* EvilCounterpart: Like Stahn and Kyle, Barbatos [[HeroicWannabe wants to be a hero]]. Unlike those two, he's willing to commit all kinds of atrocities and never realizes that there's more to heroism than fame and fortune.

* GoodPowersBadPeople: She's a healer and seems to be a WhiteMagicianGirl. She's really a DarkMessiah for a crazy goddess.

* VillainWithGoodPublicity: As befitting a [[spoiler: DarkMessiah]].

* HeroesWantRedheads: He certainly wants [[FieryRedhead Nanaly]], not that he'll admit it.

** With Philia. She's the only one of the other four Swordian masters to mention Leon by name in the game (Rutee, [[spoiler:his sister, doesn't]]).

He apologizes to her for not telling her her brother was going to die, which even she comments is out of character for him, and explicitly offers her a shoulder to cry on after the fact. He's much less harsh in any insults towards her as well, limiting it to "a true eccentric" rather than "idiot" or "fool" like he usually calls others. Harold, for her part, often calls him "interesting" or "captivating", once even going so far as to call him on her level. Since she's a genius and refers to many other party members as her either her lab rats or stupid, that's saying something.

* MrFanservice: He's a dark, snarky, and handsome Bishounen wearing a catsuit. In-universe he gets more female attention than Loni does, though some [=NPCs=] find his mask unsettling.

* NietzscheWannabe: Just look at his BadassCreed. Being awesome doesn't mean it isn't extremely grim.

* RealMenWearPink: Frilly lavender sleeves. [[spoiler:Hey, if it applied to him 18 years ago despite being a pretty boy...]]

* ShipTease: Possibly with Philia. She's the only one of the other four Swordian masters to mention Leon by name in the game (Rutee, [[spoiler:his sister, doesn't]]).

* OrbitalBombardment: Crazy Comet, her secret hi-ougi. It's the only hi-ougi that has ''three extensions'', including one that shoots ''galaxies'', and the last stage, Mermaid Princess, which both heals the party and deals [[JustForPun astronomical]] amounts of damage.

* ScrewDestiny: [[spoiler:Reverses her CessationOfExistence through ThePowerOfLove]]. Averted in the Drama CDs, in which [[spoiler:she really does die for good.]]

* BonusBoss: Makes an appearance in ''VideoGame/TalesOfGraces''.

* BonusBoss: She's part of the ''VideoGame/TalesOfTheAbyss'' cameo team.

One of the three {{Big Bad}}s of ''VideoGame/TalesOfDestiny 2'' and arguably the most popular of the three, Barbatos is an AxCrazy man who was erased from history for [[FelonyMisdemeanor losing a fight with Dymlos]] ([[OffscreenVillainy and many other acts of villainy]]). And he is BITTER about it. He partnered with Elraine because she promised to restore his place in history. He rampages around time, attacking people, and hating gels and magic. He's easily the series' [[EnsembleDarkhorse most popular villain]], and has appeared as a BonusBoss in both ''VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia'' and the [=PS2=] remake of ''VideoGame/TalesOfDestiny''. He also gets a homage title in ''VideoGame/TalesOfHearts'', which you get by completing an entire playthrough with, well, no items '''ever'''.

* BonusBoss: Outside of ''Tales of Destiny 2''.

* HeroKiller: He's called ''Killer of Heroes'' when he's a BonusBoss in ''VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia''. He was also responsible for [[spoiler:killing Stahn.]]

* {{Leitmotif}}: At his very final fight, the tune [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTQkItRJ2e8 "Coup de grbce" (yes, with the a swapped with the next alphabet)]] plays to show that Barbatos is done toying around. Afterwards, the tune has been associated with Barbatos in nearly all his appearances in crossovers (this music did not return when he became a BonusBoss in ''VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia'')

* BladeOnAStick: His preferred weapon is a halberd.

* CompositeCharacter: In the ''War Between Heaven and Earth'' light novel, where Karell Berselius' character motivation was to resurrect his unnamed dead little sister using Miktran's technology. While the novel is no longer canon, Harold became Karell's twin sister (rather than brother or father, as was previously implied) as a nod to it.

* NightmareFetishist: She's obsessed with both human dissection and human vivisection, and wants to perform vivisections on the rest of the party members. She also finds the idea of killing a goddess worth [[{{Squee}} squeeing]] over and suggests [[UnwillingRoboticization roboticizing Loni]] and removing his brain would make him more appealing to women. [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking And she likes insects]].

* AIBreaker: It's because of most of his infamous attributes, most of the time in order to defeat him in the older games, one frontline party member has to attract his attention by repeatedly triggering him to cast and miss his spells on the said frontline, while everyone else hammers away at him from afar (and possibly without resorting to any items); this overall makes his boss battles require a lot of tactical AI manipulation.

** In the original game, this also applies to using ''healing spells''. Don't cast healing spells in front of Barbatos.

* HeroKiller: He's called ''Killer of Heroes'' when he's a BonusBoss in ''VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia''

* TheResenter: It's implied the reason why he betrayed the Erthers for the Aetherians was because he was jealous of Dymlos for his heroism and for having the affections of Atwight.

* WildCard: In [[VideoGame/TalesOfTheRays Rays]], he technically on the good guy side but his violent nature made him almost make him considered a villain, with Mark and other members often have to convince him out in various way when they feels like Barbatos starts to going too far. On the bright side, as he is exoflected from the time before The Aether War, this made him only hate on Dymlos (and later Mercuria for using his body) and considered other people a fair game (as long as they don't pissed him) he also has his own follower whose calling him a hero which at least put him on a good mood.

* WhiteMagicianGirl: Subverted. Elraine cultivates this image, but she is not this.

* LoveYouAndEverybody: Kyle mutters how he loves Reala and never wants to leave her in his sleep... Followed by the same being said about Loni, and Judas, and ending with him blurting out that he wants them all to travel together forever.

* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: As the strongest fighter, she's the reigning arena champion.

* TheChick: The ShrinkingViolet pink-wearing healer whose quest to find a hero kickstarts the whole plot.

* AlwaysSaveTheGirl: Subverted. Kyle comes close to picking [[spoiler: saving Reala]] over saving the world, but she gets angry and gives him an ArmorPiercingSlap, snapping him out of it.

* ArmorPiercingSlap: Delivered to Kyle when he says he doesn't want to save the world [[spoiler: if it will kill her.]]

* ArmorPiercingSlap: Loni is frequently the victim of bone crushers from her.
