodies warped by their own magecraft, they are those who have transcended the normal limits of humanity and now possess a limited form of immortality. Succession rites ensure that the number is kept constant at twenty-seven even if one is slain, though despite this some positions do not appear to be filled any longer.\\\

While the Dead Apostle Ancestor grouping only exists in ''Tsukihime'' worlds, the individual members still exist in other worlds where they are called "Superior Dead Apostles". However, many of their statuses differ greatly from their ''Tsukihime'' counterparts, such as already having died or never having reached the point of becoming a Dead Apostle.\\\

Seven of the known Dead Apostle Ancestors have their own entries on this or other pages: Nrvnsqr Chaos, Vlov Arkhangel, The Night of Wallachia (in ''Characters/MeltyBlood''), Brunestud of the Crimson Moon, Altrouge Brunestud, ORT, and Kishua Zelretch Schweinorg, and one of the Ancestors also appears in ''VideoGame/FateGrandOrder'', though in a fairly unusual role, comparatively. For tropes concerning that character, consult the ''Grand Order'' [[Characters/FateGrandOrderBeasts character page]], though beware of spoilers in their own right.\\\

It should also be noted that Michael Roa Valdamjong, despite being an extremely powerful vampire, is explicitly excluded from the ranks of the Dead Apostles, with the given explanation that his "goals" differ from theirs.
----
* AdaptedOut: Primate Murder is removed from the list in the remake.
* AdaptationalBadass: As explained in an interview, Nasu realised that the PowerCreep of abilities introduced in ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'' and its many spin-offs, up to the world- and ''reality''-ending threats of ''VideoGame/FateGrandOrder'', made even top-ranking [=DAA=]s look... ''lacking'' [[PowerCreep by comparison]]. So with the remake, he essentially put out a [[BalanceBuff update patch]] for the Ancestors: he cut those who were "only" relatively-amazing, replaced them with new members who were stronger and met the new standard for inclusion, and buffed the surviving members while shuffling their ranks to reflect their new power levels and standings.
* AllThereInTheManual: Most of them appear only in supplemental materials.
* AnimalMotifs:
** Gransurg Blackmore is styled after a raven. His Reality Marble is even called 'Nevermore'.
** Primate Murder is often associated with canids, and is even described as "Altrouge's Demonic Dog" at one point. [[spoiler:In ''VideoGame/FateGrandOrder'', it's much smaller than most (being about the size of a large squirrel or small housecat), but it's still recognizable as a fox-like canid.]]
* TheBeastmaster: Merem Solomon's preferred mode of combat. His beasts actually comprise his four limbs.
* BotanicalAbomination: Forest of Einnashe, that is a forest corrupted in becoming the Seventh Dead Apostle Ancestor when Arcueid screwed up the disposal of the corpse of the previous number seven, Einnashe. It's considered strange even for Dead Apostle Ancestor standards, and it can spawn similar, but less dangerous offspring.
* CanisMajor: Primate Murder is apparently one, given that it's called a dog by multiple characters.
* ChildMage: When human, Merem was a kid with the power to [[SpeaksFluentAnimal talk to the animals]] and [[MakeAWish materialize the people's wishes]].
* CleverCrows: Gransurg Blackmore, styled after a Raven.
* CoolBigSis: Sumire is described as being like a drunken older sister in Character Material. In ''Tsukihime 2'' she was supposed to turn up and drunkenly annoy Shiki.
* CoolShip: Fina-blood Svelten is the captain of a "ghost ship".
* CoolSword: Enhance and his sword "Avenger", for which he killed his vampire master to get it.
* CrypticBackgroundReference: The Dark Six, the very first Dead Apostles, exist in a state where only thing that is known about them is that they haven't reached completion. Some lore bits around the release of the remake implies that they might be [[spoiler:the six fairies who forged Excalibur, or related to them]], but otherwise exist in complete darkness.
* DaywalkingVampire: Sumire is a variant as she is a Dead Apostle who [[CannotCrossRunningWater overcome her weakness to bodies of water]]. However, this made her weaker on land in return, leading to her to live underwater.
* DeathByAdaptation: Ciel mentions in ''Type Lumina'' [[spoiler:that she possesses the Idea Blood of Forest of Einnashe, implying she killed it in the remake continuity.]]
* DespairEventHorizon: In ''Fate'' timelines where the Human Order is stronger, Gransurg Blackmore loses all hope after Zelretch defeats Crimson Moon and allows himself to be killed by the Church's Executors.
* DetachmentCombat: Merem Solomon fights by detaching his own limbs, which then turn into Divine Beast-class monsters (that is, something on par with a Sphinx or a Gazer) to fight for him.
* TheDreaded: Primate Murder. There may be other entities in the Nasuverse who are more ''generally'' powerful, but Primate Murder is ''the'' absolute, number one, standout pinnacle creature when it comes to ending the lives of "primates", including humans, with the only possible competition it has for the spot being ORT. A certain entity from ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'' can match them in killing "quality", but will take much longer to kill as many as they can in number. Any discussion of it tends to come with a veneer of terror.
* DwindlingParty: By the end of the remake, six of the Dead Apostle Ancestors have been either sealed away or outright killed off with their Idea Bloods taken out of the circulation, meaning that currently there are only twenty-one seats remaining.
* {{Expy}}: Enhance is said to look exactly like Dante from ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry'' -- though it's worth noting that this is, by the early [=2020s=], a very old statement and he's never been properly depicted on camera in a Nasuverse work.
* FriendlyNeighbourhoodVampire: Merem Solomon and Zelretch are both friendly to humanity, with the former being employed by the Church's Burial Agency. Gransurg Blackmore and Enhance might also count, given that the former is a devoted servant of Arcueid, who defines this trope, and the only certain facts about the latter are his hostility to the other Dead Apostle Ancestors and him wielding a weapon from the Church alongside a trophy from his first kill. Sumire was also planned to appear in a fairly harmless role in ''Tsukihime 2''. [[spoiler:And a far less threatening Primate Murder shows up in ''Fate/Grand Order'', though it's a little unclear how much this'd apply to the Nasuverse as a whole and Primate Murder himself says that in other times and places, he's far more ugly and threatening.]]
* GiantSpider: Besides ORT, the remake adds a ''second'' giant spider to their ranks. Unlike ORT, this Ancestor is far more human in thought as they scream about the need for humans to understand their love in a flashback.
* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: Sumire is described as being constantly drunk.
* HeelFaceTurn:
** Enhance is said to have turned against a group of Dead Apostles planning to assassinate Arcueid.
** [[spoiler:If he manages to hang out with [[Myth/KingArthur Merlin]] instead of Altrouge, Primate Murder turns out way more okay and less threatening (not to mention loads more [[RidiculouslyCuteCritter adorable]]). He still retains a lot of his power, though, and in the exact right circumstances can even get around that "no true resurrection of the dead" rule that binds the Nasuverse otherwise.]]
* HumanoidAbomination: Nearly all of the Dead Apostle Ancestors are this, with them being ludicrously strong Dead Apostles with powers defying sense even for Dead Apostle standards. Brunestud of the Crimson Moon is the same type of being as ORT, but seems to have had more of a human form to judge by True Ancestors being considered copies of it. However, it may actually have had a fairly human personality, though it's not quite clear. The only ones to fully break from this trend are Primate Murder, who is pretty much always a full-blown canine of some description, and Forest of Einnashe, which is, well, ''[[BotanicalAbomination a bunch of trees]]''. ORT just ''barely'' qualifies, since it does have a recognizable(ish) head, torso, and arms.
* InTheBlood: Quite literally, each of the DAA have "Idea Blood" which represents their Principles such as "Castle, therefore Kingdom" or "Sword" or "Limbs." Should a Dead Apostle qualify to inherit the Blood, their personalities will still radically alter to accommodate it. Vlov is an exception because he was taught how to resist that effect (though he wants to kill the Dead Apostle who taught him.)
* KlingonPromotion: If the one who kills a Dead Apostle Ancestor meets the requirements such as drinking blood, they will instantly earn the Dead Apostle's ranking. Incidentally, this is how ORT got on the list, by virtue of obliterating a Dead Apostle Ancestor foolish enough to disturb its slumber. It ''may'' also be how Primate Murder makes the cut, since it wasn't a vampire and isn't even human, but to date, this hasn't been elaborated on. The remake adds tighter restrictions to this process, as the Dead Apostle must also acquire the Idea Blood of the corresponding Ancestor and withstand its curse via experience of being a Dead Apostle for at least a thousand years or using certain techniques to inherit their seat.
* MentalWorld: A multitude of them have Reality Marbles.
* MinorMajorCharacter: Most of them to varying degrees are incredibly relevant to backstory and establishing setting or character connections, but have nothing at all to do with the plot. Two of them stand out in particular:
** Caubac Alcatraz who created many Labyrinths and the Holy Scripture Triten both of which have relevance to multiple works, but since he's locked away in his own Labyrinth, all of his interactions with characters are via telephone and very brief at that.
** Rita Rozay-en as all of her character is entirely exposited with silent cameos. Her personality has been described in various glossary entries, some of her powers and her background have been explained in ''-A piece of blue glass moon-'', her hobbies like Mystic Eye collecting have been explained in works like ''VisualNovel/WitchOnTheHolyNight'' and ''LightNovel/LordElMelloiIICaseFiles'', and her appearance has been revealed in the manga adaptation of ''Case Files''. It's to the point where the audience essentially has every part of her character from cameos, namedrops, or AllThereInTheManual ''except'' for what she's like when serving as a character in an actual story.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: One of the ones who don't even breach the top 10 is known as the [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast "City Devourer"]], which should give you a vague idea as to how destructive the Ancestors can be.
* PosthumousCharacter:
** In the remake, Zaria Offenbaum is established to have been killed by Vlov to take their seat, and [[spoiler:Be'ze who held the position of number 25 and Chromclay Petastructure who held the position of number 22 were killed by Ciel some time before the game starts.]]
** Stanrobe Calhin, [[RedBaron The First Wraith, Duke of Predation and]] [[PersonOfMassDestruction City Devourer]] is an Ancestor the Church destroyed in the past, but in a massive case of NiceJobBreakingItHero, whatever process destroyed him allowed him to continue to exist as a ghost that will continue to haunt the world for at least another two hundred years. Thus, despite being dead, Stanrobe is still on the list and due for exorcism.
* RedBaron: Some of their names.
* TheRival: Rizo-Waal Strout to Shiki Tohno in ''Tsukihime 2'', according to ''Kagetsu Tohya''.
* SapientHouse: In the remake, the new list for Dead Apostle Ancestors subtly implies that [[spoiler:the Millennium Castle of Crimson Moon is ''also'' a Dead Apostle Ancestor, holding the 4th Seat]], though it is hard to tell since the list is partly blurred.
* SealedEvilInACan: The Dark Six, a.k.a. the first Dead Apostle. It's currently resuscitating and summoning it is the focus of the Aylesbury Ritual. The risk of it being un-canned is the essential thrust of the proposed ''Tsukihime 2''.
* ShotgunsAreJustBetter: Enhance uses a [[HolyHandGrenade Holy Scripture shotgun]].
* SpellMyNameWithAThe:
** It's "The 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors." The list is important in some way that is not clear, they themselves maintain it by replacing any who die. It is likely related to Crimson Moon (aka Type Moon) who created the True Ancestors who created the original Dead Apostles. In the ''Franchise/FateSeries'', Dead Apostles exist; but they aren't nearly as strong and there is no organized 27.
** The Dark Six are also only referred to exclusively as "The Dark Six" to the point where their name is written in GratuitousEnglish even in the Japanese script just to ensure that readers get the point of having "the" in front of their name. Due to their cryptic nature, it's not clear why they are referred to in this manner but it is consistently reiterated that they have an extremely important status even among this group of vampires as the centerpiece of the Aylesbury Ritual, the first Dead Apostle, their remake status of being ranked first of the Ancestors, and being the "first and highest system".
* SuperpowerLottery: All of them save Alcatraz has ridiculously powerful abilities, often possess Reality Marbles and ancient magecraft that should be impossible to achieve in the modern world, making even the weakest of the DAA extremely powerful. One of them even qualifies as a full-bore Evil of Humanity in ''Fate/Grand Order'', putting it on par with beings like the primordial goddess Tiamat.
* SwordAndGun: Enhance's fighting style.
* TooDumbToLive: There once was a certain Dead Apostle Ancestor who looked upon the sleeping, 40m-tall EldritchAbomination from outer space and decided to aggressively wake it up for an examination. The Ancestor was instantly reduced to red paste on the ground, and that's how ORT ended up on a list full of vampires right after it went back to sleep.
* TransHumanTreachery: {{Defied}} by Enhance -- a Dead Apostle is supposed to be scornful of normal humans, but Enhance retained his humanity, and the first thing he did after becoming a full-fledged vampire (a sentient vampire, a fully-fledged Dead Apostle if not for the fact he's still subordinate to his sire) was to kill his master, [[KlingonPromotion usurp his position as Eighteenth Dead Apostle Ancestor]], and start hunting down the other Ancestors with the purpose of ''destroying them''.
* UnseenNoMore: Several of the Ancestors were first mentioned in an InfoDump or AllThereInTheManual and have been slowly revealed over the decades since the original ''Tsukihime'' in various works.
* WhenTreesAttack: The Forest of Einnashe, a tree that ended up becoming a sentient, mobile, and bloodthirsty forest after absorbing the blood of a Dead Apostle that Arcueid had killed and failed to properly dispose of. It can spawn smaller offspring called a Child of Einnashe, one of which appears in ''LightNovel/LordElMelloiIICaseFiles.''
* WindsOfDestinyChange: Sumire is one of the very few able to use Marble Phantasm. Too bad she's typically too drunk to do anything with it.
* WingedHumanoid: In ''Talk'' Enhance shows the ability to sprout a pair of wings that "resemble neither those of a bird or those of an insect".
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Burial Agency]]
The branch of the Church dedicated to obliterating the heretical no matter what, their fight to destroy what they consider evil means they will utilize anything and any person of any creed, even non-Christian ones.
----
* AmbiguousSituation: The remake's list as given by Noel leaves number 5's seat unknown, making it unclear if Merem Solomon is still part of the group in this timeline. In addition, it's also left unstated whether Mr. Dawn's partner is still working with him or not as a Burial Agency duo.
* AdaptationalWimp: Implied, as the remake establishes that only six Dead Apostle Ancestors have been taken out, (one is killed by Shiki, two of them were handled by the Church, and another two were killed by Ciel, leaving only one's circumstances of death/sealing ambiguous), meaning that Narbareck's old record of sealing away three Ancestors no longer applies in this timeline.
* CanonImmigrant: Two of the members in the remake version are Cardinal [[VideoGame/FateGrandOrder Noi]] and Sister [[VideoGame/FateExtra Kiara Kisshoin]], implied to be the ''Tsukihime'' versions of their ''Fate'' counterparts.
* LegacyCharacter: The position of director is passed through the Narbareck family, who is always referred to by their last name.
* OddlySmallOrganization: There are only eight (technically nine in the remake as Narbareck was moved from #1 to being just the Director) permanent members at a time as the nature of this group being some of the most absurdly powerful agents the Church can employ, it's deemed too much of a risk to add additional slots to this group.
* ProhumanTranshuman: Kiara Kisshoin used something called "Sabbath" to transcend humanity and become a Maradeva-ranked daemon; implied to be equivalent or similar to the power she gained in ''EXTRA'' or ''Grand Order'' as "Heaven's Hole". This makes Kiara nigh-omnipotent in the world of humans... but on the lowest rung of power in the higher dimension of Demons and greater beings: a fact she only discovered after transcending her human perceptions, deflating all her grandiose ambitions at once. As her ego is unable to tolerate being a insignificant fish in a galaxy-sized pond, Kiara chose to instead remain attached to her human form and the world of humanity as a NormalFishInATinyPond.

* {{Irony}}:

----
* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: She's called a princess ''because'' she's a badass.

* FriendlyNeighborhoodVampire: Well, he's still a jerk, but he's a ''good'' jerk.
* PresentAbsence:

* {{Kaiju}}: ORT is a forty-meter-tall, vaguely spider-ish, half-UFO creature.

* AnimalMotifs:
* HeelFaceTurn:
* PosthumousCharacter:
* SpellMyNameWithAThe:
* SwordAndGun: Enhance's fighting style.

!''Plus Disc'' and ''Kagetsu Tohya''

[[folder:Len]]
!!!Voiced by: Creator/KaoriMizuhashi (JP)
[[quoteright:264:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Len_mbaa_4539.png]]

-->''"............"''\\\

Len is a dream familiar cared for by Arcueid. Her role in the original Tsukihime is to give Shiki an erotic dream as a reward for him destroying Nrvnqsr, though she goes unseen and unnamed. She never speaks and in general is quite similar to a cat; She is fickle, shy around strangers and affectionate in her own aloof way. She's the star of ''Kagetsu Tohya'' where she appears either as a small girl with elf ears or a black kitten. She's far more powerful than her appearance would suggest, though not in a manner suited for combat.
----
* AdaptedOut: Due to the lack of any sex scenes in the remake, Len is completely absent from ''-A piece of blue glass moon-'' and ''Type Lumina''. Arcueid in ''Fate/Grand Order'' does imply that she did defeat Einnashe with a help of a magus like she originally did, so it is still possible that Len is around in the remake canon.
* AnimalMotifs: A cat. More specifically, a black cat.
%%* CatsAreMagic
* CatGirl: Normally either a little girl or a black kitten, but when surprised at one time the two seem to slightly blend, which gives her cat ears instead of the normal pointy ones. This may imply that her shapeshifting ability is not limited to just those two forms and she merely prefers them.
* ClingyJealousGirl: At some point while maintaining the dream she seems to fall for Shiki. After he saves her from Nanaya, she tries to interrupt him by shoving away Akira when they're chatting, but since she's so small she lacks the strength and she won't speak, so eventually she just has to give up. Akira and Shiki are just left feeling confused.
%%* CuteKitten
* CuteMute: By choice. She only seems to have two lines: One during a sex scene in ''Kagetsu Tohya'' where she says Shiki's name and one during VideoGame/MeltyBlood where she rejects White Len.
* DarkMagicalGirl: Oddly enough, Len doesn't really realize that she's incredibly lonely and wants to be able to interact with others.
* DreamWeaver: She has the ability to manipulate the dreams of others. She can also feed in this manner, but hasn't done so.
* DramaticEllipsis: She uses...a lot of...ellipsis.
* EmotionlessGirl: She's unable to outwardly portray her emotions.
* EverythingsBetterWithSpinning: For some of her attacks.
* {{Familiar}}: Works for Arcueid at first thanks to a deal between her and Len's old master, but is technically not her familiar because it's impossible to make a connection as they are too similar. [[spoiler:Becomes Shiki's at the end of ''Kagetsu Tohya'' via a contract made either with sex or by feeding her his blood.]]
* GlacierWaif: Despite appearances, in Videogame/MeltyBlood her energy ball based combat racks up damage in few hits while being quite fast and long-reaching. On the other hand, [[NecessaryDrawback Len has low health and defense]].
* HatesBaths: [[CatsHateWater As common with cats]], Len dislikes taking baths.
* HornyDevils: Her first mention is as a succubus that Arcueid sent to give Shiki erotic dreams. She's capable of feeding in this manner, but hasn't done so.
* IntelligibleUnintelligible: Despite never saying anything, Hisui and Shiki seem to be capable of understanding what she wants to say. Shiki has always had a sort of empathetic connection with her that seems to have strengthened after forming a contract with her. Hisui, on the other hand, seems to be able to understand her simply due to the two of them being "similar characters".
* IntimateHealing: [[spoiler:At the end of ''Kagetsu Tohya'', Shiki and Len forge a contract in order to give Len the magical energy she needs to live. They can do this either by her drinking some of his blood, or by having sex. The choice is ultimately left up to the player, but the game drops several hints as to which is the 'correct' option.]]
* LittleMissBadass: Playable in ''VideoGame/MeltyBlood''.
* PointyEars: Her ears are pointy in her human form.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Her exact age is not really clear, but she's likely lived for several centuries.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Her eyes are a clear indication that she isn't human.
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue oni to White Len's red.
* ReflectionlessUselessEyes: It seems that they're meant to symbolize her emotionless nature. In contrast, White Len, who was created from the unused parts of Len's personality, has normal, albeit demonic, eyes.
* ReiAyanamiExpy: A young-looking girl with light blue hair, red eyes and pale skin who always remains quiet and emotionless and despite her looks, is not a normal human.
* ShyBlueHairedGirl: A quiet girl with light blue hair.
* SiblingYinYang: Not really siblings, but Len is literally the yin to White Len's yang.
* SweetTooth: She loves anything sweet. Especially cakes.
* {{Tsundere}}: Well, she's a cat, so she usually won't let you know when she likes you. She'll pretend otherwise or act all aloof, but it's clear that in her own way she cares a lot.

[[folder:Akira Seo]]
[[quoteright:235:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8-seo_t05_9883.png]]

Seo is an underclassman of Tohno Akiha's at her school. Her first appearance was in the Tsukihime Plus-Disc, but she appears in ''Kagetsu Tohya'' as well. She has the power to see the future of others, but she can neither control it or nor are her predictions set in stone. She also has the tendency to speak too quickly and say things she didn't mean to say, especially about Akiha, who she both fears and admires to some extent. She nurses a massive crush on Shiki that he doesn't seem to notice.
----

* ArousedByTheirVoice: She notes in her narration that she has a thing for guys with nice voices. Naturally, hearing [[ChickMagnet Shiki's]] voice over the phone makes her heart skip a few beats. This actually becomes an important clue in her Plus-Disc story [[spoiler:since the man she'd been meeting up with ''thinking'' he was Shiki didn't produce a similar reaction.]]
* {{Expy}}: Of Shizune Seo from ''LightNovel/TheGardenOfSinners'', one of Nasu's earlier works. They both share the same surname and have similar powers too. Her more recent artworks also heavily resemble Shizune a lot. [[spoiler:They even share the same..."interesting" hobby.]]
* HopelessSuitor: Shiki hasn't even friendzoned her. She's a friend of Akiha, meaning her position is twice as distant.
* LittleSisterHeroine: She's considered a real little sister type and much more suited for the role than Akiha, though no one dares say it. This part of her personality tends to make people want to fuss over her or, in Akiha's case, to engage in some friendly bullying.
* ScrewDestiny: She can and has changed the futures she's seen to achieve a more favorable outcome. On the other hand, she's also accidentally ''caused'' the future she's seen to occur. Her power is hard to manipulate.
* {{Seers}}: Possesses precognition.
* SempaiKouhai: With Akiha, who she's close with. She's still terrified of her however.

[[folder:Shiki Nanaya]]
!!!Voiced by: Creator/KenjiNojima (JP), Ryousuke Kanemoto (JP - Melty Blood Type Lumina)
[[quoteright:163:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nanayambaa.png]]

-->''"You know where you're going? If it's hell, give the devil my regards."''\\\

Nanaya is a representation of Shiki's fear of his inner demon hunter side. As an idealized form of Shiki's possible physical ability, he is far more agile and skilled. On the other hand, he does not possess Shiki's Mystic Eyes and thus does not wear the Eye Killer glasses. As both he and Shiki know perfectly well, this was never what Shiki was like as a child nor even what his inner demon hunter is truly like, but merely an expression of Shiki's fears. During ''Kagetsu Tohya'', he can be found downtown as the rumored killer, but oddly enough does not seem to have killed anyone.\\\

There are, technically, four different versions of him. The first is the original Shiki, who underwent DeathOfPersonality at Makihisa Tohno's hands, the second is a manifestation of what Shiki Tohno erroneously believes the original Shiki Nanaya would have been like, born from Tohno's identity issues and need to deal with his murderous instincts, the third is more or less the same as the second, but existing only as a living nightmare representing the destruction of Len's dream world, and the fourth was created by [[VideoGame/MeltyBlood White Len]] from all of Shiki Tohno's repressed and denied traits.\\

Another version of him appears in ''Type Lumina'', added as part of the 2nd seasonal update and taking the role of Shiki Tohno's Boss version.
----
* AmbiguouslyRelated: While there are multiple hints that "Master Panda" is Nanaya in disguise in the old canon, ''Type Lumina'' continues the trend in Miyako's Last Arc where Master Panda sounds like him and performs many of his moves like Flash Sheath - Eightfold Thrust. The problem being that at this point of the remake continuity, Nanaya doesn't exist in his own physical form for him to be Master Panda so what his deal is is left ambiguous.
* BadassNormal: In ''Kagetsu Tohya'', Shiki even at his best cannot match up to Nanaya, who lacks the ability to use Mystic Eyes of Death Perception and has merely mastered the Nanaya Assassination Arts. [[spoiler:Although Tohno wasn't able to use his eyes, which probably would have leveled the playing field. And those fights were him fighting against his nightmare inside a dream.]]
* TheBusCameBack: [[spoiler: After years of being absent from the franchise, he finally makes a reappearance in ''Melty Blood Type Lumina'' as the Boss Rush version of Shiki Tohno, added to the game in the Season 2 update.]]
* CharacterDevelopment: When he starts talking about his 'Pride as a Nanaya' in MBAA, you know he's changed a lot.
* DifferentlyDressedDuplicates: He doesn't wear glasses as he doesn't have Mystic Eyes of Death Perception, making it easier to differentiate Nanaya from Tohno. [[spoiler:This is an important detail in Noel's Boss Rush in ''Type Lumina'', as the "Boy in School Uniform" is Shiki who never puts his glasses back on.]]
* DiscOneFinalBoss: ''Kagetsu Tohya'' builds up to him as the big baddie Shiki needs to beat [[spoiler:but right when he levels the playing field, Nanaya is decapitated by Kishima Kouma.]]
* EnemyWithout: He's pretty pissed about it too since his existence is based on him being a murderer, only he's not actually able to kill people due to Shiki's idea of murder.
* FragileSpeedster: Quite fast, but his defense leaves much to be desired.
* LampshadedDoubleEntendre: Nanaya is afraid he 'spanked' White Len too much when he wins a battle against her. And muses whom is the 'master' in their relationship.
* NotSoStoic: His otherwise cool behavior cracks when Kishima Kouma appears. You can hear the emotion start cutting through his facade.
* PsychoKnifeNut: Nanaya is mainly meant to be Shiki as a fully realized killer, using his knife with highly refined skill than what Shiki can normally do.
* ShadowArchetype: Is, of course, this to Shiki Tohno. The incarnation created by White Len takes this the farthest, though, being ''literally'' Tohno's Jungian Shadow given form.
* StealthMentor: It is implied that Master Panda, Miyako's fighting instructor, is actually Nanaya in disguise (speaking with the same voice in ''Anime/CarnivalPhantasm'', the symbol for "Nanatsu-yoru" on his back, their tagteam name in ''Act Cadenza'' is "The Long Road of the Panda," etc.)
* TheStoic: Nanaya never gets angry at anyone, kills calmly and cooly, and enjoys it with the satisfaction of a spider eating a fly.

[[folder:Kouma Kishima]]
!!!Voiced by: Creator/JurotaKosugi (JP), Creator/DaikiHamano (JP - Remake)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mb_lumina_kouma_7.png]]

-->''"...Do as you wish. That is, if your tiny arms could pull it off."''\\\

Kouma is a 'perfect' half-demon hybrid from the Kishima clan, a sub-family of the Tohno family. He is very powerful, even relative to demon-hybrid standards with super strength, skin like iron and blazing fast speed. He only has one eye as he lost the other one to Shiki's father. He is the one who Makihisa brought in to help destroy the Nanaya clan, though Shiki can only just barely remember having seen him. He represents death in the ''Kagetsu Tohya'' dream world.\\\

In ''VideoGame/MeltyBlood'', he is revealed to be living as a hermit in the mountains, having decided to isolate himself from human society after Akiha decided to repent for her father's mistakes in time for Shiki's arrival on her mansion. She cut ties with the Kishima's, forcing Kouma out.
----
* AbusiveParents: The first family he ever had kept him locked up alone in a dark room for years, never letting him out, and ultimately tried to kill him by shooting him in the head. The ''second'' family he ever had chained him up like a wild animal, and he only ever got loose when Shiki's father cut him down while merrily murdering them all.
* AllThereInTheManual: Most of Kouma's background and character, given he plays a very minor role in current events of the series.
* AlliterativeName: '''K'''ouma '''K'''ishima.
* AmbidextrousSprite: ''Usually'' averted, but every once in a while the wrong eye'll be uncovered by his hair.
* BadassLongcoat: When Kouma actually wears his coat normally.
* BareFistedMonk: His early portrayal, Kouma was just an extremely strong half-demon hybrid who attacked with his fierce strength alone. Even though ''VideoGame/MeltyBlood'' gave him flame powers, he still fits as this to a certain degree. In fact, he functionally lives as a monk now.
* CallingYourAttacks: Kouma shouts out almost all of his attacks in ''VideoGame/MeltyBlood'', but special mention goes to:
-->'''''Dokuhaku, Enbu ENNNNNNJOOOOOOUUU!!!'''''
-->'''''Koushuu Enbu DAIIII EEENNNJOOOOOOOUUUU!!!'''''
* CoatCape: Kouma is regularly seen wearing his coat like this, rarely will he actually wear it normally.
* CloseRangeCombatant: In ''Videogame/MeltyBlood'', He can bulldoze through moves after some of his attacks, and his goal is to grapple the enemy into oblivion.
* TheCoatsAreOff: Kouma drops off his white coat before he fights, also seen in one of his intros in ''VideoGame/MeltyBlood''.
* DeathGlare: His default expression. Hisui comments that the times Kouma lived in the Tohno mansion, he scared people away by just looking at them, with no clear intention. This is because his demon blood is so strong that it arouses an instinctive "prey animal" response in the people around him.
* DoesNotLikeShoes: To reflect his wild, simple nature.
* DramaticWind: His idle animation in ''VideoGame/MeltyBlood''; it's not clear if it's his powers or the ambience, but there are wind currents available for his clothes and hair to be flapping in the breeze.
* TheDreaded: It was set in stone by the time he anihilated the Nanaya family single handedly. He also personifies death itself for Shiki [[spoiler:and easily rips off Nanaya's head.]]
* EvilLaugh: Kouma drops one when he is being beaten in ''VideoGame/MeltyBlood'', he really likes the action.
* {{Expy}}: Kouma borrows some aspects of Araya Souren's design: hair style, chiseled body and stoic expression.
* EyeScream: Had an eye put out by Kiri Nanaya when he was a child.
* TheGrappler: He is the designated grappler of ''Melty Blood''. However, he isn't a traditional MightyGlacier grappler with one super-powerful command grab and is more centered around getting in combos and throwing people around with the grabs he does have.
* HalfHumanHybrid: The only one that Kiri Nanaya couldn't kill.
* HeroicWillpower: Most mixed-bloods snap under the pressure of their (comparatively weaker) murderous instincts. Kouma didn't. Part of it was because he was too broken to crack, and the rest was this.
* ImplacableMan: His incarnation as Shiki's fear; Kouma doesn't utter a word, he keeps pushing forward as Shiki struggles to defeat him, plowing through trees like they were nothing. It's actually nearly a replay of how Shiki's father died. The only difference is that Shiki has better offensive abilities, though his physique isn't up to par. This is emulated in ''Type Lumina'' by having many of his moves have [[ImmuneToFlinching super armor]] tied to them with EX Godly Armor even giving him super armor for extended period, meaning that he can iron through most attacks thrown at him.
* InsaneEqualsViolent: Played straight with the mental construct in ''Kagetsu Tohya''. Generally averted with the ''real'' Kishima, who only becomes violent in situations where '''anyone''' would be. (Watching assassins kill your family, being shot in the head, etc.) He's still... decidedly non-neurotypical.
* LargeAndInCharge: The strongest half-demon hybrid in the series, and the last leader of the Kishima family by virtue of the rest of them being dead.
* LastOfHisKind: The last Kishima, by his own doing no less. He held in his demon-blooded impulses for his entire life, instinctively trying to protect his family despite their wretched treatment of him, until someone shot him in the head to try to put him down like an animal. It didn't work, [[SelfMadeOrphan and it was the last bit of abuse they ever had the chance to heap on him]].
%%* LightningBruiser: Depending on how you play him in ''Melty Blood'' he can be either this or MightyGlacier, but the story definitely places him as the former.
* MinorInjuryOverreaction: During his fight with Kiri, he is silent and mostly unresponsive as the assassin continually attacks him, his weapons bouncing off with no effect. However, when Kiri's final strike to his neck manages to ''actually'' hurt him (and would have killed him if it had gone just a little deeper), he goes on a batshit rampage and kills a good majority of the Nanaya clan by himself.
* NoSocialSkills: He prefers the company of animals to people. See TheQuietOne below.
* OddFriendship: With Kohaku.
* PeekABangs: He wears his hair over his ruined eye.
* PlayingWithFire: Added in ''Melty Blood'' to tie his powers to Akiha's and to make his attacks [[RuleOfCool look more impressive]].
* PowerDyesYourHair: Extreme usage of his powers makes his hair go crimson red, the same as Akiha.
* RedBaron: Kouma has been dubbed as ''Crimson Red Vermillion'' and ''Fierce Red God''.
* TheQuietOne: Kouma is not fond of lengthy conversations and only talks when extremely necessary for him. Kouma's stay at the Tohno's Mansion had him at his most silent times, Hisui comments that he talked with no one except Makihisa, and even then as little as possible.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Reverting to his demon heritage grants Kouma striking red eyes.
* {{Retool}}: His initial appearance in ''Kagetsu Tohya'' made no mention that Kouma could ignite flames, only that he was ungodly tough, fast, and strong. Come ''VideoGame/MeltyBlood'' and Kouma's powers apparently share similar origins to Akiha's, as they actually are distant relatives.
* RuleOfCool: Apparently the reason ''VideoGame/MeltyBlood'' introduced his flames as the standard power set for being a half-demon hybrid; it looks damn cool with his attacks.
* SelfMadeOrphan: Killed his entire family in a fit of rage, most likely by reverting to his demon heritage after one of them shot him in the head.
%%* SleevesAreForWimps
* SmallRoleBigImpact: The real flesh-and-blood Kouma never appeared in the games or visual novels, so he has zero impact during the present story. However, he plays a very important part in the past -- right before meeting Kouma, Kiri Nanaya had been doing pretty well in dispatching Tohno attackers on his clan, and was about to head and kill the leaders behind the raid, i.e Makihisa, and seemed to have a real shot at succeeding too. Even if he failed, other Nanaya's could reasonably launch a better resistance and even repel the raid. [[ForWantOfANail Had Kouma not been there on that night]] to kill Kiri and slaughter the Nanayas, then Shiki would have never been taken into the Tohno family -- the turning point that led to the series of events that defined the current situation, the cast's personalities and their relations between each other, would have never happened.
* TheSpeechless: Kouma said only ''a few words'' through all of ''Kagetsu Tohya''; his first appearance was that of a child that didn't know how to talk, because his parents kept him locked in a cage without any proper affection and education. His appearance as an adult was Shiki's fear taken form; while adult Kouma could talk normally, this illusion could not, or chose not to.
* TheStoic: Not big on showing off his feelings. How much of that is due to his canonical mental disorder is anyone's guess.
** In ''Type Lumina'', when a character activates [[LetsGetDangerous Moon Drive]], the opponent always wears an expression of [[OhCrap surprise or worry]], except Kouma, who has the same stoic death glare whether he's on the giving or receiving end.
* SuperBreedingProgram: His family ran one for generations, trying to bring the demonic streak in their blood to the forefront. Of course, once they had what they thought they wanted...
* SuperToughness: His skin is like steel, though he is not impervious to attack. All the same, well,... TisOnlyABulletInTheBrain.
* UnskilledButStrong: The reason why Kiri Nanaya was able to last so long against him. He had nothing but brute strength and incredibly tough endurance when they fought, though he's apparently been learning martial arts since.
* WarriorPoet: Some of his winning quotes in ''Melty Blood'' are of poetic nature, which makes sense given his monk-like lifestyle and love of nature.
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: Strange mixture of played straight and subverted; he is the most powerful demon hybrid in existence, which he controls effortlessly by the virtue of being ''born'' insane. Despite that, he is an introvert who lives quietly in the mountains among the animals, and only ever seems to have done violence to other humans when goaded by someone else.
* WorldsStrongestMan: Kouma is the strongest half-demon hybrid in the world, and one of the heavy contenders in the Franchise/{{Nasuverse}}.
* YouWillBeSpared: Decided to spare a young Shiki during the massacre against the Nanaya's because he believed fate would pit them against each other in the future. This echoes why Nanaya Kiri chose to spare the young Kouma, instead putting out his eye so that he would have a fighting chance when the latter was fully grown.

[[folder:Nanako/Seven]]
!!!Voiced by: Creator/HarukaTomatsu (JP)
[[quoteright:184:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Seven_t05_7588.png]]

Nanako is the spirit that lives inside of Ciel's ultimate weapon, the Seventh Holy Scripture and the focus of the sidestory told from Arihiko's perspective. She can manifest herself as a weapon or as a cute horse-girl with blonde hair. She runs away from Ciel to Arihiko's house in ''Kagetsu Tohya'', where he gives her the name "Nanako" because previously she had only been referred to by Ciel as "Seven." She is afraid of Ciel's angry side, but is also attached to her. She was human once, but was willingly sacrificed and combined with the horn of a unicorn in order to make a powerful weapon.
----
* AttendingYourOwnFuneral: Unlike most examples, she really ''was'' dead at the time. She rather enjoyed her send-off.
* ButtMonkey: She runs away from home to take refuge in Arihiko's house and escape Ciel's abuse. Considering how badly Arihiko treats her, she ''still'' doesn't want to go back home.
--->'''Nanako:''' Wow, another insult. That makes it the two hundred and eighty-second time Arihiko-san has hurt my feelings.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: She volunteered to be sacrificed due to her affinity with the dead unicorn. She held no grudge and was saddened when her guilty mother failed to understand that she was okay with dying for what she considered a noble cause.
* IdiotHair: She has a strand of hair sticking up on the top of her head.
* LittleBitBeastly: Nanako has hooves, a tail, and long ears. Otherwise, she looks human.
* PointyEars: Her ears are slightly long and pointy. Presumably she didn't have them as a mortal girl but rather acquired them during the sacrifice.
* SevenIsNana: Arihiko is annoyed at how she doesn't have a proper name and calls her Nanako instead.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Carrots, raw from the 'fridge.

[[folder:Tonami Kugamine]]
[[quoteright:275:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tonami_kugamine.png]]

Tonami is the head of the Kugamine family, which is another branch family of the Tohnos like the Arimas. Their family, like the Arimas, has very little demonic powers. However, the Kugamine family ''is'' incredibly rich. Tonami was a person living at the Tohno mansion as a freeloader before the events of Tsukihime and was engaged to Akiha. Once Makihisa died and Akiha became head of the family, she dissolved their engagement and kicked him out with all of the other relatives staying at the mansion before Shiki returned. He is fat, perverted, a JerkAss, and downright creepy. He's basically put in the story as a joke whenever a character needs to deal with or beat up someone especially slimy.
----
* ArrangedMarriage: Apparently, he liked the idea. Akiha did not.
* TheChewToy: Many of his appearances involving him being abused.
* DirtyOldMan: He has a pronounced tendency towards leering.
* FatBastard: Akiha was quite happy to have him out of the house.
* UpperClassTwit: One of the wealthier associates of the Tohno family, but he tends to annoy the main cast.

[[folder:Maiko Yamase]]

The protagonist and viewpoint character of the ''Dawn'' sidestory in ''Kagetsu Tohya''. Maiko Yamase was more or less ordinary in every way. She lived with her sister and mother, went to school, learned martial arts, and led a simple life. And then she was eaten. Having stayed out late to get a gift for her sister, she had been on her way home when she heard the sounds of a fight from the local park, and went to investigate, feeling confident that she could drive off the aggressor with her karate. She didn't even have the time to realize how far out of her league she was -- as soon as she was near, Nrvnqsr Chaos consumed her, and she died.\\\

And then something rather unexpected happened. She woke up. it transpired that, after Nrvnqsr Chaos' apparent death at Shiki's hands, the remnants had pulled themselves together and been reborn from the small amounts of Chaos that Arcueid had used to heal Shiki's wounds. Without the consciousness of Fabro Rowan, the identity and personality that acted as the 'face' of the gestalt being was now Maiko Yamase. Maiko, only barely in control of the Chaos and with no idea what was going on, was left to wander the streets, and eventually came to understand what she now was enough to know that she was a monster and a danger to others, and allowed herself to be killed by Shiki.
----

* AdaptedOut: With no Nrvnqsr Chaos in the remake, she and her death scene are absent in it as well.
* AloofBigSister: To her little sister, Akemi.
* AscendedFanfic: ''Dawn'' was written by a fan (Kugane Maruyama, later known for [[{{LightNovel/Overlord2012}} Overlord]]), but since it was mentioned as a source of information in Plus Period, its considered canon.
* BigSisterInstinct: Again, to her little sister Akemi. Maiko is dedicated to protecting her little sister, to the point that Akemi being in danger is what pushes her to achieve enogh control over the 666 Beasts that Shiki can kill her, eliminating the danger to Akemi.
* CameBackWrong: Of the InhumanHuman sort. Sure, she came back from the dead, and she's still more or less herself, mentally, but physically she's Nrvnqsr Chaos.
* TheFaceless: Since she's the viewpoint character throughout ''Dawn'', her face is never shown.
* ICannotSelfTerminate: Maiko has Shiki kill her to prevent the Chaos going out of control. Shiki has to be the one to do it because his Mystic Eyes are the only thing that can reliably put Nrvnqsr Chaos down -- even Arcueid couldn't manage it.
* IKnowKarate: She boasts about her having a blackbelt in karate, believing that she can help Shiki besides his protests. And then she gets slashes apart by a tiger.
* IdentityAmnesia: At first, after her resurrection, she can't remember who she is and at first thinks she's Shiki Tohno, even taking his appearance. After it's made thoroughly clear to her that she isn't him, she wanders around lost and identity-less for a while, eventually finding herself drawn to the house where her family lives and recovering her memories.
* LegacyCharacter: The second (and so far last) Nrvnqsr Chaos.
* MonstrousHumanoid: She looks human enough from the neck up, but her skin feels like rubber, and most of it is coloured pitch black.
* NighInvulnerability: Just like the original Nrvnqsr.
* TragicMonster: An ordinary person who became an unstable conglomerate of 666 monsters just because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

An English and PE teacher who suddenly arrived at Metropolitan Souya High School after the sudden death of Shiki's previous homeroom teacher. In reality, she is another member of the Holy Church, serving as an Executor.
----
* ActuallyNotAVampire: [[spoiler:After surviving being bitten by Vlov, Noel starts losing her mind over the fact that she might have been turned into a vampire, becoming more and more unhinged. Except not only didn't Vlov bite her in a way that would turn her into a vampire, [[KickThemWhileTheyAreDown she isn't even talented enough on her own]] to become a Dead Apostle in the first place. Unfortunately, this comes to light when she had already accepted Arach's offer to make her stronger, and got turned into a proper Dead Apostle]].
* AintTooProudToBeg: Several times in the story, and at least once before the story begins. Noel doesn't always face perceived danger with dignity.
* AlasPoorVillain: [[spoiler:Despite what she did, her defeat is somber to say the least, and Ciel can't help but weep at how everything turned out for her.]]
* AndThenJohnWasAZombie: A member of the Church dedicated to fighting vampires, [[spoiler:she believes she's turned into a vampire by Vlov, only for Dr. Arach to disprove that and then turn her into a Dead Apostle for real anyway, in Ciel's route.]]
* AnimalMotif: Butterflies in Ciel's route. [[spoiler:In addition to her dress being patterned off butterfly wings, [[WordOfGod Word Of God]] also compares her motif to [[ManipulativeBitch Dr. Arach's]] own spider motif, likening Noel to a butterfly trapped in a spider's web.]]
* BadassNormal: [[NormalFishInATinyPond With an emphasis on normal.]] Make no mistake, Noel ''is'' an accomplished Executor, capable of mowing down lesser-ranked vampires like the Dead or recently turned with ease. The problem is that she's no genius like [[VisualNovel/FateStayNight Kirei]] [[LightNovel/FateZero Kotomine]], or freak of nature like Ciel herself, [[AlwaysABiggerFish so she has a tendency to fold in the face of the stronger types of vampires, such as Dead Apostle Ancestors.]]
* ABirthdayNotABreak: Her birthday is on December 25, aka, Christmas itself. [[spoiler:It was on her 14th birthday on the night of Christmas eve that a Roa-possessed Elesia brutally slaughtered her entire hometown and turned her life upside down forever.]]
* BitchInSheepsClothing: As she said, she is only "overwhelmingly strong against the weak". Behind her congenial facade lies a woman who finds the greatest pleasure in inflicting pain on anyone, human or vampire, who she feels is weaker than her. This behavior likely stems from her DarkAndTroubledPast.
* BladeOnAStick: Her main weapon as an Executor is a halberd. [[spoiler:As a Dead Apostle, she can create large spiky stakes that look more like staves/jevelins that she can throw as projectiles]].
* TheBully: [[spoiler:Noel preys on anyone weaker than herself as a vent for the fear and stress she feels when dealing with her superiors, such as Ciel and Mario. She murders young vampires and even a human associated with them by gruesomely torturing them to death, which [[EveryoneHasStandards repulses Mario when he finds out.]] Once transformed into a Dead Apostle, she immediately goes on a rampage, no longer fearing punishment or retribution as she torments others for her own sick amusement.]]
* ButtMonkey: Her poor fortune is played for laugh often in Melty Blood. In her own story, both mandatory fights do not go swimmingly for her, the one with Akiha resulting in Noel ending up way over her head and having to retreat, and the climax ending with her needing to be rescued when Vlov gets serious. Mario also puppets her body in his Arc Drive, ending with a tired Noel being propelled nearly butt first into the enemy against her will as she lets loose a very characteristically shrill shriek.
* ButterflyOfDeathAndRebirth: Her dress as [[spoiler:a Dead Apostle is patterned off butterfly wings, symbolizing her transformation into a vampiric monster and return to a youthful body]].
* CallBack: [[spoiler:Dead Apostle Noel's Last Arc is similar to Len's Last Arc in previous ''Melty Blood'' games, except that Noel stuffs her opponent into a present instead of a cake before skewering them.]]
* CanonImmigrant: She is an example of how the remake differs from the original visual novel, with Nasu creating her due to the absence of any teachers in Shiki's school.
* ChaoticNeutral: Her in-universe alignment. [[spoiler:It becomes ChaoticEvil as a Dead Apostle.]]
* CloneByConversion: [[spoiler:Downplayed, but it's implied that Dr. Arach's procedure somehow made Noel into a sort of clone of Rita Rozay-en or at least a vampire from the Rozay-en lineage as Noel not only gains Rita's mystic eyes but also the power to sprout [[GreenThumb thorny vines]] from her person]].
* ConnectedAllAlong: She and Ciel are established coworkers, but Ciel's route reveals that the two's backstories are actually intertwined as [[spoiler:Noel was one of the people victimized by Roa during the time he possessed Ciel, which forms the foundation for their complex feelings toward each other.]]
* CuteAndPsycho: [[spoiler:Her Dead Apostle self looks like her 14-year old self with pink hair and frilly pink butterfly costume plus a cutesy voice that altogether make her superficially look like a teen idol singer... who also happens to be a sadist.]]
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:She was a victim and the only survivor of her town when Roa manifested with Ciel as the host.]]
* {{Deuteragonist}}: Neko-Arc calls Noel a "sub-heroine" as while she is obviously not the main focus of Ciel's route, she still gets a lot of development throughout the story, including stand-alone scenes, [[spoiler:even though, in the end, she fulfills the role of the [[ProtagonistJourneyToVillain tragic heroine]]]].
* EtTuBrute: [[spoiler:It is obvious that the boy she liked all those years ago [[DirtyCoward betraying her to save himself]] left a deep scar in her heart. Shiki reminding her of the boy and being to Ciel what she wanted that boy to be to herself [[GreenEyedMonster fuels her hatred for the both of them]] later in the route.]]
* FaceHeelTurn: [[spoiler:In Ciel's route. Despite being an ally at first, she starts to slowly lose it when she suspects she might have been infected by Vlov, and later becomes a full on villain after Dr Arach turns her into an actual Dead Apostle.]]
%%* {{Foil}}: To Satsuki Yumizuka, [[spoiler:[[TragicVillain another tragically turned Dead Apostle]]. Both are otherwise ordinary individuals who are overshadowed by their peers, and both started out with the allignment of ChaoticNeutral. Noel becoming a Dead Apostle was slow and exacerbated issues that Noel already had, while Satsuki's transformation was quick and drastically changed her demeanor. Their relationship with their target is also the opposite, Noel wants to make Ciel suffer, while Satsuki wants to turn Shiki out of a place of twisted love. Ability-wise, Noel is weak and average as both an Executor and a Dead Apostle, but is still an experienced combatant regardless, while Satsuki is seemingly unremarkable as a human yet has magical potential comparable to ''Ciel's'' when she becomes a Dead Apostle herself, though due to her ordinary background, she lacks combat skills to properly fight. As far as personality goes, Noel is a sadistic and cowardly jerk behind her affable demeanor even before turning while Satsuki is genuinely sweet, and even after becoming a vampire, chooses to use her newfound abilities after the initial shock to help people]].
* FountainOfYouth: [[spoiler:Becoming a Dead Apostle reverts her body to how it was when she was 14 because that was when she was happiest and at her strongest. The illustrator notes in her profile clarify that she doesn't simply turn into her younger self, because the transformation changes her face as well.]]
* FreudianExcuse: Much of her sadism and cowardice [[spoiler:stems from all the horrors caused by the Dead Apostle Ancestors leaving her the lone survivor with a deep hatred and fear of the undead. Couple that with being betrayed by a boy she loved just so he could save himself, and she's pretty much fearful and hateful towards everyone stronger than her.]]
* GreenEyedMonster: In Ciel's route, [[spoiler:her murderous rage toward Ciel and Shiki stems partly from the latter reminding Noel of the boy who betrayed her all those years ago to save himself. When Shiki chooses to instead put himself at risk to save a complete stranger and later gives Ciel his love and returns her humanity, Noel could not see it as anything but Ciel being given everything she wanted while she was left behind.]]
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: Noel is self-aware of the fact that she is rather mediocre as a fighter of the church, and since her partner is Ciel, her mediocrity stands out even more. She responds by being merciless toward those who are weaker and is scared out of her mind when faced with people who are more powerful than her.
* IrrationalHatred: [[spoiler:She holds both Ciel and Roa accountable for the destruction of her hometown thirteen years ago, despite Ciel being as much of a victim of Roa as she was]].
* JerkassHasAPoint: [[spoiler: When it comes to light that Roa has possessed Shiki's body and is in a fight for dominance over it, while it may not be an ideal solution, she advocates for killing Shiki if it means killing Roa as well given it's their duty as Executors of the Church and hunting down Roa no matter where he appears. Ciel objects to this, mortally wounding Noel in the process. It becomes VillainHasAPoint when she brings this up again as a Dead Apostle.]]
* KnifeNut: She supplements her arsenal with stake-like throwing swords as opposed to the more familiar Black Keys.
* {{Leitmotif}}: "[[https://youtu.be/zFY-U-i_Fp4 Noel]]", a LonelyPianoPiece to indicate her tragic character.
* MeaningfulName: ''Noel'' is French for Christmas. She's named that because she was born on Christmas Day (a common naming convention in real life) but the holiday has much more significance for her, as [[spoiler:her entire life was turned upside down on Christmas Eve when Roa took over the town and slaughtered everyone she knew.]]
* NormalFishInATinyPond: In her own words, she is "weak against the strong, but overwhelmingly strong against the weak". Against corpses, ghouls and recently-transformed vampires, she can massacre them with cold professionalism. But most people in the story look down on her as she is now dealing with targets ''much'' higher on the Dead Apostle rankings than she is comfortable with. [[spoiler:Once transformed into a Dead Apostle, she rampages around like a true terror despite still being weaker than Ciel or Roa.]]
* OnlyOneName: Like with Ciel, you never find out her last name or if she even has a last name to begin with.
* PowerDyesYourHair: Her hair turns pink after [[spoiler:becoming a Dead Apostle]], which contrasts her previously normal brown hair.
* PsychicLink: [[spoiler:Dead Apostle Noel's Mystic Eyes of Roses allows her to create a telepathic connection with anyone who looks into her eyes, allowing her to subject the target into MindRape by playing out her traumatic backstory to them or outright sealing their mind within her own.]]
* PutOnABus: In Arcueid's route, she quits working at the school due to Vlov being taken care of and no longer needing to monitor for potential Roa hosts.
* RealNameAsAnAlias: When posing as a teacher, she goes by Noel Aizome. Aizome is clearly chosen to pretend she's half-Japanese to make her presence more believable to the students, but Noel is later shown to be her actual name.
* ReassignedToAntarctica: [[spoiler:Ciel, growing concerned over Noel's deteriorating mental state, arranges for Noel to be taken off duty and to live out the rest of her life in seclusion at a nunnery. Noel, considering this to be a personal hell for herself, pushing her further down the path of self-destruction.]]
* {{Sadist}}: Partly due to her past, her general frustration at her own relative powerlessness, and [[spoiler:her fears that she's succumbing to vampirism]], Noel displays some frightening sadistic tendencies directed towards vampires, ranging from providing them with [[HopeSpot hope for a cure for their vampirism before slaughtering them in droves]], to simple ColdBloodedTorture. [[spoiler:When she herself becomes a Dead Apostle, these tendencies become directed towards Ciel and Shiki, and she proceeds to attempt to MindRape the both of them.]]
* SanitySlippage: Noel is clearly already not in her right mind once we learn of her sadistic nature, but being bitten by Vlov, shown up by Ciel, terrified of the Church's higher-ups, and [[spoiler:transformed into a Dead Apostle]] did ''not'' help.
* TheSlacker: In Melty Blood, Ciel laments the fact that not only does Noel show up one month late, she then spends all her free time shopping rather than investigating. Many of Noel's own victory quotes also indicate that this is how she spends her time when not on the job.
* SmugSnake: As an Executor, Noel generally takes this attitude towards vampires, [[{{Sadist}} to often nightmarish extremes]]. While quite capable of dispatching the lower ranks of vampires, when Vlov gets involved, she quickly falls apart.
** [[spoiler:While normally quite well aware of her lack of power in the grand scheme of things, becoming a vampire causes Noel to drastically overestimate her newfound power, [[MotiveDecay not only disregarding Roa as a target for her revenge because she assumes she's now more powerful than him,]] but causing her to treat Shiki and Ciel as targets to torture, meaning she doesn't immediately try to kill them.]]
* SuicideAttack: [[spoiler:Having been mortally wounded by Ciel, Noel injects herself with the shot that Arach warned would kill her, causing her body to erupt into a storm of thorny vines that Noel tries to lunge into Ciel. Ciel catches Noel with the Seventh Holy Scripture and uses it to kill her for good.]]
* TheTease: When Shiki runs into her at school, she begins flirting with him. She starts by letting him admire her nape and then getting right up to him so he could feel her body heat, telling him that she wants him to [[DoubleEntendre eat her up]]. All this as she's wrapping her arms around him, and trying to remove his glasses. Once he backed off for... obvious reasons, she dismissed it as a joke, but things are a bit vague on how true that is... until she later ''continues'' flirting with him and teasing him, especially in Ciel's route.
* TemptingFate: The ending to her Type Lumina character story as a Dead Apostle has her claiming she doesn't need to fear the Executors. The very next textbox accompanies a CG of her defeated, and she soon laments how this wouldn't have happened if she chose to kill Ciel first.
* TragicVillain: [[spoiler:In Ciel's Route, where she becomes a major enemy. It is clear she never truly recovered from the tragedy caused by Roa with Ciel as his host, and in her last moments she begs Ciel to give back all the things that were taken from her.]]
* VillainHasAPoint: [[spoiler: Like the above JerkassHasAPoint, Noel points out even as a Dead Apostle that she and Ciel have a duty to see Roa killed no matter what form he takes. Though given Roa has possessed Shiki, whom Ciel likes, Noel calls her out for backing out on killing him and getting it over with.]]
* YankTheDogsChain: Her ending in ''Type: Lumina'' has her planning on enjoying the high life while continuing to act as a teacher now that the vampire threat is over, but she notices Satsuki Yumizuka wandering around the back alleys and decides to be a responsible adult and have a talk with her... [[spoiler:As a Dead Apostle, her ending has her celebrating how there's nobody left who can threaten her, only for her body to suddenly start disintegrating for unknown reasons, causing her to panic and despair. Ciel then appears and declares that she will purify Noel's soul before she dies so she may be granted salvation in the end. Noel accepts that her fate is sealed and laments not killing Ciel first.]] Her Boss Rush ending double subverts this trope. When it looks like she had finally won and achieved a happy ending, it turns out she was sick and sleeping all this time, yanking away her happy ending. Then it turns out it wasn't all fake and Shiki had begun helping her out after she nearly got ran over by a truck, looking like she might finally have someone who cares for her going forward. THEN three angry heroines show up demanding an explanation, with the narration asking what will happen to her now. Noel just can't catch a break.
* YouRemindMeOfX: It's heavily implied that Shiki reminds Noel of an exchange student she had a crush on when she was 14. [[spoiler:The same exchange student [[DirtyCoward who tried to use Noel as a decoy when they were surrounded by the Dead,]] when everything went to hell in Noel's town.]]

[[folder:Mario Gallo Bestino]]
!!!Voiced by: Creator/AyaneSakura
[[quoteright:160:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mario_th_full.png]]
A member of the Holy Church who recently moved to Japan to act as a bishop, he serves as the superior to all Church agents in Souya.
----
* AmazonBrigade: While the gender of the Executors who assist Mario directly were never stated in the visual novel, ''Melty Blood'' shows that he is assisted by an entire squad of nuns, all equipped with variety of weapons.
* AssistCharacter: Much of his gameplan in ''Type Lumina'' involves him calling upon various nuns to attack the opponent on his behalf. He even shares his Arc Drive with Noel... mainly by calling Noel herself to do her Arc Drive for him.
* AmbiguouslyEvil: For the most part, Mario is simply a "mean, but well-meaning" Church operative who will get to the point to help those in need. But in his story mode in ''Type Lumina'', Aoko had gone after Roa under the request of ''Zelretch himself'' because something bad will happen if Mario and Roa come into an agreement between the two. While Mario calls Aoko out for thinking that twelve-year old kid like him would be evil, it is left ambiguous just what Zelretch meant by his comment, was it something like Laurentis might not being as good as he seems to be or if [[UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom Mario would do something foolish]] to complete his goal.
* AnArmAndALeg: [[spoiler:He loses multiple limbs in Ciel’s route courtesy of Arcueid. In the Normal Ending, it is shown that he not only survived the encounter, but he doesn't even seem too bothered about losing his limbs and his thirty Executors]].
* CanonWelding: He is the son (legally on paper, a grandson) of Cardinal Laurentis, a Church member previously only seen in the alternate timeline of ''VideoGame/FateExtra''.
* ContinuityNod: His presence and backstory exposition in part explains why Laurentis believed himself to be unfit to be Pope in ''EXTRA'': Laurentis, despite being an ordained Cardinal, has an insatiable sex drive for women and has hundreds of illegitimate children.
* EveryoneHasStandards: Sure, the Holy Church hunts vampires and the Burial Agency sees both Apostles and Ancestors as prey. Mario is also no saint, as he enjoys flexing his authority and causing trouble, only relenting when he [[KnowWhenToFoldEm knows he’s bitten off more than he can chew]]. However, he is disgusted when [[spoiler:Noel brutally tortures young and starving vampires and even a human who was associating with them, not even for her job but solely to vent her stress.]]
* ImmortalitySeeker: Dialogue between him and Roa suggests that he is after Roa's immortality research for Laurentis' sake, with Roa mocking Laurentis as a man like him cannot attain immortality.
* ImprobableAge: He is younger than most of the known members of the Holy Church as a teenager, but his official role in the Church is working as a newly assigned ''bishop'' of all things.
* LawfulGood: His in-universe alignment.
* RazorFloss: In ''Melty Blood'', he uses the wires of his Piano Machine as both weapons to slice and ensnare opponents and as mobility tools to swing himself around and launch himself into the air.
* PhenotypeStereotype: The Italian Mario has pale blonde hair and green eyes. He is the only character in ''A piece of blue glass moon'' besides Arcueid to have blonde hair, both of which emphasize their foreignness in the Japanese city setting.
* PunnyName: He can turn people into PeoplePuppets by using gauntlets that produce string that he can then use to control other people. This means that he is a '''[[MarionetteMaster Mario]]'''[[MarionetteMaster nette Master]].
* PuppetFighter: Rather apt considering his main ability that he plays like this in ''Type Lumina''.
* VagueAge: His official profile estimates him to be in the range of 12 to 14 years old but doesn't commit to a number. He talks about Arcueid like he knows her personally, and has fought against a Demon Lord, a fallen True Ancestor, before, so he had definitely worked around the block for some time.
* YouAreFat: He makes a few rather unflattering comments about Noel's weight during his interactions with her in ''Melty Blood''.
* YoungAndInCharge: He's 14 at oldest and all of the Church members he's overseeing are all adults, with 25 year old Ciel being the second youngest out of the group.

[[folder:Vlov Arkhangel]]
!!!Voiced by: Creator/KenjiroTsuda
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vlov_full.png]]

The current holder of the 19th seat of the Dead Apostle Ancestors, inheriting the position from Zaria Offenbaum. He was formerly a knight who was exiled from his kingdom due to false charges. He wandered the world until he reaches the frozen ocean where he found Zaria and was adopted by her. He served Zaria like she was his liege and was gifted with warmth in return. But the cold pain in his soul couldn't heal, leading to him abandoning his creed as a knight and rebelling against Zaria, leaving his home as the next Dead Apostle Ancestor. He has now arrived in Souya in order to warm his heart by consuming other's blood.
----
* AbstractEater: He is so starved for warmth that he drinks people's blood not just because he's a Dead Apostle, but so that he can drain their heat.
* ActorAllusion: Vlov's appearance in ''Type Lumina''[='s=] Boss Rush has him gifting Miyako an expansion pack for "that popular card game". Now what is one of Creator/KenjiroTsuda's [[Anime/YuGiOh most notable roles]]? For some irony, him living in the GrimUpNorth means that he is a few generations behind in terms of the newest expansions.
* BerserkButton: The otherwise cool-headed Vlov suddenly flies into fits of rage if someone were to try to dig into his past.
* ChaoticGood: His in-universe alignment.
* CoatCape: Carries around a fuzzy winter coat over his shoulders with golden decorations keeping it from just falling off.
* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: Vlov is intentionally designed to contrast the original's villains by being a classical Gothic vampire with simple powers to both Nrvnqsr and Roa's simple, not particularly fancy designs and very unorthodox powers. In addition, Nrvnqsr and Vlov have contrasting relationships with Roa. The former is a friend of Roa but was not actively involved in the plot because of that and Vlov holds [[spoiler:an active grudge against Roa]], large enough to move to Souya to accomplish revenge.
* EmptyShell: [[spoiler:A downplayed example. Vlov is far too young to bear the burden of his Principle, which constantly threatens to overwhelm and crush him. Since he spends most of his mental energy suppressing it, his higher reasoning functions are greatly reduced, resulting in him wandering around in a dream-like state and acting mostly on instinct. His true personality only really comes out when he's low on blood or driven into a corner in the heat of battle.]]
* AnIcePerson: [[spoiler:His ''actual'' Principle as an Ancestor is that of Freezing, not flames. He creates spears of ice to use in his fight with Shiki and Arcueid, and emanates such an arctic-like atmosphere with his aura that it would almost instantly murder a human like Shiki from the sheer cold of being in his presence.]]
* IronicName: His surname is one letter different from archangel, yet he is as opposed to being part of the Church as you can get without being a literal demon.
* JoustingLance: [[spoiler:His weapon when channeling the cold is a lance he can encase in ice, making the already long lance even longer.]]
* {{Leitmotif}}: An [[https://youtu.be/__PyXTHX2lw ominous symphonic rock track]] simply titled "Vlov", which slowly transforms into several different variants over the narrative, culminating in its final form for when [[spoiler:his true Principle is revealed]], the "[[spoiler:Icefield]] [[https://youtu.be/kmmRvTaykMw Waltz]] (Vlov IV)". This version of his theme discards the rock elements, which symbolizes his flame in favor of a piano waltz.
* ManOfWealthAndTaste: His overall appearance gives off the "vampire nobleman" look with purple coat and gold trimming, a stark contrast to the simple-dressed antagonists of the original ''Tsukihime''.
* MonsterKnight: Vlov was formerly a knight and while he has abandoned his creed of duty in the past, this trait of him is still relevant. He was taught swordplay by Be'ze which he uses with a cleaver-like sword and [[spoiler:switches it out to using an actual lance when using his Principle properly]].
* {{Matricide}}: [[spoiler:Zaria had been acting as Vlov's "vampire parent" for the last hundred years, so him killing her is this.]]
* PlayingWithFire: He primarily attacks people with fire and unleashes scorching infernos that instantly burn everything to a crisp. Arcueid points out that Shiki's assumption in Vlov being the serial killer is wrong because of this, since there would be no body left behind if they were killed by him.
* PowerIncontinence: [[spoiler:The reason for his fire powers is because he does not have full control over his Principle. Because Principle of Freezing is "depriving things of heat", inefficient usage of it causes the heat to leak out of him as vaporizing flames, which he has some but not complete control over.]]
* ItsPersonal: ''Type Lumina'' reveals he has a grudge against [[spoiler:Roa for seemingly stealing away the past 200 years away from him, with him wanting to get to Arcueid partly as a way to get revenge to Roa.]]
* RedHerring: He has black dog familiars that attack Shiki before he appears in person, tricking the reader into thinking that the attacker is still Nrvnqsr like in the original ''Tsukihime''.
* {{Revenge}}: He wants revenge for unknown reasons, which is one reason for his travel to Tokyo.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: He replaces Nrvnqsr as the Dead Apostle Ancestor whose role is to be defeated and assumed to be the main problem dealt with, only for Roa to reveal himself as the true threat.
* TurnsRed: In ''Type Lumina'', if Vlov is in a losing round he will [[spoiler:switch into using his Principle properly]], making his elemental attacks more potent.
* VampiresHarem: The guy has ''ten wives'' provided to him by Zaria, whom he seems to care a lot of. He tries to get Akiha to be his eleventh wife, but she refuses by the polygamous relationship alone.

[[quoteright:275:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ara_l_00_00_n00_2.png]]

Makihisa's old acquaintance in university, due to her closeness with the Tohno family through him, she has been working for Akiha as a consultant in both architectural and medical matters.
----
* AffablyEvil: Is ''definitely'' not a good person, but her friendliness is entirely genuine, [[spoiler:as seen when she turns Noel into a Dead Apostle.]]
* AmbiguouslyRelated: Arach has not-so subtle spider motifs and [[spoiler:some kind of fascination with Dead Apostles, which include turning people into one through experiments]]. The remake also introduces [[spoiler:spider-headed ghouls and a seemingly new spider Dead Apostle Ancestor, and namedrops "Modding Maniac" in Vlov's material profile]]. ''-A piece of blue glass moon-'' doesn't connect any of these together, [[SequelHook possibly leaving them open to be explored in]] ''-The other side of red garden-'' or a proper sequel.
* AnimalMotif: Spiders. It's literally in her name. She also compares herself to one as a "spider without a web going wherever the wind would take her" before she met Makihisa.
* ChaoticGood: Her in-universe alignment. [[BlatantLies She swears.]]
* {{Expy}}: There’s a lot about her that’s reminiscent of [[VisualNovel/FateStayNight Fujimura Taiga]], particularly in her [[GenkiGirl hyperactive expressiveness]].
* {{Foil}}: Every morning after Shiki is injured, he gets a choice to be examed by Arach or Kohaku. The former is an unlicensed surgeon and the latter is an unlicensed pharmacist and seitai practitioner. Arach's exams have her comment on the amount of pain in Shiki's injuries and drop hints to Shiki's and Akiha's true natures. Kohaku's exams have her cluelessly forget the topic of pain due to her FeelsNoPain situation and encourage Shiki to be considerate to Akiha's feelings and avoid pursuing her secrets.
* GenkiGirl: Arach is one of the most energetic and expressive people in the remake, constantly excited about everything she sees or does. [[spoiler:Including transforming Noel into a Dead Apostle.]]
* HiddenAgendaVillain: [[spoiler:Ciel’s route marks her as an outright antagonist, and she has an [[AmbiguousSituation unclear]] but definitely extant connection to the Dead Apostle Ancestors, but her goals, motives, and pretty much any other information are as yet unknown.]]
** [[spoiler:It is heavily implied that she is the spider-shaped Dead Apostle Ancestor present during the French Incident, since spider-like Ghouls were among the undead that devoured Ciel’s village like they were in Souya.]]
* HospitalHottie: A (unqualified) medical practitioner and just ''look at her''.
* KarmaHoudini: [[spoiler:Even though she is responsible for turning Noel into a Dead Apostle in Ciel's route, Dr. Arach never pays for it. In Ciel's Normal End, she is even shown to be alive and well at the Tohno mansion at the end, seemingly with nobody the wiser about her involvement in the plot.]]
* {{Leitmotif}}: "[[https://youtu.be/r-zQjr8eKA0 Arach's Theme]]", an energetic yet eccentric march to complement her quirky persona. It has a DarkReprise [[https://youtu.be/911DpdzzKHY version]] for when [[spoiler:she turns Noel into a Dead Apostle]].
* MadDoctor: She rivals Kohaku in ominous use of medicine and has very visible glee or disappointment when interacting with Shiki on medical business, whether it be treating wounds or administering vaccines. [[spoiler:She also mysteriously has in-depth knowledge on Dead Apostles, as she knows precisely what to use for turning someone like Noel into a Dead Apostle. This includes Dead Apostle Ancestors as Noel gains Rozay-en's Mystic Eyes of Roses from Arach's experiments.]]
* PunnyName: Her name is taken from ''arach''nid.
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: The top of her blouse is opened up to the point where it exposes her bra.
* SuperDoc: She is mainly a scientist, but she's also a qualified architect ''and'' can work as a surgeon on a professional level despite not having a license.
* UnreliableExpositor: Her Material profile is written from her perspective where most of her answers are either non-answers ("Age: Who cares?") or her outright lying like with her alignment.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom:
** [[spoiler:Akiha's borderline abusive upbringing was caused by her suggesting to Makihisa that strict education was a good stopgap measure to contain Akiha's miraculously powerful oni blood]].
** One of Ciel route's bad ends happen if you choose to let her inject Shiki with a vaccine she claims doesn't hurt a bit. While Arach seemed to have hoped to see some results regardless of which vaccine you take, taking that specific one causes [[spoiler:Roa to take Shiki's body few days later, something that most likely wasn't in her plans.]]

[[quoteright:235:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/got_a_01_00_n00.png]]

A mysterious individual Shiki meets hanging around the Tohno mansion.
----
* AscendedExtra: In the original canon, he was just part of the family who [[spoiler:Kiri Nanaya was sent to take out in the Red Demon God story from ''Kagetsu Tohya''.]] He now has a much more substantial role in the remake simply by virtue of being involved in the main story's plot.
* BandagedFace: His entire face is wrapped in black bandages, which just adds more to the oddness surrounding him to both Shiki and the player.
* ChaoticNeutral: His in-universe alignment for the remake.
* LastNameBasis: He tells Shiki to refer to him by his surname, thinking that his first name doesn't deserve any recognition.
* ShoutOut: Nasu confirmed in the design notes that his BandagedFace design is a homage to the rubber mask worn by Kiyo Inugami in Seishi Yokomizo's ''The Inugami Clan.''

* ChaoticNeutral: Her in-universe alignment.
* ChekhovsGunman: Her illustrator notes state that her presence in ''-A piece of blue glass moon-'' is really just to establish this character exists and that she will be more relevant in future stories.
* GivenNameReveal: She introduces herself only as Mio and the player has to unlock an optional scene where she reveals her last name is Saiki, which hints at a connection to Gouto.
* IdenticalStranger: {{Downplayed}}, but Mio looks remarkably similar to [[VisualNovel/FateStayNight Tohsaka Rin]].

* {{Irony}}:

----
* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: She's called a princess ''because'' she's a badass.

* FriendlyNeighborhoodVampire: Well, he's still a jerk, but he's a ''good'' jerk.
* PresentAbsence:

* {{Kaiju}}: ORT is a forty-meter-tall, vaguely spider-ish, half-UFO creature.

* AnimalMotifs:
* HeelFaceTurn:
* PosthumousCharacter:
* SpellMyNameWithAThe:
* SwordAndGun: Enhance's fighting style.
