* LowerclassLout: Pretty much his persona for the entirety of the movie: he speaks crassly, he hits on Eggsy's mom despite not having a problem assaulting her, and he leads a group of thugs at the pub.

* BlandNameProduct: Valentine's glasses have an extra plastic piece above his right eye, which he calls "V-Glass." Although no attention is drawn to it, it strongly resembles a Google Glass.

* MisanthropeSupreme: Bizarrely subverted - he wants to wipe out most of humankind to stop destruction of nature, but his does it to preserve humankind, not nature, as he believes that Earth will eventually destroy humanity to stop pollution.

* PyrrhicVictory: For the most part, all his plans were successful, [[spoiler: a good portion of the global population is gone including the mass majority of the worlds leaders who denied climate change for monetary reasons. It's just that everyone he wanted to save including himself died.]]

* AdaptationalHeroism: Merlin remains loyal to the Kingsman, [[spoiler: unlike Rupert Greaves, his equivalent character in the comics, who joins forces with the villain and attempts to poison the protagonist.]] This element of his character is given to Arthur in the film.
* BadassBaritone: Merlin has a deep voice and is the Kingsman's resident BadassBookworm.

* GoodIsNotNice: He comes across like a {{Jerkass}} to his students at first, but he is doing so to keep them in reality but also to test them to see if they truly are Kingsmen material. Once he, Eggsy and Roxie are on their own, he reveals himself as more or less a TeamDad.

* MissionControl: While he's still a badass, he's rarely seen partaking in field assignments, instead overseeing active Kingsmen agents.

* OnlySaneMan: [[spoiler:Especially after Harry's death. And upon finding out Arthur had compromised the Kingsmen by siding with Valentine, he's the only one trusted by Eggsy and the new Lancelot to help them stop TheVirus.]]

* PromotedToOpeningTitles: A film equivalent anyway. Despite being one of the main characters, he's barely featured let alone billed as such in promotional materials (Teren Egerton suffers from the same). And along with Egerton, [[KingsmanTheGoldenCircle he's headlining the sequel]].

%%* MsFanservice: Averted, despite being young and beautiful. Not even the scene where she swims nor when she gets all dressed up to seduce another young and beautiful girl play up the sexy.

* RealityEnsues: He's a badass OneManArmy, [[spoiler: and dies of something as mundane as a bullet to the head from the NonActionBigBad. [[ThisIsReality There isn't even any fanfare about it.]] Just in case you were beginning to think Galahad was an InvincibleHero.

* TheMentor: Veteran secret agent Harry Hart acts as a mentor to Gary Unwin, aka Eggsy, and persuades him not to waste his life and talent in crime and join the undercover espionage agency Kingsmen to save the world from ''Film/JamesBond'' type villains.

* RealityEnsues: He's a badass OneManArmy, [[spoiler: and dies of something as mundane as a bullet to the head from the NonActionBigBad. [[ThisIsReality There isn't even any fanfare about it.]] Just in case you were beginning to think Galahad was an InvincibleHero. [[FandomSpecificPlot Amusingly, most fanfictions have him survive this event.]]]]
** [[spoiler: What's even more amusing is that he really may have survived, if [[LateArrivalSpoiler the poster for]] [[Film/KingsmanTheGoldenCircle the sequel]] [[ReportsOfMyDeathWereGreatlyExaggerated is any indication.]]]]

* TricksterMentor: Most of the tests he puts the candidates through are actually testing for something other than what it seems on the surface, or at least have some twist to them that he doesn’t bother to explain. Most notable is the skydiving incident in which he allows all of the candidates to jump from the plane, before suggesting that they need to know what to do when operating under unforeseen circumstances... like when one of them ''doesn’t have a parachute''. [[spoiler: He never actually said that any of them were missing parachutes.]]

* NotSoDifferent: As he's [[spoiler: ying after ingesting his own poison, his accent switches from Posh to Cockney, revealing that he came from humble beginnings like Eggsy]].
* PoliticallyIncorrectHero: He's a classist jackass, but is head of the Kingsmen Agency, which basically exists to save lives and help out the world. [[spoiler:Then he joins Valentine, making him a PoliticallyIncorrectVillain.]]

* TheSpymaster: He's the movie's answer to [[Franchise/JamesBond M]]. As the head of the agency, every Knight answers to him.

The other female Kingsman candidates, she dies in the first test, drowning when the others fail to notice that she hasn't woken up.

* SacrificialLion: Is the only candidate killed during the Kingsman training. [[spoiler:Averted, her death was faked to emphasize how serious the others should take this course and revealed to be still working for the organisation in a Berlin branch.]]

* YourHeadAsplode: Subverted. Despite working for Valentine, he isn't killed by Valentine's weapon, as it's been [[http://deadline.com/2016/03/edward-holcroft-to-return-to-kingsman-2-taron-egerton-1201722827/ confirmed]] that Holcroft will be returning for the sequel.

* TookALevelInBadass: When he puts all his smarts and skills with his Kingsmen suit and gadgets, he becomes nearly unstoppable.

* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: Her entire career pretty much, despite being the most capable candidate. Her only moments in the limelight were stressing about her fear of heights and being consoled by Eggsy. In the end she doesn't even have a Kingsmen suit yet. Taken literally when [[spoiler: we're informed that she just passed the speeding train test before Eggsy even had his. And again when she passes the ShootTheDog test offscreen, but you hear her pull the trigger in the next room.]]

* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Roxy has a fear of heights.

* TheAce: He was more or less this (badass driver, pretty adept traceur, Royal Marine trainee and high IQ) to begin with and over the course of the movie becomes even more so in several ways. He even successfully impersonated a member of high society, which just three days before would have been, by his own admission, his biggest obstacle as a Kingsman.

* ClassicalAntiHero: Starts as one and grows into a more conventional hero over the course of the film.

* FriendToAllLivingThings: He has a weakness for animals.

* ImprobableWeaponUser: During the climax, as a way to [[spoiler: honor the memory of his recently-deceased mentor]], he wields a souped-up umbrella. To be fair [[spoiler: as they are weaponized; they only ''look'' improbable to anyone not into the secret. Now the fight with Gazelle on the other hand; ''that's'' where this becomes much more prominent - as he makes use of everything and anything he can get his hands on to keep out of striking distance of her foot-blades.]]

* WellDoneSonGuy: Eggsy soon wants to prove himself to Galahad by passing the Kingsmen candidacy.

* SmurfettePrinciple: The only female Kingsman candidate other than Amelia, [[spoiler:and not only does Amelia exit the story almost immediately after her introduction, it's revealed near the end that Amelia was a plant by the Kingsmen who faked her death to illustrate the dangers of their work]].

* SpecsOfAwesome: Their glasses are one of the Kingsman gadgets, doubling as heads-up displays and transmitting live-streams to HQ or Merlin's plane. As such, they never take them off, even in combat.

* ChivalrousPervert: Downplayed. He's not an inappropriate flirt, but he had no problem having RescueSex with a girl he hardly knows -- although, to be fair, he only asked for a kiss; the rest was her initiative.

* BadassDriver: Can outrun the police while driving backwards for several miles.

* BrilliantButLazy: Why he's a petty crook rather than a straight-A student or a Royal Marine, both of which he had the potential for.

* TheMentor: Serves as this to Eggsy, inducting him into the training program for Kingsmen and teaching him how to be a gentleman.

* DeadpanSnarker: Just as much as the rest of the cast, as exemplified with his commentary to the candidates during the skydiving test. He even jests that he'd be impressed if one of them ended up splattered on the landing zone.

* AffablyEvil: Valentine is a down-to-earth, genial fellow who's mildly {{Adorkable}}, doesn't care at all about his billions and is primarily concerned with saving the world and humanity. He shows a dislike of politicians who "stand for nothing but re-election", he's genuinely charming, makes friends easily and absolutely believes he is doing the right thing. It's little wonder so many of his co-conspirators come over to his side willingly. [[spoiler:He even mourns the death of his previous kidnap victim, Dr. Arnold.]]

* NonActionBigBad: He has no stomach for blood or violence, and he's a feeble techie to begin with, so he lets [[DarkActionGirl Gazelle]] do the fighting for him.

* KickChick: A variant, since her legs function more like swords.

* GoodIsNotNice: He comes across like a {{Jerkass}} to his students, but he is doing so to keep them in reality but also to test them to see if they truly are Kingsmen material.

* BadassInANiceSuit: To the extent that finally donning the suit was how he prepared to infiltrate the super-villain's lair, illustrating the end of his training and the beginning of his life as a Kingsman. The suit itself helps him be more BadAss, being bullet-proof.

* SuitUpOfDestiny: Right before the climax, he performs one of the most {{Badass}} instances of putting a suit on ever.

* RealityEnsues: He's a {{Badass}} OneManArmy, [[spoiler: and dies of something as mundane as a bullet to the head from the NonActionBigBad. [[ThisIsReality There isn't even any fanfare about it.]] Just in case you were beginning to think Galahad was an InvincibleHero. [[FandomSpecificPlot Amusingly, most fanfictions have him survive this event.]]]]

* AmbiguouslyGay: His BerserkButton seems to be abuse against homosexuals if the barfight scene and church scene are any indication. His interactions with Eggsy are also dripping with HoYay, and ColinFirth himself has said "We don't know anything about him, he might not be straight" when talking about the character.

* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: Lampshades BondVillainStupidity and forgoes it by [[spoiler:shooting Harry in the head]]. He brings up how stupid it would be for him to [[spoiler:put the ExplosiveLeash implant in his own head or [[TheDragon Gazelle]]'s]], hence why he did not do so. When he realizes that an unknown organization is on to him, he immediately boosts production to accelerate the implementation of his plan. Instead of putting his EvilPlan into an easily hackable system, he connected it directly to his biometrics, meaning the only way to stop it was to go to him personally, and the plan could not be averted through external hacking. Lastly, [[spoiler:rather than rely upon either his own satellite network or Gazelle's presumable murder of Eggsy before bringing his plan into action after losing a satellite, he piggybacked on an associate's nearby one instead to shorten the time span to the completion of the network needed and made sure to never lift his hand from the control providing the power for the EvilPlan until he was killed]].

* MetaGuy: Frequently comments on the various TuxedoAndMartini tropes as he either [[DangerouslyGenreSavvy averts]] or [[AscendedFanboy revels in them]].

* TheObiWan: Serves as this to Eggsy, inducting him into the training program for Kingsmen and teaching him how to be a gentleman.

The BigBad of the movie, who believes strongly in environmentalism, equality, and wants to kill off most of humanity to save the rest.

* PetTheDog: Even though he could've just forced Princess Tilde to have a chip implanted or torture into doing so, he doesn't. Yes, he keeps her imprisoned, but makes sure her accommodations are good and she's properly fed.

* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: The [[NonActionGuy non-action]] Feminine Boy to Gazelle's AxCrazy Masculine Girl.

* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: The AxCrazy Masculine Girl to Valentine's NonActionGuy Feminine Boy.
