* GameBreaker: The only character, of the entire Super Smash Bros. series, to ever be banned in the [[http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=301032 Unity Ruleset.]]

* DarkIsNotEvil: The whole 'dark knight' vibe he gives off. Also his final smash is called Galaxia Darkness, which turns the screen dark, and he promptly slices the opponent.

* LightningBruiser: He's so absurdly fast as an attacker and his attacks are incredibly safe from most approaches and damaging that his lightness is a non-issue. And in the rare occurence that he does get hit, he can just cancel his momentum by gliding.

* {{Skill Gate Character|s}}: Again very debatable, but seeing as Pit is high up on Japan's tier list, Meta Knight is certainly a metagame candidate who has a lack of projectiles, a precision-dependent moveset, and a God-awful shield just for icing on the cake. His oft referred "unbeatable" edge game can also be countered by anyone with a fast spike if they player can power shield well.
** DifficultButAwesome: Of course, he's been at the top of the tiers ever since they were started because those same precision-dependent moves rack up massive damage and KO at rather low percents.

* WhiteGloves

* {{Badass}}: Let's face it. His appearance[[hottip:*:Living in a lake instead of the ozone layer]] may make no sense and he loses horribly[[hottip:*:To [[VideoGame/StarFox a fox]] and [[DonkeyKong a chimp]] with EdibleAmmunition]], but he still manages to look cool.

* EverythingsBetterWithSpinning: When Rayquaza uses Iron Tail, he spins his whole body like a top.

* GlowingEyesOfDoom: When he uses Focus Blast, his eyes flash and glow for a moment.

* MisplacedWildlife: Appears out of a lake like he's some sort of sea monster. He's supposed to live in the earth's ozone layer.
* NoBiologicalSex: Technically, like most legendary Pokemon it's genderless.

* OneHitKill: Subverted. It looks like he went down in one hit but as soon as the cutsence ends, a BossBattle starts.
* OutOfCharacter: Appears out of a [[MisplacedWildlife lake,]] uses a move[[hottip:*:Dig]] he can't learn (even by TM or HM), and doesn't put up much of a fight.

* StoneWall: While he has low HP, he resists every non-ice attack.
* TheWorfEffect: One of the most powerful legendary (read: god) Pokemon, he supposedly has lived for millions of years and is in [[CharacterTiers such a high tier]] in his original game that he can't be used in the standard metagame. He gets beaten by a [[VideoGame/StarFox anthropomorphic fox]] and ''a [[DonkeyKong monkey]] with a peanut gun.''
* TimeAbyss: He's millions of years old.

* LimitBreak: Super Sonic.

* NoGender: Technically, like most legendary Pokemon it's genderless.

* MightyGlacier: He's really slow and very heavy, but his effective mindgames and powerful explosives put him just below Diddy Kong on the tier list.

* WallOfWeapons: Grenades, mortars, Nikita missiles, rocket launchers, and [[JokeItem a box]], and whichever end you're on, [[LethalJokeCharacter you'll want to learn how to deal with them as a whole]]. No conventinal firearms, though.

* TheUnexpected: Probably a subversion, as opposed to Snake. Snake getting ''into'' the game in the first place made Sonic's arrival (which was clamored for with great fervor by fans) more predictable.

The only character in the entire series to get a ban under a tournament ruleset.

* ActorAllusion / ShownTheirWork / TakeThat: See Sonic.

* ShownTheirWork: Snake's dislike of Sonic may simply stem from the fact in the wild, hedgehogs are immune to snake venom and are a snake's natural predator. Or it could be because Snake's Japanese voice actor is the son of one of the voice actors of Doctor Eggman, the BigBad of the Sonic series.
** Or because Metal Gear's first game was licensed back when Nintendo and Sega were arch enemies by the former. Snake never likes anyone working with him especially former enemies from previous companies.

* AlternateCostume: Probably the truest example of the SSB fighters so far.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Was considered instead of the Ice Climbers to show up in ''Melee''.
** Before that he was supposed to be in the original, until he was replaced with Jigglypuff.
