The middle sister and a second-year middle schoolgirl, Kana is energetic, lively, and prone to acting and/or talking before thinking.

* ACupAngst: In episode 9 of the first season, the sisters try on each other's school uniforms. Haruka wears Kana's, and notes that it still fits, while Kana angrily tells her to just say that its tight around the chest. A moment later, Chiaki tries on Kana's uniform as well, and notes that skirt is a bit loose, while the area around the chest is a perfect fit. Kana doesn't take those comments too well.

* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Averted. She thought that Fujioka is a Banchou, who wants to challenge her, and she doesn't like him at first. Kana seems to realize that he's not a {{Delinquent}} and considers him more or less a friend. But in ''Tadaima'' episode 5, when Fujioka acts like he feels hot because he wants to get an invitation to eat noodles with Kana, she misinterprets his actions as {{Delinquent}}-like and becomes afraid of him, especially when it looks like that he's fighting with Akira, but Fujioka is just asking him for advice.

* TheGlomp: Well, this wasn't Kana's intention, but in episode 11 of season 2, she tells Chiaki she wants to have a final showdown with Fujioka. The latter tells her a secret move to use on him if all else fails. The next day, Kana confronts Fujioka and asks him why he calls her sisters by their first name, but her by last name. She tells him to call her "Kana-chan", but he turns around and says he's too shy to do that. She then utilizes Chiaki's "secret move", which was probably supposed to be a German suplex, but is unable to lift him. And to Fujioka, he completely misinterprets the move as this trope.

* HoistByHerOwnPetard: In episode 9, Kana forces Chiaki to stay up all night in an attempt to forcefully wake her up, much like the latter had done in an earlier scene. Chiaki gradually tells her sister [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech why she's such an idiot]], and says she'd write a ten thousand word essay, but doesn't have time for it. Both girls end up sleeping well into the afternoon after Kana kept forcing Chiaki to stay awake. A few days later, Chiaki wakes Kana up at night, and plops said essay down, and tells her to read it. When Kana attempts to go back to bed, Chiaki grabs her and drops her pants much in the same way Kana did to her in that earlier scene.

* LethalChef: Unlike most examples, she is fully aware of how bad her cooking is, and uses it as a threat to get Chiaki to help out.

** In sixth episode of ''Okaeri'', Kana has ruined Chiaki's summer. At the beginning of autumn, Chiaki strikes back and ruins her autumn. TemporalThemeNaming, isn't it?

* MiddleChildSyndrome: The ButtMonkey of the sisters who gets beaten up by her younger sister on a daily basis, and her older sister gets also sometimes mad at her. Additionally, Chiaki is never punished by Haruka for all the abuses she does to Kana.

** She is seemingly uneffected by brainwashing in episode 8 of ''Tadaima''.

** In the ValentinesDayEpisode of ''Okaeri'', Fujioka tries really hard to get chocolate from her, but his attempts to get sympathy always fails. Seeing how depressed he is, she gives him a chocolate bar, so he can get more energy, but Kana forgets that it's Valentine's Day.

* ACupAngst: She feels uneasy for her undevelopded bust size (well, she's a fifth-grader) and becomes jealous of Touma's growing bust.

Given that she wears the female school uniform, there is really not much room for doubt. Judging by the dialogue in that scene, it's apparently less that they don't know her gender and more that she is ''just that manly'', making this a weird mish-mash of EvenTheGuysWantHim and EvenTheGirlsWantHer. And Fujioka thinks, she's a boy.

* DistaffCounterpart: To Makoto/Mako-chan. Both more or less crossdress, but Touma, who is the girl, is much manlier than Makoto, while Mako-chan is girliert than Touma.

* SpearCounterpart: To Haruka as being the eldest son and the spring child.

** In ''Tadaima'', he accidently notices Hitomi's unbuttoned shirt. When she a asks him if he saw anything, he thinks she meant the snow in the morning and he tells her that he saw "everything" and what he thinks about "it", with a lot of unintentional DoubleEntendre, which drives Hitomi mad. A few minutes later, the same happens with Haruka, she asks him if she saw anything, but she really means the snow and not her exposed breasts because she doesn't notice it. Natsuki runs away and pretends that he didn't see anything. Following with Hitomi and Haruka meeting each other, the moment when Haruka notices that her own shirt is unbuttoned. The former tells the latter what Natsuki "thought" when he saw her breasts, with Haruka believing that Hitomi is talking about her.

* CannotSpitItOut: He tell his little sister that he loves her.
* {{Flanderization}}: He started at the first season as a rather harsh and insensitive character, evolved by the third season to somewhat of a moronic, violent troglodyte.

* SpearCounterpart: To Kana as being the second son and the summer child, and to Haruka as being the high school student.
* TallDarkAndHandsome: He's the tallest son and has the darkest hair of the family and looks pretty good.

Even Hayami mistakes him for a molester and slaps him in the face.

* CanNotSpitItOut: To Haruka. He always develop plans to get closer to her, but they never happen. The fact, that he and Haruka never meet each other, doesn't help.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: This guy has a strange mind and lives in his own world. He misinterpret most things he learns about Haruka and starts to act weird.

* EvilLaugh: Hosaka in the last episode of season 1. The whole scene on the cliff reminded this editor of the good ol' shows where the villain is shown madly laughing until the credits roll in a CliffHanger-esque ending... Perhaps, an intended mockery. And he goes at it ''again'' in the end of the second season. And it returns with the last scene of the ''first'' episode of the ''third'' season. And then in the last scene of the fourth season -- but then again, his plans for Haruka ''are'' kinda creepy... Hosaka's laugh even makes it into his ImageSong.

* SenpaiKohai: Haruka and her friends' senpai.

* SupremeChef: Is quite a skilled cooker, but feels his skills aren't good enough for Haruka.
** He's so good that Atsuko is utterly depressed after she tries his made bento because it tastes much better than anything she could cook.

* RedOniBlueOni: The red oni to Atsuko's blue. Aren't the hair colors obvious enough.

* CoolBigSis: To Touma because of Atsuko's big breast being nice pillows. Unfortunately, Atsuko is not sure about Touma's gender and feels uncomfortable about it.

Because her friends are helping her to find it and it would be embarrassing if she tells them the truth, she decides to "lose" it again, leading to HilarityEnsues with Atsuko, who finds the ring inside her bag.

Kana's popular classmate and a football player. Despite his affections for Kana, the latter instead sees him as a rival (thanks to Chiaki misinterpreting his letters of confession), earning the nickname "Banchou", a name he reluctantly accepts. As time passed he becomes one of the most welcome guests of the sisters, and even becomes a brother-figure for Chiaki.

* LoveConfession: He writes several love letters to Kana, and at some times even outright tells her he likes her. However, due to Chiaki's creative misinterpretation of the letters, along with her apparent ObliviousToLove mentality, his feelings go right over her head, and she seems woefully ignorant of his interest in her.

* NothingIsTheSameAnymore: In ''[[{{OVA}} Omatase]]'', Fujioka freaks out when Kana doesn't wear her GirlishPigtails, Keiko wearing contact lenses and Riko wearing a ponytail. He thinks they act weird, but actually it's just their spontaneous mood.

* SenpaiKouhai: The senpai to Akira, who respects and fears him.

* OddFriendship: With Kana. Really odd. It's not better with Riko, either.

* ShrinkingViolet: Keiko lacks of confidence, and the fact that Kana and Riko TrashTalk about her intelligence does not help.

* AdaptationDyeJob: Has the most drastic hair color change in the series, from having reddish purple hairs in the first two seasons to brown hair in the third.

Chiaki's classmate and the "idiotic child" of Class 5-2. Because Chiaki instantly hated him for helping Haruka, with whom he has a crush on, cook dinner, his only way to safely enter the sisters' home is, at Kana's suggestion, through crossdressing and taking the alias "Mako-chan", who pretends to be a middle school student. So far only Kana, Uchida and Touma know of this.

* TheChewToy: He's never gonna be able to stop being a trap.

* DisguisedInDrag: Due to Chiaki's hostility towards him, he can't visit Haruka unless he's dressed up like a girl, hence his alter-ego when going there. For all of Chiaki's perceptions, she is [[FailedASpotCheck unable to recognize him]] in drag.

* IWantToBeARealMan: What he ''really'' wanted to become. The other think, he's not manly at all.

* NoIndoorVoice: He always seem a bit loud and energetic when talking.

* TheDitz: She's always treated as an idiot, and for reasons.

* OnlySaneMan: She's the least quirkiest of the five elementary school students. Best demonstrated in ''[[{{OVA}} Omatase]]'', when she is the only child who does not use an absurd variant of "Trick or Treat".

* TwoFirstNames: Yoshino can be both a given name or a family name. However, it is whether Yoshino's name is her family name or not, considering that Uchida is always referred by her last name. If it's her family name, then it's played straight, but if it's her given name, it might be an aversion since her another name is unknown.

* MySisterIsOffLimits: He seems not to be fond of his younger cousins might have "boyfriends" or something like that.

* OutOfFocus: She is one of the most minor characters in the series and appear not more than one or twice per season.

* ClassRepresentative: In her middle school time. It's also the reason [[spoiler:why everyone starts calling her "Banchou"]].
* ContraltoOfDanger: When she called the other Minami family at the phone, she unintentionally made her voice lower and sounded like a kidnapper.

The middle brother of the other Minami family, Natsuki was a delinquent until Hosaka recruited him into the Men's Volleyball team. After an incident where he accidentally hugged/groped Haruka (in the manga and anime, respectively) and got beaten up for it, he started showing signs of embarrassment and/or affection whenever they're in the same location.

* BreakoutCharacter: Initially Sakuraba didn't seem very fond of him, and it didn't seem that he would use Hosaka for much time, but then the animated adaptation happened and gave him [[AdaptationExpansion expanded events and humor]], and with this the seemingly unimportant character took off. Ever since, Sakuraba has made Hosaka's moments in the manga as proiminent as in the anime, to the point newer seasons don't need to expand anything; just adapt panel by panel and you have enough of Hosaka for all. Also Hosaka is usually seen in newer back-covers from the manga, even if he doesn't appear much in the volume ''at all''.

* EvilLaugh: Hosaka in the last episode of season 1.
