* LargeHam: In her introductory scene, she tries very hard to sound like the hard-hitting reporters you see on TV. Instead, it comes off as embarassing.

* AccessoryWearingCartoonAnimal: Detective Pikachu wears a nice deerstalker cap, and nothing else. As he notes, he doesn't have a Modest nature (It's probably Sassy, given his love for bitter-flavored coffee and snarky comments).

* AdaptationalNationality: He's British (Galaran?) in the movie, while the English dub of the game portrays him with an American (Unovan?) accent.

* EvilBrit: She has a very distinct British (Galaran) accent and a chilling lack of morality.

* HelpfulMook: A rare Pokémon example. When Tim is clearly dousing him with gas through pantomime, Pikachu keeps getting Tim's answers wrong to the point that he breifly drops character and had to help explain what Tim was doing.

* BondVillainStupidity: [[spoiler:Once he gains control of Mewtwo's body, he leaves his original body unprotected with Ditto being there as his backup and plain sight instead of gaining control of the Legendary Pokémon's body remotely. Once Tim takes care of Ditto, he removes the neural link from his head which allows Mewtwo to regain control of himself.

* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Half her hair is pinkish-purple as well as her eyebrows. [[spoiler:It's a hint at her true nature.]]

* {{Foreshadowing}}: [[spoiler:The fact that his penthouse is filled with statues of the Pokémon that created the world is, in hindsight, a clear reference to his god complex]].

* AdaptationalPersonalityChange: In the game, he's a friendly character who's [[spoiler:[[BitchInSheepsClothing revealed to be the]] BigBad]]. In the film, he's the inverse: a smug {{Jerkass}} who's [[spoiler:''assumed'' to be the BigBad, but turns out to be GoodAllAlong]].

* FingerlessGloves: Wears a pair of long rubber pink-purple gloves that show off her fingers.

* SpeaksFluentAnimal: Being a Pikachu, he can talk to other Pokémon, similar to the ''VideoGame/PokemonMysteryDungeon'' series.

* BunnyEarsLawyer: As seen while his mind is inhabiting Detective Pikachu, he's a MotorMouth ManChild with a tendency to [[DeadpanSnarker snark at everything and everyone in sight]] and an almost crippling addiction to [[MustHaveCaffeine]]. Doesn't change the fact he's undeniably one of ''the'' best investigators in all of Ryme City. That's not even getting into the fact that he tracked down ''and'' capture a '''Mewtwo''' of all things sometime before the events of the movie.

* BunnyEarsLawyer: As seen while his mind is inhabiting Detective Pikachu, he's a MotorMouth ManChild with a tendency to [[DeadpanSnarker snark at everything and everyone in sight]]. Doesn't change the fact he's undeniably one of ''the'' best investigators in all of Ryme City. That's not even getting into the fact that he tracked down '''Mewtwo''' of all things sometime before the movie.

* MixedAncestry: Tim's mother was black, and his father is white.

* AdaptationalBadass: At least in comparison to the games, where Payduck, as a pre-evolution, has mediocre stats (its best being a none-too-stellar 65 Special Attack) and no bonus on Psychic-type moves since it's a pure Water-type. In this movie, it manages to knock out multiple Greninja (admittedly a bit of a GlassCannon, but its '''worst''' stat is still above Psyduck's '''best''' in the games) in one attack. It is, however, mostly consistent with Psyduck's portrayal in the anime.

* [[spoiler:BigGood]]: [[spoiler:Of all things. Even though we're led to assume the opposite, it actually acts as the greatest source of good in the movie - it saves the life of Harry and his Pikachu on different occasions, and pushes the direly-needed ResetButton in the aftermath of Howard's evil plan.]]

* AdaptationalBadass: Ditto in the main series has never been as badass as [[spoiler:Ms. Norman, who can shapeshift into many different Pokémon at will and do so in seconds, gaining all their powers for it. It's fairly obvious when it fights Tim during the climax that it's just playing with him and could easily end the fight any time it wanted.]]

* PsychicPowers: Obviously, considering it's the strongest and most famous Psychic type Pokémon. It is telepathic and telekinetic and can fire some sort of EnergyBall. [[spoiler:It is also capable of healing the injuries of others and somehow converting humans to energy and combining them with Pokémon. This last ability, however, requires that the higher cognitive functions of the Pokémon's brain be suppressed first (leaving them with no memory for the duration of the merger). Mewtwo can do this on its own to some extent (as it does with Harry's Pikachu), but using the R drug to enrage them first allows the human to retain their memories.]]

* EvilBrit: She has a very distinct British accent and a chilling lack of morality.

* AdaptationalNationality: He's British in the movie, while the English dub of the game portrays him with an American accent.

* RaceLift: Tim was a Caucasian young man in the original video game. Here he is played by Afro-American actor Justice Smith. [[spoiler:With Ryan Reynolds portraying his father, it means he's biracial in-universe.]]

* MeaningfulName: Ms. Norman is [[spoiler:a pseudonym for a Ditto that pretends to be a normal human, it is also a reference to Ditto's Pokemon type: Normal]].

Sebastian's prized Pokemon.

* GoodScarsEvilScars: Is the Pokemon partner of an illegal fight club battler and bears a nasty electric burn scar on its face.

* WorldsStrongestMan: Described as the most powerful Pokemon in the world by the BigBad. [[spoiler:It's interesting to note that this is a setting that acknowledges Arceus. Justified because it can still be the most powerful in the world, but not the universe.]]

* InstantAwesomeJustAddDragons: Its appearance marks the first real Pokemon battle in the whole film. Charizard is later on the receiving end of this when Magikarp evolves into Gyarados and wipes it out.

* {{Expy}}: He is written is very similarly to [[spoiler:Judge Doom from Film/WhoFramedRogerRabbit.]]
