** {{Wrath}}. All of his motives stem from his burning hatred of Toads. So much so that it turns into poison during the final phase of his fight. The entire game could have been avoided had he got someone to read what the note that made him go mad actually said, which he realizes as he dies.

* AllForNothing:
** Everything started when he saw himself with a scribble on his paper. It isn't until the end when Olivia reads it out loud that Olly learns that he was rampaging for nothing; the scribble was a simple wish for him to be a wise and kind king.

* AllForNothing: Downplayed, while her goal of turning Olly to the side of good worked, she [[AccidentalMurder accidentally mortally wounded him]] [[RedemptionEqualsDeath prior to this]].

* HeroicSacrifice: To undo all the damage her brother had done to the world she uses her wish to undo all of Olly's origami, which also includes her. Like Bobby, she doesn't come back.

* AscendedMeme: The fandom has a rather burning dislike of how all the [=NPCs=] ''Paper Mario'' games after ''Super'' are same-y Toads, leading to a good number of jokes. Come ''Origami King'' and its titular antagonist, it's no longer a joke: King Olly has a seething hatred of his Toad creator and sees his face on all other Toads wherever he goes, driving him to [[FinalSolution erase them all]].

* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: A blond-haired king who wants to make a kingdom in his own image who decides that the best thing is to ''commit genocide on a race of peaceful denizens''? [[ANaziByAnyOtherName Yeah]]...

* FinalSolution: His axe to grind is a [[BreakingOldTrends surprising first]] for the series: he's not after Peach, Bowser and his army, or even the Mario Bros., his grudge is against all ''Toads''. Because his creator whom he believed slighted him was a Toad, and because [[YouAllLookFamiliar Toads are a race of near-identical people]], Olly's means of reconciling this situation is to use the 1,000 Crane wish to wipe out all Toads '''[[PutThemAllOutOfMyMisery everywhere]]'''.

* HeroKiller: Once he's folded 999 cranes and Mario's shown up to become the thousandth and final, Olly has no reason to keep Peach around any more -- so he folds her into part of his castle. While Mario manages to defeat Stapler just moments before confronting Olly, which frees the Folded Soldiers, Peach has already been integrated into the castle, thus it's too late for her. Only through the very wish that Olly was attempting the 1,000-Crane Technique for is Peach able to be restored through wholesale wishing all of Olly's handiwork undone.

** While he somewhat has a point about all Toads looking the same, his creator, the Origami Craftsman, is one of the few Toads that does stand out, being differentiated by his outfit.

* InvoluntaryShapeshifting: They've become this way by all being forcibly folded against their will, and as one of the first thing Olivia says to you makes clear, they can't be saved. [[spoiler:Except she isn't aware they've been invisibly stapled shut into these forms.]]

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutCome: All of the stats and defense boosters of Mario's equipment are temporarily turned off for this battle. Scissors's blades are a OneHitKO no matter what Mario has equipped, because just like in the real world, scissors don't care what kind of equipment made from paper is being worn, it's still paper, and a piece of cake for a pair of scissors to cut. One of the Hammer Bros afterwards even marvels that "paper breaks scissors" for the first time.

* AmbiguousGender: It's not really clear what their genders are (or if they even have genders at all), thanks to the fact that the game uses multiple pronouns when addressing them, even on their trophies. Maybe [[{{Averted}} averted]] with Colored Pencils, as his trophy is the only one to use male pronouns.

* ADogNamedDog: Subverted. He calls himself Bob-omb, like his species, but is later nicknamed [[ALizardNamedLiz Bobby]] by Olivia.

* OurDragonsAreDifferent: The Water Vellumental is a massive, blue Western dragon with hydrokinetic powers and a fin at the end of its tail.
