* ItsAllMyFault: Ash secretly blamed himself for putting Pikachu and his Kalos Pokémon endanger, after the events of the Team Flare crisis when he unknowingly revealed his Bond Phenomenon ability to the leader of the organization. Through those events, Ash not only decided to keep Goodra and Greninja in Kalos while keeping Hawlucha, Noivern and Talonflame in Professor Oak lab so he would't put them endanger again but also to never mention his Bond Phenomenon ability to anyone else unless its someone he can trust. Although he doesn't want to put Pikachu endanger like that again, Ash would rather have his partner and best friend stay with him as he tries harder than ever to keep him safe.

** After losing to Wulfric and seeing how badly hurt Greninja got, Ash ''really'' hits a low point. The episode actually ends as a DownerEnding, and the next episode preview is also mostly silent. It's also implied Ash has struggles with the idea he may not be the right trainer to bring out Greninja's true potential, which is a new for Ash as no matter what has happened previously, he never questioned his bonds with his Pokémon before.

* HeroicRematch: This is the general theme for whenever he faces his main rival in a region. Ash never wins a Pokémon battle against them before they battle in the League of that region (the best he can hope for is a Draw, though he can win against them in coomptetions that ''aren't'' battle based). This is done to slowly build up their rivaly and Ash's desire to win, until they finally clash one final time in the League and Ash claims victory. The only exception to this was against [[spoiler:Alain]], who Ash never managed to beat, even in the League.

* FigureItOutYourself: Almost towards the end of the Sun & Moon series, Ash was stuck on what's next for him, due to finishing his Island Challenge and the Pokémon League was over. Although he did think about catching some more Pokémon, Ash asked Professor Kukui for an idea but he told him that he should figure it out for himself, much to his frustration. When asked by Olivia about his plans, Ash answers her by telling that he should figure it out on his own but did listen to her words about seeing the world. After thinking about what Olivia said and realizing his Alola journey was coming to an end, Ash not only decided to continue his journey to become a Pokémon Master but also fingered out his next step in order to make that happen by going back out and seeing the world. Also, Ash realized that the world still had more awesome things for him and Pikachu to see along with more Pokémon.
