* BreakoutCharacter: The Gokaiger's are probably the most popular team of the 2010s and potentially of the franchise in general. They've returned several times since, and have probably made the most appearances as an entire team. They're notably thus far the only team to have the entire team make a guest appearance during another show with their return in Zyuohger. Marvelous himself has made several appearances either by himself or only with one or two other members and is the Red Warrior and male Sentai character with the most appearances (He's beaten out by HurricaneBlue and Deka Yellow)
* BroughtDownToBadass: At the conclusion of their show, they return the Ranger Keys to their original holders losing the ability to transform into other Rangers and going from potentially the most powerful team in existance (given they could use EVERY Sentai power) to only about as strong as any other Sentai team.

As a result, he ends up clashing with Marvelous.

To get it, however, they need the Greater Powers of the 34 Sentai teams before them, which all come in the form of Ranger Keys. Also, the Zangyack Empire seems to have some beef with them, forcing this lot of swashbucklers to save Earth from their clutches to get what they want, not helped by their second fleet getting in their way a lot.

* LethalJokeCharacter: He may be loud and energetic, but don't underestimate him in a fight.
** This goes for the "skill" he brings to the Gokaiger's table too. It turns out having insane encylopedic knowledge of Sentai's history and abilities is actually incredibly useful when your team's main offense is using those abilities and your goal requires understanding clues based off said history. Until Gai joins the team is mostly just kind of blundering their way through the clues and figuring out their abilities as they go along.

* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: Big time.

* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: Manly Man to Don and Gai's Sensitive Guys. (One of two)

* ButtMonkey: Not even the Zangyack think he's worth their time. [[spoiler:Subverted in this case as that lead to the "The Strongest Man in Space"'s downfall.]]

* DeceasedParentsAreTheBest: Ahim actually ''watched her parents get killed'' as her planet was conquered.

* LastOfHerKind: Ahim is possibly the last survivor of the Planet Famille, which was destroyed by the Zangyack.
** #41 has confirmed that there are other survivors scattered across the universe, but her entire family is indeed gone.
* TheLoad: Noteworthy of having already been [[DefiedTrope Defied]]. As mentioned in earlier tropes, she was useless when first joined the team, but she trained hard into what she became by episode #1.
** Of course, it was averted anyway. While she might have been ineffective in battle, during the rest of their day-to-day lives, her ability to be peacemaker was crucial in keeping the other Gokaigers from killing each other.

* BadassNormal: More or less. He is the only human amongst aliens and while the other Gokaigers have about 34 Ranger Keys each, he only has fifteen Ranger Keys. Interesting to note, he defeated a bunch of gormins and an action commander without using a Gokai Change. (Granted, he didn't have any other keys but it was still cool.)
** EmpoweredBadassNormal: No one in the team ''has the'' ''[[FusionDance ability to fuse their]]'' ''TransformationTrinkets'' other than Gai.

* ButtMonkey: In the movies (''Film/KaizokuSentaiGokaigerTheMovieTheFlyingGhostShip'' and ''Film/KaizokuSentaiGokaigerVsSpaceSheriffGavanTheMovie'') Gai really gets treated badly by the other Gokaigers, especially in the latter.
** On the side note, he's like this when Don isn't the butt monkey of an episode.

** Episode 20, when Navi gives the next clue. He easily figured out the clue was refering to Gingaman.

* Can'tCatchUp: Doc's afraid of this happening, as while he starts out not near the warriors the original 3 are he could at least hold is own in a fight compared to Ahim being pretty useless initially. But by the time the show's started Ahim is just as capable as him and is rapidly leaving him in the dust in terms of combat as the show progresses, and then Gai shows up who's a much better fighter than him out of the gate. For the most part though, Doc remains a vaulable part of the team even if he's probably the weakest member of the group by the end. It's notable that when the Gokaiger face off against other Sentai teams, which happens quite a few times Doc is the only member of the Gokaiger to be clearly on the losing side of his fight with his other team counterpart.

* AscendedFanboy: In and Out universe example. Gai is a fan of Super Sentai, same goes with the actor Junya Ikeda, who is also a big Super Sentai fan. The fanboy part normally shows up anytime he encounters a member of a past Sentai. He actually ''flips'' when he is the only one of the team members not to see [[NamesTheSame Gai]] [[Series/ChoujinSentaiJetman Yuuki]] in #28.

* DualWielding: Does this with the [[KnifeNut Rocket Daggers]] every time he brings out the Go-On Wings key.

* AwesomeMcCoolname: With a name like Captain ''Marvelous'', how can it not be awesome?

* IGaveMyWord: In #42, flashbacks show how he met the others: Luka came to him (in disguise) to ask for help with the Galleon, but when he realized she was a wanted SpacePirate he panicked and ran. But later that night he tracked down the Galleon, saying that though he's still scared, he promised to fix the ship and he always sees his jobs through to the end.

* PantyShot: Before she changes during the fight in Episode 11. No MagicSkirt for this princess.

* [[SwissArmyWeapon Swiss Army]] [[ProngsOfPoseidon Prong]]: The Gokai Spear is a combination of three weapons, a [[BladeOnAStick a spear]], a [[RayGun laser gun]], and an [[AnchorsAway anchor]] (this one only activates in Gold Mode).

* RapunzelHair: Though not as extreme as some examples he started the series with a ponytail that ended mid-back and it just got longer as time went on, ending at least waist length by the time the season was over. Also applies to his actor, production added extensions to his hair and it grew very quickly over the course of filming.
