* OriginalCharacter / PragmaticAdaptation: Because we know next to nothing about her in canon, leaving tons of things for creative freedom. All we know about her canon personality is that she was idealistic (or at least a dreamer) like Hera. Here, well...

The only one that seems to genuinely support the Empire is Hera, with everyone else begrudgingly doing so because the alternative is getting executed or [[AFateWorseThanDeath worse]]. Plus, like in canon, it's better to be [[TrueCompanions together]] than alone.
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: A Twi'lek ISB Agent, an Inquisitor, an astromech, a Mandalorian cadet washout, a Lasat, and a Force-sensitive streetrat.

* MirrorUniverse: So far, they're the only people that have a change of sides in the story.

* ExtremeDoormat: She's more or less unwilling to refuse any order that the Empire gives her, no matter how awful, despite still being capable of recognizing what she's doing is evil. She also has shades of this towards ''Ahsoka'' in that, despite all of Barriss' verbal and physical hostility towards her, she's willingly giving up classified information to her without getting much of anything in return.

* WellIntentionedExtremist: She still thinks she's doing things that have to be done for the greater good.

* PosthumousCharacter: Dies offscreen sometime after Doriah and Xiaan reunite with the fleet.

Once a Jedi Padawan named Caleb Dume who was apprenticed to Depa Billaba, he changed his name to Kanan Jarrus after the rise of the Empire and stayed off their radar until he got involved with Hera Syndulla, unaware that she was an ISB agent. Unaware he was a Jedi, Hera unwittingly led him to a meeting with Darth Vader. Given a choice between dying and becoming an Inquisitor, Kanan chose the latter for Hera's sake.

* [[Foil]]: To Ahsoka. They're both Jedi who realized the corruption of the Jedi Order and the Republic it served, but Ahsoka rejected the Dark Side and is one of the Empire's greatest opponents while Barriss fell to the Dark Side and was twisted into the Empire's servant. She's also one to Kanan, as they're both former Jedi serving the Empire but Kanan did it out of love for Hera while Barriss did it out of a genuine desire to make a difference. They were also broken in opposite ways: Barriss was systematically stripped of her identity as a Jedi to the point where she refers to Kanan as the only Jedi in the Inquisition, while Kanan was constantly confronted with his identity as a Jedi because he had spent the last decade running away from it.
