Philip Seymour Hoffman passed away in early February 2014, seven days away from completing filming on ''Mockingjay - Part 2'' and he had already completed almost all of his scenes for ''Part 1''. Early reports after his passing stated that the production crew planned to use CGI for the rest of his scenes, but a recent interview with director Francis Lawrence reveals that they plan to use only existing footage of Hoffman for scenes in which Plutarch appears in the background and to rewrite the rest of his dialogue scenes that he had yet to film so that his lines will be spoken by other characters.

* CharacterDevelopment: More emphasized in the films, though it's present in the books too. During the 74th reaping, she's excited and completely oblivious to how terrified and beaten down everyone else is. For the 75th reaping she ''tries'' to look appropriately excited, but the most she can manage is relief that Haymitch's name comes out of the bowl instead of Peeta's - and her face crumples when Peeta promptly volunteers in Haymitch's place. Later on, she's on the verge of tears as she hands out gold accessories to the three of them so they'll all match, insisting, "We are a ''team''!"

* AgeLift[=/=]DawsonCasting: Cinna is described in the book as being a young man in his twenties. In the film series, he's played by the nearly-50 Lenny Kravitz. (In fact, Jennifer Lawrence insisted on calling him "Mr. Kravitz," given [[Film/XMenFirstClass she worked with his daughter]]).

Katniss' Avox(essentially a slave) during the 74th and 75th Hunger Games. [[spoiler:Katniss had met her previously, where she was running away from the Capitol with another boy. While the boy was killed, she was turned into an Avox. After the 75th Hunger Games, she and fellow Avox Darius were taken hostage by the Capitol, and tortured and killed in front of Peeta.]]

* CruelAndUnusualDeath: [[spoiler:Was electrocuted to death with extremely high and painful voltages.]]

* TheChessmaster: In the films, best summed up in his line about "moves and countermoves". [[spoiler: A deleted scene shows him rigging up the them of the 75th Hunger Games[=/=]3rd Quarter Quell, ostensibly to fulfill Snow's desire to have Victors kill each other and defeat the nascent rebellion by shattering bonds between Victors in particular and districts in general. The result is the opposite, as most of the Victors join the alliance set up by Haymitch to protect and rescue Katniss and Peeta and take the fight to the "real enemy".]]

* AntiVillain: Caesar's aggressively feel-good interview style puts emphasis on the strengths of his guests, ultimately bringing out the best in the tributes. Also, Katniss notes her belief that Caesar stays positive so that the tributes don't flub the interview and loose sponsors. In a way, Caesar does his best so every Tribute actually stands a chance of winning.
