!!Team Everlasting

[[folder:The team as a whole]]
* AerithAndBob: Zigzagged; Alesia has a human name while her teammates have Pokémon names, but said Pokémon names are standard in this world while hers is not, and Alesia isn't a common human name anyway.
* AFriendInNeed:
** Riolu and Popplio invite Alesia to join their team so she can stay with them in their team base and work with them to earn the 5,000 Poké she has been ordered to pay Trevenant.
** Before they formed their team, Riolu couldn't stand to see Popplio suffer at the hands of his parents, so ran away with him.
* BadassAdorable: They're all first-stage evolutions.
* BittersweetSeventeen: Mainly for Riolu and Popplio, who were forced to run away from their hometown (and Popplio's AbusiveParents) so they could form their R.E.E.D. team.
* ComicTrio: Riolu is the leader and Popplio somewhat fits the role of the fool. He's not stupid, just eccentric, but is much more willing to follow Riolu's instructions than Alesia, the OnlySaneWoman.
* CostumeEvolution:
** When Alesia first wakes up as an Eevee, she is wearing a red bracelet. She takes it off and leaves it in Ambient Cave.
** The trio are indistinguishable from other members of their species until ''A Mutual Cause'' when they all get scarves to wear from that point on.
* CuteBruiser: Riolu and Popplio most definitely. Alesia can't fight at first, but gets the hang of it.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment:
** Alesia's is her panic when she wakes up in the pitch black darkness of Ambient Cave.
** Riolu's is downright ''insulting'' Alesia over her insistence that she used to be a human.
** Popplio's is believing Alesia's backstory about previously being a human without any sort of proof or evidence.
-->'''Popplio:''' Why would she lie? What's in it for her?
* FireForgedFriends: The circumstances behind Alesia joining the two boys aren't the greatest, since she sticks with them so she can earn money to pay a fine imposed on her.
* HeroicDog: All three of their species are at least partially based on dogs. WordOfGod says this was unintentional.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: With the residents of Izolo Village, particularly the normal-colored Braviary twin, Gallade, and Kangaskhan, and in Popplio's case, the shiny Braviary twin.
* KidHero: As is assumed for the players and partners in the games (especially evident with the team from VideoGame/PokemonSuperMysteryDungeon). Riolu is specifically noted to be seventeen.
* NiceMeanAndInBetween: Popplio, Riolu, and Alesia respectively. Alesia isn't as short-tempered or sarcastic as Riolu, but laughs along with him at Toucannon's insult at Trevenant while Popplio refrains from doing so, and when Riolu gets bitten by a Magikarp, Alesia is busy laughing her ass off while Popplio assists Riolu.
* OddFriendship: You wouldn't expect a no-nonsense hardass such as Riolu to be best friends with an sweet, fun cloudcuckoolander like Popplio. What bonds them together is their mutual passion for helping others by forming a R.E.E.D. team.
* OutOfCharacterMoment: In ''A Chapter that is Very Legitimate''. None of them object to the physical abuse Chatot is put through, and Alesia grabs some untested gum to chew to calm her nerves. Justified in that, A. they're taking part in a scripted performance, and B. the chapter is non-canon.
* PowerTrio: They're all very effective together.
* RookieMaleExperiencedFemale: Gender inverted; Alesia doesn't fully know her way around the world of Pokémon and relies primarily on Riolu and Popplio for guidance.
* ScarfOfAsskicking: A Joy Ribbon for Alesia, a Power Band for Riolu, and a Special Band for Popplio. Justified in that A. they were given the scarves for becoming a R.E.E.D. team, and B. the scarves enhance their abilities.
* TeensAreShort: Justified; these ''are'' first-stage evolutions.
* TertiarySexualCharacteristics: Averted. The scarves they wear are all the same shape, and in, for the most part, stereotypically non-gendered colors.
* TrueCompanions: Especially Riolu and Popplio.
* TwoGuysAndAGirl
* WithAFriendAndAStranger: Played straight with Riolu and Popplio. Averted with Alesia.
* WithFriendsLikeThese: Alesia and Riolu don't tend to get along. They both get along well with Popplio, however.
* WouldHitAGirl:
** When they fight the trio of Klefki bandits who blew up Ferrothorn Bank.
** [[{{Troll}} Riolu]] shoves Alesia onto a log floating on the river of Sweeping Rapids.
** When Alesia won't stop annoying Riolu on the way home in ''True Colors'', he threatens to throw her off Lapras and into the water. It's not clear if he was joking.

The main protagonist and a human girl transformed into an Eevee and sent to the world of Pokémon. She first wakes up as an Eevee in Ambient Cave and is discovered by Riolu and Popplio, who let her join their R.E.E.D. team.
----
* AbsenteeActor: In ''Second Interlude''; justified in that this chapter covers Riolu and Popplio's backstory before they found her in Ambient Cave.
* {{Adorkable}}: She can get like this at times if you find it cute when she gets scared, or when someone praises her and she doesn't quite know how to react.
* AmnesiacHero: Can remember only a few details about her human life.
* AngerBornOfWorry: She has this to Riolu in ''Riolu and the Tyrunt's Den'' when she and Popplio see him unconscious. However, it's also for other reasons, such as causing her and Popplio an inconvenience of coming to find him, in addition to the fact that Team Guile, whom he wanted to upstage, offered their hospitality to Team Everlasting.
* BalefulPolymorph: As is standard for the games, she is a human turned into a Pokémon, specifically an Eevee.
* BeleagueredAssistant: Riolu gets on her nerves with his frequent put-downs of her.
* BerserkButton: Gets very angry when Riolu challenges her assertion that she used to be a human.
* BlueIsHeroic: Her Joy Ribbon is off-white with cyan polka dots.
* BookDumb: Inverted; she seems reasonably knowledgeable regarding healthy eating habits and convergent evolution, but relies heavily on those around her, particularly Riolu and Popplio, to help her navigate through the Pokémon world.
* CommanderContrarian: Calls Riolu an "idiot" under her breath when he leaves for Kaia Town to steal Team Guile's work. Lampshaded by Riolu:
--> '''Riolu:''' Hey! I'm the leader of this team, and I'm the only one who gives orders! Know your place!
* CowardlyLion: Noticeably more easily frightened than her teammates, but still gets the job done nonetheless.
* CowardlySidekick: Inverted; she could be considered a sidekick to Riolu since he's the leader of the team, but Alesia is the main protagonist of the story.
* DamselInDistress: At the beginning when she's trapped in Ambient Cave and is freed by Riolu and Popplio.
* DemotedToExtra: In ''A Chapter that is Very Legitimate'', she takes the place of Violet Beauregarde, and as such is gone until the very end of the chapter after chewing the gum in the Inventing Room.
* DirtyCoward: Subverted. When Popplio gets knocked out by Melmetal, Alesia runs away. It looks like she's bailing on the battle, but turns out she's giving Popplio a Tiny Reviver Seed.
* TheDogBitesBack: Counts as a literal example since a dog is one of the animals Eevee's design is based on. In ''Climbing the Ranks'', after all the crap Riolu has given her (teasing her and shoving her into a river), she's quick to laugh at him when he gets bitten on the tail by a Magikarp, and mock him later on after he triggers a trap.
* HeroicMime: Averted. Unlike the protagonists of the games, she consistently speaks in full sentences as opposed to only during near the end of the game.
* HystericalWoman: By far the most easily scared of the team, from how she hides behind her teammates at the sight of Melmetal and ducks for cover when she hears explosions.
* IdentityAmnesia: Downplayed; she remembers her name and a few pieces about her human life, but has forgotten everything else.
* IdiotBall: Holds it in ''A Chapter that is Very Legitimate'' when [[JustifiedTrope she's so shaken up by what's happening around her that she grabs some untested gum to chew to calm her nerves]]. She spits it out almost immediately and only gets some blue coloration on her face as a result. As with all the [[OutOfCharacterMoment Out-of-Character Moments]] in this chapter, this is part of a scripted performance ''and'' non-canon.
* IneffectualLoner: Her more capable side comes out with encouragement from her teammates.
* JustWokeUpThatWay: Becoming an Eevee.
* LovableCoward: She knows better than to needlessly get into dangerous situations and that since she's new to the Pokémon world, it's in her best interest not to get too ambitious.
* NaiveNewcomer: Since she's new to the Pokémon world, coupled with the fact that she has amnesia, she doesn't have as much combat expertise as her teammates and frequently needs to be taught how things work.
* NiceGirl: Doesn't go out of her way to be antagonistic to anyone. Whenever she teases or berates Riolu, he really does have it coming.
* [[NoRespectGuy No Respect Girl]]: Even though she helps Riolu and Popplio every mission, the former keeps chewing her out for supposed "cowardice".
* NoSympathy: For Riolu when he suffers humiliating instances of LaserGuidedKarma during the journey up Sweeping Rapids, and later when Steenee finds him unconscious in Cutthroat Maze.
* OddNameOut: Unlike her teammates (and the rest of the Pokémon in the story) who [[ADogNamedDog go by their species names]], she has a human name.
* OnlySaneWoman: Popplio is a {{Cloudcuckoolander}} and [[HonorBeforeReason Riolu is arrogant to the point of endangering himself]]. Alesia is perplexed at times by the former and refuses to go along with the latter's plans to one-up Team Guile.
* PinocchioSyndrome: She gets used to being an Eevee, but would still prefer to go back to being a human.
* ProperlyParanoid: She doesn't want to enter Rusted Complex at first on the grounds that the purple Kecleon went inside and hasn't come out, so she's scared of what's inside... which turns out to be Melmetal.
* TheProtagonist
* RedOniBlueOni: Cautious and more likely to KnowWhenToFoldEm, she is the Blue Oni to Riolu's Red Oni, with his hotheadedness and determination.
* RighteousRabbit: Is generally a friendly person and also willing to join Team Everlasting to help those in need.
* ShrinkingViolet: Decides not to find anyone to dance with in ''Digging for Truth''.
* SlapstickKnowsNoGender:
** Is on the receiving end of a [[XRaySparks Thundershock]] in ''A Mutual Cause''.
** Gets [[ButtBiter bitten on the backside]] by a Zubat in ''In a Rich 'Mon's World''.
* TokenHuman: Well, at least ''was'' human before the events of the story.
* TrappedInAnotherWorld: Again, to follow in the footsteps of the games.
* TrueBlueFemininity: Has blue polka dots on her scarf.
* TheWatson: Asks lots of questions about the Pokémon world and how it works.
* WomanInWhite: Her Joy Ribbon is this, disregarding the polka dots.
* WomenAreWiser: Zigzagged; she has neither the headstrong arrogance of Riolu nor the [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} Cloudcuckoolanderness]] of Popplio, but they both have more experience than her with the world of Pokémon.

The leader of Team Everlasting. He has a no-nonsense attitude and doesn't suffer cowards, but is still genuinely interested in helping those in need deep down.
----
* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: As the leader of the team, he's almost the one most equipped and passionate about combat.
* BadassInDistress: When he gets knocked unconscious in Cutthroat Maze.
* BerserkButton: He takes his R.E.E.D. team duties very seriously, so stand in his way somehow and it won't end well for you.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Seems to have this for Popplio. He is deeply angered by how Popplio's parents mistreat their son, and when Popplio gets bitten on the nose by a Crobat, Riolu blasts it away, then applies a band-aid to Popplio's nose.
* BloodKnight: Of the trio, he's the most prepared to fight.
* BreakTheHaughty: His attempted revenge on Team Guile ends in failure.
* BringMyRedJacket: Since his scarf is pretty close to red for all intents and purposes:
** PlayedForLaughs in ''Climbing the Ranks'' where he receives several AmusingInjuries.
** PlayedForDrama in ''Lights Out'' when he gets slammed head-first into a wall and knocked unconscious.
* BrutalHonesty: Has no problem telling Alesia that he doesn't believe she used to be a human.
* ButtMonkey: Gets hit with this hard in ''Climbing The Ranks''. He falls into a river, has his tail bitten by a Magikarp, and gets buried under a pile of chestnuts upon stepping on a Chestnut Trap.
* CantGetAwayWithNuthin: Nearly all of his acts of jerkassery end in some sort of LaserGuidedKarma.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: He only seems to have a shorter temper with Popplio in the first couple of chapters.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Popplio, with whom Riolu trained for the day they would become a R.E.E.D. team.
* ClassicalAntihero: Despite wanting to help others and save lives and caring deeply for his best friend Popplio, he is a jerk to Alesia (at least for a good portion of the story at the start) and gets himself in trouble by trying to get revenge on two Pokémon who didn't even go out of their way to cause him trouble.
* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: To Popplio [[SubvertedTrope (who can actually take care of himself but stays with Riolu nonetheless for companionship)]].
* TheComicallySerious: He's known Popplio long enough [[GivingUpOnLogic not to question his logic]] in believing Alesia really is a human, and he's none too amused at the Klefki bandits' utter failure to escape with their sack of Poké.
--> '''Riolu:''' [[WorstWhateverEver ...Wow. Worst.]] [[PunctuatedForEmphasis Criminals. Ever.]] *FacePalm*
* CompetitionFreak: He doesn't take it well in the slightest when Team Guile beat him and his team to an outlaw.
* ComplainingAboutRescuesTheyDontLike: When he regains consciousness after being knocked out, he's not happy to learn that Steenee was the one who saved him and that he is currently in the home of Team Guile.
* DarkIsNotEvil: He may be kind of a jerk, but by no means is he evil.
* DeadpanSnarker: Notably to Alesia for her cowardice and her insistence that she was a human. He's not impressed when she announces she's getting the hang of walking.
* {{Determinator}}: Shows the most bravery out of all the team members and goes to extreme lengths to get revenge on Team Guile, not scared by the name or appearance of [[IDontLikeTheSoundOfThatPlace Cutthroat Maze]].
* DonutMessWithACop: He's not exactly a police officer, but he does work on a team intended to rescue helpless Pokémon and take down criminals. And he sure does love Mega Donuts.
* EveryoneHasStandards:
** Even he can't stand Trevenant, and insults him when he rudely accuses Alesia of having stolen one of his books.
** He's annoyed by Alesia, but not enough to neglect getting assistance from Gallade to make sure she's kept safe in Rusted Complex.
** He cares for and respects Popplio so much that he didn't like Popplio's team name suggestion of "Riolu's Enforcers" on the grounds that it only included Riolu's name without Popplio's.
** When it turns out a member of the same team he tried to steal a job from is working to send money home to her family, he feels awful about it.
* FatalFlaw: His pride and arrogance. Wasting a day pursuing Cacturne only to discover Team Guile have already defeated the outlaw pisses him off so much that he plots to find out what job they're doing, and complete it before they can. This results in him being knocked unconscious, which could literally have been fatal if Steenee hadn't discovered him.
* FearlessFool: He's incredibly courageous and chews out Alesia for not being so, but this gets him in trouble a few times.
* FreudianExcuse: His no-nonsense attitude to his work and impatience toward [[HystericalWoman Alesia]] could be explained by his largely [[FantasyForbiddingFather unsupportive parents]], who were, as far as he's concerned, "cowards".
* GoodIsNotNice: For all his abrasive behavior, he is still firmly on the side of good, angry at how Popplio's parents abuse their son (ie. Riolu's best friend) and offering Alesia food and shelter if she joins the team.
* GreenEyedMonster: Wants to steal a job from Team Guile [[DisproportionateRetribution for completing a job they didn't know Team Everlasting were going to]].
* HairTriggerTemper: Alesia's antics annoy him, and he is all too furious when Team Guile defeat the outlaw Team Everlasting were supposed to.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Popplio.
* HonorBeforeReason: His attempted revenge on Team Guile lends itself to this.
* HotBlooded: Very passionate about his job.
* JerkassHasAPoint:
** It's only natural that he'd have trouble believing Alesia's claims that she was formerly a human.
** He also tells Alesia that she could end up in an asylum if she keeps insisting she was a human.
** There's his impatience toward Alesia for her cowardice; if she isn't willing to pull her own weight, she could be a liability.
* JerkassToOne:
** Played straight with Alesia. Other than one instance of briefly yelling at Popplio in frustration, he treats him well, but routinely picks on Alesia out of frustration with her cowardice, and when they first meet, he does not take kindly to her insistence that she was formerly human.
** Inverted with Popplio, who Riolu shows more kindness and affection to than he does to anyone else.
* JerkJock: Mainly to Alesia, at least until he decides to treat her better.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: While he is somewhat arrogant and short-tempered, he does mean well and have an excellent work ethic.
* TheLeader: Of Team Everlasting, unlike the games where it's the main character who takes this role.
* LikeFatherUnlikeSon: [[FantasyForbiddingFather His parents]] are much more cautious than he is about the idea of being on a R.E.E.D. team.
* TheLoad: Mostly averted, but trying to complete a job by himself and getting knocked out as a result forces Popplio and Alesia to go after him.
* MenAreChildish: At the end of ''Riolu in the Tyrunt's Den'', Alesia calls him out on his attempted revenge on Team Guile and the trouble it caused.
* NeverTellMeTheOdds: Alesia is second-guessing entering Rusted Complex because of what might be inside. Riolu blows her off.
* ObfuscatingDisability: In ''True Colors'', [[ItMakesSenseInContext Popplio lies that Riolu is colorblind]]. Riolu goes along with it and compliments a Bellossom on her "orange" (read: pink) hat.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Is downright ''terrified'' [[MakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext when he is about to be stretched by Wiggly Wonka's taffy-pulling machine]].
* {{Pride}}: When Team Guile defeat an outlaw Team Everlasting was supposed to, Riolu won't let it slide and wants to get back at them.
* PrimaryColorChampion: Is blue and wears a vermilion and yellow scarf.
* RedIsHeroic: His Power Band is [[DownplayedTrope vermilion]] with a yellow horizontally-stretched eight-point star.
* RedIsViolent: Possesses a vermilion scarf as well as plenty of courage and combat prowess.
* RedOniBlueOni: Always ready for a fight and not tolerating anyone who stands in his way, making him the Red Oni to Alesia's Blue Oni, on account of her greater fear level and refusal to put herself in danger unless there's a good reason.
* TheRunaway: He and Popplio ran away from Nispet Village together to form their R.E.E.D. team.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: Disobeys the shiny Braviary twin by pursuing the Klefki bandits.
* SergeantRock: Certifies his hardass nature by straight-up telling Alesia to bugger off if she's too scared to face whatever's insides Rusted Complex.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: The Manly Man to Popplio's Sensitive Guy.
* SoreLoser: After Team Guile beat Team Everlasting to defeating Cacturne, Riolu spends the rest of the evening furiously rambling about their wasted time and effort (presumably because of all the trouble he went through).
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Mega Donuts. He was saving one for dinner after saving Phantump from Sunlight Chasm, but one thing after another happens and he doesn't get to eat it, [[LostFoodGrievance much to his dismay]]. According to Popplio, he once ate no less than ''fourteen'' of them.
* TookALevelInKindness: After he and Alesia have a heart-to-heart at the end of ''True Colors'', he promises to treat her with more respect.
* YouthIsWastedOnTheDumb: Going to Cutthroat Maze without his teammates.

Riolu's best friend and a member of Team Everlasting. [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} He's a little different in the head]], but a valuable member of the team and a great guy.
----
* ADayInTheLimelight: In ''A Chapter that is Very Legitimate'', he takes the place of main character Charlie Bucket and is the one who wins the factory at the end.
* AmbiguouslyGay:
** Gladly accepts a [[IKissYourHand kiss on the fin]] from Green Kecleon.
** His fury at discovering Cacturne has been returning used clothes for a full refund seems to indicate a high level of respect for fashion...
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: Gets distracted from the sight of Marble Cavern by using his hardhat to catch falling berries from a tree.
* BerserkButton: [[FelonyMisdemeanor Minor offenses such as interrupting dinner or returning used clothes for a refund.]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Just because he's the nicest member of the team doesn't make him any more tolerant of criminals.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: He in no way neglects his duties, and will fight anyone who threatens the peace of the Pokémon world.
* BlueIsHeroic: Exaggerated; nearly all of his body is blue and he has a light blue ruff around his neck. His Special Band, however, is purple and lavender [[EnforcedTrope so as not to blend in with his body]].
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Just as competent as any conventional R.E.E.D. team member.
* CaptainObvious: At the end of ''Climbing the Ranks'', when Riolu is ranting about how pissed off he is about losing an outlaw to a different team, Popplio helpfully tells Alesia, "Don't mind him, he's just a little mad right now."
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: More hyperactive in earlier chapters, and as the story continues, fewer of his sentences end in exclamation marks.
* CheerfulChild: Just barely counts; he's seventeen years old, so if he was even so much as a year older, he wouldn't qualify for this trope.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Riolu, who got Popplio interested in his dreams of forming a R.E.E.D. team and was always there for him in spite of his [[AbusiveParents troubles]].
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Gives the occasional NonSequitur and [[TheCuckoolanderWasRight deduces]] that an outlaw has been pulling the "wear once, return next day" trick on multiple clothing items and is furious about it. Lampshaded in the very first chapter:
--> Riolu knew better than to try and use conventional logic on his companion.
** Reconstructed in that his parents and Riolu's question his competence, but Riolu knows him well enough to have confidence in him, and Popplio [[BunnyEarsLawyer proves to be very useful]].
* {{Cloudcuckoolanguage}}:
** In ''A Mutual Cause'', he yells, "Take that!" ''before'' using an attack when he should have either attacked beforehand or said "Take this!". Later in the same chapter, he mispronounces "score" as "scoe".
** In ''Lights Out'', he opens a book only to discover that the pages are damaged to the point of unreadability, and tells Alesia that "the pages don't work anymore".
* CombatPragmatist: Deals with the ringleader of the Klefki bandits by hitting her with a branch.
* CommanderContrarian: Inverted; he's almost always willing to do whatever Riolu says. The sole exception was his hesitation to leave Nispet Village behind, which he caved in and did anyway.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Spent his entire childhood being told he was worthless and couldn't be of any use to anyone.
* EtTuBrute: The boat ride in ''A Chapter that is Very Legitimate'' [[ImpliedTrope implies]] that his worst fear is his friends abandoning him.
* FriendsAreChosenFamilyArent: Riolu was always there for him growing up, and he considers Lapras and Alesia to be good friends too, but his parents treated him like dirt.
* ExtremeOmnivore: [[AllJustADream At least in his dreams]], where he throws aside an apple, [[BaitAndSwitch but takes a bite out of the branch it was attached to]].
* FriendToAllChildren: Very comforting of Phantump when they find him alone in Sunlight Chasm.
* HandicappedBadass: Definitely a downplayed example. In this case the "handicap" is that he lacks back legs (as is standard for his species). Despite this, he can move as fast as his teammates, far faster than the average Popplio, and even climb ladders. Justified in that he and Riolu spent a lot of their childhood training to eventually become a R.E.E.D. team, and as seen in ''Second Interlude'', their training regimen set by Riolu included ladder-climbing.
* HatesBeingAlone: He's unhappy in ''Unexpected Approval'' when he, Riolu, and Alesia have to split up to search for Phantump.
* TheHeart: The sweetest member of the team, and judging by his [[OcularGushers crying]] over Alesia and Trevenant making up, he's in touch with his emotions too.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Riolu.
* HiddenDepths: Dabbles in foreign languages with some help from the shiny Braviary twin.
* HyperAwareness: Case in point, he looks at the picture of Cacturne on a poster where said criminal is wearing a hat, notices the label of a clothing chain called ''Flaaffy Fashions'', finds out that the three towns Cacturne robbed the banks of all have a ''Flaaffy Fashions'' store, and figures out that Cacturne must have been purchasing hats to wear once before getting a refund.
* InnocentBlueEyes: Inverted; he's very kind and sweet, but nearly all of his body ''except'' his eyes is blue.
* JerkassBall: Clearly witnesses Wigglytuff hit Chatot with his cane in ''A Chapter that is Very Legitimate'' and doesn't do anything about it. As with all the [[OutOfCharacterMoment Out-of-Character Moments]] in this chapter, this is part of a scripted performance ''and'' non-canon.
* {{Keet}}: Fairly [[{{Pun}} bubbly]] and energetic.
* LargeHam: Performs a happy dance at the prospect of going for a swim in ''Digging for Truth'' and gasps for four seconds straight in ''Climbing the Ranks''.
* LikeFatherUnlikeSon: Where Popplio is nice to just about everyone, [[AbusiveParents his parents]] are mercilessly cruel to him.
* LoonWithAHeartOfGold: His Cloudcuckoolander and Nice Guy traits combine into this.
* MoralityChain: Riolu can become nicer thanks to the company of his friend.
* NiceGuy: Just don't commit crime (whether that's arson, robbery, or returning used clothes) and you'll stay on his good side.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: Alesia wakes up on the morning of her third day in the Pokémon world to see Popplio's face pressed up against hers. He also grabs her and pulls her close to him to say, "Do you realize what this means?!" in ''Answers, Please?'' when she remembers something about her human life.
* NumberTwo: Team Everlasting's second-in-command.
* [[PluckyGirl Plucky Boy]]: He's friendly, kind, prepared to face danger, and [[LoonWithAHeartOfGold wonderfully weird]].
* ThePollyanna: Downplayed; back in Nispet Village, he was tormented by his emotionally abusive parents, and does not take kindly to lawbreakers, but aside from that is generally optimistic and nice to others.
* ThePrankster: Pretends to be a Sharpedo in ''Climbing the Ranks''. Riolu is used to the trick and isn't fooled for a second, but Alesia shrieks and jumps out of the water.
* PrimaryColorChampion: Downplayed; is blue and has a pink nose.
* PurpleIsPowerful: The color of his Special Band.
* TheRunaway: At Riolu's encouragement, he ran away from Nispet Village so he and Riolu could form their R.E.E.D. team.
* SadClown: A somewhat literal example, given part of the inspiration behind his species' design. ''Second Interlude'' reveals he had emotionally abusive parents.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: The Sensitive Guy to Riolu's Manly Man.
* SweetSeal: It's hard to make him dislike you.
* SuperNotDrowningSkills: When he and his teammates are bathing, he swims around beneath the surface for long periods of time, and it's noted in ''Second Interlude'' that he had lots of swimming practice. Justified in that he's not only a Water-type, but based on a real life animal that lives partly underwater.
* WhiteSheep: It takes some encouragement, but he runs away from his cruel parents with Riolu.
* WideEyedIdealist: While he evidently has experience with the evils of the world, he still mostly prefers to look at the good in everyone and everything.
* WorkHardPlayHard: In his spare time from R.E.E.D. work, he plays practical jokes, performs tricks with his ability to blow bubbles, and takes the opportunity to watch a movie in Kaia Town.
* YesMan: To Riolu, letting him take up the reins of team leader and following his plans.

Twin brothers, distinguishable from each other by their colors. The normal Braviary is the head of Izolo Village and runs the courthouse, and the shiny Braviary lives there with him.
----
* ADayInTheLimelight: They are the focus of the chapter ''So Proud and So Brave''.
* AFatherToHisMen: They're both encouraging of Team Everlasting.
* AngerBornOfWorry: The shiny twin is not amused with Team Everlasting for going after the Klefki bandits (who have been seen to possess explosives) by themselves.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Inverted with the shiny twin. He tries to be respected and put on a serious demeanor, but proves not to be very good at the job he's doing to cover for his sibling.
* CoolOldGuy: They're both well-meaning. The worst thing the shiny twin did was give Alesia a guilty verdict, but he was just trying to do his job.
* EnemyEatsYourLunch: Inverted; the shiny Braviary twin is on the protagonists' side, but mistakenly eats Riolu's Mega Donut. He makes up for it by giving them more points.
* FictionalDisability: The shiny twin has a broken wing, preventing him from flying. This can happen to birds in real life, but it's considered a disability here because Pokémon in this story's world are sapient and have their own society.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: The shiny and normal twin respectively. Before the start of the story, the normal one left his brother in charge of Izolo Village, meaning the latter is the one to oversee Alesia's court session and mistakenly give her a guilty verdict.
* GeniusCripple: The shiny twin is well-versed in foreign languages in spite of his broken wing.
* HiddenDepths: The shiny twin is revealed to have been tutoring Popplio in foreign languages. On top of that, an assault five years ago left him unable to fly.
* HidingTheHandicap: Quite a bit of time passes before the shiny twin reveals to Popplio that he cannot fly.
* NationalAnimalStereotypes: Their species is based off the eagle, which is the emblem of the United States and symbolizes strength and freedom.
* OneSteveLimit: Averted.
* PaletteSwap: They can be identified by their different colors.
* TokenMinority: The shiny twin is the only shiny Pokémon in the story so far.
* TwoferTokenMinority: The shiny twin also has a disability meaning he cannot fly.

Run the Kecleon Shop in Izolo Village.
----
* AmazonChaser: Purple Kecleon wishes to dance with Kangaskhan, who is over twice his height.
* AmbiguouslyBi: Green Kecleon gives Popplio and Alesia a kiss on the fin/paw.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Green Kecleon is overjoyed to see his brother again and gives Team Everlasting and Gallade a hefty reward for his return.
* TheBusCameBack: In a sense with Purple Kecleon. The hub towns in ''Rescue Team'' and ''Explorers'' have both a green and a purple Kecleon, but ''Gates'' and ''Super'' only have a Green Kecleon. Only a green Kecleon is present when Izolo Village is first introduced, but then it turns out next chapter that there is a purple Kecleon who is trapped in Rusted Complex.
* DistressedDude: Green Kecleon asks Team Everlasting to save Purple Kecleon from Rusted Complex.
* IKissYourHand: When Team Everlasting accept the mission to go save Purple Kecleon from Rusted Complex, Green Kecleon kisses Alesia and Popplio on the paw and fin respectively (he tries to do the same to Riolu but [[DefiedTrope he lifts his paw away in time]]) in gratitude. The former is not amused but the latter doesn't mind. This is, of course, PlayedForLaughs.
* OneSteveLimit: Averted.
* PaletteSwap: They can be identified by their different colors.

Runs the Kangaskhan Storage facility in Izolo Village.
----
* BigBeautifulWoman: For such a stocky Pokémon, she gets a lot of attention from several of the male residents of the village.
* DudeMagnet: At the party in ''Digging for Truth'', Purple Kecleon, Gallade, and the shiny Braviary twin all want to dance with her.
* GoodParents: Is clearly trying to protect her baby while hiding in Ambient Cave from the bank robbers.
* HystericalWoman: Is one of the village residents who panics while hiding in Ambient Cave from the bank robbers.
* [[KavorkaMan Kavorka Woman]]: A Kangaskhan is far from what would be considered conventionally attractive, yet three residents of Izolo Village all want to dance with her.
* TeamMom: Like both Kangaskhan in [[VideoGame/PokemonMysteryDungeonRescueTeam the first]] [[VideoGame/PokemonMysteryDungeonExplorers two games]], she acts motherly to Team Everlasting, such as giving them pickaxes and hardhats to borrow for their mission in Marble Cavern.

Runs the [[NonIndicativeName Wobbuffet Dojo]] in Izolo Village and accompanies Team Everlasting to Rusted Complex to save Purple Kecleon.
----
* ADayInTheLimelight: He accompanies Team Everlasting to Rusted Complex to save Purple Kecleon, but has a lesser role in the story after that.
* ButtMonkey: His situation with Wobbuffet Dojo is used for humor value.
* HiddenDepths: As it turns out in ''In a Rich 'Mon's World'', he plays the banjo in his spare time.
* TheMentor: Team Everlasting seek his assistance for Alesia's first adventure.
* NiceGuy: He helps Alesia on her first mission, but is far nicer to her about it than Riolu.

Runs a bookstore in Izolo Village. An Eevee stole a book from him then ran away, and when he and Alesia first meet, he is convinced she was responsible.
----
* TheAtoner: Helps out Team Everlasting at times after he drops his belief that Alesia stole from him.
* DarkIsNotEvil: He's not ''evil'', just extremely unkind to people he suspects of stealing from his store.
* [[EvenEvilHasLovedOnes Even Jerkasses Have Loved Ones]]: Loves his son very much.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Gallade secretly discloses to Team Everlasting that Trevenant is unpopular in Izolo Village. No one else believes Alesia stole from him (even the shiny Braviary twin isn't one hundred percent sure).
* GoodParents: Offers a large reward of 1,000 Poké to whoever returns his missing son to him.
* HeelFaceTurn: Becomes far less antagonistic to Alesia after she, Popplio, and Riolu rescue his son.
* {{Jerkass}}: Gallade even discloses to Team Everlasting that Trevenant is somewhat unpopular amongst the village.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He clearly loves his son, and Team Everlasting bringing said son back is enough for him to drop his grudge against them.
* ParentsAsPeople: He owns a bookstore, will pursue anyone he thinks is stealing from it to the fullest extent of the law, and has ties with the National Pokémon History Bureau.

Trevenant's son.

Braviary's right-hand Pokémon.
----
* DeadpanSnarker: Gets a quip in at Trevenant's expense during Alesia's court session.
* DropInCharacter: Several chapters go by without him appearing.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: He makes a mistake with updating the bulletin board, which results in Team Everlasting making a long journey for nothing, prompting Riolu to attempt revenge on Team Guile.

The leader of Team Guile.
----
* BadBoss: Leaves Steenee to save Riolu on her own because there isn't a cash reward in it for them.
* {{Jerkass}}: Refuses to help Steenee save Riolu, or assist Alesia and Popplio in carrying
Riolu.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: He wants to focus on saving Furret... but only because there's a reward, which is why he isn't bothered about saving Riolu.
* MeaningfulName: His species name is derived from "tyrant". He is a cruel, harsh leader to Steenee, threatening to evict her from his team (which would leave her family without a source of income) if she does not comply with his illicit plans.
* OverlordJr: Downplayed. He is revealed to be the son of a Aurorus who causes trouble for Team Everlasting by forbidding them to take an easy route home because part of it is privately-owned by him. Tyrunt himself is a jerk and even a bully to Steenee.
* PrivilegeMakesYouEvil: In addition to being wealthy thanks to his father, he refuses to help others unless there's a reward in it for him.
* RichKids: Is the son of a wealthy Aurorus.

The other member of Team Guile.
----
* BeleagueredAssistant: Tyrunt puts her through a lot of crap.
* NiceGirl: Welcoming to Team Everlasting (although granted she doesn't know about Riolu's plan).
* NumberTwo: Tyrunt's second-in-command. He is not kind to her because of this, such as when he refuses to help her save Riolu, and bullies her into following Seviper's plan.
* PromotedToParent: She works to send money home to her bedridden mother and infant sister.
* ScrewTheMoneyIHaveRules: Tyrunt refuses to help get Riolu out of Cutthroat Maze since there's no reward being offered, so Steenee does it all by herself.
* SecondaryColorNemesis: Subverted; from how she and Tyrunt beat an outlaw before Team Everlasting can, and the part featuring Team Guile in the next chapter, one might get the impression she's going to be an antagonist, but she actually turns out to be very nice.

Tyrunt's wealthy father.
----
* ActionDad: Inverted; his son Tyrunt is the one who has left and formed a R.E.E.D. team while Aurorus stays at home in his luxury beach house.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: He seems nice and polite at first. Then he forces Team Everlasting to take a dangerous route home, and threatens to mail a fine to their home if they do not comply.
* IdleRich: First seen living in his beach house with servants bowing to his whim.
* ObstructiveBureaucrat: A section of Scorched Passage is privately-owned by him, enabling him to forbid Team Everlasting from using that route home and force them to instead go through Hollow Scarp, where wild Steelix live.
