** Of all people, she's most similar to Eleanor, who has her same interests in cooking and cleaning, her same motherly nature, her same UnstoppableRage when confronted by the target of her revenge, her same liking of children, her same motivation being borne of a murdered relative, and her same guilt at accidentally [[spoiler:killing loving family members when they opposed her]], among other such traits. They were even both fans and supporters of Artorius and his ideals, of which they grew disillusioned with as reality hit them square in the face about who he really became.

* EnergyBall: She forms a ball at her left hand and smashes it towards rising lava, [[spoiler: awakening the four elemental Empyreans and freeing all the malakhim in the world]].

She once remarked how she'd marry Niko if she were a guy; Niko said the same to her. In [[spoiler: Melchior's illusions in Aball]], it's revealed her version of an ideal life has (a very affectionate) Niko refusing to marry anyone or even leave the village until Velvet returns, and that's with Velvet in full awareness of Niko having a crush on a young male vet who works out of town.

* BoobsOfSteel: The one with the most noticeable bust size and the one who can do the most heavy lifting.

* LightFeminineDarkFeminine: The dark to Eleanor's light.

* ContraltoOfDanger: Her voice noticeably deepens and becomes more gravelly after her transformation. During the HotSpringsEpisode, where a FreakyFridayFlip places Laphicet in her body, her voice lightens up a lot more to make it sound similar to his own. [[spoiler:A far more sad double subversion happens when she lets herself be tricked by the illusionary Aball, her voice turning back to her former, light tone until she lets herself admit that it's all a lie and she goes back to being gravelly.]]

* AmbiguouslyBi: A rare case where both sides are roughly the same level of ambiguous.

* GagBoobs: There isn't much breast-related humor in the game, but what's there comes at Velvet's expense, and about the only time she cares about her outfit is when someone mentions her boobs.

* BareYourMidriff: Her outfit leaves an opening on her stomach. Her "Tales Of Series" costume DLC gives her [[VideoGame/TalesOfDestiny Rutee Katrea's]] original outfit, which also exposes her stomach.

* NotWhatItLooksLike: Late-game, there's a skit in which Velvet has locked herself in a room, refusing to let anyone in, and can be heard with heavy breathing behind the door. The skit implies that she's having ADateWithRosiePalms, but she's actually just cleaning the room and didn't want anyone to interrupt.

** SuperOCD: ...But when she gets going, she starts nagging others how wasteful they are in comparison. Eizen comments she went from good mom to ObnoxiousInLaws material.

* TheAtoner: It becomes increasingly clear that Velvet is wracked with pretty intense guilt and remorse over her actions, to the point of self loathing, and she struggles to reconcile her need for revenge with her loyalty to the party and her allies. She even says privately to Eleanor that part of her wants to give hope to the world. At the very end, once she finally gets her revenge, Velvet [[spoiler:undergoes a DeepSleep to seal Innominat away and]] allows the party to "help the world I ruined," imploring Laphicet to "help people like me. Help the weak." Daemon or not, her conscience never left her even to the very end.

* BadassAdorable: She is a beautiful woman who is both an badass and dorky mixed together.

* NinetiesAntiHero: Broods a lot about what had happened to her brother, can be sarcastic on the occasion, and is willing to dirty her hands just to get to Artorius.

Both are [[AntiHero Anti Heroes]], suffered a DarkAndTroubledPast, got an arm cut off by their ArchEnemy who also happened to be an [[JerkAss asshole]], got a [[RedRightHand powerful replacement]], and [[spoiler: became a deity in order to save the world.]] She also has traits of [[Manga/{{Berserk}} Guts]].
** She's also similar to [[Anime/CrossAnge Ange]] as they're both betrayed by their brother, forced to watch a precious family member die, is sent to prison, is forced to fight monsters and [[TookALevelInCynicism gaining a darker outlook on life]].
** WordOfGod puts her also as an expy to [[VideoGame/TalesOfXillia Milla]]. Something which even gets [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] when the two meet during the sidequest with the Xillia cameo bosses.

** A person motivated by the death of a loved one, who has no trouble doing evil to defeat the greater evil, and casually accepts being a HeroWithBadPublicity to reach her goals? Not to mention underneath the uncaring exterior, genuinely is a [[NiceGuy Nice Girl]] who is motivated by love and ultimately [[spoiler: is willing to sacrifice her life to save the world, with her going down as a monster despite that being far from true?]] Sounds a lot like [[Anime/CodeGeass Lelouch vi Britannia]]. On the more humorous side, she's a NeatFreak just like him.
** Another Expy that is from the ''VideoGame/TalesSeries'' is [[VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia Yuri Lowell]]. Both are more than willing to spill blood for their goals, have a friendship with [[{{Foil}} someone who should have been on the opposite side]] (Eleanor for Velvet, Flynn for Yuri), have JadeColoredGlasses for the world at large, and are FriendToAllChildren. In a unique twist, she is trained by the same person who uses his Mystic Arte Savage Wolf Fury, [[BigBad Art]][[FallenHero ori]][[TragicVillain us]]. There are notable differences as well (e.g. Yuri is a [[VigilanteMan Vigilante]] SmallStepsHero who sheds blood [[PayEvilUntoEvil for justice]], Velvet is TheUnfettered BrokenBird who sheds blood [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge for]] [[ThePowerOfHate vengence]]) it is considered that Yuri [[NotSoDifferentRemark could end up like her]] if he crossed the DespairEventHorizon. At his DarkestHour, Yuri's attitude [[TookALevelInJerkass is similar to]] post-imprisonment Velvet.
** Her character arc shares quite a few similarities to [[VideoGame/TalesOfXillia2 Julius Kresnik]], specifically his backstory with Ludger. Both take in young children with the intent of exploiting their powers, and are initially [[DefrostingIceQueen very aloof and cold before being defrosted by the genuine affection of their charges]], developing a fierce protectiveness and loyalty towards the child that results in them [[spoiler:willingly sacrificing themselves to make the world a better place, after which they arrive at idealized dream worlds where they're living happily with their younger sibling and everyone they met along the way are all alive and well.]]

* BandageBabe: Wraps her left arm with a lot of bandages. Even after unleashing her demonic arm, the bandages always come back.

* RapunzelHair: Both before and after her transformation. Originally it went to her mid-thigh and was neatly braided. Three years later as a Therion, it's in a very loose, unkempt braid that reaches her ankles.

* GlassCannon: Velvet's array of damage is insane, capable of very strong combos and damage with not much difficulty. However, she has the lowest Artes Defense growth of the party, making her vulnerable to Hidden and Malak artes. Her RedRightHand enforces this by allowing huge amounts of damage but at the cost of her losing HP every second, draining faster the higher her damage output is. While she can't be [=KOed=] while her demon arm is out since she can't fall below 1 HP, it'll leave her very vulnerable as soon as her combo ends.

* WeakButSkilled: Downplayed. She's far from weak, but she's not a FinalBoss level fighter that one would expect from a Lord of Calamity. [[spoiler:Despite that, she defeats the much stronger Shepherd of her era by staying determined, gathering allies, and learning how to counter his plans.]]

* WhoWearsShortShorts: She does as a Therion, and tattered ones at that.
