* BigBrotherInstinct: Has one towards Odachi, whom he scolds when she nearly falls to the ground when trying to climb up and see him.

* TheFriendNoOneLikes: No one particularly enjoys Maindo's {{Jerkass}} attitude, and they mostly put up with him because he's one of the strongest Pokémon in the group.

** Not only that, he could've simply ''asked'' to be released, and while Saito would've been sad, he would've complied as he doesn't want a Pokémon to be on his team if they don't want to be.

* UnskilledButStrong: Maindo starts off as one of the strongest members of the team but he never actively trains to improve his skills or power. Eventually the rest of the team surpasses him but he fails to notice [[spoiler:until they give him a beatdown for hurting Louise]].

* PrincessesRule: After her father's untimely death, Henrietta's mother, Queen Marianne, fell into a deep depression. As such, Henrietta was forced to jump into the role of ruling the country in her stead, something she was not prepared for in the slightest. She is trying to learn as fast as she can, but so far the reception has been mixed, with even her biggest allies, the Vallières, viewing her as naïve and foolish, unfit to lead and only followed out of loyalty to the crown, not herself.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Tries her best to be this, and to her credit she does make some very sound decisions such as keeping Louise's Void Mage status a state secret in order to protect her. At the exact same time, however, her age and inexperience often leads her to making more emotionally-driven decisions.

* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Her hair color is pink. Unlike other examples, in the Pokémon world this is nothing special.

* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Henrietta's hair is a deep purple, which isn't out of place on either Earth or Terre.

The current Princess of the Kingdom of Tristain, and Louise's best friend and childhood playmate. Upon receiving word of Louise's disappearance at the Tristain Academy of Magic, Henrietta made her way over to lend her assistance, only to end up getting taken to Kalos by Mew following a failed attempt to bring Louise back with a spell.

The main character of the story, whose attempt at summoning a creature catches the direct attention of Arceus himself, who sends her to the world of Pokemon to prove her worth.

* BreakTheHaughty: Her loss to Viola did this to her. Louise entered the battle thinking that, simply because both of her Pokemon had type advantage over Viola's Bug-type Pokémon, she'd be able to easily beat her. She ends up getting her entire team completely wiped out by Viola's Surskit, teaching her not to rely purely on type advantage and instead actually train and incorporate strategy into her battles.

* RoseHairedSweetie: As she continues her Pokemon Journey through Kalos, maturing along the way, she develops into a genuinely kind, sweet, and affectionate person to the people and Pokemon she cares about. She still has a temper, though.

* WrongContextMagic: A combination of her Void magic, along with residual energy from traveling across Ultra Space into Kalos, results in any Mega Stone that has had extended and prolonged contact with her acting as though she were a Keystone. This allows for any Mega Evolution-capable Pokemon to undergo the phenomenon, potentially to disastrous results.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Her hair color is pink. Unlike other examples, in the Pokemon world this is nothing special.

* ActionGirl: Nearly all of Louise's Pokemon are girls, and are more than capable of holding their own in a battle.

Louise's Starter Pokemon, a Shiny Fennekin she received from Professor Sycamore when she was tasked with delivering a package to Viola in Santalune City, thus putting her on her path to competing in the Pokemon League.

* EverythingsBetterWithSparkles: Is a Shiny Pokemon. Prior to meeting Louise, however, it caused her no end of trouble on account of all the collectors who wanted to have her.

* MundaneUtility: As a Fire-type Pokemon, Brennaraki can launch massive blasts of flame at her opponents, create walls of fire to encircle the foe, or shroud themselves with a blaze to add to her strength. She can also light campfires.

The second Pokemon Louise caught while on her journey. A heavy eater, Aile didn't think much of Louise at first, but after Louise risked her life to keep Aile safe from a swarm of Beedrill, her opinion shifted and she became a loyal, if still gluttonous, flier.

* FragileSpeedster: Is a very fast and agile Pokemon, but cannot take much of a hit.
* JerkassRealization: Has this following their escape from a swarm of angry Beedrill, something that only happened because she spent her time recklessly trying to eat some berries and accidentally got a Weedle injured. After almost getting them all killed, and having Louise try to protect her despite causing it, Aile realized that her previous actions were wrong and became a much more loyal and considerate Pokemon to Louise.

* TookALevelInKindness: Before she was caught by Louise, Aile was a very selfish Pokemon who attacked with her flock a swarm of Combee to try and get their honey. After getting caught, she still refused to listen to Louise without being bribed by food. Following their encounter with a swarm of Beedrill, she becomes a much nicer Pokemon after realizing how wrong she was. Still won't apologize for trying to get the Combee's honey, though.

The second Pokemon caught by Louise and third to join her team following a confrontation with a determined collector. A kind, gentle, and loyal Pokemon, Esprit quickly proved to a valuable addition to Louise's team who uses her powerful Psychic and Fairy-typings to great effect.

* BewareTheNiceOnes: While Esprit is genuinely one of the kindest and most considerate Pokemon you will ever meet, she becomes outright scary when angered. Something that Maindo, Tanuki, and Aile learn firsthand following Louise and Saito seemingly getting kidnapped by a swarm of Unown while the three Pokemon were off playing pranks. She forces them to help stage a rescue attempt, making Maindo teach her Teleport to get to them as fast as possible, and all three Pokemon can only so much as nod in agreement.
* TheEmpath: The Ralts line is able to sense people and Pokemon's emotions. Esprit is no exception.
* FriendToAllChildren: Loves playing and interacting with baby Pokemon, to the point where when they went to the Pokemon Daycare she even stayed behind to play with them more. [[spoiler: That was actually how she evolved into Kirlia, as she tried to protect the baby Pokemon from Team Flare's attempts to steal them.]]
* {{Foil}}: To her fellow Ralts/Kirlia on Saito's team, Maindo. While Maindo is a rude, self-centered, and arrogant Pokemon whom the others can barely tolerate at the best of times, Esprit is a kind, generous, and selfless Pokemon that the others genuinely like to be around.

* PsychicPowers: As a Psychic-type, this is to be expected. She uses these powers both in battle and also to communicate with her follow Pokemon. When she evolves into a Kirlia, her powers become strong enough for her to talk to Louise as well.
* PurityPersonified: Is easily the most polite and courteous Pokemon on Louise's team.

* {{Telepath}}: Communicates this way. Once she evolves into Kirlia, Esprit is even able to talk to Louise, and quickly begins acting as a translator between Louise and her Pokemon so that their trainer can know exactly what they're saying.

The fourth Pokemon to join Louise's team, Auspice is unique in that she sought out Louise rather than the two of them meeting by chance. As an Absol, Auspice is able to sense when disasters are near, and she can tell that Louise will be at the center of many in the near future. In an effort to try and avert them as they come, Auspice willingly joins Louise's team following their second encounter with Team Flare during their attempt to steal fossils from the Ambrette Town Museum of Natural History.

* BearerOfBadNews: As an Absol, can detect when disasters are about to occur. Saito spotting her at the Pokemon Daycare when they arrive is the first hint that something bad is about to happen, [[spoiler: a prediction that proves to be correct when Team Flare attacks that night.]] It happens again in Ambrette Town, where [[spoiler: she leads Saito and Louise to a robbery in progress by another Team Flare cell currently trying to steal fossils and the fossil revitalization equipment.]] It is after this event that Auspice joins Louise's team.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Is a Dark-type, yet is genuinely a noble Pokemon who wants to keep people safe. It's why she joined Louise's team in the first place.
* LightningBruiser: Is a very fast and sturdy Pokemon capable of dishing out tremendous amounts of damage.

The fifth addition to Louise's team. An easygoing Pokemon, Gène is able to easily go with the flow in any given situation, easily accepting that Louise is from another world upon being told for the first time.

* {{Determinator}}: One of the most determined Pokemon on Louise's team, best exemplified during her gym battle against Korrina and her Mega Medicham. When everyone else on Louise's team fell, Gène was able to stay standing and finish Medicham off, giving Louise the victory.
* FreakOut: Has a minor one when Louise takes him to an evolution stone emporium to see what type of Pokemon he might want to evolve into. While Louise didn't intend to make any decision that day, or even anytime soon, nonetheless Gène was still overwhelmed with so many options for an irreversible choice, giving him a panic attack. Luckily, Louise recognizes this immediately and pulls him out of the situation, comforting him by telling Gène that they don't have to make a decision until he is ready.
* MellowFellow: Easily the most chill Pokemon on Louise's team, able to accept and come to grips with nearly any situation he comes across.

* TheOneGuy: So far, the only male Pokemon on Louise's team.

A young boy from Unova who started his own Pokemon Journey around the same time Louise started hers. While they didn't start off on the right foot, he quickly becomes Louise's best friend and travelling companion as they both compete for the same goal: Pokemon League Champion.

* AdaptationalNationality: When taking into consideration the real-world inspirations for the various regions of Pokemon, with Generations I-IV being based off of areas of Japan. In ''Outsiders,'' his parents are from Kanto, while he himself was born in Unova, making him a Japanese-American by real-world standards rather than fully Japanese.

* BerserkButton: Harming Louise in any way eventually becomes this. This is brought to the forefront in the aftermath of Team Flare's attack on Cyllage City, where Louise was nearly killed by Toxapex venom and had her blood stolen by Team Flare Operatives pretending to be nurses. When he finds trackers embedded into their Pokedexes by said operatives, he gets so infuriated that he unjustifiably accuses Elizabeth Collette for what happened to Louise.
* BigBrotherMentor: Of a sort, given how he is only a year older than Louise herself. Given how Saito has grown up around Pokemon his entire life, he understandably knows a lot more about Pokemon and Pokemon Battling than Louise does. He often gives her advice on how best to training. As Louise has grown more used to Pokemon and developed her own battling strategy, he does his less and less in favor of a more equal exchange.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: While Saito is by no means dumb, he generally is a laid back, easygoing guy who's able to get along with almost anyone. But, at the same time, he is still a very competent Pokemon Trainer, and when sufficiently angered has no qualms in unleashing his full expertise.

* FriendlyRivalry: Technically has this with Louise, seeing as how both are competing for the same goal of becoming the Kalos region's Pokemon Champion, an position that obviously only one of them can hold.

* MeddlingParents: Saito wasn't able to start his Pokemon Journey, something that typically happens when they turn ten, until he was seventeen because his parents wouldn't let him. That and his family having to constantly move around due to his parents' jobs. This led to him growing self-conscious about not being able to take part in the adventures that his friends were, and when he was finally able to start his Journey in Unova, only to have to move again to Kalos and pick it back up, he went about it without looking back. He still loves his parents, though.

* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: Effectively gives this to Elizabeth after she challenges him to a Pokemon Battle after he unjustifiably accuses Elizabeth of Louise having her DNA stolen by Team Flare. As he is a much better trainer than Elizabeth can even hope to be, he completely demolishes her team without losing a single member until she's only left with a fully-evolved Machamp that doesn't even listen to her. Even then, he's still able to overcome the power gap and win the battle.

* TheFriendNoOneLikes: No one particularly enjoys Maindo's {{Jerkass}} attitude, and they mostly put up with him because he's one of the strongest Pokemon in the group.

* BadassAdorable: Not only is Louise cute, she both proves that her Void magic, when properly directed, can cause tremendous amounts of damage and also proves to be quite an effective Pokemon trainer.
* BadassBookworm: When it came to understanding magical theory, there was no one else in Louise's class that could rival her. This studious nature lent itself quite well to Louise once she arrived in Kalos, allowing her to pick up the basics and intricacies of Pokemon Battling easily.

This is due to the two of them being in a much different environment, one that effectively placed them on much more even footing while removing many of the exacerbating problems of Louise's home environment.

* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Heavily downplayed; Tanuki's pride sometimes leads him to disobey Saito's instructions, but Saito usually doesn't mind beyond mild annoyance. Later on, though, Wikistrom explains that Tanuki is actually subconsciously looking down on Saito, which comes as a shock to both of them. They subsequently make an effort to work on their teamwork, though Tanuki's hesitance to listen to Saito gets him quickly defeated in the Cyllage Gym.
