* MetaGuy: He basically serves as an avatar for viewers who wonder why everyone else in the series drifts through corners when in reality that would be much slower than just gripping through them. He quickly learns that unfortunately, showboating his BoringButPractical approach in a world where drifting is written to look awesome and skillful isn't going to work, losing to Takumi and later to Team Emperor.

* HoistByHisOwnPetard: If only he hadn't installed a flimsy spoiler on his roadster (or at least installed one with more stable supports), his spoiler wouldn't be wrecked against the mountainside at the merging lane of the Yabitsu course, and disrupted the car's balance and airflow so much it spun out.

** Not only that, but Satoshi lowered his guard when he saw the 86's headlights shine a light in the road ahead of him, spooking him out in spite of the face that he wasn't even looking in the rearview mirror.

to:

* Determinator: The fact that Hideo as an antagonist would've went all the way to catch up to Keisuke to the point of sacrificing his tires cements him as this.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: Because Hideo knew that the Supra was a heavier car thanks to its chassis and 2JZ engine, he was forced to retire after falling for Keisuke's feint, knowing full well that the car's weight was wearing down his tires.
* LightningBruiser: Deconstructed hard, when Hideo went all out for the sake of his pride. The Supra is a disgustingly fast car with its 2JZ big-block engine tuned to 500 HP, meaning that it could go fast in spite of weighing 1.5 tons, just as heavy as Hoshino's GTR. However, the heavy chassis and engine combined with Hideo pushing the car to high speeds meant that the Supra's tires would've worn down faster especially on the uphill.

* {{Determinator}}: Takumi will '''NEVER''' give up in a race, especially when he's behind. While this gives way to some fantastic victories, it also has caused him to overstep his boundaries multiple times while attempting to mount a comeback, such as [[spoiler:pushing the Trueno's original engine too hard (causing it to blow), almost driving into a ditch while trying to emulate Kyoichi's AWD driving style ''in the rain'' as he threw a desperation move at Sakamoto's Cappuccino, snapping a suspension arm while abusing the curbs to chase down Toshiya's S2000, and blowing the TRD engine by over-revving it unknowingly mid-Blind Attack to pass Shinji and win.]] However, he usually overcomes the absurd risks of such driving with his own skill, his natural instincts for racing, or a fair helping of luck.

A street-turned professional racer from the Tochigi prefecture. He was originally gonna go after Emperor's Kyoichi Sudo but after Takumi Fujiwara defeated Sudo on his home course of Irohazaka, he decided to go after Takumi instead.
