* HeterosexualLifePartners: He is introduced as Boruto's best friend. The manga later says he develops this with Inojin.

* SuperiorSuccessor: He is as smart as Shikamaru, but with Temari's strength and chakra pool. While Shikamaru at his age often struggled to stretch his shadow due to chakra issues, Shikadai has little trouble using the jutsu and can even completely cover a large area with his shadow, something Shikamaru never has shown. He easily defeats one of the favorites to win the Chunnin Exams in Yodo and then has little trouble in defeating Boruto until the latter uses the Kote that Naruto had forbidden to create a huge number of Shadow Clones.

* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: Nearly gives one to Iwabee during an academic sparring session by putting the cocky older genin in a [[ChokeHolds vicious hold]] that even [[CombatReferee Shino]] couldn't break up. In his defense, Iwabee ''did'' say it would be [[RightWhatItSaysOnTheTin no-holds barred]], not realizing how far [[BlueAndOrangeMorality Mitsuki]] would take it. Boruto's scolding is the only thing that gets him to back off.

* TheStoic: Unlike Boruto and Sarada, he doesn't show his emotions much.

* ArtificialHuman: Revealed to have been [[spoiler:artificially made by Orochimaru. Later revealed he can't survie on food alone, and lives on different types of medicine probably prescribed to him.]]

* AdaptationExpansion: In the anime adaption of the movie, Shinki has been featured far more prominently, and has had several interactions with Boruto, expressing interest in him as a fellow son of a Kage.

* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: He's briefly seen defeating two of the new generation from Konoha in the Chunnin Exams: [[spoiler:Metal Lee and Chocho.]] Subverted in the anime, which shows the fights in full (though they're not very long regardless).

* TheWorfEffect: The novel seems to suggest she is perhaps the strongest and most talented on her team. So when [[spoiler:Shikadai]] is said to have easily defeated her, it only hyped his character up and showed how strong he was before his fight with Boruto.

* KnowWhenToFoldEm: [[spoiler:He gives up]] in his fight against Boruto after the latter [[spoiler: makes numerous shadow clones after Shikadai had him beat]]. Shikadai is later [[spoiler:declared the winner after it was revealed that Boruto was using a banned device and not his own abilities]].

* TheSmartGuy: He is the smartest of both Team Moegi and the six New Era Shinobi. His stats show that his intelligence stat is 180. Definitely Shikamaru's son.

* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: Kaguya had good intentions for her children and humanity before her MotiveDecay and of the entire clan while Toneri was motivated by misguided loyalty to his family. In contrast, Momoshiki has no higher goals than stealing power and has no care for his father figure or the rest of his clan. A mentality that the clan grooms the current generation to have.

* VillainTakesAnInterest: Takes a rief interest in Boruto's destiny upon seeing his future with the Byakugan, but prioritizes his mission first and foremost. [[spoiler:When he dies he becomes completely invested, hoping to see his cursed fate play out from the afterlife.]]
