!!Haruka Minami
!!!Voiced by: Creator/RinaSato
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/haruka_minami_218_9539.jpg]]

Eldest of the Minami sisters in second-year high school, Haruka serves as the sisters' mother figure. While infinitely reliable, likewise she can also be incredibly lazy when by herself. Her refined, gentle personality also makes people act more decently around her, including the normally snarky Chiaki.
----
!!! Tropes associated with Haruka Minami:
* ACupAngst: Despite having the biggest bust size in the series, there is a case of this in ''Tadaima''. When Haruka realizes that Natsuki saw her unbuttoned shirt, and then meets Hitomi who talks about her own incident with Natsuki, she mistakes Hitomi's incident with hers and is shocked to learn that Natsuki finds "her" breasts too small ([[ItMakesSenseInContext he actually meant the snow in the morning]]).
* AdaptationDyeJob: Has red eyes in ''Okawari''.
* BerserkButton: Don't underestimate candies.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: While she's usually easygoing, if her sisters do something she doesn't like, such as arguing with each other, she puts on a serious face, which will usually be enough to stop them from fighting.
** [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Lord_of_Terror.jpg As seen in the fifth episode]] of ''Okawari''.
* BuxomBeautyStandard: She has the biggest breast size of the cast and many of the boys and girls consider her attractive due to it.
* ClassRepresentative: In her middle school time. It's also the reason why everyone starts calling her "Banchou".
* CoolBigSis: So cool she is perhaps the only person Chiaki addresses with due respect.
* FakeUltimateHero: Maybe. It's implied that her Legendary Banchou reputation is mostly the result of exaggerated rumors. Of course, it's also been implied that at least half of those rumors are true.
* FriendToAllChildren: She's very nice to Chiaki and her friends.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: She is the nicest character in the series.
* IsThatCuteKidYours: Chiaki and Kana once get mistaken as Haruka's kids, by someone who hasn't even met them! Hosaka seems to keep this erroneous belief throughout the whole series.
* JapaneseDelinquents: She was believed to be a Banchou in middle school because her classmates called her like that, resulting in her being ShroudedInMyth.
* MsFanservice: Has plenty of {{Fanservice}} scenes, but it's not an overused trope. See ReluctantFanserviceGirl below.
* NiceGirl: She's a helpful and kind-hearted girl who is nice to everyone and gets rarely mad.
* ObliviousToLove: Subverted. The only reason she does not know about Hosaka's love for her is because she has never actually met him.
* OnceDoneNeverForgotten: Almost everyone regards Haruka as a delinquent gang leader. She wasn't.
* OneeSama: To Chiaki, who greatly respects her to the point of even calling her "nee-sama".
* OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent: Unlike Kana and Chiaki, she's not really special.
* PleaseDontLeaveMe: In episode 13 of season 2, [[spoiler:after hearing from Maki that Haruka was going overseas to study abroad, Chiaki and Kana both attempt to cook and clean their apartment without their sister's help so that they could send her off with a smile. Although they do a fairly good job at it, Chiaki starts to break down in tears and begs Haruka not to leave, followed shortly by Kana. Much to their surprise, Haruka tells them she's not going.]]
* PromotionToParent: To her younger sisters; taken to a ridiculous degree with her also being like a parent to the other Minami family (at least to Touma and to a lesser degree Akira).
* RedBaron: Back in middle school she was called "Banchou" ("Boss").
* TheReliableOne: She is the only one who constantly does the household chores.
* ReluctantFanserviceGirl: She's very shy about wearing sexy bikinis, and most fanservice scenes of her are unintentional on her part.
* ShroudedInMyth: "The Legends of Haruka" were exaggerated rumors which are only half true. She was portrayed as a brutal Banchou.
* TheSlacker: Surprisingly enough, she can be this when by herself.
* SupremeChef: The only sister who is able to cook properly.
* SweetTooth: Sweets can be her BerserkButton. If you eat her sweets, you make her either mad or depressed.
* TemporalThemeNaming: Her given name contains the kanji for "spring".
* {{Tsundere}}: Type B. She's usually a polite, nice and sweet girl, but she's often angry at Natsuki, for good reasons, mostly. This is mostly apparent in season 3, where he really acts like a jerk.
* YamatoNadeshiko: A kind-hearted, calm polite girl who is very helpful and does the housework.

----
!!Kana Minami
!!!Voiced by: Creator/MarinaInoue
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/minami-ke_kana_minami_6106.jpg]]

The middle sister and a second-year middle school student, Kana is energetic, lively, and prone to acting and/or talking before thinking.
----
!!! Tropes associated with Kana Minami:
* ACupAngst: In episode 9 of the first season, the sisters try on each other's school uniforms. Haruka wears Kana's, and notes that it still fits, while Kana angrily tells her to just say that it's tight around the chest. A moment later, Chiaki tries on Kana's uniform as well, and notes that the skirt is a bit loose, while the area around the chest is a perfect fit. Kana doesn't take those comments too well.
* AirplaneArms: Kana does this in episode 5 of season 2.
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Averted. She initially thinks that Fujioka is a Banchou who wants to challenge her, and consequently doesn't like him at first, but she seems to realize that he isn't and considers him more or less a friend. But in ''Tadaima'' episode 5, when Fujioka acts like he feels hot because he wants to get an invitation to eat noodles with Kana, she misinterprets his actions as delinquent-like and becomes afraid of him, especially when it looks like that he's fighting with Akira, but Fujioka is just asking him for advice.
* AnimalMotif: Whenever she lies under the kotatsu and only a part of her head and her GirlishPigtails are exposed, people mistake her for a stag beetle.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: With Chiaki. Big time.
* BigEater: She is often stuffing her face with food or snacks at home.
* BirdRun: In episode 5 of ''Okawari''.
* BookDumb: Her grades are not great, but unlike other examples of this trope, Kana's grades are also not terrible.
* ButtMonkey: Usually towards Chiaki, and occasionally Haruka.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: The logic of her actions often doesn't make much sense.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Happens to Kana a lot. In one instance, during episode 5 of season 3, she talks about going to a pool other than their school's. She invites Riko and Keiko, while Fujioka overhears it nearby. For whatever reason, neither Riko nor Fujioka seem to want to invite the other outright, so they talk out loud about how they want to go to the pool with others to try and clue Kana in on their intentions. Kana then thinks they were just interested in the school's pool, and decides she'll just go with her sister's friends instead.
* CoolBigSis: To Chiaki's friends. She desparately wants to be this to Chiaki herself, but unfortunately, Chiaki has far less respect for her than she does for Haruka.
* DecisionDarts: This is how Kana decides what to do during the summer vacation in ''Tadaima''. She and Chiaki end up fighting over what activities should be in which fields and what size they should have.
* DeepImmersionGaming: A short one takes place during episode 9 of season 2 with a game Kana is playing. It shows an outer space battle, and a ship captain mentioning launching a mecha before Kana is interrupted.
* DisappointingOlderSibling: She's this to Chiaki; even though Kana desparately wants to be a CoolBigSis to her younger sister, Chiaki has very little respect for her and frequently insults her for her idiocy.
* TheDitz: Often comes off as this.
* DrivenToSuicide: Chiaki and Haruka thought this of Kana at the end of ''Okaeri'', after she leaves behind what looks like a suicide note. [[spoiler:They were wrong, obviously.]]
* FanservicePack: Kana becomes better endowed between the first and second season. Possibly justified, as she ''is'' still growing. She seems to have developed a nice rear end as of ''Tadaima''.
* TheGadfly: 75% of the series' "plot" consists of Kana convincing people around her to do stupid things just for her own amusement.
* GenkiGirl: If she's not sleeping, she's always hyperactive.
* GenreSavvy: She's the only character who's properly cautious of Hayami's "juices".
* GirlishPigtails: Her signature hair style. At one point, she binds her hair lower to mess with people.
* TheGlomp: Well, this wasn't Kana's intention, but in episode 11 of season 2, she tells Chiaki she wants to have a final showdown with Fujioka. The latter tells her a secret move to use on him if all else fails. The next day, Kana confronts Fujioka and asks him why he calls her sisters by their first name, but her by last name. She tells him to call her "Kana-chan", but he turns around and says he's too shy to do that. She then utilizes Chiaki's "secret move", which was probably supposed to be a German suplex, but is unable to lift him. And Fujioka completely misinterprets the move as this trope.
* HeavySleeper: She often oversleeps.
* HeroicComedicSociopath
* HoistByHerOwnPetard: In episode 9 of season 1 Kana forces Chiaki to stay up all night in an attempt to forcefully wake her up, much like the latter had done in an earlier scene. Chiaki gradually tells her sister [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech why she's such an idiot]], and says she'd write a ten thousand word essay, but doesn't have time for it. Both girls end up sleeping well into the afternoon after Kana kept forcing Chiaki to stay awake. A few days later, Chiaki wakes Kana up at night, and plops said essay down, and tells her to read it. When Kana attempts to go back to bed, Chiaki grabs her and drops her pants much in the same way Kana did to her in that earlier scene.
* IconicOutfit: The "I AM BOSS" T-shirts.
* InsaneTrollLogic: The kid just runs on it.
* ItAmusedMe: She tends to make others do humiliating things for her enjoyment, such as forcing Makoto to dress up like a girl every time he visits their apartment.
* {{Jerkass}}: Not always, but her pranks sometimes make her enter this trope.
* LaserGuidedKarma:
** In the SickEpisode of ''Okawari'', she was faking a sickness to get out of the neighborhood cleaning that day, which Chiaki immediately suspects. But then she really gets sick the next day. Which was also the day the sisters were supposed to go shopping for clothes, and later go to an all you can eat rib restaurant. Kana tries various things to get better, but feels even worse by the time Haruka and Chiaki get home from shopping.
** In the sixth episode of ''Okaeri'', Kana has ruined Chiaki's summer. At the beginning of autumn, Chiaki strikes back and ruins her autumn. TemporalThemeNaming, isn't it?
* LethalChef: Unlike most examples, she is fully aware of how bad her cooking is, and uses it as a threat to get Chiaki to help out.
* ManipulativeBitch
* MiddleChildSyndrome: The ButtMonkey of the sisters who gets beaten up by her younger sister on a daily basis, and sometimes gets her older sister mad at her. Additionally, Chiaki is never punished by Haruka for all the abuse she delivers to Kana.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: There are hints she's smarter than her ditzy facade would otherwise imply, given her ability to [[TheGadfly troll]] and/or [[ManipulativeBitch manipulate]] others and come up with [[InsaneTrollLogic outright outlandish explanations]]. And her poor grades obviously come from her never-ending slacking, as lampshaded by Keiko, who points out that Kana just ''won't'' study. Kana thinks all she needs to get better grades is to [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} simply borrow Keiko's glasses]].
* ObliviousToHints: She's very bad with noticing hints.
* ObliviousToLove: Poor, poor Fujioka.
* OneOfTheKids: Of Chiaki's elementary school.
* OnlySaneMan:
** Whenever everyone else is drunken, Kana is always the one who is not.
** She is seemingly unaffected by brainwashing in episode 8 of ''Tadaima''.
** In ''Tadaima'', when Riko comes back from Kyoto and "infects" Keiko and Miyuki with Kansai-ben, only Kana notices it.
* OurVampiresAreDifferent: Her halloween costume in ''[[{{OVA}} Omatase]]''.
* PetTheDog:
** A rare one occurs in episode 10 of season 2. Usually Chiaki smacks Kana, or throws her teddy, when the latter does something upsetting to the former. But in this case, [[spoiler:Chiaki was preparing to eat some instant noodles that she had bought with her own money. Kana then comes home dripping wet from the rain, having forgotten to bring an umbrella. Chiaki goes to prepare a bath for her, and when she comes back to the living room, Kana is eating her noodles. Instead of getting incredibly angry at her however, Chiaki simply tells Kana to get into the bath after she's done eating, while simultaneously sitting down by the table with a very sad look on her face. Kana then leaves, and brings back some more instant noodles, which she shares with Chiaki, and later Haruka.]]
** In the ValentinesDayEpisode of the first season, she gives Fujioka, who really wanted chocolate only from her, some chocolate she just picked up/stole from other students.
** In the ValentinesDayEpisode of ''Okaeri'', Fujioka tries really hard to get chocolate from her, but his attempts to get sympathy always fail. Seeing how depressed he is, she gives him a chocolate bar, so he can get more energy, but Kana forgets that it's Valentine's Day.
* ThePlan: In episode 13 of season 4, Kana tries to get people to go [[CherryBlossoms flower viewing]] with her, but is unable to convince anyone to go. Then she sees various characters spill secrets about others, and hatches a plan with it. She tells various characters separately about a secret viewing area, and asks them not to tell anyone else, knowing full well they're going to blurt it out to others. At first it doesn't seem to go well, as she ends up waiting alone for quite a while. [[spoiler:But then everyone she told the secret to, and other people they've told, essentially the entire cast minus Hosaka, because Hayami couldn't be bothered to tell him, ends up going there.]]
* TheSlacker: She tends to be lazy and puts off studying, which results in her low test scores at school.
* SweetTooth: She really loves sweets. Her motivation on Valentine's Day is getting chocolate from others only for herself.
* TemporalThemeNaming: Her name contains the kanji for "summer".

----
!!Chiaki Minami
!!!Voiced by: Creator/MinoriChihara
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/minami-ke_chiaki_minami_5654.jpg]]

The youngest of the sisters, fifth-grader Chiaki is too smart for her own good, tending to over-analyze simple situations. She displays a dismissive behavior towards idiots, such as Kana and Makoto, and while she reveres Haruka, she has no qualms beating up Kana for her latest idiocy.
----
!!! Tropes associated with Chiaki Minami:
* ACupAngst: She feels uneasy for her undeveloped bust size (well, she's a fifth-grader) and becomes jealous of Touma's growing bust.
* AdaptationDyeJob: Chiaki has brown hair in the first season, blond hair with dark tips in ''Okawari'' and just blond hair since ''Okaeri''. Since ''Okawari'', Chiaki's hair is brighter than Haruka's.
* BigBrotherAttraction: Towards Fujioka, who technically isn't her brother, but they have a relationship like this.
* BigSisterWorship: She adores Haruka, and feels her older sister can do no wrong.
* CharacterCatchPhrase: "Bakayarou!" ("You idiot!")
* ClingyJealousGirl: Instantly disliked Makoto after seeing him help Haruka with her chores (besides his idiotic attitude).
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Chiaki has no sense for the romantic, leading to her creative misinterpretation of Fujioka's love letter; if it wasn't for her, Kana would probably get a boyfriend.
* CuteWitch: Her Halloween costume in ''[[{{OVA}} Omatase]]''. Mako-chan is also a CuteWitch, but Chiaki's costume looks more like a classical cute witch.
* TheDitz: Chiaki has her moments, despite being a LittleMissSnarker.
* EarWorm: Chiaki hears Hosaka's song about curry and Chiaki ends up singing it herself a few times.
* ExpressiveHair: Chiaki's IdiotHair waggles when something bothers her. It also behaves in a quite kinky way when affected by FrothyMugsOfWater.
* FailedASpotCheck: She is completely unaware that Mako-chan is Makoto in girl's clothing.
* GamerChick: And she's better than Kana or Touma.
* GenreSavvy: At times. In one example during episode 7 of season 2, after making some chocolates, she has one with her name on it inside the fridge cooling off. Naturally that's the one Kana decides to swipe and eat. [[spoiler:She then has a very disgusted look on her face, and Chiaki appears behind her, mockingly asking if she enjoyed that special chocolate, and lifts her nametag up to reveal an "idiot" nametag underneath.]]
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals: "Fujioka", a stuffed bear named after Kana's classmate, with whom she feels some kinship.
* GiverOfLameNames: She is asked by her classmates to give everyone nicknames, since she had done it for the teachers. However, every name she gives them is unimaginative and/or incredibly embarrassing.
* {{Jerkass}}: Again, not all the time, but sometimes to perhaps even greater levels than Kana, to whom she can be unnecessarily harsh.
** JerkWithAHeartOfGold / AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: She does care for her sister, though.
* LittleMissSnarker: She tends to do this often due to being surrounded by idiots such as Makoto and Kana.
* IdiotHair: Ironically, she's ''not'' the family weirdo. That role is much more accurately filled by Kana. Also, it's '''huge'''.
* TheNicknamer: In her class.
* OnlySaneMan: Whenever Haruka isn't around.
* ShoutOut: She attends Class 5-2, alluding to [[Manga/KyouNoGoNoNi the same-named manga]] from the author of this series.
* SuperDrowningSkills: She's not a good swimmer, unlike most of the other characters in the show.
* SurroundedByIdiots: If Kana and Makoto are anything to go by.
* TemporalThemeNaming: Her name contains the kanji for "autumn".
* TokenMiniMoe: Of the sisters.
* {{Tsundere}}: Type A. Harsh and abusive Chiaki sometimes is shown as a surprisingly loving sister to Kana, the main (and usually not innocent) subject of said abuse. She also acts in a tsundere-ish way towards Makoto, though definitely most of the "deredere" treatment gets received by his alter ego, Mako-chan.
* UnwillingSuspension: Kana dresses Chiaki up as a rain charm and hangs her from the clothesline, threatening to leave her like that until the weather clears up. She does.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Other Minami Family]]
!!Touma Minami
!!!Voiced by: Creator/NanaMizuki
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/minami-ke_touma_minami_1458.jpg]]

The youngest of the four siblings of the other Minami family and the only sister, tomboyish fifth-grader Touma attends the same school as Chiaki, though at a different class (5-1). She was also "adopted" by Chiaki as a "younger brother" due to the TemporalThemeNaming placing her as the "winter" of the family.
----
!!! Tropes associated with Touma Minami:
* {{Bifauxnen}}: Especially with her boyish clothes, most people assume she's a boy. She comes with a large share of "swooning [[UnsettlingGenderReveal confused females]]" (and possibly some "outright lesbians", too), as evident from episode 7 of ''Okawari''. Given that she wears the female school uniform, there is really not much room for doubt. Judging by the dialogue in that scene, it's apparently less that they don't know her gender and more that she is ''just that manly'', making this a weird mish-mash of EvenTheGuysWantHim and EvenTheGirlsWantHer. And Fujioka thinks she's a boy.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Both blue.
* DamselInDistress: In the ''Tadaima'' EyeCatch series ''Minamike Quest'', she is a princess escorted by the Minami sisters, who is then captured by the Demon King Hosaka. [[spoiler:She eventually gets free, thanks to Haruka, and she reunites with her prince brothers.]]
* DistaffCounterpart: To Makoto/Mako-chan. Both more or less crossdress, but Touma, who is the girl, is much manlier than Makoto, while Mako-chan is girlier than Touma.
* FunbagAirbag: In ''Okaeri'', she's pushed away by Kana and lands on Atsuko's breasts... and then falls asleep.
* GamerChick: She is not that good.
* GirlinessUpgrade: ''Tadaima'' gives her more feminine traits, but she's still a tomboy.
* HiddenDepths: She is a very skilled seamstress.
* IHaveBrothers: Three of them, who influenced her to become a tomboy.
* ImStandingRightHere: Touma gets this a lot from her brothers, but she's fairly apathetic about it.
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: Platonic example with Makoto.
* OneOfTheBoys: She lives with three brothers and had only male friends until she met Chiaki, her friends and her family.
* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent: Her halloween costume in ''[[{{OVA}} Omatase]]''. She later tries other costumes in the EyeCatch.
* SecretKeeper: One of three girls to know that Makoto is crossdressing (besides Kana and Uchida, who help him doll up).
* TheSlacker: If she's not eating in the Minami sisters' home, she's sleeping there.
* SweetTooth: Gets really mad at Natsuki, who ate her pudding (twice). She's supported by her other brothers ''and'' the other Minami family.
* TemporalThemeNaming: Her name contains the kanji for "winter".
* {{Tomboy}}: To the point that she's manlier than Makoto/Mako-chan.
* UseYourHead: Twice on Kana in the beginning of ''Okaeri's'' episode 4, after Kana ate a bit of Touma's cake. Then in the same episode on Natsuki, but it backfires.
* WholesomeCrossdresser: Touma fits the mold, perhaps most obviously when the other girls dress her up in Makoto's male kimono. She tries to act "manly" by posing with it off-shoulder. The others are visibly disturbed, for obvious reasons. Kana even comments on Touma's lack of shame in exposing her chest.

----
!!Haruo Minami
!!!Voiced by: Creator/ShinjiKawada
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/minami-ke_haruo_minami_7979.jpg]]

The eldest of the four siblings of the other Minami family of an indeterminate educational standing. While normally cool-headed, he seems to be in a state of denial regarding the effect his younger brothers' lifestyles have on their sister, Touma.
----
!!! Tropes associated with Haruo Minami:
* AloofBigBrother: To Touma and Akira. Not so much to Natsuki, who is aloof to ''him'', however.
* SatelliteCharacter: Most of his interactions are with his siblings only, mostly because he's a university student. His siblings on the other hand interact with their schoolmates and some other characters. In the final episode of ''Tadaima'', he finally interacts with other characters, briefly.
* SpearCounterpart: To Haruka, being the eldest son and the spring child.
* TheDitherer: Discusses everything to death, yet still cannot reach a conclusion.
* TheStoic
* StoicGlasses: In contrast to Keiko's shy and cute BespectacledCutie character.
* TemporalThemeNaming: Like Haruka, his name contains the kanji for "spring".

----
!!Natsuki Minami
!!!Voiced by: Creator/HiroyukiYoshino
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/minami-ke_natsuki_minami_1409.jpg]]

The middle brother of the other Minami family and a first-year student in Haruka's high school. Natsuki was a delinquent until Hosaka recruited him into the Men's Volleyball team. After an incident where he accidentally hugged/groped Haruka (in the manga and anime, respectively) and got beaten up for it, he started showing signs of embarrassment and/or affection whenever they're in the same location.
----
!!! Tropes associated with Natsuki Minami:
* AccidentalPervert:
** He accidentally [[FunbagAirbag touched]] Haruka's face because Maki pushed him. Haruka knew it wasn't his intention, but she punched him in the face (he accepted it) to prevent from more rumours.
** In ''Tadaima'', he accidentally notices Hitomi's unbuttoned shirt. When she asks him if he saw anything, he thinks she meant the snow in the morning and he tells her that he saw "everything" and what he thinks about "it", with a lot of unintentional DoubleEntendre, which drives Hitomi mad. A few minutes later, the same happens with Haruka: she asks him if she saw anything, but she really means the snow and not her exposed breasts because she doesn't notice it. Natsuki runs away and pretends that he didn't see anything. Then Hitomi and Haruka meet, and Haruka notices that her own shirt is unbuttoned. The former tells the latter what Natsuki "thought" when he saw her breasts, with Haruka believing that Hitomi is talking about her.
* AloofBigBrother: For Touma and Akira. He's even aloof to his older brother, Haruo. At one point, when Akira agrees with Natsuki, he tells him to shut up.
* BigLittleBrother: He's taller and stronger than Haruo and, sometime during the series, has apparently started to think of himself as of the head of the family.
* BrownNote / {{Nosebleed}}: Natsuki tends to collapse headfirst on the nearest surface with blood spewing out of his schnozz whenever he accidentally lets his mind wander to Haruka's cleavage. This is partly due to an [[FunbagAirbag incident]] that started with an overenthusiastic shove from Maki and ended with him getting punched in the face by Haruka for the sake of appearances.
* CannotSpitItOut: Telling his little sister that he loves her.
* {{Flanderization}}: He started at the first season as a rather harsh and insensitive character, and evolved by the third season to somewhat of a moronic, violent troglodyte.
** He's much less aggressive in the fourth season, though.
* IWantToBeARealMan: A real man does not yield to the attacks of his littler sister.
* ItMakesSenseInContext: A RunningGag between him and Hitomi, who very often misinterprets his thoughts and words because she doesn't know the context.
* LetsGetDangerous: After Touma defeats him in a ''[[VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters KoF '95]]'' match, he switches from a gamepad to an arcade stick and spams [[TheHero Kyo Kusanagi's]] ''[[PlayingWithFire 108 Shiki: Yami Barai]]'' like there is no tomorrow and wins without giving her any chance to attack.
* LoveAtFirstPunch: In a way, towards Haruka after she beat him up for an incident of accidental perversion.
* PerpetualFrowner: An issue that is noted by Akira.
* RealMenCanCook: He is the one in the family who usually cooks, that's why he often leaves the volleyball training early.
* RetiredOutlaw: He was a delinquent until Hosaka recruited him into the Men's Volleyball team.
* SoreLoser: He does not take his loss by the hands of his little sister in a ''[[VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters KoF '95]]'' match well. Natsuki immediately switches from a gamepad to an arcade stick and gets his revenge by spamming projectile attacks, grinning like a maniac while doing so.
* SpearCounterpart: To Kana, being the second son and the summer child, and to Haruka as the high school student.
* TallDarkAndHandsome: He's the tallest son, has the darkest hair of the family, and looks pretty good.
* ThanksForTheMammary: Natsuki is pushed into Haruka. She knows it was accidental and doesn't hold it against him, but still has to sock him one for the sake of appearances.
* TemporalThemeNaming: Like Kana, his name contains the kanji for "summer".
* TheUnSmile: [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mko10-34.jpg Natsuki's smile]] is somewhere between this and {{slasher smile}}.

----

!!!Voiced by: Tatsuya Hayama
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/minami-ke_akira_357.jpg]]

The youngest brother of the other Minami family in first-year middle school, Akira tends to be ignored by his older brothers in a conversation due to their age gap. He also has a thing for long-haired girls, such as Riko.
----
!!! Tropes associated with Akira Minami:
* AloofBigBrother: ...Yeah. If only for Touma.
* JustAKid: How his older brothers treat him.
* LikesOlderWomen: In the final episode of ''Tadaima'', he seems to be attracted by Dr. Kumada.
* OnlySaneMan: Between his two rather detached {{Aloof Big Brother}}s and uninterested younger sister, he seems to have a hold of all the common sense in the family. Ignored by everyone, of course.
* ShipperOnDeck: He supports Fujioka to get the girl he loves, but Akira does not know that it's Kana.
* SpearCounterpart: To Chiaki, being the third son and the autumn child, and to Kana, being the middle school student.
* TemporalThemeNaming: Like Chiaki, his name contains the kanji for "autumn".
* WholesomeCrossdresser: As "Aki-chan" whenever he's with Fujioka inside the Minami sisters' household.

!!Hosaka
!!!Voiced by: Creator/DaisukeOno
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/minami-ke_hosaka_879.jpg]]

A third-year student and captain of the Men's Volleyball team, famous for fantasizing in the middle of a crowd while unbuttoning his shirt and exposing his well-sculpted figure.
----
!!! Tropes associated with Hosaka:
* AccidentalPervert: While Maki always thinks he's a pervert, the second episode of ''Okaeri'' takes the cake when Hayami tells him to become friends with Maki and Atsuko; his attempts look like he's going to grope them and both of them run away. Even Hayami mistakes him for a molester and slaps him in the face.
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: Hosaka gets a "bad luck" fortune [[Mystical108 108]] times on New Year's and still doesn't take it as a sign to give up on his quest for Haruka.
* BigBad: In the ''Tadaima'' EyeCatch series ''Minamike Quest'', he is the Demon King and kidnaps Princess Touma.
** While girls admit that he looks cool and is handsome, his weirdness turns them off.
* BreakoutCharacter: Initially Sakuraba didn't seem very fond of him, and it didn't seem that he would use Hosaka for much time, but then the animated adaptation happened and gave him [[AdaptationExpansion expanded events and humor]], and with this the seemingly unimportant character took off. Ever since, Sakuraba has made Hosaka's moments in the manga as prominent as in the anime, to the point newer seasons don't need to expand anything; just adapt panel by panel and you have enough of Hosaka for all. Also Hosaka is usually seen in newer back-covers from the manga, even if he doesn't appear much in the volume ''at all''.
* CanNotSpitItOut: To Haruka. He always develop plans to get closer to her, but they never happen. The fact that he and Haruka never meet each other doesn't help.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: This guy has a strange mind and lives in his own world. He misinterprets most things he learns about Haruka and starts to act weird.
* TheComicallySerious: He's always serious... with a LargeHam.
* CoolBigBro: Seems to be this to Chiaki, whom he doesn't even notice. His monologues are the only thing to convince Chiaki to buy vegetables without forcing her. She also calls Hosaka the "Curry Fairy".
* {{Determinator}}: Hosaka will not give up on his affection for Haruka, going so far as to master cooking to make her happy. In the final episode of season one he takes to making buckwheat noodles, and at the end he takes a case of his cooking and climbs to the top of a snowy mountain.
* EvilLaugh: Hosaka in the last episode of season 1. The whole scene on the cliff reminded this editor of the good ol' shows where the villain is shown madly laughing until the credits roll in a CliffHanger-esque ending... Perhaps an intended mockery. And he goes at it ''again'' in the end of the second season. And it returns with the last scene of the ''first'' episode of the ''third'' season. And then in the last scene of the fourth season -- but then again, his plans for Haruka ''are'' kinda creepy... Hosaka's laugh even makes it into his ImageSong.
* HotBlooded: Hosaka can get so hot-blooded, rainwater on him turns to steam.
* ImagineSpot: Often, and with everyone watching. They just think he's creepy. Not helped at all by the fact that he tends to [[ShamelessFanserviceGuy spontaneously strip]] as he fantasizes.
* InstantExpert: He is able to become a SupremeChef shortly after taking up cooking. In season 4, he also takes up knitting, and by merely watching a fellow classmate knit and glancing at the knitting instructions, he is able to deduce the basics of it and starts knitting.
* LargeHam: So very much. His ''is'' the most dramatic character of the series.
* MistakenForGay: In the fourth episode of ''Tadaima'', he makes a big bento for Natsuki's family, so Natsuki doesn't need to leave the training earlier. However, giving bento to someone is often an act of love confessions, so Natsuki refuses it, since Maki and Atsuko are watching them from behind.
* MrFanservice: All of his scenes are {{Shirtless Scene}}s.
* MrImagination: Often has an ImagineSpot regarding Haruka.
* {{Narcissist}}: Mistaken for this by some onlookers.
* NewJobAsThePlotDemands: He often follows Haruka around, doing whatever she's doing, or at least assisting her indirectly, such as cooking at a sports festival, or helping to clean up in a neighborhood cleaning day, even though he apparently doesn't live in the same area as they do.
* NiceGuy: Easy to overlook, given his general weirdness, but the fact is that he honestly believes Kana and Chiaki are Haruka's children and this does ''nothing'' to change how he feels about her.
* PhraseCatcher: "Kimochi warui" (most commonly translated as "disgusting").
* PublicDomainSoundtrack: Whenever Hosaka gets over-dramatic, an arrangement of the first movement of Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings in C major Op. 48 can be heard in the background.
* ShirtlessScene: Rather often during his {{Imagine Spot}}s. He needs no reason to actually do it. He's gone shirtless in school, as a chef, with a fish... [[MrFanservice Not that anybody]] [[EvenTheGuysWantHim is complaining]].
* SignatureLaugh: "Haha-ha! Haha-ha! Haha-haha!"
* SpontaneousChoreography: Hosaka is prone to these from time to time.
** In episode 2 of season 2, he bursts into an ImagineSpot song about curry after overhearing Chiaki mention spicy ingredients at the supermarket.
** In episode 8 of season 4, he does it again, this time about vegetables. Chiaki also joins in on the ImagineSpot, and sings on stage with him.
* StupidSexyFlanders: Hosaka has quite the large fanbase among men as well as women. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrMtgd3gpqw This video's comments section]] shows the influence he has over them.
* SupremeChef: Is quite a skilled cook, but feels his skills aren't good enough for Haruka.
** He's so good that Atsuko is utterly depressed after she tries his bento because it tastes much better than anything she could cook.
* TallDarkAndHandsome: He's very tall, has black hair and looks pretty good (if he's not doing something weird or talking).

A petite second-year student and classmate of Haruka. She always tries to protect Haruka from Hosaka.
----
!!! Tropes associated with Maki:
* CatchPhrase:
-->"Kimochiwarui" ("Disgusting", whenever she witnesses yet another of Hosaka's chest-baring fantasies)
* CannotKeepASecret: In the final episode of ''Tadaima'', she blabs to their friends that Atsuko said her breasts have grown. She even claims that saying "It's just between us" is code to tell the secret to everybody.
* CoolBigSis: What she tries to be for the younger girls.
* TheDitz
* {{Flanderization}}: Her silliness.
* {{Shorttank}}
* RedOniBlueOni: The red oni to Atsuko's blue. Aren't the hair colors obvious enough?
* ThoseTwoGirls: With Atsuko.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The tomboy to Atsuko's girly girl.

Another second-year student and one of Haruka's classmates, as well as an unusually shy player for the Women's Volleyball team.
----
!!! Tropes associated with Atsuko:
* AdaptationDyeJob: Has dark purple hair in the first season. Later seasons makes it darker with each installment to make it normal black hair.
* ButtMonkey: Her shyness and lack of confidence makes her a subject of funny moments.
* BuxomBeautyStandard: Her well-endowed figure is what Touma likes about her. Also, Haruka asks Atsuko to grope her breasts after Maki blurted out that her breasts have grown bigger.
* CoolBigSis: To Touma because of Atsuko's big breasts being nice pillows. Unfortunately, Atsuko is not sure about Touma's gender and feels uncomfortable about it.
* CuteClumsyGirl: Despite being a member of the volleyball team, her finger strength is so low that she is even unable to open a can; a very cute trait that makes Maki and Kana jealous of her and call her a witch.
* HugeSchoolgirl: Is noticeably taller than the other girls excluding Hayami.
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue oni to Maki's red.
* ShrinkingViolet: She's a shy and timid girl and has an issue with expressing herself clearly.
* ThoseTwoGirls: With Maki.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The girly girl to Maki's tomboy.

A third-year student and de facto captain of the Women's Volleyball team, who tries to recruit Haruka. Cunning and mischievous, she has a hobby of messing around with Hosaka and Haruka, and at times tries to fool her juniors into drinking alcohol disguised as high-grade "juice".
----
!!! Tropes associated with Hayami:
* TheDragon: In the ''Tadaima'' EyeCatch series ''Minamike Quest'', Hayami is TheDragon to Demon King Hosaka.
* {{Expy}}: Has a similar appearance (including EyesAlwaysShut) and personality to Mitsune Konno from ''Manga/LoveHina''.
* EyesAlwaysShut: Well, almost always.
* FrothyMugsOfWater: Hayami-sempai's "high-quality, imported 'juice'" in episode 10 of season 2. Or it could just be Hayami messing with the Minami sisters, as we do get sequences where they question if it really is juice, considering smell and taste. And they were brought in juice containers, so it's probably just Hayami being one hell of a gadfly. It's implied that it really was alcohol, considering [[CrossesTheLineTwice a drunk Hayami gives the rest of the "juice" to Kana who then hands it to the fifth-grade kids waiting in the park for the picnic and everyone except for Fuyuki gets drunk, with Touma crying over how weird the juice makes her feel.]]
* TheGadfly: Hosaka is her favorite toy, but she likes to mess with most of her friends' heads for fun.
* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: Though she does get drunk.
* HugeSchoolgirl: She is even slightly taller than Atsuko.
* MinionWithAnFInEvil: She's TheDragon to Demon King Hosaka in ''Minamike Quest'', but she doesn't fight the Minami sisters and lets them pass. [[spoiler:Not to mention that she helps them during the fight against Demon King Hosaka, and Hayami eventually defeats him by herself.]]
* ObsessedWithFood: She always tries to scam bentos from Haruka or Hosaka.
* ShipperOnDeck: Tries to hook up Haruka and Hosaka together. But her plans are usually foiled by someone, or something.
* TheStarscream: In ''Minamike Quest'', [[spoiler:it's Hayami who defeats the Demon King Hosaka]].
* SuccubiAndIncubi: What she is in ''Minamike Quest''.
----
!!Hitomi
!!!Voiced by: Ayaka Saitou

She is a first-year student in the same class as Natsuki and is his friend. She has an interest in Natsuki and believes she can read him by looking at his eyes. Hitomi was also the second "Banchou" in her middle school. She made her anime debut in ''Okaeri''.
----
!!! Tropes associated with Hitomi:
* ACupAngst: While she is not flat per se, she gets mad at Natsuki when he tells her that "they" could have more volume ([[ItMakesSenseInContext he's actually talking about the snowfalls in the morning]]).
* AscendedExtra: She had only appeared in 1-2 episodes in ''Okaeri'', but reappears as a RecurringCharacter in ''Tadaima''.
%%* CanNotSpitItOut: To Natsuki.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: She's under the mistaken belief that Natsuki looks at her with the eyes of someone who's in love.
* DelinquentHair: She has a unique hairstyle. Considering her former Banchou title, how she wears her uniform and how she acts, this might be a reason for the votum.
* DistaffCounterpart: To Fujioka. They both are synchronous in almost every situation.
* TheDitz: In episode 3 of ''Tadaima'', Hitomi thinks that she's lost her expensive ring, but she notices that she's still holding it in her hand. Because her friends are helping her to find it and it would be embarrassing if she tells them the truth, she decides to "lose" it again, leading to HilarityEnsues with Atsuko, who finds the ring inside her bag.
* EyesNeverLie: She's able to read Natsuki's thoughts by looking in his eyes. She's right, but misinterprets the reasons behind them.
* FireForgedFriends: With Fujioka. They don't like each other at first and have various "fights" until they have a draw in the "toilet race" and become something-like-friends.
%%* HopelessSuitor: To Natsuki.
* NonUniformUniform: She doesn't wear a necktie, and a part of her shirt is unbuttoned.
* RedBaron: She's the second student in Kana's middle school to wear the "Banchou" title.

Kana's popular classmate and a football player. Despite his affections for Kana, the latter instead sees him as a rival (thanks to Chiaki misinterpreting his letters of confession), earning the nickname "Banchou", a name he reluctantly accepts. As time passes he becomes one of the most welcome guests of the sisters, and even becomes a brother-figure for Chiaki.
----
!!! Tropes associated with Fujioka:
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: He probably should listen to his devil and give up his quest for Kana. However, unlike Hosaka, Fujioka always gets some hope.
* BigGood: In the ''Tadaima'' EyeCatch series ''Minamike Quest'', Fujioka is the archangel who [[spoiler:gives the Minami sisters their EleventhHourSuperpower]].
* CanNotSpitItOut: To Kana. The times he tried come out as {{Epic Fail}}s.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: To an extent. This guy has the tendency to misinterpret Kana's actions as affection to him.
* CoolBigBro: Has grown into this role towards Chiaki and Touma.
* CrazyJealousGuy: When in an ImaginaryLoveTriangle with Kana and Akira.
%%* DoggedNiceGuy[=/=]HopelessSuitor: To Kana.
* TheDreaded: Akira is afraid of him, mostly because of Fujioka's Banchou title.
* FireForgedFriends: With Hitomi. They don't like each other at first and have various "fights" until they have a draw in the "toilet race" and become something-like-friends.
* FriendToAllChildren: The reason why Chiaki and Touma are fond of him.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: He's the nicest character after Haruka.
* HotBlooded: He can be this if he tries to get Kana's attention. Or when he trains soccer with Touma.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: The only one who doesn't know Touma is actually a girl.
* LoveConfession: He writes several love letters to Kana, and at some points even outright tells her he likes her. However, due to Chiaki's creative misinterpretation of the letters, along with her apparent ObliviousToLove mentality, his feelings go right over her head, and she seems woefully ignorant of his interest in her.
* MistakenForBadass: Fujioka isn't actually a badass, but is labelled one by Kana.
* NiceGuy: He's friendly, helpful and gets rarely mad.
* NothingIsTheSameAnymore: In ''[[{{OVA}} Omatase]]'', Fujioka freaks out when Kana doesn't wear her GirlishPigtails, Keiko wears contact lenses and Riko wears a ponytail. He thinks they act weird, but actually it's just their spontaneous mood.
* PrettyBoy: He's a blond, good looking guy who is popular with the girls because of his good looks (and his [[NiceGuy pleasant demeanor]]).
* RedBaron: "Banchou" ("Boss"), given to him by Kana. Becomes "officially" the fourth Banchou when Yuu gives her title to him.
* SpearCounterpart: To Hitomi. They both are synchronous in almost every situation.

An honor student and classmate of Kana, as well as, oddly enough, friend (or at least an outlet of Kana and Riko's insanity).
----
!!! Tropes associated with Keiko:
* AdaptationDyeJob: Each season seems to change her hair color.
* ButtMonkey: Tends to get dragged into Kana's escapades.
* CutenessProximity: How she reacts to Miyuki.
* FramesOfReference: Her round glasses and gentle shyness contrast with the angular lenses and stoic, detached manner of Haruo.
* OddFriendship: With Kana. Really odd. It's not any better with Riko, either.
* OnlySaneMan: She's the only one in Kana's class with common sense.
%%* RedOniBlueOni: The blue oni to Kana's red.
* ShipperOnDeck:
** For Kana/Fujioka. Probably at least partially in hope of driving Kana's insanity away from herself.
** She also sometimes helps Riko, despite knowing that Fujioka has eyes for Kana.
* ShrinkingViolet: Keiko lacks confidence, and the fact that Kana and Riko TrashTalk about her intelligence does not help.
* TheSmartOne: Whatever test comes up, she's guaranteed to get a perfect score. Unfortunately, Kana dishonors her intelligence whenever that happens. And Riko, too.
* SmartPeopleWearGlasses: One of two characters[[note]]not counting the filler character Fuyuki[[/note]] to wear glasses, and the only one noted for academic achievement. Kana even believes she becomes smarter when wearing Keiko's glasses.
%%* ThoseTwoGirls: Sometimes with Riko.

Another of Kana's classmates. She has a crush on Fujioka, and only befriended Kana, who she sees as a rival, just so she can have a shot at him. She also has the same erratic, domineering personality as Kana.
----
!!! Tropes associated with Riko:
* AlphaBitch: Has some shades of this, especially in the beginning. Her method of forcing Keiko to introduce her to the circle and wanting to use Kana to get to Fujioka would qualify.
* BigBreastPride: Averted. She doesn't think that her breasts are special.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Is quite jealous of Kana's apparent close relationship to Fujioka, despite the fact that they aren't dating.
* HopelessSuitor: To Fujioka, even more than he is for Kana.
* ImagineSpot: But nowhere near as much or as weird as Hosaka.
%%* ThoseTwoGirls: Sometimes with Keiko.

A third-year student and an admirer of the legendary first Banchou, Haruka Minami. She's the friend of the third Banchou, Yuu.
----
!!!Tropes associated with Hiroko:
* AdaptationDyeJob: Has the most drastic hair color change in the series, from having reddish purple hair in the first two seasons to brown hair in the third.
%%* BirdsOfAFeather: With Kana.
* TheDitz: She is a strong believer of "The Legends of Haruka", despite that Yuu always tells her that the rumors aren't true.
%%* {{Fangirl}}: Of Haruka.
* GenkiGirl: In contrast to Yuu, Hiroko is a very enthusiastic and energetic girl who can't get enough of the Banchou stories.
%%* RedOniBlueOni: The red oni to Yuu's blue.
%%* ThoseTwoGirls: With Yuu.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The Girly Girl to Yuu's tomboy.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Does not appear in ''Tadaima''.

----
!!!Tropes associated with Yuu:
* AdaptationDyeJob: Has brown hair without the dark tips in ''Okaeri''.
* DelinquentHair: Her multicolored hair qualifies.
* FaceOfAThug: Her overall appearance gives her a delinquent vibe, even though she isn't one.
* {{Fangirl}}: Of Haruka the first Banchou, even though she knows that the rumors about her are not true.
* HugeSchoolGirl: She is taller than the other middle school girls.
* ILetYouWin: Loses the RockPaperScissors game on purpose to finally give her Banchou title to somebody else.
* JapaneseDelinquent: Is believed to be one, resulting in her Banchou title.
* PassingTheTorch: Gives her Banchou title to Fujioka because she doesn't want it.
* PerpetualFrowner: Has only a few moments where she smiles and doesn't frown.
* RedBaron: She is the third student to have the Banchou title, despite not wanting it.
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue oni to Hiroko's red.
* StraightMan: The Straight Girl to Hiroko.
* ThoseTwoGirls: With Hiroko.
* {{Tomboy}}: She looks tough and has no problems with picking her ears or nose in public.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The Tomboy to Hiroko's Girly Girl.
* {{Tsundere}}: Not of the stereotypical kind. While she is cold to almost everybody, she has a soft spot for Kana and likes her.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Does not appear in ''Tadaima''.

Kana's ditzy classmate who makes her anime debut in ''Omatase'' ({{OVA}}) and ''Tadaima'' (the fourth season). She wants to become taller.
----
!!!Tropes associated with Miyuki:
* ACupAngst: She's a UsefulNotes/{{Pettanko}} who wants to have bigger cups.
* BookDumb: Subverted. If she's motivated enough, she can reach the full score.
* CannotKeepASecret: In the last episode of ''Tadaima'', she tells Riko's secret about her knitted scarf for Fujioka in public, since Miyuki doesn't know the meaning of "it's just between us".
* TheCutie: Miyuki's so adorable that Keiko, who is aloof to Kana, is willing to help her studies.
* TheDitz: She's probably dumber than Kana. She doesn't even know the meaning of "it's just between us".
* GirlishPigtails: A part of her cute appearance.

Chiaki's classmate and the "idiotic child" of Class 5-2. Because Chiaki instantly hated him for helping Haruka, whom he has a crush on, cook dinner, his only way to safely enter the sisters' home is, at Kana's suggestion, through crossdressing and taking the alias "Mako-chan", who pretends to be a middle school student. So far only Kana, Uchida and Touma know of this.
----
!!! Tropes associated with Makoto:
* CassandraTruth: In episode 10 of the first season, Mako-chan tells Haruka and Chiaki that he's a male. However, because of the way he blurts it out, they don't believe him, and think he's just acting out like Touma, a [[SweetPollyOliver genuine girl pretending to be a boy.]]
* TheChewToy: He's never gonna be able to stop pretending to be a girl.
* CuteMonsterGirl: In the ''Tadaima'' EyeCatch series ''Minamike Quest'', Mako-chan is a bee monster, who is eventually defeated by the mage Chiaki.
* CuteWitch: Mako-chan's halloween costume in ''[[{{OVA}} Omatase]]''. Chiaki also wears a CuteWitch costume, but Mako-chan's pink outfit with the MagicWand looks more like a MagicalGirl costume.
* DisguisedInDrag: Due to Chiaki's hostility towards him, he can't visit Haruka unless he's dressed up like a girl, hence his alter-ego when going there. For all of Chiaki's perceptiveness, she is [[FailedASpotCheck unable to recognize him]] in drag.
* DudeLooksLikeALady: Even as his male self he still looks quite effeminate. Which makes crossdressing easier for him.
* IWantToBeARealMan: What he ''really'' wanted to become. The others think he's not manly at all.
* IdiotHair: Makoto, but not Mako-chan. Interestingly, regarding Chiaki's idiocy analysis, Mako-chan is 0% an idiot.
* InTouchWithHisFeminineSide: To the point that he's more feminine than Touma.
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: Platonic example with Touma.
* NoIndoorVoice: He always seems a bit loud and energetic when talking.
* PaperThinDisguise: All he needs is a hairclip, a dress, and a different hairstyle, and Chiaki is still none the wiser.
* PrecociousCrush: On Haruka.
* SecretIdentity: Makoto and Mako-chan are two different identities, which only a few know.
* StandingInTheHall: Until it's dark and a teacher tells him to go home!
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: Mako-chan is actually a very girly girl, but she can be very masculine if the situation calls for it. Ironically, in those situations, Mako-chan is manlier than Makoto.
* WholesomeCrossdresser: Mako-chan becomes "trapped" in his role when no-one believes he's a boy, due to a female-to-male {{Wholesome Crossdresser}}'s earlier IgnoredConfession. In the second season, however, there have been hints that Makoto is enjoying this situation. That twisted grin when he found the bondage outfit didn't help matters. Nor does the fact that he carried a purse to a sleepover, or wore a French Maid outfit (complete with knee-high socks and makeup) to his ''school's cultural festival''. By the third season, he doesn't even think twice about dressing up in Haruka's old outfit to help increase his supposedly-nonexistent bust size (it was Chiaki`s idea, though). Come ''Tadaima'', Makoto's crossdressing situation has accumulated so much inertia that Kana's count of his protests to stop has reached more than fifty already.

!!Yuka Uchida
!!!Voiced by: Creator/EriKitamura
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/minami-ke_yuka_3598.jpg]]

Chiaki's friend from Class 5-2 and Kana's accomplice in dolling up Makoto.
----
!!! Tropes associated with Yuka Uchida:
* BorrowedCatchPhrase: In one episode of ''Tadaima'', she says "So da ne" in the same way as Yoshino usually does.
* ButtMonkey: A magnet for undeserved misfortune.
* CannotKeepASecret: In the last episode of ''Tadaima'', she tells the others that Touma just went to the boys' toilet, despite Touma told her to keep it a secret.
* CatGirl: Her halloween costume in ''[[{{OVA}} Omatase]]''.
* TheDitz: She's always treated as an idiot.
* {{Expy}}: Inverted. Yui from ''Anime/AngelBeats'' is the expy of ''her''.
* {{Flanderization}}: Her silliness.
* GirlishPigtails: Has small pigtails, but she doesn't bind all of her hair.
* LastNameBasis: Is usually adressed by her last name.
* NeverLiveItDown: An InUniverse example throughout the whole third season; Kana frequently mocks her for believing that a prince on a white horse is coming for Uchida.
* RedOniBlueOni: The red to Yoshino's blue.
* SecretKeeper: She knows Mako-chan's true gender since the beginning.
* ThoseTwoGirls: With Yoshino, though Uchida has many scenes where she's not with her.

!!Yoshino
!!!Voiced by: Creator/AkiToyosaki
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/minami-ke_yoshino_6843.jpg]]

The third member of Chiaki's clique, who's pretty level-headed for a kid of her age. May also be wise to Makoto's cross-dressing nature.
----
!!! Tropes associated with Yoshino:
* ArtEvolution: Her hair has become notably longer between ''Okaeri'' and ''Tadaima''.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Maybe. Not knowing for sure really messes with Mako-chan's head.
* CatchPhrase: Her "So da ne" ("That is right") can be counted as this.
* EvilLaugh: Mako-chan interprets her laugh in ''[[{{OVA}} Betsubara]]'' as this, combined with VoiceOfTheLegion and a dark aura.
* EyesAlwaysShut: A mild example, since her eyes are usually open. But Yoshino has the tendency to close her eyes, depending on the situation.
* {{Mummy}}: Her halloween costume in ''[[{{OVA}} Omatase]]''.
* NiceGirl: You cannot be a YamatoNadeshiko without being nice and friendly.
* OnlySaneMan: She's the least quirky of the five elementary school students. Best demonstrated in ''[[{{OVA}} Omatase]]'', when she is the only child who does not use an absurd variant of "Trick or Treat".
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue oni to Uchida's red.
* ThoseTwoGirls: With Uchida.
* TwoFirstNames: Yoshino can be both a given name or a family name. However, the question is whether Yoshino's name is her family name or not, considering that Uchida is always referred by her last name. If it's her family name, then it's played straight, but if it's her given name, it might be an aversion since her other name is unknown.
* YamatoNadeshiko: At ''ten years old!'' She is nice, friendly, polite and calm.

!!Shuuichi
!!!Voiced by: Momoko Ohara
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/minami-ke_shuuichi_5392.jpg]]

Another classmate of Chiaki, who is a friend of Makoto.
----
!!!Tropes associated with Shuuichi:
* TheBusCameBack: He reappears in ''Tadaima'' after being PutOnABus in ''Okaeri''.
* EmbarrassingNickname: He dislikes the lame nickname "Plain Yogurt" Chiaki gave him and seems to NeverLiveItDown because he doesn't even like yogurt.
* GratuitousEnglish: His EmbarrassingNickname "Plain Yogurt".
* [[OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent Ordinary Elementary School Student]]: He's so ordinary and plain, he got the nickname "Plain Yogurt".
* OutOfFocus: He's one of the most minor characters in the series, probably because of his plain character.
* PutOnABus: He doesn't appear in ''Okaeri''.
* SatelliteCharacter: He is nothing more than Makoto's ordinary friend, and that is not enough to have a ThoseTwoGuys dynamic, since Makoto appears mostly without him.

!!Takeru
!!!Voiced by: Creator/ShintaroAsanuma
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/minami-ke_takeru_7306.jpg]]

An older cousin of the Minami sisters who occasionally drops round; also, they call him "Uncle". Has a very unlucky love life and often mentions the name of his girlfriend Reiko.
----
!!!Tropes associated with Takeru:
* ButtMonkey: He has not much luck with his love life, and the girls tend to ignore him.
* CoolUncle: Subverted and averted. First, he's not the Minami sisters' real uncle, but their cousin. Second, they don't find him cool at all. Kana finds him annoying, Chiaki is indifferent to him, but she doesn't want him as a guardian. And Haruka is [[NiceGirl just Haruka]]. But if he brings [[SweetTooth sweets for them]], it's a different story.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: During the first episode of season 2, while taking the girls and their friends out on a drive, Haruka apologizes for taking up his time. He says he doesn't mind it, until Kana mentions that he wouldn't have anything better to do anyway. He suddenly starts swerving on the road a lot, causing Kana to apologize for her earlier remark.
* HonoraryUncle: He's the Minami sisters' cousin, but he's like an uncle to them. However, only Haruka calls him "Uncle". The other sisters call him just Takeru.
* MySisterIsOffLimits: He seems not to be fond of the idea his younger cousins might have "boyfriends" or something like that.
* NoSenseOfDirection: Whenever the girls needs him to drive them to a vacation place, they always need hours to arrive there. To his credit, he's sometimes not the only one who is fault for that.
* PsychicPower: Implied in the first episode of ''Okaeri''. He uses a pen to help the sisters finding things they are looking for (Chiaki's "Fujioka", Haruka's popsicle, Kana's potential marriage candidate who turns out to be Fujioka); Takeru says there is no trick behind it, but he's always right.

!!Doctor Kumada
!!!Voiced by: Creator/HaruhiTerada
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/minami-ke_kumada_4644.jpg]]

A doctor at Chiaki's school. She makes her anime debut in ''Okawari'' and since then she appears once or twice per season.
----
!!!Tropes associated with Doctor Kumada:
* DudeMagnet: She apparently has unintentionally attracted Takeru and Akira.
* HospitalHottie: She's a young doctor at Chiaki's school who looks very hot.
* OutOfFocus: She is one of the most minor characters in the series and appears not more than one or twice per season.

----
!!Masumi Fuyuki
!!!Voiced by: Miho Saiki
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/minami-ke_fuyuki_9404.jpg]]

A young boy who moves next door to the Minami sisters in ''Okawari'' (season 2). He is an anime-only character, having never appeared in the manga.
----
!!!Tropes associated with Masumi Fuyuki:
* CanonForeigner: Only appears in the second season of the anime.
* ExtremeDoormat: He will help anyone who asks, and he won't resist. Chiaki notices this.
* LastNameBasis: Everyone calls him by his family name.
* NiceGuy: He is extremely helpful to others, and never seems to turn down requests. The latter part annoys Chiaki as she notices that even though he may not want to help, he does it anyway.
* PutOnABus: He leaves the show after one season. He also leaves rather unceremoniously, [[spoiler:with his dad picking him up in the middle of his and Chiaki's sports day festival.]]
* ShipTease: A slight one with Chiaki, but it never pans out much, largely as Chiaki seems rather cold towards him.
