* {{Foil}}: To Maarva Andor. Both are the elderly single mothers of two of the main characters of ''Andor'', and that's where their similarities end. Maarva is tough and not Cassian's biological mother, but very clearly loves him as if he were her biological son and is only frustrated whenever [[AngerBornOfWorry Cassian recklessly puts himself in danger]]. Eedy meanwhile, is the biological mother of Syril, but constantly brings him down and makes him feel miserable and inadequate about himself for not living up to her expectations. Maarva is shown to be a steadfast Rebel sympathizer, while Eedy lives an idle life and mindlessly believes Imperial propaganda about the Rebellion. Eedy seemingly has no social life and yells at her neighbor for potentially starting at her and Syril, while Maarva is cared for by Bix and Timm in Cassian's absence [[spoiler:as her health begins dwindling, showing her to be an appreciated member of Ferrix's community.]]

Elan Sel'Sabagno, also known as Elan Sleazebaggano, was a drug
dealer who is secretly coordinating with various rebel cells alongside Mon Mothma.from the lower levels of Coruscant. He met Obi-Wan in a bar and made the mistake of offering his product.

* AntiHero: He's a rebel and his desire to bring down the Empire and restore freedom to the galaxy is genuine… but he's also not even remotely afraid of dirtying his hands to get the job done.
* BadBoss: While he seems a ReasonableAuthorityFigure to the Rebels and hired guns under his command, and is one to an extent, he also ultimately sees them as expendable in the bigger scheme of things and has no compunctions about [[spoiler:ordering their deaths if he deems them a liability.]]
* ControlFreak: He's aware he can't control everything, but he wants to control what he can, to the point of taking out even the most slightly loose of ends and controlling every situation he's in.
* CowboyCop: Or rather, Cowboy Rebel. His superiors like Mon Mothma don't take too well to Luthen's ruthlessly pragmatic approach to fighting the Empire, and he himself sees no reason to abide by rules and morals if the Empire won't.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Between his dour and controlling personality plus his amoral and pragmatic approach to fighting the Empire, Luthen is not well-liked by his fellow Rebel Alliance members. Unfortunately for them, he is also indispensable to the early Alliance because while he's ruthless, he's also an incredibly efficient spymaster who gets shit done.
* TheHeart: Ironically. When Luthen isn't busy being a cold-blooded KnightTemplar spymaster, he's spending his time trying to get the various Rebel factions and cells to play nice and actually cooperate with one another, reminding them that [[WeAreStrugglingTogether whether they like each other or not, they ARE in this mess together]].
* {{Herald}}: Of Andor. He's the one who takes Cassian from Ferrix in the first story arc and introduces him to the world of the Rebellion, which [[ForegoneConclusion the audience knows he'll become a true believer in]].
* HiddenDepths: As he confides with [[spoiler:Saw]] during an exceedingly rare moment of vulnerability, he is genuinely scared a lot of the time that the Empire is simply becoming too big to fight practically, which is implied to be the big motivator for his ruthlessness.
* ManipulativeBastard: Manages to sway Cassian into joining his Rebellion group by preying on his insecurities and hatred for the Galactic Empire, and then deploys him to Aldhani to take part in the raid there. He then orders Cassian killed when he deserts the group, believing that HeKnowsTooMuch to be left alive.
* MirrorCharacter: To Saw Gerrera. Both of them are WellIntentionedExtremist leaders of Rebellion groups, and are more than willing to commit horrific actions for the sake of advancing their own goals. However, while Luthen is the secretive and pragmatic coordinator of the early Rebellion who uses espionage, manipulative tactics and subterfuge to get what he wants, Saw Gerrera is the infamous leader of the Partisans, who make themselves very publicly known. Luthen also operates behind-the-scenes and keeps his public life separate from his activities as a spymaster, while Saw Gerrera is the face of the Partisans and actively partakes in missions with the rest of the Partisans. Luthen's motivations for rebelling against the Empire have to do with what they've already done to the galaxy, while Saw Gerrera is fighting against them because he knows that they're going to get worse. And finally, Luthen is willing to use Chessmaster-like strategies to make things worse for the citizens of the Empire to encourage them to become angrier and rise up, while Saw simply attacks them head-on using guerrilla tactics.
* NonIdleRich: He's incredibly wealthy, introduced as having an excessive amount of money he can throw around and his public persona is an antiquities dealer for the richest in the galaxy. He's also more than comfortable getting his hands dirty, putting himself in risk, and even personally undertakes some more mundane spy tactics like listening to updates and performing clandestine communications when you would think someone of his stature would be above that, though his paranoia and ControlFreak nature may have something to do with that.
* PragmaticHero: The most charitable way of describing him; he's fighting the Empire and won't hesitate to resort to dishonorable and morally questionable methods in the name of the greater good. The ''least'' charitable way to view him is as a full-blown SociopathicHero who operates on cold, inhuman calculus and doesn't care how many corpses it takes to win the war.
* ProperlyParanoid: Paranoid to the extreme, but he has good reason to be, considering the nature of his work.
* ShootTheDog: [[spoiler:He arranges the Aldhani heist for the purpose of ''deliberately'' provoking the Empire into cracking down hard and committing atrocities and repression against the people of the galaxy. * TeethClenchedTeamwork: Nobody particularly seems to like working with Luthen, as he clashes with the rebels under his command, Mon Mothma, [[spoiler:and even other extremists like Saw Gerrera.]]
* TheUnfettered: Nothing is off-limits to him in his fight against the Empire, but his borderline sociopathic methods of fighting the Empire are balanced out by the fact that almost ''everything'' he does is genuinely motivated to restoring freedom to the galaxy and has legitimate reasoning as to how it will help do so. A rare antiquities dealer who is secretly coordinating with various rebel cells alongside Mon Mothma.

* {{Herald}}: Of Andor. He's the one who takes Cassian from Ferrix in the first story arc and introduces him to the world of the Rebellion, which [[ForegoneConclusion the audience knows he'll become a true believer in]].
* StepfordSmiler: To the Coruscanti public Luthen is an affable and friendly antique shop owner. In private it's made very clear that this is a mask; the real Luthen is quite serious.

Up To Eleven is now defunct.

* LayeredMetropolis: Coruscant is UpToEleven and beyond example, which makes it [[AppliedMathematics 121 or higher.]] No, really, it deserves that. The planet is covered in skyscrapers, which are also covered in skyscrapers, which are covered in more skyscrapers, which goes on for long enough that the skyscrapers dwarf the natural features of the planet. And some of the skyscrapers that were built on are actually construction droids for building more skyscrapers. The city has 5127 levels—not floors, mind you, ''levels'' upon which structures are built, with many skyscrapers' upper floors exceeding 20,000 feet altitude. Fluff material describes Coruscant's high-rises as requiring complex environmental regulation systems to compensate for the differential heating between the lobby and the penthouse. Those skyscrapers are for the high-society types, of course. The lower you go, the poorer (and darker) it gets, with the very lowest levels being considered uninhabitable (and occupied by some very nasty predatory critters).

* CanonImmigrant: The name "Coruscant" originated from ''Literature/TheThrawnTrilogy'' before it was decanonized into the ''Legends'' segment (the name stuck, however, due to being used in the Prequel Trilogy). It was still used as the former name of the Imperial capital, but [[EarlyInstallmentWeirdness the planet was described as having hills, isolated towers, greenery and mountain ranges]] instead of being the CityPlanet it is now.

* DemotedToExtra: It's much less significant in the New Republic era than it was in ''Legends'' since its no longer the Galactic galactic capital. By the time of the First Order, Coruscant remained in the background of major events and had fallen into the hands of criminals.

* TempleOfDoom: The Jedi Temple was built over a Sith Temple. In ''The Clone Wars'' (in an unreleased episode arc), Yoda, Ahsoka, Anakin, and Obi-Wan have to travel there to investigate something... and it turns out some monsters live in there. WordOfGod implies that [[TheBusCameBack the Zillo Beast]] would have returned to fight those monsters.

* HeroicFatigue: His entries in the ''Smuggler's Guide'' make it clear that his age, the rise of the Empire, and the horrors the syndicates inflict upon their victims in the Outer Rim have gotten to him, and he briefly despairs about how little he can do as one person. Despite this, Dexter manages shake off his doubts, rescue an enslaved worker from Crimson Dawn, and send recorded evidence of the syndicate's crimes on Athus Klee to a trustworthy fried in the senate in the hopes that something could be done. The fact that a note written by Han mentions this story sounding familiar suggests that Dexter's efforts worked in at least bringing some attention to Crimson Dawn's activity there.
