* ReplacementScrappy: After Tyson was replaced by Mr. Dream, many complained. Doesn't help that Mr. Dream seems generic and not a lot of originality went into him (same body type Tyson had, same exact dialogue, same exact moves, 99-0-99 record, comes from [[WhereTheHellIsSpringfield Dreamland]], etc.). At least Nick Bruiser was fairly memorable...

* GoodBadBugs: It's unkown whether the strategy of ducking Soda's uppercuts on the NES was intentional or a glitch, but it makes beating him insanely easy.

* PunnyName: His first name, Aran, sounds like the name for Ireland in the Irish language. However, the Wii game, which has dialog in multiple languages, shows that his primary language is English (not surprising, since Dublin isn't in one of the parts of the country that predominately use Irish).

* FlipFlopOfGod: Some say his one win was a fluke against Von Kaiser. Some, citing the top time in ''Super Punch-Out'', say it was Rick Bruiser (although that falls apart, given that Rick's only loss was against his brother Nick). Nintendo has not clarified anything yet.
** Actually, the rumour is that Joe's win was a fluke against ''NICK'' Bruiser before the Bruiser Bros. went pro. This is because one of the fastest times against Nick is Glass Joe's name. This could explain why Joe doesn't give up...

* MadeOfIron / MadeOfPlasticine: Both tropes are humorously combined. Although Joe can't take a punch and will go down faster than ParisHilton on a first date, somehow he's managed to avoid becoming a drooling vegetable from all the punishment he's taken.
* MeaningfulName: Obviously, a play on "glass jaw", a severe and possibly career-killing affliction. Not that it stops Glass Joe.

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: A shell-shocked veteran? Perhaps, but looking closely at his facial tic, his mannerisms and sounds, he really sounds and carries over himself as a machine. [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin One of his taunts confirms this: He is a fighting machine and he's here to fight!]] Still doesn't fully explains his shaking during intermissions, though.

* MemeticMutation: "Give zem ZE UPPERCUT!"
** AscendedMeme: One of his attack lines in Punch Out Wii roughly translates to "Give them the uppercut."

* BreatherBoss: A lot easier in the NES game than most of the people before him (at least the first time you fight him, on the major circuit). Not so much in the Wii version, as he's the Major Circuit champ and pretty challenging (assuming you don't know about the infinite loop trick).

* MemeticBadass: Bald Bull is one of the most popular challengers because he's ''so damn cool''.

* ThatOneBoss: Title Defense Bald Bull is ''the'' most loathed fight in the Wii version. Why? The short version is that you can't beat him by interrupting the Bull Charge.
** He also will NOT be knocked down unless he's hit with a Star Punch.

* CrowningMusicOfAwesome: His theme in the Wii game is one word: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpccRdanqEA&feature=related EPIC.]] It even has a chorus!

* MostAnnoyingSound - Whenever he knocks you down in the NES version, he stands there, hands on hips, and lets loose with this obnoxious 8-bit ''guffaw'' while you struggle to get up. He does [[ContinuityNod exactly the same thing]] in the Wii version, except with a human voice.

* MemeticMutation: Thanks to the nature of the audio clips in the game, his accidental catchphrase is "Release the BOGUS!"
** Or at other times, "Release the DUDE!"

* ThatOneBoss: Not only considered the toughest boxer in the game, but one of the toughest bosses of the NES era. Beating this guy is probably harder than beating the real Mike Tyson in his prime.
** Really? You think that the speed of your fingers could match the strength of [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown '88]] [[CombatPragmatist Mike]] [[CurbStompBattle Tyson's]] fists?

* SurpriseDifficulty: Considering he's the first boxer to appear in the arcade version of Super Punch Out, many expected him to be a wuss like Glass Joe. Then they eat his one-hit-knockdown head clap.

* BreatherBoss: Big time, his battle takes place after Bald Bull. Despite his ConfusionFu he's about as powerful as Gabby Jay.

* NotCheatingUnlessYouGetCaught: Oh brother does use this trope; His corner man announces "the Ref's not looking" before Muscle spits in your eyes.

* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Many reacted negatively when hearing that one of the most bland characters from the SNES version was appearing in the Wii game. After seeing his new attitude he's becoming quite popular, [[DracoInLeatherPants specially with female players]].

* CrowningMomentOfFunny: Admit it, him overreacting is ''priceless''.

* ThatOneBoss: Hell yes.
** More because he's the one most likely to cause you to lose by Time Over, with his evasive ability and his super-gauge-draining combos.

* ThatOneBoss: While most consider Title Defense Bald Bull to be the hardest fight in the game, [[spoiler:Donkey Kong]] comes close. What makes him so hard is that there are very few chances to do any actual damage to him, as he tends to avoid your attacks and doesn't take many of your punches when he's stunned unless you avoided ALL of his attacks, which are often in (completely unpredictable) strings of five.
