Dr. Eggman's robotic assistants. Docoe is the tall gold one, and Bocoe is the short silver one. Though they originally start out as background characters, they eventually get more direct screentime, lines, and developed personalities. Unlike many incarnations of Eggman's minions, these two don't usually confront Sonic and Co. directly, but rather personally assist Dr. Eggman, usually in whatever base / flying fortress he's currently operating.

* BewareTheSillyOnes: Unlike Dr. Eggman's lackies in previous animated shows, who were typically a BumblingHenchmenDuo, Docoe and Bocoe are generally competent and able to follow out their creator's orders, and show more insight than the Doctor quite a few times. For instance, they are put in charge of defending Eggman's island base when G.U.N. decides to attack it, and put up quite a fight against the navy and the air force. They are only sent packing when Dr. Eggman confronts and fails to stop a special strike force.

Knuckles was tricked in Advanced 2, and in Battle. Not to mention you're putting Riders and Rivals as examples, two games that came AFTER X finished. This entry is written with misinformation. Amy was actually quite temperamental in Sonic Battle, meaning Amy's characterization is a side effect of her Flanderization in the games.

* AdaptationalDumbass: While Knuckles was always SuperGullible in the games, he still eventually caught on to Eggman's tricks, and by the time of the ''Riders'' and ''Rivals'' games, refused to believe anything he said or be tricked anymore. The BigBad collective true antagonists of Sonic X, their most active in Season 2, 3. A mechanical empire from another world, they are lead by Dark Oak leads the Metarex to obtain the universe's planet eggs, hidden within the cores of every planet in existence. They were responsible for destroying Cosmo's world, [[spoiler:actually being the last male members of her species who strived to gain power but corrupted themselves in the process]].
----------
!!!Tropes associated with the Metarex:

* AlwaysChaoticEvil: All the Metarex shown are antagonists, loyal to their collective cause.
* AntagonistTitle: Season 3 is otherwise known as the Metarex Saga.
* ArcVillain: They are the collective BigBadDuumvirate of Season 3.
* BishonenLine: The Metarex come in a wide variety of different shapes and sizes, but those with higher positions of authority are a bit more humanoid and uniform than the rest, though at the same time are more decorated and visibly different from one another, as seen with their commanders.
* ColorCodedForYourConvenience: The Metarex commanders are colored and named appropriately.
* CyberCyclops: The key physical trait of every unique Metarex member are their singular large eye.
** EyesDoNotBelongThere: The commanders have identical looking orbs on different parts of their bodies. Pale Bay Leaf is the unique standout for both tropes, having two eyes in conventional spots but also a third eye along with it and three ''more'' running down his torso, though Red Pine and Yellow Zelkova might also be subverted or at least downplayed cases of the former trope.
* DrunkWithPower: As the above states, [[spoiler: they destroyed Cosmo's world after trying to gain power, which they got and it didn't end well.]]
* EatingMachine: A few Metarex with mouths are shown actually putting their jaws to work. In Hedgehog Hunt they serve actual food and drink, though Yellow Zelkova is the only one who explicitly chows down on anything (Pale Bay Leaf is standing next to a table of food too though it's anyone guess how he eats). [[spoiler:It's justified in Yellow Zelkova's case, as he's not actually a machine.]]
* EndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt: The Metarex extract the planet eggs from planets and leave the worlds to slowly die. Planet Cascade is a shown example of this, courtesy of Pale Bay Leaf.
* EvilIsBigger: Unique members are ''huge,'' with the humanoid commanders themselves already towering over the entire rest of the cast.
* EyeMotifs: The hallmark trait of every Metarex member are their "eyes": a singular glass orb that is in most cases near pitch black and only reflects a bit of color unique to the subject. It dominates a large portion of their faces (and in some instances is their only facial feature), and the commanders [[EyesDoNotBelongThere even have additional identical looking orbs on different parts of their bodies]]; Dark Oak has one on his chest, Red Pine has two on his forehead and chest, Black Narcissus has two in his shoulders, Yellow Zelkova has two on his forehead and his "belt", and Pale Bay Leaf has ''five'' on his face running down his torso.
* FiveManBand: The Metarex commanders are these.
** BigBad: Dark Oak.
** CoDragons: Black Narcissus & Pale Bay Leaf, though both serve their own unique roles too.
** EvilGenius: Pale Bay Leaf.
** TheBrute: Yellow Zelkova.
** DarkChick: Red Pine, though Black Narcissus fills in for this more properly.
** SixthRanger: Dr. Eggman.
** [[spoiler:SixthRangerTraitor: Cosmo and Dr. Eggman.]]
* GaiasVengeance: [[spoiler:Their true goal is to wipe out all non-plant life in the cosmos, Dark Oak's former goal as Lucas dialed UpToEleven.]]
* GalacticConquerer: Their goal is galactic conquest, with several planets having already fallen to them before.
* {{Gendercide}}: [[spoiler:They were on the receiving end of this, every male Seedrian having been wiped out by Earthia and the other females of the species. However, Lucas and four others survived, going on to become the Metarex commanders and doing this ''back'' to the female Seedrians, this time with only Cosmo as the survivor. With Final Mova's destruction, all the males of their generation are completely gone, followed by the following generation's with Cosmo's death, though her sacrifice likely means this has been undone for the species.]]
* KillEmAll: [[spoiler:All of them are killed off by the end of Season 3, as is Cosmo, the only survivor of when they did this to their own species.]]
* KnightOfCerebus: Season 3, amongst the darkest of stories in the Sonic series, is heralded by these guys as the representatives of it, and it stays that way until the very end.
* MadeOfIron: The unique Metarex moreso, but this especially applies for the commanders, where even their frailest, Black Narcissus, can still take a LOT of punishment. [[spoiler:This even applies to them ''without'' their armor, being the only survivors of a ploy that took out every other male of their species.]]
* MechaMooks: They're all mechanical, but the actual Metarex Troopers are the most straight example of this.
** UndergroundMonkey: Gold & Silver, two stronger Metarex Troopers painted as such and designed by Black Narcissus to test Sonic.
* MotherNatureFatherScience: Their contrast between Cosmo's species (or what little there is of it) is fairly prominent; the feminine Seedrians are tender and gentle PlantPeople while the masculine Metarex are mechanical, oppressive SpacePirates.
* NoMouth: It's 50/50 whether a Metarex unit has a visible, conventional jaw or not, which applies for the commanders as well; Dark Oak and Red Pine have no semblances of one, Black Narcissus and Pale Bay Leaf have vague semblances of mouths, and Yellow Zelkova has a large, blocky mouth guard with grills, him being the only one of the five to be shown actually eating anything.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: Compared to the cartoony Mobians and Eggman or the fairly grounded humans and machines (if not at least sometimes elaborate), the Metarex all look like they came from an entirely different anime with their detailed and uniform designs, particularly the commanders. [[TropesAreTools It does work to good effect]], given they are the antagonistic alien force of [[DarkerAndEdgier Season 3]], thusly allowing them to stand out strikingly with how jarringly threatening looking they can be.
* OffModel: A particularly egregious example; though Sonic X isn't particularly known for stellar animation, the Metarex commanders usually have a few parts of their bodies colored incorrectly between scenes, sometimes missing a few of their less noticeable physical traits.
* OneGenderRace: Though they're machines, they have obviously masculine voices and the commanders are referred to with male pronouns. [[spoiler:It's played with in a roundabout way, as the Metarex commanders are male Seedrians, the only survivors out of hundreds that survived a cataclysmic explosion that struck them during their war against an unknown opponent years ago. After they fought back, Cosmo would be left as the last living female of her species.]]
* ThemeNaming: Twofold for the commanders.
** ColorfulThemeNaming: Their names start with the color their bodies are primarily painted, even with the less obvious examples: [[PurpleIsTheNewBlack Dark-]], [[RedIsViolent Red-]], [[BrightIsNotGood Yellow]], [[DarkIsEvil Black-]] and [[GreenAndMean Pale-]].
** FloralThemeNaming: Oddly for their mechanical visages, the second halves of their names are various plantlife: -Oak, -Pine, -Zelkova, -Narcissus and -Bay Leaf. [[spoiler:This turns out to be a big hint at their true identities.]]
* UnroboticReveal: [[spoiler:A big twist is that Cosmo is ''not really'' [[ThereIsAnother the last of her species]], but rather the last ''female'' of her species; the Metarex commanders are revealed to be the last male Seedrians, though only Dark Oak & Yellow Zelkova's true forms are shown off and only the former's original name is revealed (Lucas).]]
* VoiceOfTheLegion: All Metarex members that talk have noticeable robotic filters over their voices.
** PowerEchoes: In the sub, in place of the filter the Metarex have a very apparent reverb to their voices.

The very obvious muscle of the Metarex commanders, Yellow Zelkova is a classical BoisterousBruiser to his core, a chummy fellow when not seeking the next enemy to pulverize with his fists.

to:

* CyberCyclops: His eye is more wide and visor-like. That said, he has a more traditional one on his forehead, which may make this a subverted case.
* DavidVsGoliath: His dynamic with Knuckles is akin to this, especially given Yellow Zelkova's massive stature at 12'2.

The first of the Metarex commanders introduced outside of Dark Oak, Red Pine has the dubious honor of the shortest screentime of the lot, only physically appearing in his debut episode.

!!!Tropes associated with Red Pine:

* BattleshipRaid: His fleet and battleship make up much of the direct conflict of "A Metarex Melée" besides the ongoing fight with Dark Oak. It's downplayed however as his squadron isn't ever really fought directly but rather the compromised Metarex base where Sonic and Dark Oak were fighting is the main event.

* CyberCyclops: Evokes this the best among his peers, besides Dark Oak himself.
* EvilIsHammy: He would have probably been just as hammy as Yellow Zelkova if he survived past his first appearance.

to:

* CruelAndUnusualDeath: For the MauveShirt of the bunch, he has the rather brutal fate of having his ship slowly pulled into a gravitational force before it explodes while he's onboard, with no hope of escape.
* CyberCyclops: Evokes this the best among his peers, besides Dark Oak himself.
himself. That said, he has a second orb in a socket on his forehead, possibly subverting this like Yellow Zelkova.
* EvilIsHammy: He would have probably been just as hammy as Yellow Zelkova if he survived past his first appearance. This applies for both sub and dub.
* EvilSoundsDeep: In both versions, moreso in the dub but he sounds especially ''booming'' in the sub.
** EvilSoundsRaspy: It's very evident with his dub voice where he sounds cartoonishly evil.

* GutturalGrowler: He sounds like this in the dub.
* HornedHumanoid: Four horns in his case, angular like Yellow Zelkova's but not nearly as massive.

* UnroboticReveal: In "The Lost Planet / Eye Spy", just like his fellow Metarex commanders, he is [[spoiler:the same species as Cosmo]].

* StarterVillain: The first of the Metarex commanders to be fought and subsequently destroyed, his existence primarily a reveal for the fact that there are a few more of them than expected.
* TheUnfought: He never got a chance to fight the heroes directly, being introduced on his battleship which would also be where he would die without ever moving from.
* UnroboticReveal: In [[spoiler:In "The Lost Planet / Eye Spy", just like his fellow Metarex commanders, he is [[spoiler:the the same species as Cosmo]].

Arguably the most infamous of the Metarex commanders besides Dark Oak, Black Narcissus is a a cruel manipulator of the highest caliber, even to those powerless against him.

!!!Tropes associated with Black Narcissus:

* CyberCyclops: His signature Metarex eye spans almost the entirety of his head and is ovular in shape.
* DarkChick: Disregarding his gender, he plays the symptoms of the trope very well, a skilled and deceptive manipulator whom also happens to primarily be a non-combatant.

* DeadpanSnarker: He has his moments. One standout is when Chris throws down a [[BlindedByTheLight flash bomb]] and runs off with Cosmo. Black Narcissus hasn't moved an ''inch'' from his chair as he dryly quips,
-->..Eugh. This is the most dismal escape attempt that I've ever seen. I'll give them a head start to try and add some excitement.

* HornedHumanoid: More like antennae compared to the horns of his fellow commanders.

* LeanAndMean: The second tallest of the Metarex commanders at 10'9 and rather thinly built compared to, say, Red Pine or Yellow Zelkova.

* MusclesAreMeaningful: An inverse example compared to Yellow Zelkova; he's quite lithe and is shown to be surprisingly inept in combat.

* {{Revenge}}: A subtle but key trait with Black Narcissus is how he holds grudges. He declared he would avenge Red Pine more boldly than even Yellow Zelkova and was all for getting at Chris and Cosmo as payback to Sonic, one of Red Pine's murderers. After being humiliated by Eggman's goons in combat, he declares to his face that he'll never be forgiven even while he's on the Metarex' side for the time being.
* {{Sadist}}: It's clear he enjoys torturing the victims of his schemes.
* SimpleStaff: His weapon is a large staff with a mirror at the end of it.
* SlouchOfVillainy: He's lounging in his chair while awaiting for Cosmo to fall for his ploy.
* SoftSpokenSadist: In the sub, he has a very gentle and quiet voice.

Added DiffLines:

* SkilledButNaive: While an exceptionally skilled fighter, a cunning TrapMaster on his home turf, and possessing ancient knowledge not known to many, Knuckles also lacks social tact and is SuperGullible to the point of repeatedly falling for Eggman's BlatantLies and [[FalselyReformedVillain claims of changing his ways]]; while he grew up believing in honesty and the inherit goodness of people, he can't seem to comprehend that with Eggman, [[GoodCannotComprehendEvil there's just no "good" to see]].

Added DiffLines:

* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: In general, whenever Eggman shows a softer side or does a "good" deed, it's nothing more than a cover-up for his own selfish purposes or {{Evil Plan}}s. Best shown in the Egg Moon saga, where he rebuilds the destroyed half of the moon with robotics, and when it seemingly malfunctions and causes a permanent solar eclipse, he produces Sunshine Balls to solve the problem of a world without sunlight, winning public support and convincing everyone [[OnlySaneMan but Sonic]] he's changed for the better. As it turns out, there was no malfunction; Eggman himself was controlling the Egg Moon to keep blocking the sun so he could sell the Sunshine Balls, which doubled as {{Hypno Trinket}}s, as a GetRichQuickScheme and to brainwash the people of Earth into loving him.

* FalselyReformedVillain: During the Egg Moon saga, he claims to have changed his ways, winning good faith and [[VillainWithGoodPublicity publicity]] by rebuilding the moon, and then solving the problem of a seeming "malfunction" that caused a solar eclipse by making artificial Sunshine Balls; in reality, Eggman was deliberately controlling the Egg Moon to keep orbiting with the Earth in order to maintain the solar eclipse, and the Sunshine Balls were both a GetRichQuickScheme and a way to brainwash people into accepting him as their leader. His act is so convincing that even Decoe and Bocoe genuinely believe Eggman has actually reformed.
