While she doesn't appear in the canon OVA storylines, she is a major presence in the ''Universe'' and ''Tokyo'' timelines, becoming a full-fledged member of the harem alongside the main five girls.

* TheAce: Of the Galaxy Police, and of any other job she takes on. In ''Universe'', she was even shown as being exceptionally good as a BurgerFool.

Kiyone's primary concern was getting a promotion in the Galaxy Police, even willing to abandon Earth and all of the friends she'd made behind for it. Also, while Mihoshi also suffered from [[TookALevelInDumbass being made even less intelligent]], Kiyone seemed like she was willing to dump Mihoshi out of the nearest airlock at any given moment. Kiyone was also made rather blunt in her manner of speaking, making her characterization go from a JerkWithAHeartOfGold into a JerkWithAHeartOfJerk.
* HaremNanny: Generally tries to keep Mihoshi's bumbling in line, and has demonstrated that she could restrain Ryoko during her more violent outbursts. She's also more dependable than the other residents in matters of finances, which becomes a factor when the group runs out of food.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: For as much as Mihoshi gets on her nerves, Kiyone is at least [[CloudcuckoolandersMinder willing to make sure she doesn't get into too much trouble]]. Mihoshi also recognizes that she'd be in a lot more trouble without Kiyone, and treats her nicely for it. This kindness eventually rubs off on Kiyone, who reciprocates.
* LongevityTreatment: ''Anime/TenchiMuyoGXP'' says Galaxy Police officers all get body enhancements that let them live around 2,000 years.
* TheNotLoveInterest: Notable in that she's one of the few female characters who is exceptionally close with Tenchi ''without'' ever becoming infatuated with him, which gives the two of them a special relationship sometimes bordering on PlatonicLifePartners, at least in ''Universe''. Kiyone falls for him in ''Tokyo'', though, stating that he'd be better off with a law-abiding citizen such as herself. At any rate, in either continuity, her job comes first.
* OnlySaneWoman: In ''Tenchi Universe'' she is by far the most down-to-earth and reasonable of the women living in the Masaki house. In ''Tokyo'', she says that if Ryoko is out of the picture, then Tenchi needs a "more stable, level-headed girl" such as herself.

When Kiyone reunites with Ryoko in space, the very idea of Kiyone becoming Tenchi's girlfriend is brought up, likely as a tactic to goad Ryoko into returning. Beyond that, Kiyone isn't shown to have any romantic or flirtatious moments with Tenchi during the course of ''Tokyo''.

Ostensibly chosen as Tenchi's bride purely for political reasons, these reasons actually are spying for the Juraian government, and [[HaremNanny keeping Tenchi's potentially universe-bending harem from spiraling out of control]]. Over time, however, it seems that she's begun to develop feelings for Tenchi after all.

The two fell in love, and Azusa brought her back to his homeworld as his wife despite objections from the racist Juraian noble court. Funaho is a calm, collected tactician, prone to never raising her voice. She acts as the Minister of Intelligence for the whole Juraian Empire, and thus always knows more than she lets on.

* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: She is the Minister of Intelligence for the Emperor and of Jurai. She is also partnered to the 2nd-gen tree Mizuho.
* DrunkenMaster: In the ''True Tenchi Muyo'' novels, after Ayeka and Sasami sneak away to search for Yosho, Shuzan Amaki, one of her opponents in the Imperial Family, insults her son's honor, driving her to challenge him (and Seto's husband Utsutsumi, who horns in) to a duel. She accepts the alcohol that Utsutsumi offers, grabs a [[CarryABigStick huge club]], and yells out "Come on, you motherF***er!" before demolishing both of her opponents. Early in the fight, Seto reveals that Misaki had never been able to beat Funaho while they were sparring with staves. Things escalate to the point where both Azusa and Misaki aren't able to keep her from wrecking the meeting hall the duel was taking place in. On the bright side, [[DefeatEqualsFriendship this manages to earn Funaho respect in the Imperial Family]] -- and nobody dares to offer her a drink again. This is in reference to the episode when the Jurai royalty visits Earth and Yosho [[NoodleIncident brings it up]] to get his mother to stop needling him about not contacting her.

She was originally the Emperor's intended bride, as her family represented one of the most powerful noble clans in the entire Empire. However, when Azusa returned from his travels abroad with a new Earth wife in tow, he married Misaki anyway rather than face her wrath or the wrath of her mother.

* ActionGirlfriend: To Azusa.
* ActionMom: Natch. When she was younger, she managed to climb the insanely huge, 5 km tall Tenju tree. She's the [[AllThereInTheManual Chief Commander of the Jurai Emperor's bodyguards]], after all, and invariably snatches all martial arts championships which she can be bothered to enter.

They've got off surprisingly well together, so Seto [[PairTheSpares decided to marry them off]] for the whole convenience. It helped that this marriage [[TheChessmaster let her sideline]] the [[TheRival powerful Airai empire]], envious of the close relationship the Juraians have with the Choushin. Airi then went to rise off through the ranks of the Galaxy Police to become the Jurai sectoral commander, and is a BFF with the Academy Superintendant Mikami Kuramitsu (not to mention Lady Seto).

* ActionGirlfriend: To Yosho, being the GXP sectoral commander.

They bond so well that Lady Seto commands Yosho to only spend six months of each year at the Academy, to prevent him from losing his edge -- and Airi becomes sad when she realizes how much of a change going back home made to him.
* MumLooksLikeASister: It's acknowledged that due to a combination of Airi only being 19 when Minaho was born and their long lifespans that she's more like an older sister to her own daughter than a mother.
