!!'''Bell Cranel'''
[[quoteright:256:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bell_zenshin.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/YoshitsuguMatsuoka (JP), Creator/BrysonBaugus (English)[[labelnote: Foreign [=VAs=]]]Diego Santos (Latin American Spanish), Rubén Felis (European Spanish), Michaël Maino (French), Patrick Keller (German), Creator/JacopoCalatroni (Italian), Pablo Argôllo (Brazilian Portuguese)[[/labelnote]]

The main protagonist of the series.\\\

Starting off as a rookie adventurer, Bell's life is put at risk after coming across a high-level Minotaur. However, he is saved by the seasoned adventurer Ais Wallenstein and ends up developing a crush on her. After the event, Bell ends up acquiring a rare skill, Liaris Freese, that allows for him to accelerate his growth so long as it corresponds with his strong feelings towards achieving something... such as catching up to Ais.

[[foldercontrol]]
[[folder:A-I]]
* AboveTheInfluence: Despite what his grandfather told him to do, he doesn't seem to like taking advantage of women. Unfortunately, Hermes tricks him into doing it by claiming he wanted to talk to Bell privately, only to lead him to a spot where they could see the women's bath before inadvertently making Bell fall into the bath as well. [[ShamelessFanserviceGirl Luckily for him, a number of them (especially Hestia) didn't mind.]] [[DisproportionateRetribution As for the others, especially Lefiya... not so much.]]
* AccidentalPervert:
** Bell has an odd habit of accidentally getting into some compromising situations, such as rolling straight into Ais' butt, though it's probably a given due to how many women are around him. Usually due to Hermes' schemes.
** This saves him in Volume 7, where his accidental wandering into Haruhime's room and being mistaken for a client allows him to hide from his pursuers.
* AlbinosAreFreaks: Inverted. Bell's snow-white hair and red eyes remind others of the cute, but dangerous almiraj ([[KillerRabbit a rabbit with a horn on its head]]) monsters that inhabit the middle floors of the dungeon -- this adds to his "pure" and "rabbit-like" appearance that others find endearing and cute, while Hestia, who is head over heels for him, considers them part of his "cool looks". [[spoiler:Potentially subverted if one follows the Astraea Record event of ''Memoria Freese'', when Bell's maternal aunt Alfia indicates Bell's white hair and red eyes were inherited through his mother and father respectively. This may imply his appearance may not be due to the albinism as we know it.]]
* AllLovingHero: If he's able, he ''will'' come to the aid of anyone under monster threat, even those who have betrayed, harmed, or attempted to kill him and those he cares about. In fact, [[spoiler:he is so all-loving that he is willing to alienate the entirety of Orario and jeopardize his reputation to save the sentient monster Wiene.]]
* AllMenArePerverts: Downplayed. He may not be willing to cross certain lines such as deliberately peeking on naked women, but he certainly doesn't mind being subjected to MarshmallowHell from a goddess like Demeter.
* AlmightyJanitor: Downplayed. [[spoiler:He takes on Asterius, a Black Rhinos Xenos rated as a Level 7 threat, on his own even while he's a Level 3 (though he had the stats of a Level 4 and [[DramaPreservingHandicap Asterius was at death's door thanks to Ais]]). He loses, but the fact that he's even alive at all is amazing (but this is partially due to Asterius' sense of honor and desire for an even greater rematch once they're both stronger).]]
* AmazonChaser: He chases after the Sword Princess Ais to one day be on the same level as her.
* AnimalMotifs: Bell often gets compared to a WhiteBunny--makes sense due to his albinism and his speed.based style of combat. Unfortunately for Bell, it makes it easy for him to be the butt of certain rabbit-related jokes, such as in the novels, when Lily disguised herself as a wolf-person, at least one onlooker said the "wolf" could eat the "rabbit" as emergency provisions.
* ApologizesALot: Does this often, usually when he ends up accidentally doing something perverted to women.
* BadassAdorable: Frequently called cute because of his rabbit-like appearance.
* BadLiar: Bell Cranel CannotKeepASecret, but this is less because he blabs his mouth and more because he's a terrible liar.
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: Bell joins Hestia Familia because no one else would take him in, while she approached him and offered him the opportunity.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: A genuine NiceGuy for the most part, but will get angry if someone he cares about gets hurt.
* {{BFS}}: He occasionally wields one, especially when his knives aren't enough for some reason, most prominently example being his fight with the Minoutaur of the 9th floor.
** In an event of ''Memoria Freese'' the Hestia Knife gets a Greatsword variant crafted to help him fight against the current threat. It gets destroyed by the end.
* BlackSwordsAreBetter: The Hestia Knife is a special black knife that only works for him. As Bell grows in power, so will it until they both reach the pinnacle of Orario. Naturally, it's all black.
* BookDumb: He admits that he doesn't read many books, other than hero stories.
* BornLucky: He's an extremely fortunate person, having been saved by Ais just as she was coming back up from an expedition and obtaining a ridiculously powerful and unheard of growth skill. This is further exemplified by the "Luck" skill he obtained after killing the Minotaur and reaching Level 2, which increases the chance of good things happening to him that might even help his friends. For instance, while visiting a casino for the first time, he manages to turn a mere three chips into ''10,800 chips'' (a difference of '''3,600 times''') by repeatedly betting on a single number on roulette. [[note]]He did this three or four times, which has a 1/48275 to [[MillionToOneChance 1 in 1,500,625 chance of happening in real life]],[[/note]] At first, Bell tries to pass this off as BeginnersLuck, but the results are increasingly obvious to him as he continues winning. [[spoiler:And that's just from the effects of the fresh Luck skill at I rank. By the time he reaches Level 4, Luck's rank had increased to F, a whole three ranks higher. Also note that Luck is classified as a Development Ability, which are notoriously hard to level up, to the point even most veterans with decades-long careers only reach rank E.]]
-->'''Bell:''' Haha... I was just lucky. ''[gets the roulette on the mark for the second time]'' Ahaha it's just luck. ''[gets another one perfectly]'' I was lucky again... ''[on the mark '''again''']'' Luc... ky?! ''[on the mark one more time, giving him a mountain of chips as he [[StunnedSilence stares on speechless]]]''\\
'''Onlookers:''' How lucky is he?!
* BornUnlucky: Bell has developed a habit of running into and fighting monsters that have greatly surpassed the limits of their own species abilities. From a Red Minotaur personality trained by Orario's strongest Adventurer to [[spoiler: a Juggernaut that ate different monsters of the 37th Floor in an attempt to kill him specifically after he severely weakened it in their second battle.]]
* CantActPervertedTowardALoveInterest: Inverted. Bell is willing to act perverted only toward Ais, it led to a GoodAngelBadAngel moment in the third volume. Lampshade by Hestia after the events of volume 5.
* CastingGag: Bell is voiced by Creator/YoshitsuguMatsuoka who is typecast as {{Stock Light Novel Hero}}es and HaremGenre protagonists. Most notably Kirito from ''Literature/SwordArtOnline''.
* TheChampion: Starting from Volume 1, he has sworn himself to Ais. Can't actually act on that, though. Even if he were strong enough, he would be BodyguardingABadass.
* ChangingYourselfForLove: Bell starts out as a HaremSeeker in search of the RescueRomance his grandpa always told him about. After he's rescued from certain death by the devastatingly beautiful and incredibly powerful adventurer Ais Wallenstein, Bell is instantly smitten with her and vows to become strong enough to stand beside her one day. His desire to catch up to her is so strong that he gets a unique MetaPowerUp that [[ExperienceBooster rapidly increases the rate at which his stats grow]] and [[BrokeTheRatingScale lets him break the usual stat caps]] so long as his feelings for her persist. Because of this, he completely drops his HaremSeeker ways and dreams of becoming a hero to earn her affection.
* ChargedAttack: Bell gets the skill Argonaut after reaching Level 2, allowing him to charge up his next physical or magical attack with a potentially enormous amount of extra power. However, he must stand still while using it, and it iniatially takes a full three minutes (later it increases to four when he hits Level 4, and to five when he becomes Level 5) to reach its maximum power, an eternity on the battlefield. Even after he becomes able to charge it while moving, he still will lose the charge if he is hit. But even a partially charged attack can gravely injure an opponent one level above him, while a fully-charged Argonaut attack is that can fell even a Floor Boss several levels above his own in a single hit.
* ChickMagnet:
** He has girls falling for him all around him thanks to his striking {{Bishonen}} looks, his sweet, mousy personality, and his reckless acts of heroism. To date, Hestia, Lili, Haruhime, Aisha, and Eina have demonstrated clear romantic interest in him, while Ais and Tione want to get to know him better.
** It works to his detriment when he gets lost in the Pleasure District while tailing Mikoto and Chigusa, as he's considered so handsome that the girls of the Ishtar Familia all want a piece of him, nearly tearing him limb from limb in a LoverTugOfWar and forcing him to flee for his life.
** In Volume 16, he's coerced by Hedin Selland of the Freya Familia into undergoing brutal TrainingFromHell in order to make him a better date for Syr. This involves forcing him to change his posture, mannerisms, and speech patterns while being forced to rescue low-level female adventurers from pass parades until he can make them swoon every time. Failure to do so would result in a beating that would leave Bell vomiting and twitching on the floor.
** [[spoiler:Even the Xenos find themselves interested in him, with Wiene being clearly in love with him while Rei demonstrates serious interest. The gods even considered changing his alias to "All Okay" as they mistakenly believed that Bell has a monster fetish.]]
* TheChosenOne:
** He comes under the attention of [[TheChooserOfTheOne Freya]] who becomes obsessed with making him stronger and nurturing him to his full potential.
** Similarly, Hermes has decided to try and make Bell "the last hero" destined to defeat the One-Eyed Black Dragon that demolished the Zeus and Hera Familia.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: He goes out of his way to help Lili, even after she betrays him and [[LeftForDead leaves him for dead]]. In general, if he can help someone, he will, even if it comes at a cost to himself. Hestia lampshades this, complaining that gods of hearth and home (i.e. herself) are less generous than he is. His desire to help others is so profound that he puts his reputation, livelihood, and life on the line [[spoiler:to protect Wiene and the Xenos with full knowledge that it would make him an enemy of adventurers everywhere.]]
* CluelessChickMagnet: He doesn't realize that there are girls falling for him left and right in his single-minded pursuit of Ais.
* ColdBloodedTorture:
** He's the victim of this in ''Memoria Freese's'' ''Literature/DateALive'' crossover, he's subjected to the receiving end of one by a fake [[spoiler:Kaguya Yamai]], which results in his bones being broken and his flesh getting ripped in front of his friends, fortunately Shido came to the rescue.
** In volume 17, in an attempt to make him hers, Freya kidnaps him and has the executives of her familia subject Bell to extremely harsh training. He ends up being constantly pushed to the brink of death and then brought back just to be beaten again everyday, all in an attempt to psychologically break him.
* CommonalityConnection: Bell is attached to Lili because he saw how lonely she was, much like him before Hestia invited him to join her familia.
* ConvenientlyAnOrphan: His only family was his grandfather who then died half a month before the start of the series.
* CovertPervert: While he's a nice guy, his goal at first was to get a harem. While he's grown out of this, he still reacts positively to marshmallow hells. In the manga, he also wants to play with Liliruca's tail, fully aware of her FantasticArousal concerning her ears.
* TheCutie: Most older characters comment on his harmless huggableness the first time they see him, especially the goddesses that interrupt his "date" with Hestia.
* DefensiveFeintTrap: In the War Game, Bell takes advantage of when Hyacinthos is, in order to lure TheBully into launching a reckless attack. It works like a charm.
* {{Determinator}}: Wants to become a high-level adventurer as soon as possible in order to catch up to Ais. In episode 11, despite his massive injuries, he singlehandedly carries an unconscious Lili and Welf to the 18th floor of the dungeon, barely getting past a boss that was in the process of respawning while also being physically exhausted.
* DismembermentIsCheap: Subverted. [[spoiler:Bell's arm gets cut off in Volume 13, but he manages to get it reattached thanks to Marie's Mermaid Blood. In Volume 14, his arm is gravely damaged as he constantly used throughout the volume to block attacks. While he covered it with a special item that was extremely resilient, the shockwaves still hurt him. By the epilogue, it was only salvable due to extensive treatments done by the best medical faction and paid for by Ouranos and Hermes. But Hestia notes that the costs of this treatment had eight zeroes in front of it and was considered a special, emergency case, as Naza, another adventurer who lost an arm, got a prosthetic instead. In fact, it is noted that if parts of his arm had been lost, the reconstruction wouldn't have been possible.]]
* DivineParentage: Downplayed. In episode 13, Hermes mentions that Bell is [[spoiler:"Zeus's grandson" as he watches Bell defeat the Black Goliath, implying that Bell's grandfather was actually one of the most prominent deities in their world. In the light novels, however, it was noted that Zeus is only his ''adopted'' grandfather, and he is as much a human as everyone else. This does explain why he was raised to be a HaremSeeker though, since Zeus is infamous for sleeping with everybody.]]
* DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale: Gets dragged into the pleasure quarters against his will, gets grabbed by Aisha and dragged into Ishtar's HQ, spends the whole night fleeing from them, and when he manages to escape and get home, he gets yelled at and punished by Hestia, who pointedly refuses to listen to anyone else speaking on his behalf and berates him so strongly he's too shaken to speak on his own behalf.
* DramaticIrony: PlayedForLaughs. Bell went into the Dungeon to make a harem only to fall for Ais and give up on it. Yet in doing so he gained a harem and is completely oblivious to it.
* DualWielding: Bell eventually becomes a dual-wielder after obtaining a second weapon to coincide with the normal dagger he started off with.
* TheDulcineaEffect: He has the habit of jumping in and endangering himself to protect girls who are total strangers to him.
* EmotionalPowers: Due to the Liaris Freese skill, his growth will accelerate depending on how strong his feelings are.
* EmpathicWeapon: The Hestia Knife grows in tandem with Bell's own growth--that is to say, it gets stronger as he does--and since his growth is fueled by his emotions and want to get better, it fits.
* EndearinglyDorky: He's so innocent and kind that many people ([[ChickMagnet mostly women]]) warm up to him almost immediately.
* EvenTheGuysWantHim: Apollo is very... ''interested'' in getting Bell to join his Familia in Volume 6.
* FamedInStory: Granted, anyone that levels up gains some small amount of renown, but Bell is especially famous for ''shattering'' the record on how fast a rookie became Level 2. His following numerous misadventures do nothing but turn him more and more into the talk of the town, and further spread his fame worldwide.
* FarmBoy: He lived and worked in a farm when he was younger.
* FirstKiss: In ''Memoria Freese'' he has his first kiss [[spoiler:stolen by Ilia. The UnwantedHarem acts about as you would expect.]]
* FriendlessBackground: He had no friends growing up on his grandpa's farm and staved off the loneliness by reading about all of the heroic tales and stories his grandpa would write down and tell him.
* GoodIsNotDumb: Bell is naive and fairly easy to manipulate, but he's far from ''dumb'', spending evenings studying the monsters in the dungeon and always looking to TakeAThirdOption when caught in a MortonsFork. He admits that he's not a genius like Ais or a tactician like Finn, but his plucky resourcefulness gets him out of more than one scrap.
* GoodIsNotSoft: We can't be sure if Bell has a strictly non-killing rule against humans/Xenos or not, (he hasn't killed anyone directly, even in critical moments), but if you press him enough he will fight you and your team and shoot all of you with a lot of Firebolts that can burn badly to end this quickly.
* HaremSeeker: Bell was one due to his grandfather's influence. Averted in the main narrative, as he is madly in love with Ais and gave up looking for a harem.
* HeroProtagonist: This is his story because the title is his goal. He wants to save girls in dungeons, and catch up to one girl in particular in power.
* HeroicLineage: Downplayed. [[spoiler:In ''Memoria Freese'', it's revealed that Bell's father and mother were members of the Zeus and Hera Familia, the two most powerful familia in the history of Orario. But his father was merely a supporter, while his mother was too sickly to leave her bed. As such, they were not truly heroes or adventurers, but their ties to Zeus and Hera continue to influence Bell's journey even if he remains unaware of their past.]]
* HeroicSecondWind: In episode 8, after getting mauled by the Minotaur, he gets this at the realization of having to be saved by Ais ''again''. He proceeded to return the favor to the Minotaur, with interest.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: He has a pretty low viewpoint of himself. Ryu outright tells him to think more highly of himself, but just telling him to will not fix this problem. Given the fact that Bell almost always fights opponents much stronger and more skilled than he is, this sort of opinion perpetuates itself.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: Subverted. Hestia notes that while he's gullible and naive, he generally has a very good read of people and their intentions. After Liliruca robs him blind and cheats him out of his hard-earned money, he continues to trust her after puzzling out her entire backstory, gambling on her becoming TheAtoner. In the anime, after nothing more than a mere look at her and a very short conversation with the adventurers extorting her, i.e., they try to recruit him to do the same, he is able to puzzle out most (if not all) of her FreudianExcuse, and he decides to stand by her, no matter what. It works.
* IDidntMeanToTurnYouOn: His reaction whenever he strokes Lili's animal appendages.
* IdealHero: Thanks to his personality and sheer determination to do what he thinks is right he often inspires those around to push even harder. The greatest example of this has to be Finn from Loki Familia who is someone who is always weighing his decisions on a scale choosing the one that will bring him closer to his goal until Bell inspired him.
* IJustWantToBeBadass: He knows his initial self looks weak and pathetic next to a powerful woman of high level like Ais. Bell wants to become a heroic figure and to be a man who is equal to Ais in power. He got the Skill Argonaut due to the former.
* ImmuneToMindControl:
** Ishtar's attempts to charm him with her sex powers completely fail because Liaris Freese makes him immune to charms thanks to it being powered by his SingleTargetSexuality for Ais.
** This is later revealed to work on ''all'' seduction-based mental attacks, as the singing of mermaids on the middle floors fails to affect him, much to his own surprise.
* InconsistentSpelling: Creator/YenPress insists his surname has two L's.
* IncorruptiblePurePureness:
** Prior to defeating the Minotaur, Bell's soul was ''almost'' completely pure. Bell's memory of the Minotaur traumatized him and prevented him from truly fulfilling this trope, as Freya explains to Ottar. ''After'' defeating the Minotaur...
--->It was shining.\\
Bell's spirit shone through.\\
Bright enough to burn his image in Freya's eyes.\\
Despite being so radiant, the light from his soul was still clear.\\
A pure wish.
** Bell's pure and unending wish to catch up to Ais and stand by her side lets him NoSell Ishtar's CharmPerson ability, because Bell Cranel's Skill makes him too pure to be swayed by the glamour of even a goddess.
** It's also the reason why Ais is so obsessed with him, as his pureness reminds her of her past self. She goes to great lengths to ensure that he stays pure.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Hestia asks Bell if he'd elope with a beautiful goddess if she came up to him one day and confessed to him. Although it's blatantly obvious to everyone else that she's referring to herself, Bell innocently refuses. He explains that [[CluelessChickMagnet such a thing would never happen to him]] and even if it did, he would never be worthy of being romantically involved with someone so above him in status.
* InSeriesNickname:
** Bete calls him "Tomato Kid" after an incident where a slain Minotaur's blood spilled all over him and he ran around town all red.
** Tiona calls him "Little Argonaut" after the fight against the Minotaur, comparing Bell with the story's hero.
** Since the sixth novel it seems everyone on Orario refers to him as "[[AnimalMotifs Rabbit]]". For example, he being chased is referred by townspeople as a "rabbit chase", while some chasers refer to him as such to his face.
* InsecureLoveInterest: As much as Bell loves and respects Ais, he also feels unworthy to stand by her side unless he gets much stronger. Interestingly enough, this also applies to Hestia, as well. Besides his lack of interest, Bell opposed the idea of getting into a relationship with a Goddess because of a combination of [[UndyingLoyalty his devotion to her under the belief that gods are above everyone]] and [[MayflyDecemberRomance the vast difference between their lifespans.]] Hestia herself doesn't seem to mind, claiming that even when Bell does die, she'll come looking for him, no matter how long it takes.
* IntrinsicVow: From the prologue onward, Bell is devoted only towards Ais. It's hard to imagine him ever giving up Ais for anyone else. [[spoiler:For this reason, he is able to ignore a goddess of beauty's CharmPerson ability, which no other mortal is known to be able to do.]]
[[/folder]]
[[folder:K-Y]]
* {{Keet}}: Pretty easily excitable. Especially when he gets new weapons and magic.
* KidHero: Only 14 years old, yet he's also one of the most well-known adventurers in Orario. His youth is also PlayedForDrama, as his lack of experience contributes to many of his worst traits, namely his cowardice, indecisiveness, and naivety, requiring guidance from Hestia, Lili, and Welf to avoid getting scammed and hurt.
* KillerRabbit: His albinism, good looks, and mousy personality earn him plenty of comments comparing him to rabbits, but he's also growing faster than any other adventurer in history, and soon becomes a formidable adventurer in his own right.
* KnightInShiningArmor: He's got the personality of one, the noble and virtuous fairy tale sort of hero. He strives to become the toughest version of this. Incidentally, he favors light armor instead of the traditional plate.
* LightningBruiser: Within the series, the stats of a person with a status can go from 0 to 999. However, most people reach B (700s) at the very best; practically nobody hits S rank (900s) and reaching it in just one stat is an extraordinary accomplishment. Besides that, everyone tends to have one or more stats dramatically lower than the rest. In contrast, thanks to his Skill Liaris Freese, Bell can not only raise all his stats to S rank, but even go ''beyond'' it. Something supposed to be impossible that even the [[BadassCrew Loki and Freya Familias]] can't do. In all his known final statuses his stats are all at SS (1000-1199), except for Agility that is always SSS rank (1200+). At Level 4, his final stats were all SSS rank, the highest being SSS 1501. Because of it, Bell has the prowess to stand against opponents one level above him, proving inferior to them mainly due to being less skilled, and has even defeated a few. The effect just increases with each passing level.
* LikesOlderWomen: Not deliberately, but every girl that Bell (14 years old) has an emotionally significant attachment to women that are significantly older than him, from Eina (19 years old), Hestia (''thousands'' of years old) to Ais (16 years old), the love of his life. His childish personality, however, causes the first to initially see him as a younger brother and the last one to think of him as a "rabbit pet".
* LimitBreak: Bell, very rarely, has been able to enter an empowered state called Limit Off. So far, only three times: [[spoiler:In Volume 5 against the Black Goliath,]] [[spoiler:in Sword Oratoria Volume 12 against Enyo's Nidhogg,]] and [[spoiler:in Volume 18 against Ottar.]]
* LovableCoward: His aw-shucks modesty, indecisiveness, and lack of confidence in himself leads him to try and run away from most of his problems in his early days as an adventurer. In fact, he spends so much time running away that by the time he reaches Level 4, he gains the Escape development ability, improving his already impressive speed so long as he's running away from something. Despite this, he finds reasons to stand his ground when the chips are down, upon which he can become recklessly brave when fighting for the sake of someone else, turning him into a CowardlyLion.
* LoveAtFirstSight: It took only one look for Bell to fall hopelessly in love with Ais.
* LuckStat: Eventually gains a "Luck" stat down the line, which will allow him to possibly pull off a justified DeusExMachina or two. Hestia even alludes to this, pointing out that it probably is a sort of "divine protection".
* LuckyRabbitsFoot: He may not be an actual rabbit, or even a Hume Bunny, but people have called him a lucky rabbit on at least one occasion, such as when he was at a casino and had such a spectacular winning streak all onlookers were shocked. Syr even sought for his presence in a high-stakes gambling game to improve their odds of winning. [[spoiler:As if to lampshade this, his new alias is "Rabbit's Foot" after reaching Level 4 from his duel with Asterios.]]
* LuminescentBlush: Whenever Ais is in the picture, as well as when Hestia gets a little too flirtatious.
* MagneticHero: A more subdued example. He is willing to risk his life to protect his comrades who are also often just as ostracized as he was. He has earned the enmity of many though.
* MagicKnight: Bell is primarily a close-combat fighter given his specialty in handling knives, but between Firebolt and Argonaut, he packs serious magical firepower too.
* MarshmallowHell: He's subjected to having his head in between a girl's chest a few times, but hilariously he's reacted positively to them.
* MetaPowerup: His skill, "Liaris Freese" enables him to increase his stats at a quicker rate. It also lets him break the limit impossible to break for anyone else, with most of his stats hitting Rank SS and at least Agility reaching SSS when Rank S is usually considered the pinnacle of power.
* MistakenForGay: At one point, by Ais herself. She believed that the "person he wanted to catch up to" was Bete, since they were both speed-type blade users (not realizing that she herself is a speed-type blade user). To her credit, she's not fond of that theory.
* MrImagination: Not in the modern "Chuunibyou" sense as he's in an fantasy universe, but he is too much into the heroes in Myth/ClassicalMythology.
* MyGreatestFailure: Views having to get rescued by Ais from a Minotaur as this. As a result, he constantly tries to get stronger so that he'll never need to be rescued like that ever again, in addition to catching up to her in terms of skills and strength. The thought of having to be saved by her ''again'' from a Minotaur ''again'' was what triggered his HeroicSecondWind when previously he was just getting brutalized by the monster.
* NiceGuy: One of the nicest guy the series has to offer.
* NotDistractedByTheSexy: He never gets it when women try to pick him up or flirt with him.
* ObliviousToLove: Utterly fails to pick up on Hestia's and Syr's affection for him, and they can't be blamed for being too subtle, given the outright {{Love Confession}}s they each gave him.
* OnlyTheChosenMayWield: His "Hestia Knife" is only useful if he's wielding it, due to Hestia's blessing being imprinted on the weapon. Liliruca is shocked to find out it was worth maybe 30 [[FictionalCurrency valis]] when she tried to pawn it off after stealing it from him, whereas a typical generic weapon would be worth hundreds or thousands of valis.
* ParalyzingFearOfSexuality: As much as he loves {{Marshmallow Hell}}s, and has quite an active "[[CovertPervert imagination]]", if a woman genuinely comes on to him, even his beloved Ais, he shrieks and tries to run away. This is sometimes PlayedForLaughs, like with the aforementioned Ais, and sometimes played for drama, as with the Ishtar familia.
* ParryingBullets: Bell gets strong and fast enough to a point that he can use his knife to cut through projectiles fired by monsters.
* PhosphorEssence: Overlaps with this trope since Argonaut is a highly personal skill, reflecting one quality of Bell's personality; Being pure [[IncorruptiblePurePureness right down to the soul]].
* PlayingWithFire: He gains the "Firebolt" spell after reading a spell book.
* PleasePutSomeClothesOn: Since seduction charms don't work on him, his only reaction to seeing Ishtar naked was asking her to put her clothes back on.
* PowerGlows: When he uses his Argonaut skill, the part of his body or weapon he is charging it in glows. In the anime, when he used it while empowered by the [[LimitBreak Limit Off]] state, his whole body turned white.
* PowerOfTrust: He turns his party members from mere acquaintances into TrueCompanions by giving them his trust when any rational person wouldn't. It has certainly worked with Liliruca and Welf Crozzo.
* PrettyBoy:
** Implied. InformedAttractiveness is an epidemic in this series; you can never really be sure how attractive anyone is until you hear them described. Bell's case was worse than most because as the viewpoint character we never really do. That said, in Sword Oratoria, when Lefiya first bumps into him, he's said to have [[PurpleProse "rubellite eyes"]] and [[PurpleProse "snow white hair"]]. He's never outright stated to be attractive, but it seems that if he's not a bishonen already, he ''will'' be in a couple of years. Meanwhile, he's ''drawn'' as more generically moe.
** Hestia adores his "cool looks" while Haruhime also calls him handsome. Aisha also calls him handsome and attractive and wants to take him back to her bedroom after he bumps into her in the Pleasure District, as does the rest of the Ishtar Familia.
** Side materials and spin-offs like ''VideoGame/MemoriaFreese'' put Bell in more fanciful outfits give him a neater hairstyle to draw out his full pretty boy looks.
* RedBaron: After defeating a Minotaur and reaching Level 2, he is given the nickname "Record Holder" for reaching Level 2 faster than anyone else in history (the next fastest person, Ais, took a year). He also gets the less impressive alias "Little Rookie" by the gods, but given what was seen in the Light Novels, it could have been a hell of a lot worse. After reaching Level 4 his alias is changed to Rabbit Foot to acknowledge his speed and the rate at which he climbed levels. It also refers to his good luck.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Bell isn't villainous, but get him determined enough and he's most certainly dangerous.
* RescueRomance: He falls super hard for Ais when she saves him from a Minotaur that her party let escape. Later on, he doesn't appear to notice that he became the rescuer for Lili, and that she is in love with him.
* ReverseGrip: Unusually for a {{Light Novel|s}} or {{Shonen}} protagonist, he favors fighting with agility and knives held icepick-style. He wields a special dagger known as the Hestia Knife that conducts magic, and has had other knives made by Welf from Minotaur and later unicorn horn.
* RhymingNames: B''ell'' Cran''el''. It certainly helps sell his "cute" character.
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl:
** In the anime, particularly in episode 7 when he tries to dodge Ais and lands his face in her rear. He absolutely screeches. It has to be [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TR93f4XZGJQ heard to be believed.]]
** It is outright stated in Volume 7 that he sounded like Hestia when he screamed.
* ScrewThisImOutOfHere: For several episodes, whenever he saw Ais, his reaction is to run away. It isn't until Eina brings Ais in and his escape gets barricaded does he finally get to talk to Ais.
* SingleTargetSexuality: He's so in love with Ais that he doesn't notice the other female character's affections towards him. [[spoiler:Actually becomes an important plot point when Bell is staring down Ishtar, a goddess of beauty. She's unable to charm him as a result of his single-minded quest to impress Ais.]]
* SituationalSword: He later obtains the Ox Slayer skill, which greatly ramps up his stats whenever he's up against any "bull-type" monster. This primarily extends to minotaurs. The trigger for this skill's manifestation is [[spoiler:his desire to defeat Asterius after losing to him.]]
* SkewedPriorities: He becomes an adventurer in the hopes of one day rescuing a DamselInDistress and beginning a RescueRomance. There are some glaring problems with this plan and the first is that any girl he finds in the Dungeon will almost certainly be a ActionGirl, and thus unlikely to need rescuing.
* StockLightNovelHero: Bell seems to be a cross between this and StockShonenHero. He starts off being deemed weak by everyone and rejected from most familia, which led him to a steep learning curve of training to increasing his power and actually has to be rescued a number of times throughout the story. However he is able to [[TookALevelInBadass rapidly grow in strength compared to everyone else]] due to his unique skill "Liaris Freese", going from being overwhelmed by a Minotaur to being the one to defeat the borderline HopelessBossFight. While he is introduced as a HaremSeeker who goes dungeon crawling to try and pick up girls, this gets dropped early on and he ends up being a ChickMagnet who acquires his own UnwantedHarem. Unlike most light novel protagonists, his physical appearance stands out due to being an albino and he doesn't belong to any modern society which is reflected in his fashion. In addition, while he isn't exactly an IdiotHero he has been known to have a HorribleJudgeOfCharacter, being naive and overly trusting.
* StockShonenHero: As mentioned above, Bell takes aspects from both this and StockLightNovelHero. His Shonen traits come from how he started off very weak and overshadowed by everyone, before working gradually towards becoming stronger. He's also quite cheerful and while not quite an IdiotHero does tend to be blissfully ignorant. Also, his appearance heavily stands out with him being albino with AnimeHair.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: According to an AlternateUniverse short story, [[spoiler:Bell's aunt Alfia]] says he got all of his looks from his mother, from his hair, to his face, to his smile. The only thing he got from his father are his red eyes.
* SuperGullible:
** Bell is very easily lured in by gestures of kindness. Hestia worries about him as he got conned by Lili before her HeelFaceTurn, while Lili is concerned he has fallen for it again with Welf.
** In Volume 4, Bell does a quest for Naza to obtain a rare potion ingredient that can be sold for 9,000 valis. He's delighted to find that the reward is 24 potions, a value of 12,000 valis that more than makes up the value. But a quick taste test from Lili confirms that these potions are watered down and their combined value is no more than 4,800 valis. Bell is disheartened that a child from Miach's Familia and a friend of his would rip him off like this.
* SuperpowerLottery:
** His "Liaris Freese" skill, which even the author refers to as "game breaking". It lets him to [[LevelGrinding level grind]] extremely quickly, allowing him to become a Level 2 Adventurer in a month. The average time it takes someone to rank up, if they even do so (more than half of all adventurers are still Level 1), is unknown, but Naaza, a friend of Bell, took six years to do so. The former record is ''one year''! And ''that'' was previously held by ''[[ChildProdigy Ais]]''.
** Taken even further down the line when he hits Level 3 within a month after reaching Level 2... [[spoiler:and then hitting ''Level 4'' in ''two months'' after that!]] For reference, most adventurers don't even get to Level 2, and many of the Level 3 and 4 adventurers in the story are in their twenties and thirties.
** [[spoiler:He finally hits Level 5 in half a year since he became an adventurer. This officially also makes him a first-class adventurer, of which there are less than forty in the entire city. He is part of Orario's "elite", a.k.a. one of the strongest of the strongest city in the world.]]
** His second skill, Argonaut, is even more ridiculous, as a fully-charged shot can easily obliterate monsters several levels above him in overall prowess. [[spoiler:When he was just Level 2, it completely destroyed the upper body of the Level 5 Black Goliath. When he was Level 4, it annihilated Enyo's "trump card", the Nidhogg.]]
* SuperSpeed: His highest stat is Agility because of his speed-based fighting style, and his fleet-footedness contributes to his reputation as being rabbit-like.
* TearsOfFear: At the start, he was scared of Minotaurs due to nearly being killed by one at the outset of the story. [[spoiler:He gets over it after killing the Minotaur sent after him by Ottar, later going on to kill Minotaurs by the bunch.]]
* TookALevelInBadass: Actively grinding them:
** He starts off with just a normal dagger, but has gained new skills, magic, weapons, and armor, ever since.
** He goes from screaming in fear from a Minotaur to [[spoiler:felling a Silverback, an eleventh floor monster, by himself. And in episode 8, he defeats an even tougher Minotaur himself, utilizing all the training, equipment, and skills he's acquired up to that point.]] Everyone present during that scene was entirely shocked by how fast he's grown.
** In Volume 6, he was able to go from being completely shut-down by the Level 3 Hyacinthus, to fighting on par with Hyacinthus (even surpassing him in terms of speed), in the span of one week. Only from training with Tiona and Ais.
** [[spoiler: In Volume 7, he goes from being beat-down by Aisha alone, to giving a ''literal'' beatdown to Phryne, making her fall through a stone floor, and then immediately afterward facing Aisha one on one to beat her down with an ElementalPunch to the gut.]]
** [[spoiler:In Volume 11, he's able to hold his own against a level 7 threat despite being many levels below Asterius at the time. Though, it should be noted his opponent was extremely handicapped by the lost of one arm and other grave injuries in addition to exhaustion, and also deliberately left Bell alive for a rematch.]]
** In Volume 12/the beginning of Season 4, Bell has appropriately ranked up to level 4. His power up is apparent to his team by the impressive Argonaut Firebolt he launches in the first episode, but it's underscored by his more mature and leader-like demeanor. He's no longer a rookie.
* TrueCompanions: When he makes friends, he makes them for life. Welf and Lili are fiercely loyal to him and all three would be willing to risk death for each other.
* TurnTheOtherCheek: It has yet to be shown anyone who has ''earned'' Bell's grudge, and people have done some truly horrific things to him, and his loved ones.
* TwiceShy: He is attracted to Ais, but unable to tell her this because he feels unworthy of standing next to her. Ais feels pretty much the same way, but is too unsure of how to handle of her emotions to speak her mind.
* UnskilledButStrong:
** A variation. Bell is more of the self-trained version of the trope, as since he was the only member of his familia there was nobody to teach him. It's only after training with Ais that he gains the skills needed to fight effectively. Even then, he still struggles against senior human opponents. Ais later gives him some tips, (namely on how to feint) but never an actual fighting style, letting him learn through their sparring sessions. Partially because of her own lack of skill as an instructor.
** In Volume 8 this is {{Averted|Trope}}, too: Eina notes that he fought on par with adventurers of his level in spite of the fact that he had far less experience.
** By Volume 10, however, he is back to it. ''Relatively'' though. As his major opponents are all first-class adventurers, the most skilled figthers of the city with years of experience, he is significantly inferior to his adversaries. He also loses to some second-class adventurers, namely Ryuu and Freya Familia's Level 4s, though the former is an outstanding prodigy and in the latter case they are members of the strongest faction, which also specializes in fights between people.
* UnwantedHarem: Bell's sheer niceness has both Hestia and Lili falling for him (his cute looks also help). Even Eina, who is trained to not get attached to any particular adventurers, can't help but feel some level of attraction towards him, though it isn't clear if its romantic or not. There's even the goddesses who followed Hestia on her date who all take a liking to Bell and form a mob around him much to his confusion. Volume 7 starts off with an Amazoness of the Ishtar Familia taking a liking to him, dragging him off to the Familia home, and him getting mobbed by the many Amazoness in the Familia who all want to have their way with him. The girls at the Hostess of Fertility also admire his tush and lament that Syr had gotten engaged to "Bell" earlier that day. Unfortunately for all of them, the only girl Bell wants is Ais and unfortunately for Bell, Ais is pretty much the only girl who has yet to show clear romantic interest in him.
* WhiteIsPure: His albinism symbolizes his IncorruptiblePurePureness. The rest of the cast gets this, which is why he's so well-liked.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: He's understandably frightened by Minotaurs, given that he was almost killed by one. When Freya and Ottar realized this, the former had the latter find and train a Minotaur to unleash on Bell to force him to grow past his fear and become a better adventurer. Bell almost died, but he ''succeeded'' in defeating the Minotaur, and every Minotaur after that did not instill fear in Bell the way the first and second did.
* WorthyOpponent: The Xenos Asterius considers Bell to be his greatest rival despite being far stronger than Bell [[spoiler:because in his past life he was the Minotaur Bell faced on the 9th floor.]]
* YouMonster: In the ''VideoGame/MemoriaFreese'' campaign ''Winter Magic Miracle'', he screams this towards [[spoiler: [[CanonForeigner Vitteaux]] after discovering the latter's true colors]].
* YouRemindMeOfX: When he regains consciousness and finds Ais Wallenstein giving him a LapPillow, he initially mistakes her for his mother.

* AccidentalPervert:
* ChickMagnet:
* TheChosenOne:
* ColdBloodedTorture:
* ImmuneToMindControl:
* IncorruptiblePurePureness:
** Prior to defeating the Minotaur, Bell's soul was ''almost'' completely pure. Bell's memory of the Minotaur traumatized him and prevented him from truly fulfilling this trope, as Freya explains to Ottar. ''After'' defeating the Minotaur...
--->It was shining.\\
* InSeriesNickname:
* PrettyBoy:
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl:
* SuperGullible:
* SuperpowerLottery:
* TookALevelInBadass: Actively grinding them:
* UnskilledButStrong:

Even after he becomes able to charge it while moving, he still will lose the carge if he is hit. But even a partially charged attack can gravely injure an opponent one level above him, while a fully-charged Argonaut attack is that can fell even a Floor Boss several levels above his own in a single hit.

* DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale: Gets dragged into the pleasure quarters against his will, gets grabbed by Aisha and dragged into Ishtar's HQ, spends the whole night fleeing from them, and when he manages to escape and get home, he gets yelled at, and punished, by Hestia, who pointedly refuses to listen to anyone else speaking on his behalf and berates him so strongly he's too shaken to speak on his own behalf.

* FamedInStory: Granted, anyone that levels up gains some small amount of renown, but Bell is especially famous for ''shattering'' the record on how fast a rookie became Level 2. * GoodIsNotSoft: We can't be sure if Bell has a strictly non-killing rule against humans/Xenos or not, (he hasn't killed anyone directly, even in critical moments), but if you press him enough he will fight you and your team and shoot all of you a lot of Firebolts that can burn badly to end this quickly.

In the anime, after nothing more than a mere look at her and a very short conversation with the adventurers extorting her, ie, they try to recruit him to do the same, he is able to puzzle out most (if not all) of her FreudianExcuse, and he decides to stand by her, no matter what. It works.

* KnightInShiningArmor: He's got the personality of one, the noble and virteous fairy tail sort of hero. He strives to become the toughest version of this. Incidentally, he favors light armor instead of the traditional plate.
* LightningBruiser: Within the serie, the stats of a person with a status can go from 0 to 999.
His childish personality, however, causes the first to iniatially see him as a younger brother and the last one to think of him as a "rabbit pet".

Volume 7 starts off with an Amazoness of the Ishtar Familia taking a liking to him, dragging him off to the Familia home, and him getting mobbed by the many Amazonesses in the Familia who all want to have their way with him.

* ChargedAttack: Bell gets the skill Argonaut after reaching Level 2, allowing him to charge up his next physical or magical attack with a potentially enormous amount of extra power. However, he must stand still while using it, and it iniatially takes a full three minutes (later it increases to four whenhe hits Level 4, and to five when he becomes Level 5) to reach its maximum power, an eternity on the battlefield. Even after he becomes able to charge it while moving, he still will lose the carge if he is hit. But even a partially charged attack can be gravely injure an opponent one level above him, while a fully-charged Argonaut attack is referred to as a "Hero's Strike" that can fell even a Floor Boss several levels above his own in a single hit.

** In Volume 16, he's coerced by Hedin Salland of the Freya Familia into undergoing brutal TrainingFromHell in order to make him a better date for Syr. This involves forcing him to change his posture, mannerisms, and speech patterns while being forced to rescue low-level female adventurers from pass parades until he can make them swoon every time. Failure to do so would result in a beating that would leave Bell vomiting and twitching on the floor.

!!'''Bell Cranel'''
[[quoteright:256:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bell_zenshin.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/YoshitsuguMatsuoka (JP), Creator/BrysonBaugus (English), Diego Santos (Latin America)\\\

* AccidentalPervert:
Bell's snow-white hair and red eyes remind others of the cute, but dangerous almiraj ([[KillerRabbit a rabbit with a horn on its head]]) monsters that inhabit the middle floors of the dungeon — this adds to his "pure" and "rabbit-like" appearance that others find endearing and cute, while Hestia, who is head over heels for him, considers them part of his "cool looks".
In fact, [[spoiler:he is so all-loving that he is willing to alienate the entirety of Oratoria and jeopardize his reputation to save the sentient monster Wiene.]]
* AllMenArePerverts: Downplayed. He may not be willing to cross certain lines such as deliberately peeking on naked women, but he certainly doesn't mind being subjected to MarshmallowHell from a goddess like Demeter.
* AlmightyJanitor: Downplayed. [[spoiler:He takes on Asterius, a Black Rhinos Xenos rated as a Level 7 threat, on his own even while he's a Level 3 (though he had the stats of a Level 4 thanks to Haruhime's Uchide no Kozuchi and [[DramaPreservingHandicap Asterius was at death's door thanks to Ais]]). He loses, but the fact that he's even alive at all is amazing (but this is partially due to Asterius' sense of honor and desire for an even greater rematch once they're both stronger).]]
* AmazonChaser: He chases after the Sword Princess Ais to one day be on the same level as her.
* AnimalMotifs: Bell often gets compared to a WhiteBunny--makes sense due to his albinism and LightningBruiser style of combat.
* {{BFS}}: He gets one later on.
** In ''Memoria Freese'' the Hestia Knife gets a Greatsword variant crafted to help him fight against the current threat.
Also note that Luck is classified as a Development Skill, which are notoriously hard to rank up because their rank doesn't get reset upon level up like every other stat.]]
* CastingGag: Bell is voiced by Creator/YoshitsuguMatsuoka who is typecast as {{Stock Light Novel Hero}}es and HaremGenre protagonists. Most notably Kirito from ''LightNovel/SwordArtOnline''.
* CantActPervertedTowardALoveInterest: Inverted. Bell is willing to act perverted only toward Ais, it led to a GoodAngelBadAngel moment in the third volume. Lampshade by Hestia after the events of volume 5.
However, he must stand still while using it, and it takes a full two minutes to reach its maximum power, an eternity on the battlefield. But even a partially charged attack can be on par with Short-Chant Magic, while a fully-charged Argonaut attack is referred to as a "Hero's Strike" that can fell even a Floor Boss in a single hit.
* ChickMagnet:
** [[spoiler:Even the Xenos find themselves interested in him, with Wiene being clearly in love with him while Rei demonstrates serious interest. The gods even consider changting his alias to [[AnythingThatMoves "All Okay"]] as they mistaken believe that Bell has a monster fetish.]]
* TheChosenOne:
* ColdBloodedTorture:
** Phryne subjects him to this after she captures him in hopes of breaking him physically and mentally to turn him into her sex toy.
** He's the victim of this in ''Memoria Freese's'' ''LightNovel/DateALive'' crossover, he's subjected to the receiving end of one by a fake [[spoiler:Kaguya Yamai]], which results in his bones being broken and his flesh getting ripped in front of his friends, fortunately Shido came to the rescue.
* TheCutie: Most older characters comment on this the first time they see him, especially the goddesses that interrupt his "date" with Hestia.
* DefensiveFeintTrap: In the War Games, at least in the anime, he deliberately drops his Hestia Knife in front of Hyacinth, in order to lure TheBully into launching a reckless attack.
[[spoiler:Bell's arm gets cut off in Volume 13, but in the epilogue of Volume 14, he manages to get it reattached and rebuilt thanks to Marie's Mermaid Blood and extensive treatments paid for by Ouranos and Hermes. But Hestia notes that the costs of this treatment had eight zeroes in front of it and was considered a special, emergency case, as Naza, another adventurer who lost an arm, got a prosthetic instead.]]
* DivineParentage: Downplayed. In episode 13, Hermes mentions that Bell is [[spoiler:"Zeus's grandson" as he watches Bell defeat the Goliath, implying that Bell's grandfather was actually the most powerful deity in their world. In the light novels, however, it was noted that Zeus is only his ''adopted'' grandfather, and he is as much a human as everyone else. This does explain why he was raised to be a HaremSeeker though, since Zeus is infamous for [[AnythingThatMoves sleeping with everybody]].]]
* FarmBoy: He lived and worked in a farm when he was younger.
* FirstKiss: In ''Memoria Freese'' he has his first kiss [[spoiler:stolen by Ilia. The UnwantedHarem acts about as about you would expect.]]
* FragileSpeedster: He relies mainly on his speed and doesn't like to take hits thus his Endurance stat is very low while his Agility stat is his best.
* GutFeeling: Bell is very quick to determine who is and is not a good candidate for being a member of his party, not to mention his Familia, on first glance, despite not knowing anything about that person, or even at times that someone more rational might turn them away, and would be justified in doing so. He has yet to regret his decisions.
* HaremSeeker: Bell was one due to his grandfather's influence. Averted as of now, as he is madly in love with Ais and gave up looking for a harem.
* HeroProtagonist: This is his story because the title is his goal.
* HeroicLineage: Downplayed. [[spoiler:In ''Memoria Freese'', it's revealed that Bell's father and mother were members of the Zeus and Hera Familia, the two most powerful familia in the history of Orario. But his father was merely a supporter, while his mother was an IllGirl too sickly to leave her bed.
In the anime, after nothing more than a mere look at her and a very short conversation with the adventurers extorting her, ie, they try to recruit him to do the same, he is able to puzzle out most (if not all) of her FreudianExcuse, and he decides to stand by her, no matter what.
Bell wants to become a heroic figure so he can be a man who is equal to Ais in power. He got the Skill Argonaut due to this.
* ImmuneToMindControl:
* IncorruptiblePurePureness:
** Prior to defeating the minotaur, Bell's soul was ''almost'' completely pure. Bell's memory of the minotaur traumatized him and prevented him from truly fulfilling this trope, as Freya explains to Ottar. ''After'' defeating the minotaur...
--->It was shining.\\
* InnocentCohabitation: Lives with Hestia. Hestia of course wishes it wasn't so innocent. Later joined by Lili, Welf and Mikoto.
* InSeriesNickname:
For example, he being chased is referred by townpeople as a "rabbit chase", while some chasers refers him as such to his face.
* InsecureLoveInterest: As much as Bell loves and respects Ais, he also feels unworthy to stand by her side unless he gets much stronger. Interestingly enough, this also applies to Hestia, as well. It's implied that one of the reasons why Bell doesn't respond to her feelings is a combination of [[UndyingLoyalty his devotion to her under the belief that gods are above everyone]] and [[MayflyDecemberRomance the vast difference between their lifespans.]] Hestia herself doesn't seem to mind, claiming that even when Bell does die, she'll come looking for him, no matter how long it takes.
* IntrinsicVow: From the prologue onward, Bell is devoted only towards Ais. It's hard to imagine him ever giving up Ais for anyone else. [[spoiler:For this reason, he is able to ignore a goddess of beauty's CharmPerson ability, which was previously thought to be impossible.]]

* KnifeNut: He wields a special dagger known as the Hestia Knife.
* KnightInShiningArmor: He's got the personality of one, the noble and virteous fairy tail sort of hero. He strives to become the toughest version of this. Incidentally, he favors light armor instead of the traditional plate.
* LightningBruiser: After his training with Ais, his stats are S with Magic at B, his Agility is SS. As a Level 2, his stats are SS in Volume 6, with Magic at A and Agility at SSS. To put this in perspective, the [[BadassCrew Loki Familia]] didn't even ''know'' that stats went above S.
* LikesOlderWomen: Not deliberately, but every girl that Bell (14 years old) has an emotionally significant attachment to are significantly older than him, from Eina (19 years old), Hestia (''thousands'' of years old) to Ais (16 years old), the love of his life. His childish personality, however, causes these relationships to invariably be one between a big sister and little brother rather than lovers proper.
* LimitBreak: Argonaut. It makes him shine white while a [[JustForPun bell]] tolls, and then he releases huge amounts of energy in one strike. [[spoiler:It nearly vaporizes the Goliath that appears in Episode 13.]]
* LovableCoward: His aw-shucks modesty, indecisiveness, and lack of confidence in himself leads him to try and run away from most of his problems in his early days as an adventurer. In fact, he spends so much time running away that by the time he reaches Level 4, he gains the Escape developmental ability, improving his already impressive speed so long as he's running away from something. Despite this, he finds reasons to stand his ground when the chips are down, upon which he can become recklessly brave when fighting for the sake of someone else, turning him into a CowardlyLion.
* LoveAtFirstSight: It took only one look for Bell to fall hopelessly in love with Ais.
* LoveYouAndEverybody: In the anime, Hestia tries to extract a love confession out of him, only for Bell to reply that he truly loves and appreciates everyone in his familia, which is quickly reciprocated by everyone else. [[BestFriend Even Welf.]]
* LuckStat: Eventually gains a "Luck" stat down the line, which will allow him to possibly pull off a justified DeusExMachina or two.
He has earned the enmity of many though, and his reputation does not discourage others from taking advantage of him or trying to rob him.
* MetaPowerup: His skill, "Liaris Freese enables him to increase his stats at a quicker rate. It also lets him break the usual limit far more quickly, with most of his stats hitting Rank SS and sometimes SSS when Rank S is usually considered the pinnacle of power.
* ObliviousToLove: Utterly fails to pick up on Hestia and Syr's affection for him, and they can't be blamed for being too subtle, given the outright {{Love Confession}}s they each gave him.
* OnlyTheChosenMayWield: His "Hestia Knife" is only useful if he's wielding it, due to Hestia's blessing being imprinted on the weapon. Lililuka is shocked to find out it was worth maybe 30 [[FictionalCurrency valis]] when she tried to pawn it off after stealing it from him, whereas a typical generic weapon would be worth hundreds or thousands of valis.
* PhosphorEssence: Overlaps with this trope since Argonaut is a highly personal skill, reflecting one quality of Bell's personality; Being pure [[IncorruptiblePurePureness right down to the soul]].
* PlayingWithFire: He gains the "Firebolt" spell after reading a spell-book.
* PleasePutSomeClothesOn: Since seduction charms don't work on him, his only reaction to seeing Ishtar naked is asking her to put her clothes back on.
* PowerGlows: When he uses the Argonaut skill, his arm glows, and when he uses [[LimitBreak Hero's Strike]], his whole body turns white.
* PowerOfTrust: He turns his party members from mere acquaintances into TrueCompanions by giving them his trust when any rational person wouldn't. It has certainly worked with Liliruca and Welf Crozzo.
* PrettyBoy:
* RedBaron: After defeating a Minotaur and reaching Level 2, the gods dub him "Record Holder" for reaching Level 2 faster than anyone else in history (the next fastest person, Ais, took a year). He also gets the less impressive "Little Rookie", but given what was seen in the Light Novels, it could have been a hell of a lot worse. After reaching level 4 he loses the Little Rookie nickname which gets replaced by Rabbit Foot to acknowledge his speed and the rate at which he climbed levels.
* RhymingNames: B''ell'' Cran''el''. It certainly helps sell his "cute" character.
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: In the anime, particularly in episode 7 when he tries to dodge Ais and lands his face in her rear.
* SituationalSword: He later obtains the Ox Slayer skill, which greatly ramps up his stats whenever he's up against anything that can be classified as an ox. This primarily extends to minotaurs. The most likely trigger for this skill's manifestation is [[spoiler:his desire to defeat Asterius after losing to him.]]
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Creator/YenPress insists his surname has two L's.
* SuperGullible:
* SuperpowerLottery:
** His "Liaris Freese" skill, which Hestia mentions is a pretty rare skill to have. It lets him to [[LevelGrinding level grind]] extremely quickly, allowing him to become a Level 2 Adventurer in a month. We have not really received any frame of reference for as to what a normal rate of growth is, but the former record is ''one year''!
** His second skill, Argonaut, is even more ridiculous, as a fully-charged shot can easily obliterate monsters several levels above him in capability. [[spoiler:When he was just Level 2, it completely destroyed the upper body of the Level 5 Goliath. When he's Level 4, it annihilates the ''Level 8+'' Nidhogg.]]
* SuperSpeed: His highest stat is Agility because of all the running away he does, and his fleet-footedness contributes to his reputation as being rabbit-like.
* TearsOfFear: At the start, he was scared of minotaurs due to nearly being killed by one at the outset of the story. [[spoiler:He mostly gets over it after killing the minotaur sent after him by Ottar, later going on to kill minotaur by the bunch.]]
* ThreeAmigos: Has this relationship with Lili and Welf, who are his closest friends and first business partners. Having saved Lili's life and given Welf the recognition his work needed, the three of them stand out as the most closely knit members of the familia.
* TookALevelInBadass: Actively grinding them:
** He starts off with just a normal dagger, but has gained new skills, spells, weapons, and armor, ever since.
** In Volume 6, he was able to go from being completely shut-down by the Level 3 Hyacinthus, to fighting on par then exceeding Hyacinthus in every aspect, in the span of one week. Only from training with Tiona and Ais.
** [[spoiler: In Volume 7, he goes from being beat-down by Aisha alone, to giving a ''literal'' beatdown to Phryne, smashing her through a stone floor, and then immediately afterward facing Aisha one on one to beat her down with an ElementalPunch to the gut.]]
** [[spoiler:In Volume 11, he's able to hold his own against a level 7 threat despite being so many levels below Asterius at the time.]]
** In Volume 12/the beginning of Season 4, Bell has appropriately ranked up to level 4. His power up is apparent to his team by the impressive Argonaut Firebolt he launches in the first episode, but it's underscored by his more mature and leaderlike demeanor.
* UnskilledButStrong:
** A variation. Bell is more of the self-trained version of the trope, as he relies mainly on his speed to overpower his enemies, which works when he's fighting weaker monsters but fails completely to help him against tougher monsters until he gets the Hestia Knife. It's only after training with Ais that he gains the skills needed to fight effectively. Even then, he still struggles against human opponents. Ais later gives him some tips, (namely on how to feint) but never an actual fighting style, in spite of her comments (in the manga, at least) that most of the knife fighters she's encountered also use martial arts.
** By Volume 8 this is {{Averted|Trope}}, too: Eina notes that he fought on par with adventurers of his level in spite of the fact that he had far less experience.
Volume 7 starts off with an Amazoness of the Ishtar Familia taking a liking to him, dragging him off to the Familia home, and him getting mobbed by the many Amazonesses in the Familia who all want to have their way with him.
* WeaponOfChoice: He's primarily been a KnifeNut. He also tends to use [[HeroesPreferSwords swords]] when his knives won't cut it (which is often given the kind of enemies he faces).
