* TranslatorMicrobes: Due to some adventures in space and acquiring a translator device, Sonic is able to understand all languages. Even his dog's.

* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Along wth ''[=SatAm=]'', this was one of the first iterations of the franchise to emphasize Sonic's love of chili dogs.

** The worst of it occurs when Sally is roboticized after she prevented the world from suffering the same fate, Ixis Naugus takes over as the new king of New Mobotropolis, Antoine is critically injured, and Bunnie runs away, not to mention putting up with Silver's search for an alledged traitor in the team. He was certainly down as a result but, rather than give up, he and his remaining friends come up with a way to reform the Freedom Fighters.

* DistressedDamsel: Like Amy, she is still a pivotal hero, but also one of the villains' favorite hostage choices.

* DeadpanSnarker: Tends to deliever some sass to the team. Mellows out thanks to CharacterDevelopment.

** TheLeader[=/=]RebelliousPrincess: Sally, the original founder and the one who directs the other members on their tasks.
** TheLancer[=/=]TheAce[=/=]TheHero: Sonic. He's still the main character of the series, but prefers to be out on the field in the thick of the battle and also get under Sally's skin occasionally with his attitude. He's also the team's best warrior.
** TheSmartGuy[=/=]ChildProdigy: Tails. Originally was just the TagalongKid with no combat prowess, but grew into a capable asset of the team. He's also Sonic's KidSidekick whenever they're on a mission together.
** TheChick[=/=]{{Tsundere}}: Amy. She's very eager to hit things with her hammer, but she's also compassionate and always tries to understand someone if they need help.
** GeniusBruiser: Rotor. Secondary for TheSmartGuy along with Tails, but is much more physically capable after the Reboot. And his tech skills are generally in weaponry.
** BadassNormal: Antoine. No special superpowers or physical enhancements, he's just a really good swordsman.
** {{Cyborg}}[=/=]TheBigGirl: Bunnie. Probably the strongest of the team thanks to her enhancements.
** MissionControl: Nicole. Being a program, she can communicate and direct the crew from time to time, but mostly stays inside Sally's handheld.
** GentleGiant[=/=]SixthRanger: Big. A very recent addition after helping Sonic & Tails, and one of most docile members.

* OnceDoneNeverForgotten: In issue 134, after Sonic declines helping her run the kingdom in favor of continuing the fight with Eggman, Sally responds by giving him an ArmorPiercingSlap, lambasting him for being selfish, and essentially dumping him right in front of ''everybody in Knothole''. Several call-backs to this moment are made, with it being made clear Sally regrets being so harsh; she even turns down a chance to start a romance with Monkey Khan for this reason, acknowledging she reacted badly and was unfair to Sonic.

* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Thankfully. He went from annoying tag a long kid who disliked being in Sonics shadow. And did stupid things to get out of nearly being robotocized for his efforts. To the two tailed fox we all know and love.

* PinocchioSyndrome: This is why she created her nanomachine/holographic form -- she wanted to interact with the Freedom Fighters more directly. Though it's a subversion as she acknowledges that she's already a fully sentient being who can think, reason, and understand basic emotions, she just wanted to experience and interact with the real world. Post-reboot, she seemed to have achieved this.

* MyNaymeIs: Her name is spelled two ways -- all-caps and normally. This is used to differentiate between the two different entities that share the name. "NICOLE" in all-caps refers to the computer itself. "Nicole" in CamelCase is the actual "soul", or the lynx who inhabits this computer, that has ArtificalIntelligence which GrewBeyondTheirProgramming.

* ArtificialIntelligence: An unambiguously benevolent one.
* AscendedExtra: She was around almost since the beginning, but #151's "Stargazing" set her on a track that led from "occasional prop" to "front-line Freedom Fighter".

* GrewBeyondTheirProgramming: In both continuities, she starts out as nothing much then a standard computer program that keeps the cast updated on Eggman. Eventually she started to gain more of a personality till eventually she created a body of her own in a desire to interact more directly with the cast. After which, she had pretty much gained sentience and now a fully fleshed out character in her own right.
* MyNaymeIs: For the record - "NICOLE" usually refers to the computer; "Nicole" is the actual "soul".
* PinocchioSyndrome: Why she created her nanomachine/holographic form. Though it's a subversion as she acknowledges that she's already a fully sentient being who can think, reason, and understand basic emotions, she just wanted to experience and interact with the real world. Post-reboot, [[spoiler:she seemed to have achieved this]].
* ProjectedMan: She alternates between a real body constructed of nanites and a holographic projection. The latter is much less labor-intensive to sustain. Post-reboot, she instead used power rings to create a solid form.
** Turned up a notch following [[spoiler: the use of the red-star ring, which is implied to have changed the way she can physically interact with the world and possibly allow her to "feel"; overlaps with Pinocchio Syndrome]]. {{Lampshaded}} in the Off-Panel.

* IntimateMarks: Her Royal Birthmark (only mentioned, not seen) is ''[[http://archive.is/rJskc very heavily implied]]'' to be located in a private area. It's notably [[FurIsClothing not visible at any time despite her minimal clothing.]]

* TheLinus: In earlier issues, Sally was still intelligent but somewhat bratty tempered. Toned down in later issues where she arguably [[WomenAreWiser the most mature]] of the main Freedom Fighters.

Following the reboot, the nanite city of New Mobotropolis has been replaced by the restored city of Mobotropolis. To compensate for the loss of the nanites, Nicole can project her holographic form by simply by attaching a power ring to her handheld unit. She now works in the field with the Freedom Fighters. In this continuity, Nicole was created by Dr. Ellidy, a scientist in the service of the Kingdom of Acorn, and given as a gift to a young Princess Sally. [[spoiler: Later backstory reveal that she was the result of Ellidy trying to upload the brain of his terminally ill daughter, Nikki. It didn't seem to work, but the comic implies that, through Nicole's interaction with the Freedom Fighters, that it was sucessful just took awhile for her personality to come to the forefront.]]

* {{Nanomachines}}: She made extensive use of them, creating an entire cityafter Knothole was destroyed.

* TookALevelInBadass: She gradually works to bring the Nannite horde undercontrol and then uses them to become New Mobotropolis. With the wealth of Power she draws from the former irradiated capital, NICOLE had considerable power, being able to fend off Robotnik with ease and manipulate the nanites into strong offensive and defensive weapons.

* BrainUploading: [[spoiler:Nicole's programming was based on the mind of Dr. Ellidy's terminally ill daughter Nikki, in a last-ditch, ultimately unsuccessful attempt to save her. Or at least that's what he thinks, the comic seems to imply that it ''did'' work but wasn't as instantaneous as he wanted. [[GaveUpTooSoon So he deemed it a failure]] and gave the computer to Sally who's interaction with Nicole brought up more of her personalty, with it presumed that this is Nikki but "reborn" in a sense.]]

* ParentalAbandonment: Both his parents were killed in an Eggman raid while he was away from home. He recieved an email from Nicole about it later.

In the new universe, he's was part of a tribe of warrior walruses where he was a techology prodigy, but his father, a very old fashioned being, hated technology and, according to his words, him as well. Rotor left home in hopes of finding a place in New Mobotropolis only to arrive when Eggman was in control of the kingdom. Sally saved him and he put his talents to use making weapons and gadgets for the Freedom Fighters. He, along with Tails, developed the Tornados and the team's base, Sky Patrol, .

* HeroicBSOD: [[spoiler: Briefly became dishearted upon finding that his father was one of Eggman's Egg Boss and likewise still shows him no respect. Sonic manages to snap him out of it, stating that Rotor is more a man than he is because he was willing to fight Eggman rather then roll over like his father did.]]

* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass:He may be a simple-minded cat, but he is ''canonically'' the ''strongest'' character, beating out powerhourses like Bark and Mighty.

* PurpleIsPowerful: Big has purple fur and is physically the stringest character in the series, surpassing even Knuckles and Mighty who are renowed for their incredible strength.

* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Similar to her [[WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM animated counterpart]], Sally was initially developed more as a [[{{Hypocrite}} hypocritical equal to Sonic]], and could frequently act rather [[SmallNameBigEgo egotistical]], [[GrumpyBear moody]] and [[ControlFreak bossy]]. As the series took [[CerebusSyndrome a more serious turn]], Sally mellowed out greatly, to the point of being the most consistently mature and serious minded Freedom Fighter of the main team.

* GrumpyBear: In earlier points of the comics at least. While still often enthusiastic, Sally was often the most sardonic and irritable of the main Freedom Fighters. Snarking aside, this is far less prominent in later issues.

* PhysicalGod: Both his Super Sonic and Ultra Sonic forms. Super Sonic has the same powers as his main counterpart, but Ultra Sonic is on a whole other level as in this form he is unbeatable and invincible as well as having fate manipulation.

* SuperMode: Super Sonic, of course.

EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: Some aspects of Sonic's character from the earlier stories seem jarring when compared to elements that have become generally accepted aspects of his character. Such as his [[SuperDrowningSkills lack of hydrophobia]], which has since been incorporated into more recent stories.

* CompressedVice: Writers have frequently tried to make Sally more flawed in reply to complaints of her PositiveDiscrimination. A lot of her shortcomings however tend not to stick or conflict with her more constant personality. Her occasional bouts of recklessness (something she usually foils Sonic over) is a glaring example.

* PositiveDiscrimination: Occasionally leans as this due to her WomenAreWiser personality and prominent role. While several stories in recent years have attempted to tone this down and make her more fallible, her flaws and quirks are still not as defined as many other heroes, her characterisation still largely a more intelligent and dignified foil for her team mates.

* HalfDressedCartoonAnimal: After the reboot, he ditched the coat entirely and pretty much joins the rest of the boys in the "go naked except for shoes and gloves" club.

* DidntThinkThisThrough: A recurring problem with him. Pre-reboot, this nearly cost him his friendship with Tails when he, hurting over a recent breakup with Sally, pursued a relationship with Fiona despite full knowledge of Tails' own crush on her. When Tails confronts him about being so insensitive over it in issue 179, Sonic explains that he knew that Tails liked Fiona and that she had no interest in him, so he went out with her to prevent Tails' own feelings from getting hurt and hoped it would help him get over it, while acknowledging that it was a spur of the moment idea and he didn't think before he took action.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: Some aspects of Sonic's character from the earlier stories seem jarring when compared to elements that have become generally accepted aspects of his character. Such as his [[SuperDrowningSkills lack of hydrophobia]], which has since been incorporated into more recent stories.

* RebuiltPedestal: With Silver by the final pre-reboot story. While Sonic's view of Silver, as mentioned above, was still ''incredibly'' coarse at first, after Silver apologises and explains his WindmillCrusader escapade is dealt with, Sonic, albeit with reluctance, agrees to work with him, ultimately forgiving him and even playfully congratulating him after he helps them capture the roboticised Sally. Incidentally this peacemaking would serve as the final interaction of the pre-reboot continuity.

* NiceHat: She started wearing one after Sonic's year-long exile in space.

* NiceHat: In the old continuity, Rotor used to wear a yellow cap.

* DeadpanSnarker: Takes this trait from the games and amps it UpToEleven.

* [[DemotedToExtra Demoted To Supporting Character]]: For a while[[note]]usually during Ken Penders' run[[/note]], it seemed like other characters like Knuckles were more important to the world of the comic than he was.

* [[HonoraryUncle Honorary Aunt]]: To Tails, who calls her "Aunt Sally".

* RantInducingSlight: Yes, even ''Cream'' has her limits. When Nack captures Cheese and the Sol Emerald, Cream lunges at him only to be stopped by Bark. She then proceeds to rattle off the following quote, in a way only a well-meaning, polite kid like her would do.
-->'''Cream''': How ''dare'' you kidnap Cheese! Don't hold him by his wings like that! Do you know how sensitive they are? And give back Miss Blaze's Sol Emerald! We have worked very hard to get that back for her, you know! This whole day has been nothing but roughhousing and rude people and I simply ''will not tolerate it!''

* AdaptationalJerkass: While not to the extent of his ''ComicBook/SonicTheComic'' counterpart, Sonic's flaws are emphasized more in this incarnation, and he verges into JerkWithAHeartOfGold territory more often than not. Examples include the following:
** On top of dating Fiona despite full knowledge of Tails' crush on her, during the House of Cards arc, he ends up criticizing and insulting Tails' father for kick-starting a VelvetRevolution ''right in front of Tails himself'', and when trying to stop his mother from breaking him out of jail to continue it, fully expects Tails to be 100% okay with him doing so, going so far as to smirk and gloat to Rosemary and Amadeus' faces that even if they are his parents, Tails [[HeroWorshipper worships]] him and will [[EasilyForgiven get over it]]. Instead, Tails is justifiably pissed over all of that, on top of his dating Fiona, and hearing that leads him to snap and try to beat the crap out of Sonic.
** In the games, Sonic is generally an AllLovingHero (if with a sarcastic streak and GoodIsNotSoft moments), while in Archie, as much as he ''tries'' to be such at times, he generally has a history of holding long lasting and sometimes even outright violent grudges:
*** After the events of ''Sonic 3 and Knuckles'', Sonic seemed perfectly willing to befriend Knuckles, with most of the distrust and resentment one-way on Knuckles' part, and often comedic (though Sonic has no qualms playfully insulting him). In the comics, the two both straight up ''hated'' each other for a long while even after Knuckles realizes he's been duped by Robotnik, and while Knuckles generally avoids the same trickery afterwards, they still regularly spat, blame each other for things going wrong or just show petty resentment towards each other, with just as much vitriol on Sonic's part as Knuckles'. They cool down eventually, but still have more serious disagreements than in the games.

* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Her EarlyInstallmentWeirdness has her appearing in different color schemes for her fur (black hair with pink body fur, and later yellow/blonde hair with chestnut brown body fur). It was later retconned that these changes came from falling into a chemical vat by accident, thankfully harmless and temporary before going back to normal.

* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: When she first made her comic debut being abducted by SWAT bots to be roboticized, Bunnie was originally portrayed [[AppropiateAnimalAttire clothesless much like Sally]], due to her signature backless LeotardOfPower being interpreted as pink ''fur''. This error was fixed in future stories, where Bunnie's leotard is clearly shown to be an article of clothing.

* ExposedAnimalBellybutton: Zig-zagged example. In her more "anatomically-correct" appearances (typically by Steven Butler), Sally is often drawn with a more detailed tummy, complete with her navel visible through her fur. In most of her other appearances though (as seen above), it doesn't usually appear.

* [[HonoraryUncle Honorary Aunt]]: To Tails who calls her "Aunt Bunnie".
* HumanoidFemaleAnimal: Like Sally, certain Archie artists were prone to [[SelfFanservice exaggerating some choice elements of her physique]], going so far as to redesign her cyborg proportions to suit these changes.

* MsFanservice: [[http://archive.is/bFp8N She became this trope]] following a rather [[SelfFanservice questionable]] "upgrade".

* ProgressivelyPrettier: In her early appearances she looked similar to her appearance in ''WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM'': She was a cute looking rabbit with a fluff of fur on her head, contrasting against [[{{Cyborg}} bulky cybernetic limbs.]] Later on she received a taller and more curvy figure, began wearing cuter clothes (and often a cowboy hat), and grew hair on her head.
