The so-called "Hero of Ages", declared as such by Kwaan. Although he started off as an idealistic youth, but became cynical during his quest to defeat The Deepness. Although the prophecies said that he needed to give up the power at the Well of Ascension, he used it for himself instead, becoming the Lord Ruler.

* DirtyOldMan: Keeps a HUGE number of mistresses, which he prefers to be young. How young? Finds his mature but still beautiful mistress in her late 20's repulsive, and reminiscent about how she had been once beautiful...a decade ago.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: Dear God, does he have a bad case of this. The very idea of altruism is alien to him and he ascribes nefarious or selfish motives to ''everything'' that ''anyone ever does''. For example, the idea that somebody could save the life of another because they didn't want to see an innocent man die is an idea he finds both hilarious and stupid, too stupid to be what really happened (even though it basically was). The person in question was his son, Elend Venture. Vin had to save him from the assassins that Straff had sent [[OffingTheOffspring to kill him]].

In reality, Amaranta got Straff hooked on drugs, and she tricked him into thinking that drug withdrawal was a poisoning attempt. She's also Zane's mother.

* PhysicalGod: By [[spoiler:combining Allomancy, Feruchemy, and Hemalurgy]], he gained this status. Details given in ''Literature/WaxAndWayne'' make it clear that if he had been using his full power, no one would have ever lasted more than five seconds against him. If he had all 16 Allomantic metals, he could, among other things, [[SuperSpeed speed his body infinitely, speed his mind infinitely]], [[SuperStrength draw upon infinite reserves of strength]], [[HealingFactor draw upon infinite healing]], [[TheAgeless never age]], [[WindsOfDestinyChange draw upon infinite luck]], [[TheNeedless never need to sleep, and never need to eat, drink, or breathe]]. (Fortunately, he doesn't have access to the metals which allow him to compound Fortune, oxygen, and calories) And on top of all that, WordOfGod is that he had been using his allomancy for so long that he was either nearly or actually a savant with ''every'' metal. The only reason he didn't do most of those things is because he had been unchallenged for so long that he didn't see the need.
