An elf from the Darkwood, Gilfane is a willing ally and agent of the benevolent wizard Yaztromo, and is often sent far from the borders of his homeland to undertake the wizard's bidding. Whilst highly tolerant of dwarves, to the point his typical adventuring partner is a dwarf agent of Yaztromo's called Kagand, he despises both users of black magic, especially necromancers, and the dark elves. His special skills are his Dexterity, which allows him to easily complete certain feats of speed and agility, and his vast Education, which gives him a much wider array of knowledge than the typical adventurer.

Half-Orc daughter of an orcish mercenary and a human mother, Ellion grew up in the mean streets of Port Blacksand, but was saved from a life of petty thuggery by a priest of the sun goddess, Glantanka, who punished her for trying to mug him, but then took her in and cared for her. She has since become a priestess of Glantanka in her own right, and taken to adventuring, armed with holy magic, sword, shield and crossbow. Her reason for coming to Firetop Mountain is personal; she believes her father, G'Aarak, is working for Zagor, and she wishes to confront him. Aside from her Righteous powers, her Orcish blood is her greatest asset in this mission, as orcs are more willing to talk to a halfbreed than to a human.

Added DiffLines:

* LogicalWeakness: Although Ellion is half human and a devoted servant of one of the Gods of Order, she is still by blood an orc, and thus a creature of Chaos. As a result, she is vulnerable to effects that specifically target orcs or creatures of Chaos; this means she cannot take the Eye of the Iron Cyclops as a weapon against Zagor, suffering 5 damage if she touches it once and then being destroyed if she tries again, and if she attempts to drink from the healing fountain north of the ruined dwarven hall, she dies, as the magical liquid is poisonous to orcs and goblins.

I've been playing the Nintendo Switch adaptation of the Tin Man Studios game, and I felt that the playable characters deserved a mention here. I haven't unlocked them all, so only some of these descriptions mention their personal quest. Please expand.

Added DiffLines:

Whilst the original gamebook leaves fleshing out your character's identity entirely up to you, the video game adaptation produced by Tin Man Studios instead presents you with an array of potential characters to take into Zagor's dungeon, each with their own distinct stats, backstory, personal quest and abilities. Only four of these characters are playable by default; Lunika Ekaadi, Dekion Strom, Alexandra of Blacksand, and Arran Gottspeed. The others must be unlocked by purchasing them with "souls" that are harvested from each enemy the player kills during their runs through the dungeon.

!!Lunika Ekaadi
A spear-wielding warrior-woman and explorer, driven by wanderlust and a fascination with excitement. Whilst she probably would have come to Firetop Mountain anyway, she has been lured here in pursuit of a powerful and sacred relic of the Old Gods known as the Amulet of Ashra, which was stolen by an evil fire elementalist named Kosben Minamin, who rumor says has become one of the underlings of Zagor. Her special skills are her Dexterity, which allows her to easily complete certain feats of speed and agility, and her Keen Eyes, which can spot hidden dangers and traps.
-----
* BladeOnAStick: Wields a spear as her weapon of choice.
* CombatPragmatist: One of her special attacks is to smear her spear's blade with poison before attacking.

!!Dekion Strom
An arrogant and greedy but skilled mercenary, Dekion was left the sole survivor of a merchant caravan that was hit by bandits on the way to Zengis, stranding him in foreign territory with almost nothing to his name. -----
* BowAndSwordInAccord: Wields a hand crossbow and a longsword as his weapon of choice, allowing him to fight at multiple ranges.

!!Alexandra of Blacksand
A famous female warrior, Alexandra has had a long and profitable association with assorted benevolent wizards, and has amassed a reputation for completely quests quickly and diplomatically, preferring to avoid conflict where she can. She comes to Firetop Mountain at the behest of a sorcerer named Kith, who wants her to discover a ruby called "the Eye of the Cyclops", retrieve it, and then make sure it gets into Zagor's hands, though she has no idea why her patron wants her to do this. Her special skills are her vast Education, which gives her a much wider array of knowledge than the typical adventurer, and the fact that she is naturally Lucky.
-----
* BadassBookworm: Any character with the Education special attribute is this, being a combat-capable adventurer whose knowledge of things can reveal all kinds of secrets that are otherwise hidden, such as being able to read secret messages in foreign tongues or knowing useful titbits about monsters or traps.

!!Arran Gottspeed
Hulking, powerfully built Arran relies on fast, brutal assaults and his ability to endure considerable punishment to crush whatever stands in his way. Those who have met him and walked away speculate he may have giant's blood somewhere in his ancestry. He dreams of competing in and winning the famous Trial of Champions in Chiang Mai, and this dream has brought him to Firetop Mountain; the Trial reputedly involved battling a fearsome minotaur, and supposedly another minotaur is amongst the monsters residing in Firetop Mountain. Arran wishes to slay this creature as part of his training. Whilst his Fearsome appearance does allow him to cow some denizens of Firetop Mountain, he suffers from Illiteracy, making it impossible for him to benefit from any knowledge that has been written down.
-----
* TheBigGuy: He has the highest health of the four starting heroes.
* DualWielding: Carries two swords, and relies on his ability to hit multiple times in multiple directions to overwhelm his foes.

!!Wanushu
Once champion of the Boneridge clan, one of the tribal groups that inhabit the Plain of Bones, Wanushu turned his back on his people and took the skills he had honed hunting his homeland's dinosaurs to become a beast-tracker, working for whoever is willing to pay him good money to capture beasts and creatures from across Allansia. Having achieved such feats as securing a rare and deadly Chaos Manticore for Baron Sukumvit's infamous Literature/DeathtrapDungeon and capturing a poison-spewing minotaur, he has come to Firetop Mountain for his latest mission: to capture a particularly intimidating specimen of the local giant spiders. His special skills are his Dexterity, which allows him to easily complete certain feats of speed and agility, and his Fearsome appearance, which he can use to intimidate some of the more cowardly denizens of the mountain.
-----
* AnAxeToGrind: Wields a huge axe as his weapon of choice.

-----
* TheBrute: With a whopping 24 health and the ability to deal 3 damage per strike instead of the usual 2 damage, Twenty Three is a combat monster. His inability to read or hide, and limited means of speech, means he generally has little option outside of combat.

She has the unique scene of being able to sit down in the orc dining hall and share soup with the orcs early in the mountain, and genuinely enjoys it. If she enters the kitchen, and it's recommended that she do so because the cook can point her towards her father's presence in the mountain, she initially thinks the cook's latest concoction smells delicious... until she sees him spit in it. !!Lin Wen-Wu
Younger twin-brother of the famous Lin Wen-Tsai, Wen-Wu would have happily spent his life as a scholar had his brother not been defeated in battle by a mighty orc warrior, who hacked off the once-proud swordsman's dominant arm and crippled him. Obligated to restore the honor of his family, he took up his brother's former role as the heir to the family's school of swordsmanship, and after three years of training has now come to Firetop Mountain in search of the orc who defeated his brother. His training has left him with great Dexterity and Keen Eyes, traits that will come in handy in his quest.
