* AffectionateNickname: A few of her classmates nickname her Yaomomo, as a portmanteau of her first and family names.

* DependingOnTheWriter: Yaoyorozu's characterization in the manga and the ''Smash!!'' comics is notably different in a few aspects. In the manga, her self-esteem issues are based on a variety of reasons and is expressed as a generalized feel of anxiety, but in the ''Smash!!'' comics, she is particularly ashamed and afraid of being a CuteClumsyGirl and has focused on correcting the "clumsy" aspect of her personality.

* CharacterTics: She has a constant habit of touching her chin in contemplation. She also can't seem to keep her tongue in her mouth, and has a habit of walking around bowlegged in a frog-like pose.

Tsuyu is at an advantage in water, but she's pretty good everywhere that doesn't have extreme temperatures or extreme dryness, but it still wound up being a plot point during the USJ Arc: She's phenomenally useful in water, but even she comments that she would've been worthless in other environments. This tips Midoriya off that they were split up at random and the League of Villains didn't know what their Quirks were.

* AbsoluteCleavage: Her hero costume's top is a shirt with a cut low enough to reach her midriff.

* Foil: To Tokoyami himself. Tokoyami is cool-headed, cooperative, and noble. Dark Shadow is either childish and sheepish, or bloodthirsty and unstable.

* PowersDoTheFighting: His Dark Shadow pretty much does all the fighting for him. [[CripplingOverspecialization This leaves him rather helpless in situations where he can't rely on his shadow]], and All Might suggests he work on his own body as well.
* {{Samurai}}: Present Mic actually calls him one, but whether or not he is or it's just part of his [[RuleOfCool "coolness"]] hasn't been explored. Tokoyami does have a very poetic and respectful way of speaking, graciously surrendered to Bakugou, and has an ''actual sword'' in his dorm room. All of which could imply that he's either the real deal or he's just cool like that.

* DarkIsEvil: While it is not inherently not evil, it becomes quite destructive when it gets out of Tokoyami's control, becoming a mass of shadows that tries to engulf him while attacking even those he consider friends.

* ACupAngst: She appears to be sensitive about her "modest" bust. [[ArentYouGoingToRavishMe She even got upset]] when [[LovableSexManiac Mineta]] went on a rant about the girls he wanted to peep on, and she was the only one who ''wasn't'' mentioned.

* AccompliceByInaction: Aizawa rips into the class for [[spoiler:knowing five students were attempting to rescue Bakugou and not doing anything to stop them]], and says that he would have expelled them all except the victim and the two who were unaware.

* HeroicSacrifice: Attempts to use himself as bait by firing his laser straight up into the sky to draw everyone's attention during the Provisional Hero License Exam Arc so Iida can run away after they're heavily outnumbered. [[spoiler:Luckily, [[BigDamnHeroes the remaining members of the class all converge on the laser to help.]]]]

* TheFaceless: As Hagakure is invisible all the time, her face has yet to be shown. One chapter of ''My Heroine Academia'' has the other girls desperately try to find a way to see what her face looks like. [[spoiler:According to Hagakure herself, she looks like Yang Guifei and Francis Xavier mashed together.]]

** She openly admits this characteristic in Chapter 99, but then reveals she subjects ''herself'' to the very same treatment in private. However, [[spoiler:being truthful with herself is especially painful, because she has to live with the shame of confessing to her own mistakes, and realizing her honesty actually makes things worse sometimes. When she works up the courage to tell everyone that her remarks were misguided, it also becomes clear that she had held back her real feelings, she couldn't live with herself]]. And getting all this out in open the is enough to make her cry buckets. [[GroupHug Fortunately, she had people who cared enough to instantly hold her and comfort her once she succumbed to her tears]].

* CryCute: When she cries, it causes her normally flat demeanor to completely vanish. It's best seen when Tsuyu had a very tearful breakdown in the middle of Chapter 99, feeling extremely ashamed about making cutting remarks towards her peers [[spoiler:when some of them wanted to go rescue Bakugou on their own after she warned them it would be highly irresponsible, only to learn they still did and not having the courage to join them on their rescue mission, blaming her original comments as the words of a coward]]. It is the first time she ''ever'' shows extreme emotion, and she looks so pitiful that a few of her closest classmates immediately crouch around her and hug her, causing her to break down into full sobs.

* NotSoStoic: Poor girl actually [[TenderTears cries]] in Chapter 99 when she expresses her feelings to [[spoiler:Bakugou's rescue squad]].
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: She's normally calm and very open with her thoughts. So when she expresses to [[spoiler:Bakugou's rescue squad]] that she doesn't know what to say to them regarding what happened and then starts ''crying'' due to her conflicted emotions, it really hammers in how heavy that arc affected everyone.

* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: When comparing herself to Todoroki, she considers him this. [[spoiler:The Final Exams Arc reveals that this is mutual, although both recognize that Todoroki is the more powerful one, he thinks that she is a far better leader and strategist than him.]]

* CryCute: During the final exams, tears well up in her eyes after she [[spoiler:receives a sincere compliment from Todoroki, showcasing his own recent CharacterDevelopment, after being very [[BrokenAce down in the dumps]]. She holds them back until the two of them pass their exam, and even has to hastily wipe them dry and compose herself because she finds it embarrassing and belittling to be seen crying]]. [[NoSocialSkills Todoroki humorously confuses the moment as Yaoyorozu being in pain and suggests that she can squeeze a pressure point on the bottom of her foot to relieve tension]].

* YoungerThanTheyLook: Like Iida, she has a very mature physique for a 15-year old. This actually comes in handy when they disguise themselves when [[spoiler:rescuing Bakugou]], because she looks much older as a result.

* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Due to injuries sustained during the Forest Training Camp Arc, she is one of only three students in Class 1-A who don't know about [[spoiler:Kirishima's insane plan to rescue Bakugou]], the others being Hagakure and [[spoiler:Bakugou himself]].

** He's usually a fairly secondary character, but during the Provisional Hero License Exam Arc, he gets a chapter all to himself, showcasing his new abilities and equipment, and personally saving Kirishima and Bakugou after [[spoiler:Shishikura turns them into meat blobs]].

* TookALevelInBadass: While his Quirk was recognized as very strong from the get go, its limited control and problematic drawbacks made his usefulness very limited, not helped by the fact that he was not very bright either. By the time of the Provisional Hero License Exam Arc, he is way more careful about his voltage limit and has gotten [[spoiler:equipment specifically to help with long-range attacks]]. During the training matches against Class 1-B, he also shows a more tactical approach to the situation, showing his strategic growth as well.

* AnArmAndALeg: [[spoiler:A villain severs one of his arms during the attack on the training camp.]] It leaves a nasty gash, but he comes out fine otherwise due to his Quirk. [[GoodThingYouCanHeal Good thing he can heal]].

* ADayInTheLimelight: Shouji gets a moment to shine fighting alongside Midoriya, [[spoiler:and helped with the rescue attempt to get the captured Bakugou and Tokoyami back from the villains]], during the Forest Training Camp Arc.

* NiceGuy: He's very kind-hearted and calm most of the time, guaranteeing Tokoyami he holds no grudge against him after [[spoiler:Dark Shadow goes on a rampage]], and even rescuing him. He's also one of the few students that seems to tolerate Mineta.

* {{Chuunibyou}}: He has a tendency to act like one through his gothic appearance and mystical flare. However, he subverts alot of the negative behaviors and he is a legitimate good-hearted and talented hero. It's something of a parody, since unlike most Chuunibyou, he really ''does'' have powers [[spoiler:and they really are dangerous and hard to control at times]].

** An out-of-control Dark Shadow brutally makes short work of [[spoiler:Moonfish]].

* {{Foreshadowing}}:
** In the first anime-exclusive OVA that takes place between Season 1 and 2, Tokoyami goes into a dark chasm to do rescue training, and remarks that he should still be able to control Dark Shadow. However, when he activates Dark Shadow, it behaves uncharacteristic to the obedient and silent manner seen beforehand; it mouths off to him and complains about being ordered around, reluctantly carrying out his commands. And ''then'' come Season 3, we see what happens once Dark Shadow goes berserk in the cover of absolute darkness.
** In Chapter 170, he is shown taking supplementary classes with the rest of the internship group despite not actually being shown to have done an internship. Sure enough, in Chapter 184, it's revealed that he interned with Hawks.

* InnocentlyInsensitive: Not knowing about Todoroki's AbusiveParents, Tokoyami tries to encourage Todoroki by relating to his duty as the student of the #1 and #2 heroes. Todoroki ends up thinking about horrible things Endeavor did [[spoiler:to him and his older brother in his attempts to force them both to learn a DangerousForbiddenTechnique as 5 year olds]]. He pretends to appreciate the support, [[HeroicBSOD but basically goes into a trance until Iida's enthusiasm snaps him out of it]].

* OddFriendship: He develops one with Midoriya after he opens up about [[spoiler:his disorder]].

* MysteriousWatcher: Ever since the end of the Internship Arc, Aoyama has been watching Midoriya in his sleep from the window and generally invading his personal space.
