* KrakenAndLeviathan: Issak's Kraken Scale does not belong in the Greek corpus of myth, but it is added, nonetheless. Its usual depiction is that of a squid or octopus, but here we have a large [[SinisterStingrays manta ray]].

* IronicName: Unintentional example. The manga claims Chrysaor means "golden lance", hence his weapon of choice. In reality, his name means "golden sword", which is ironic considering Shiryu destroeyd his pillar with the sword of the Capricorn Gold Cloth's Excalibur wielded by a mere bronze.

* MeaningfulName: Their Cloths are based on sea-related creatures and entities from Greek myths:
** OurMermaidsAreDifferent: Thetys's Cloth is based on the more popular depiction of mermaids as a beautiful half-fish, half-woman female creature.

* KnightTemplar: Even when he was only a Saint candidate in training along with Hyoga, Isaac admired the Kraken because it would sink only ships with sinful people (such as pirates) on them. Hyoga questions this, as it would entail killing innocent people which just happened to be on board as well. Isaac still calls it the best way of making justice. From there, to being chosen by the Scales of Kraken as their bearer, thereby gaining the rank of Mariner General in the service of Poseidon, to wholeheartedly agreeing with the Sea God's plan to eradicate a seemingly corrupted mankind with massive floodings, there were but small steps.

* LeanAndMean: He is the most vicious Marina General as he manipulates his enemies feelings and strikes them at their most vulnerable moment.
* MasterOfIllusion: Caça can mimic the appearance and personality of others. He can't copy techniques, but his illusion convincing enough to make Hyoga lowers his guard when he impersonate Camus, and Caça looked like he was using his chains when he managed to land a wound on Ikki's cheek.

* TooDumbToLive: Lampshaded. During his fight agaisnt Ikki, Caça decides to use his shapeshift ability right in front of the Phoenix Saint. Not only that, but the transformed into Shun, who was lying unconscious just next to him. Naturally, Ikki ​just punches through the illusion without a shred of hesitation, when Caça states he did consider the aforementioned points, and that his powers had never failed him before.

* DyingAsYourself: In the manga, [[spoiler:Thetis was initially only a small fish that was rescued from dying on the seashore by an infant Julian, then miraculously gained a human form and served Poseidon (who was possessing young Julian's body) as the Mermaid Mariner. After Poseidon's soul is imprisoned by Athena again, Thetis does one last duty for Julian by saving him from drowning in the collapsing temple, but in doing so she dies herself, regaining her original fish form. Julian awakes and sees the already dead fish laying alongside him, but can't remember who the fish was (as his memories of being possessed by Poseidon are gone, as well as the memories of having saved it when he was a kid), however he feels an unexplained sadness and decides to release her inert body into the sea.]]
* HappilyEverAfter: In the end of the Poseidon Arc in the manga, Thetis [[spoiler: changed back into a fish. Julian comes back and finds her dead fish body and [[PietaPlagiarism holds it gently in his hands]] before releasing it into the sea]]. In the anime, it was happier where Thetis [[spoiler: changes into a mermaid and [[SparedByTheAdaptation you can see her leaping in and out of the water]] with the good guys staring at the sunset]].

* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler: She died saving Julian. He and Sorrento later found her dead fish body and [[TearJerker they both cried for her]]. But since Julian lost his memory and Sorrento doesn't know what her fish form looked like, they were probably more saddened about a fish dying while trying to get on the land.]]

** ThisCannotBe: When Pegasus damages his Sea Horse Scales, whose hardness and endurance which he thought to be equal to that of a Gold Cloth.

** Comes with an helping of WhatAnIdiot as he impersonates Shun 1) in front of Ikki 2) with the actual Shun lying unconscious JUST NEXT TO HIM. But this is actually meant to stress how borderline emotion-less Ikki is, since he just punches through the illusion without a shred of hesitation, when Caça states he did consider the aforementioned points, and that his powers had never failed him before.

** DudeLooksLikeALady: Sorrento can pass for a woman very easily, if not for a fact that he is voiced by a man and [[spoiler: later on is seen wearing a masculine male vest while accompanying Julian.]]

* DidntThinkThisThrough: Not using the full power of his beasts the first time around proved to be a big mistake, as by the time he wanted to finish off Shun, he -and the Andromeda Chain- had figured a way to neutralize all six of them.

He was utterly enraged when he found out that Hyoga's primary motivation to become a Saint was to acquire the power he needed in order see his dead mother, whose ship-wreck laid at the bottom of the Siberian Sea.

* EvilFormerFriend / RivalTurnedEvil: He was Hyoga's friend (and rival) back in their childhood when they both were training under Camus' (or the Crystal Saint's in the anime) tutelage to become the next Cygnus Saint.
* EyeScream / GoodScarsEvilScars: The result of saving Hyoga's life. He inflicts the same to Hyoga in return.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Back when both Hyoga and him were undergoing Saint training, Isaac was this, being zealous and adamant in his pursuit of noble ideals like world's peace and justice. He believed Hyoga's motivation to become a Saint was the same as his own, to fight for the sake of peace and justice, but was furious when he found Hyoga's reasons were actually selfish (to gain the strength needed to break through the solid ice sheet over the Arctic sea and visit his mother's dead body, which was preserved intact by the cold Arctic waters in which her ship sank), and upon hearing the truth confirmed by Hyoga himself, Isaac viciously attacked and battered him to a pulp, but eventually relented and let him go, not before breaking the thick layer of ice for him. Before walking away, he advised Hyoga to be careful about the dangerous sea currents in the depths, but despite Isaac's warnings Hyoga was dragged by the currents anyway. Noticing Hyoga was not returning from the sea, Isaac dived after him and succeeded in saving his friend from drowning in the cold currents, but he himself was dragged into a maelstrom and Hyoga never saw him again... [[RivalTurnedEvil until he resurfaced as a Mariner General serving Poseidon]].
