He takes the time to note this doesn't necessarily make him a villain any more than their being the Ivory Kings makes them good.good, noting that the self-denial route of the white mage sometimes makes heroes - but not always - while the earthly route of the black mage sometimes results in a lust for worldly power, and thus villainy - but not always.
* DeadpanSnarker: With emphasis on the deadpan. Eventuality has a very wry manner of speaking.

* FutureMeScaresMe: Meridius is terrified of becoming this guy, and everything he does is an attempt to stop that happening. Per Eventuality, it doesn't matter what he does, whether Eddie loses the power of the King in Black or not, he will eventually regain it (and probably lose it again and then regain it again), and eventually become Eventuality. Hence the name.

* TheUnchosenOne: Once again underlines that Eddie is ''not'' the one who was meant for this role, with Eddie responding to the outlining of the job of the King in Black and how it has to be done whether he likes it or not by muttering Spider-Man's "great responsibility" mantra, before saying it should have been Peter. Eventuality agrees, remarking that Spider-Man was ''born'' for the role, but he's not here and [[ClosestThingWeGot Eddie is]], so he'll have to do.

In ''ComicBook/{{Venom|2021}}'' (Vol. 5), Eddie becomes ensnared in a convoluted time-loop that results in several distinct iterations being created:
----
[[folder:Space Venom]]
!!Space Venom
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/king_in_black_eddie_brock.jpg]]
!!! '''First Appearance:''' ''Venom'' (Vol. 5) #25 (September, 2023)

A temporal duplicate of Eddie Brock as he was when he first arrived in the Garden of Time.
----
* AlternateSelf: When Eddie breaks the time-loop, Space Venom becomes a separate individual from him... and Eddie wastes no time in venting his self-loathing at having abandoned Dylan to play god on him.
* KilledOffForReal: Carnage rips his heart out and crushes it, destroying his codex/soul in the process.
* NaiveNewcomer: Having only just arrived in the Garden of Time from his own perspective, he's utterly clueless as to what's going on and assumes Carnage is the one responsible for his predicament rather than Meridius.
* TheNthDoctor: He's the earliest iteration of Eddie to arrive at the Garden of Time, and prior to the time-loop being broken he was destined to become Finnegan when broken by despair, Bedlam when consumed by rage, Wilde when that rage burns out, Tyro after being broken by despair again, and Meridius after discarding his remaining humanity. [[spoiler:The Eventuality reveals there's countless other paths that could be taken, but that all of those routes lead to Eddie becoming it.]]
* SealedGoodInACan: He's Eddie at his most heroic, having resolved to do his best to redeem the Symbiote Hive... but he's also clueless and unwittingly responsible for much of the suffering his future selves undergo--making him the target of Bedlam and the main Eddie Brock's wrath. After destroying Space Venom's avatar, Eddie and his Bedlam use their combined King in Black powers to prevent him from re-manifesting.

!!! '''First Appearance:''' ''Venom'' (Vol. 5) #5 (February, 2022)

A purportedly neurotic and delusional King in Black from the future whose avatar manifests as a grey symbiote.
----
* AlternateSelf: When Eddie breaks the time-loop, Finnegan is overjoyed by the realization that he doesn't ''have'' to become Bedlam, Wilde, Tyro, or Meridius.
* HulkingOut: When the Carnage symbiote reveals it killed Dylan, Finnegan is enraged--absorbing extra symbiote matter from the Garden to go "old school"--as Carnage puts it--and bulk up significantly. [[spoiler:However, Carnage still one-shots him by impaling him through the chest with All-Blood.]]

* NervousWreck: How he initially comes across. [[spoiler:He turns out to be Eddie in the middle of a panicking breakdown.]]
* TheNthDoctor: The first of Eddie's future selves, desperately scrambling to warn his past self about what's about to happen before Bedlam can get there.

* FutureMeScaresMe: He loathes Tyro due to knowing that sooner or later he'll become the snivelling sycophant towards Meridius.
* MeaningfulName: Named after Creator/OscarWilde on account of his witticisms.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: When the time loop goes as it should, he crosses the DespairEventHorizon and turns into Tyro after realizing his advice to try dimension hopping instead of time-travel set Eddie on the path of even more misery.

* AmnesiaMissedASpot: Despite the damage Chasm did to his memory, he does vaguely recall some of what happened in Limbo, including the bit about how time goes in different ways there.
* BeneathTheMask: He does partially remember Dylan, but keeps away from him because of the pain of the memories.
* DespairEventHorizon: Crossed it some time ago and became convinced the only way to "win" was to try and learn everything from and ultimately ''become'' Meridius, who openly despises him.
* GoMadFromTheIsolation: Cut off from any true human contact, in addition to the TraumaCongaLine that caused him to become Tyro in the first place, Tyro was already going peculiar. He manages to regain much of his former confidence and sense of self with Kang's help, [[spoiler:but spending an unknown amount of time looking into the timestream causes him to finally snap altogether and become Meridius.]]
* GoMadFromTheRevelation: Witnessing [[spoiler:his unavoidable fate to become the Eventuality utterly horrifies him, and he becomes obsessed with preventing this outcome at any and all cost. Looking through the timestream and seeing the Venom symbiote assimilating the Earth to become Venomworld]] causes him to snap and become Meridius, desiring that power for himself.
* IveComeTooFar: When the time-loop is broken, Tyro doubles down on villainy--insisting that he ''must'' become Meridius so that all he's suffered and done won't be all for nothing.
* TheNthDoctor: The fourth of Eddie's future incarnations, following on from Wilde.

->''"I'm Eddie Brock. But i'm so much more than that."''

A King in Black from even further into the future than Meridius.
----
* AndThenWhat: Dryly notes he'll sit out the end of the eighth multiverse and see the birth of the ninth, and has no idea what he'll do then; either become a cautionary example for the next King in Black, or get a Porsche. "Either way, I plan to enjoy my retirement."
* BodyMotifs: Hands. He first appears in the form of a free-floating hand, and his appearance to Eddie is him literally and metaphorically lending him a hand when no-one else would.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Identifies as a black magician compared to the Beyonders' white, but takes the time to note this doesn't necessarily make him a villain any more than their being the Ivory Kings makes them good.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Appears as an end of issue glimpse when Meridius outlines what he is. He doesn't make a full bodied appearance (such as it is), until issue #18.
* FutureMeScaresMe: Meridius is terrified of becoming this guy, and everything he does is an attempt to stop that happening.
* GoodIsNotNice: While not malevolent, or even rude or unkind, he is quite blunt in telling Eddie what the score is as King in Black, brushing off Eddie's protests with "Knull said the same." There's a job that needs doing, Eddie's got it, so he might as well get with the damn program and do it.
* MeaningfulName: As he explains to Eddie, events in the timeline are now fixed so that no matter what happens (Eddie lives, Eddie dies, Eddie loses his powers) he will still come into existence.
* TheNthDoctor: [[spoiler:The absolute last of Eddie's future selves, and the inevitable end result for all of them.]]
* ScrewYouElves: Not expressed directly, but his disdain towards the Beyonders when Eddie realizes they're the King in Black's light counterpart makes it clear how he feels about them.
-->'''Eddie:''' Kings in ''White''. My God...\\
'''Eventuality:''' Yes. They really think they are.
* ZeroApprovalGambit: When pondering what he might do in the Ninth Cosmos, the Eventuality remarks that he might take up an antagonistic role to forge whoever gets picked as his successor as the King in Black, essentially filling the role that Knull did for Eddie.

** When fighting Darkoth in Limbo, the clash between the King in Black and the King of Limbo causes time to split, creating a version of Bedlam who loses (becoming the main Eddie Brock) and a version of Bedlam who wins (continuing the time-loop to become Meridius).
** The resurrected Eddie showing up in Baywater to fight Bedlam creates another timeline split--one branch continuing as it should have, with Bedlam cooling his heels in the ruins of the Renegades' bar until he turns into Wilde, and another where Bedlam pulls a HazyFeelTurn and bonds with Eddie to help him.
** Eddie and Bedlam crash-landing the Fantastic Four's time-machine into the Garden of Time breaks the time-loop and causes all of his iterations to branch off into alternate selves. In the resulting confrontation, Finnegan and Wilde join forces with Eddie, Tyro doubles down on villainy, the two Bedlams fight each other, Space Venom is a NaiveNewcomer who Eddie disdainfully curb-stomps, and Meridius is enraged until being upstaged by Carnage.

* EvilCounterpart: To Peter Parker, and later Flash Thompson. AS both Venom and Toxin Eddie Brock is pretty much what Peter and Flash would be he had Knight Templar qualities and never bothered to suppress the Symbiote they possessed.

* EvilMeScaresMe: The reason he hates the symbiote so much is because of the things he did under its influence. Even after rebonding to it and becoming Venom again, Eddie is unsure if that was the right decision to make given its renewed proclivity for excessive violence and that when he was unconscious it almost killed a innocent priest, and is making an effort to find out what happened to put it back in its vicious state. [[spoiler:He's also very (and rightfully) suspicious of Meridius when he introduces himself as his aid in the Time Garden, yet allows Bedlam to tear Finnegan apart. To say that Meridius revealing himself to be an Eddie Brock from a far future is something that does not sit well with Eddie. AT ALL]].

I think this part is only applicable to The Spectacular Spider-Man iteration of the character, where he does at one point cause Spidey to scream "Shut up!" at him in the episode "Nature vs. Nurture".

* DeadpanSnarker: Part of being Peter's EvilCounterpart, he's known to be the villain that actually makes ''Spidey'' scream "Shut up!"

Trope is definition only

* OffModel: Purposely done by artist John Romita, Jr., who depicted Venom as being perpetually warped and distorted.

* TokenGoodTeammate: However, when teamed up with other anti-heroes like the Punisher Eddie usually was the most moral member of the team up, especially in his orginal "run". He also served this role to the Sinster Six during his laspe back into villainy in the early 2000s, which was one of the factors that led him to betray the team and instead try to kill them.

* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: Eddie's and the symbiote's vendetta against Spider-Man is a classic case of this: Eddie for losing his job and reputation; the symbiote for being rejected. * TheExtremistWasRight: While as Anti-Venom, Eddie claimed that the symbiotes were a bunch of demons corrupting humanity, and it turns out that this claim has some truth to it. As Knull orginally created the symbiotes to corrupt creation and bring them under his control, only for the symbiotes to later rebel and turn on him after being disconnected from his hivemind and bonding to humanity.

** Although Emil Greg was the actual Sin Eater, Eddie being forced into outting him by the police and his boss, and Spider-Man catching the supposed "real" Sin-Eater the following day was just a bad coincidence, but the mistake sparked a series of unfortunate events that ruined Eddie's professional and personal life, and he blamed Spider-Man for his misfortune.

** Lampshaded in ''Venom'' Annual #1, where a group of villains at the [[BadGuyBar Bar with No Name]] tell each other Venom stories. Black Cat speaks of how she once got the jump on him and kicked him into an exploding car, the bartender speaks of how Venom once fought Wolverine, who mocked him for picking only on Spider-Man and got the better of him in that particular bout, and lastly a third patron speaks of how Venom once went toe-to-toe with Juggernaut - while claiming the entire time that Venom was out of his depth and got curb-stomped, [[UnreliableNarrator although the actual flashback shows Venom fending him off]]. ** Eddie's involvement in [[ComicBook/TheDeathOfJeanDeWolff the Sin-Eater]] storyline is this. In the original story, Emil Gregg went to the Daily Bugle armed with a gun intent on killing Jameson because of his anti-vigilante stance. Peter (who wasn't in Spider-Man gear at the time) knocked him out with a typewriter alowing him to be subdued and arrested. Daredevil was able to deduce that Gregg wasn't the Sin-Eater by listening to his heartbeat and finding out it didn't match the real Sin-Eater's. A search of Gregg's apartment and the discovery that he was the neighbor of Stan Carter, the actual Sin-Eater, proved Daredevil's claim. The story makes no mention of Gregg talking to a reporter about being the Sin-Eater yet Brock's origin as told in ''Amazing Spider-Man'' #300 has him as the one who turned Gregg over to the police instead of the Daily Bugle staff.
