Added DiffLines:

* PoorCommunicationKills: Andy got the schedule of coding camp wrong, which only fueled Tulip's anger at her parents and the divorce, which culminated in her heading out to Minnesota on her own and onto the train itself. To his credit, he realized his mistake and sent an apology text.

Added DiffLines:

* UncertainDoom: He's not seen at all when the Apex raid his car in "The Musical Car". [[spoiler:Amelia herself doesn't even mention his name when she brings up that she sent the car all the way back to the caboose.]]

*  SpannerInTheWorks: She ends up being this to Amelia, who had taken over as Conductor for the train. The train deposited her in the Snow Car, where Amelia had left One-One. Despite herself, Tulip bonded with the robot and refused to let either of their halves go over the course of their journey, even for the slightest hint on getting to the conductor. By staying loyal, she ended up undoing Amelia's plan, convinced the lady that they were NotSoDifferent about wanting a past they couldn't reclaim, and said goodbye to everyone on the train with no hard feelings and One-One restored to their rightful place.

Added DiffLines:

* OneHundredPercentAdorationRating: In life, no one disliked Alrick. His and Amelia's friends mention they're all attending the funeral and want her to come. Likely, this is what made his death so much harder for her, why a good person she loved had to perish.

Added DiffLines:

* MoralityChain: When Amelia lost him, she started sliding into villainy on the train. She cries TearsOfRemorse on realizing this, that he wouldn't have liked the person he would become.
* NiceGuy: He's a bit of TheGadfly and ThePrankster, but we see that in life he liked everyone, and doted on Amelia. That's what made his death all the more tragic.
* NothingIsScarier: Thanks to One-One messing with the tape, Tulip doesn't find out how he died. He was a fairly young man, didn't seem to have any health issues, and didn't seem to take risks. We just know it happened.

Added DiffLines:

* ThePrankster: It's implied he put a whoopie cushion at the teacher's desk to cheer up Amelia.

* AndroclesLion: [[spoiler:She is genuinely baffled by Tulip pulling her out of the wreckage of the ball pit car and expecting nothing in return, so she gives Tulip the solution to Atticus's BalefulPolymorph and assists with moving the car to the front of the train.]]
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: She doesn't function by what one would call a conventional moral code, acting based on a ''quid quo pro'' mentality that works in tandem with her ConMan CollectorOfTheStrange lifestyle. She's seemingly obsessed with deals, to the point that nearly every interaction she has with others is phrased as a transaction or bargain. She considers breaking a prior deal to be a major transgression but will offer a return of services to someone who does something for her even if they disdain the offer. The idea of not getting something in return for doing something honestly baffles her and doing something free of charge is regarded as immensely generous on her end.
* TheBusCameBack: She's a recurring character in the books.
** She returns in Book 2 as the new manager of the "Lucky Cat Car" which is essentially an endless carnival.
** In Book 3 she makes her first appearance in "Le Chat Chalet Car" taking a winter vacation in a cabin along with Frank the Bear and Randall.
* CatsAreMean: She's a manipulative, antagonistic cat contrasted to the more trustworthy corgi, though to her credit she seemingly was willing to go along with her deal with Tulip [[spoiler:and later was coerced into villainy]]. [[spoiler:She later undergoes a HeelFaceTurn and helps the good guys before leaving for good, subverting this trope.]]
* CollectorOfTheStrange: Her car in "The Cat's Car" is full of random objects. She's very protective of them, as seen when she snaps at One-One for touching her globe of the Earth and later when [[spoiler:the Steward smashes up part of her collection to punish her failure to capture Tulip.]]
** Her cabin in "Le Chat Chalet Car" has a room full of stuff, including a ''stuffed Ghom'', and Simon's comment about her "collecting again" implies that she's a bit of a hoarder.

* EnemyMine: [[spoiler:She's not a bad guy, but she does team up with Tulip in the penultimate episode of season 1 to get revenge on the Conductor.]]
* EveryoneHasStandards: She's a con-artist but even ''she'' has an utter dislike for Grace and her entitlement. [[spoiler:There's also the fact that she feels genuinely guilty for leaving Simon to a Ghom.]]
* FemaleFelineMaleMutt: Is referred to with feminine pronouns, making her this to Atticus's Male Mutt.
* GratuitousFrench: The Cat peppers her already [[SesquipedalianLoquaciousness sesquipedalian vocabulary]] with random French phrases, such as ''bon appetit''.
* HonorAmongThieves: She may be a con artist, but she will repay her debts. Even when the person in question wants nothing in return.

* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: "Le Chat Chalet Car" reveals that she's hundreds of years old, as she remarks that it's been 150 years since her last vacation, and later mentions that the car hasn't seen rain for centuries as if she has personal experience with it.

She also serves as this in the present, being the accidental cause for Simon's final push into insanity. When Simon tells her about Amelia and how Grace acted around her, she tells him how Amelia is not to be trusted and is very dangerous. Though this is at least justified since Amelia tried to kill her in the past and she didn't know Amelia had a HeelFaceTurn. Rhys Darby

A sapient, talking creature made of water who originates from The Beach Car.

* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: Tulip certainly thinks so, to the point that sharing a memory about them makes her uncomfortable.
* AmicableExes: They're ''trying'' to be this, but they still get frustrated at each other. By the final episode of Book 1, they seem to have finally found common ground.
* ParentsAsPeople: They appear to be trying their best for the sake of their daughter, but they both have demanding jobs and communication can be an issue. Unfortunately, Tulip's needs such as needing a ride to coding camp end up lost in the shuffle and kickstarts the plot.
* PassiveAggressiveKombat: A number of their fights utilize this. They're outwardly polite but passive-aggressively digging into each other. Their fight at the water park being a primary example, with the issue of Tulip's eyesight being ammunition for an argument.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: Without the divorce and her father accidentally getting the schedule of the coding camp wrong, Tulip would never have run away and boarded the Infinity Train.

* GoryDiscretionShot: [[spoiler:When the Conductor shoots Atticus combined with DeadHeatShot when his crown drops on the floor shortly thereafter.]]
* HeroicDog: Is an adorable corgi who is also one of the good guys.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:In [[Recap/InfinityTrainS1E8TheBallPitCar "The Ball Pit Car"]], he distracts the Steward to give Tulip and One-One the chance to escape. He survives this, but is then captured by the Conductor and turned into a Ghom.]]

A talking feline
and true conductor, with him retaking one of the position from most knowledgeable denizens on the train, The Cat has spent hundreds of years traveling through its many cars and collecting all sorts of strange oddities. Despite being a self-serving grifter, she will earnestly help any passenger that point onward]].asks for her assistance so long as they can offer something in return.

!!Tropes applying to both:
* AesopAmnesia: Tulip helps him understand that some problems are too big to fix and he doesn't have the responsibility ''or'' the power to solve them. [[spoiler: Which means as soon as he's the Conductor again, [[DramaticallyMissingThePoint he has the power to quarantine and dispose of cars he considers broken]].]]
* AllThereInTheScript: The different personalities are referred to in the scripts as "Glad-One" and "Sad-One", for the sake of writing and voicing the characters. In-series, the two halves only identified themselves as "One" and "One", with others always calling them the tandem "One-One". [[spoiler:In the finale, Amelia suggests his name, before her usurpation, was simply "One".]]
* AmbiguousInnocence: His quirks and BlueAndOrangeMorality get increasingly deconstructed over the course of the show. [[spoiler: Amelia]] accuses of him of only seeing passengers as numbers, which he apparently countered with a notecard for her to memorize about how important each passenger's life is. Even then, [[spoiler: he's completely oblivious to the damage Apex has done to the train denizens and the suffering of train denizens in general. It becomes more and more unclear if One-One truly cares as much as he thinks he does. Book 4 shows that One, as he originally was before Amelia, was even worse. Passengers were sent off with no hint as to what to do, and One freely acknowledged they could die on the train if they failed to figure it out.]]
* AmbiguousSituation: How important is One-One in the grand scheme of things? Between the Steward's vested interest in them and [[spoiler:their reaction to the Unfinished Car]], it's implied that he has a bigger purpose for being on the train than what's been shown so far. [[spoiler:He's revealed to be the ''real'' Conductor in [[Recap/InfinityTrainS1E10TheEngine "The Engine"]], with Amelia having usurped him.]]
* BeTheBall: Is two halves of a spherical robot.
* BigGood: [[spoiler:Revealed to be this as the train's true conductor at the end of first season. Unlike Amelia, One-One is truly benevolent and just wants the passengers to make peace with their personal demons. The beginning of the second season has him prepare pre-recorded messages to help newcomers understand their journey across the train.]]
* BlueAndOrangeMorality:
** After [[spoiler:being reinstated as Conductor]], One-One becomes single-mindedly focused on making sure that the train functions as it is supposed to, with little regard for anything else. [[spoiler:Demonstrated in "The Number Car" when he's completely callous to MT's pain because she is where she is "supposed" to be. Later, when trying to solve the LogicBomb of Jesse needing to save MT to "fix" his problem, One-One briefly but seriously considers Sieve's suggestion of ''killing MT'' so that Jesse can be sent home. And all of this in a completely non-malicious manner.]]
** Book Three reveals that he's [[spoiler:quarantining any cars made by Amelia during her reign, regardless of whether they're harmful or not. He also doesn't see the Apex as anything but passengers that need to be going through therapy, regardless of the destruction they cause.]]
* BreadEggsBreadedEggs: This moment when One-One solves the weight puzzle in the original pilot:
-->'''Glad-One:''' Yay, yay us! ''Yus!''\\
'''Sad-One:''' No. Nus.
* TheCameo: Appears during season 2 in "The Black Market Train" during a pre-recorded message to help a lunch lady understand the nature of the train. [[spoiler:Reappears at the end of "The Tape Car" with a minor supporting role in "The Number Car" trying to solve Jesse's number problem.]]
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Many of his mannerisms and sayings come across this way, such as when he repeatedly asks various beings and objects if they're his mother. Much of his behavior and what he says makes more sense [[spoiler:when it is revealed that they are the true Conductor of the train]].
* CuteMachines: An adorable little spherical robot.
* DemotedToExtra: Since his story arc was completed in Book One, he's relegated to just being at the end of Book Two. He doesn't appear at all in Book Three, and he only appears once at the beginning of Book Four [[spoiler:before Amelia usurps him.]]
* {{Deuteragonist}}: Of Book One.
* TheDividual: Of the ''Syndividual'' type. The Ones have contrasting personalities but are never seen apart.
* TheEndingChangesEverything: The final episode of Book 1 reveals that [[spoiler:they are the Conductor, giving their prior actions and dialogue extra meaning.]]
* ExactWords: Most of what One-One says doesn't usually make sense (Glad-One stating Tulip will be "Gone Forever" if her number goes down and Sad-One tells her she's in "a very bad place"). [[spoiler:Once we know the truth about him, his words have much more context.]]
* TheGhost: Is constantly mentioned in Book 3 but makes no appearance.
* HeroAntagonist: With Book 3's leads being {{Villain Protagonist}}s, they view One-One as their enemy. Though One-One does not appear in the Book his presence is constantly felt and several of the difficulties the protagonists face like [[spoiler:the ejecting cars]] were done by an agent working under him: [[spoiler:Amelia]].
* HeroWithBadPublicity: [[spoiler:Grace and her cult believe that One-One's a false conductor and that Amelia's the true conductor. "The Hey Ho Whoa" Car gives them a reality check]].
* IdentityAmnesia: [[spoiler:After being usurped as the Conductor by Amelia, One-One remembers many facts about the Train, but doesn't remember their true role onboard until they make it back to the Engine with Tulip's help.]]
* LackOfEmpathy: Towards the train's denizens. Despite insisting that they are designed to help the passengers, One-One doesn't understand that those denizens might have their own desires and even wish to leave the train.
* LateArrivalSpoiler:
** The first short has One-One reveal the ''big'' spoiler about them [[spoiler:being the true Conductor of the Train.]]
** "The Black Market Car" has them [[spoiler:spoil the huge twist of the Infinity Train's purpose.]]
* LightIsGood: Is a white spherical robot [[spoiler:and the ''true'' Conductor of the train.]]
* LiteralSplitPersonality: Glad-One and Sad-One. [[spoiler:Book 4 reveals that, prior to Amelia taking over, One-One was just One, a singular personality. Her intervention evidently caused the split.]]
* MacGuffinPersonReveal: [[spoiler:The Conductor ''really'' wants them destroyed, as it turns out One-One is the ''original'' Conductor.]]
* MissingMom: In the first episode of the series when Tulip first encounters them with the snowmen, they mention looking for their mother but having no idea what she looks like either being very big or very small like a bagel. [[spoiler:Because the mother they're talking about is the ''mother''board of the train and they fit into a bagel-like slot.]]
* MissionControlIsOffItsMeds: From the pre-book 2 documentaries and beyond. [[spoiler: Acting as a therapist for hundreds of people that he's never met face-to-face and trying to clean up the chaos from Amelia's coup clearly has not been easy. Plus he's completely incapable of understanding why MT would want to leave the train.]]
* MisterExposition: [[spoiler:His role in "The Black Market Car" is to give a pre-recorded message to explain the basis of the Infinity Train.]]
* NiceGuy: One-One is one of the nicest characters on the show [[spoiler:especially considering his role as the conductor and the trains true purpose]]
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: [[spoiler:When they reach the Unfinished Car, One-One suddenly drops everything to "fix" it, not even caring about damaging the car and its inhabitants. When Tulip tries to stop him, their two halves start ''speaking in unison'', something they'd ''never'' done before then.]]
* {{Portmanteau}}: Tulip creates his name from the names of each of their personalities, both of which are "One".
* TheReveal: In the finale of Season 1, he's shown to be [[spoiler:the original Conductor, having had his position usurped by Amelia.]]
* RobotBuddy: Naturally.
* WalkingSpoiler: The Book 1 finale changes ''everything'' about this little robot's character.

!!Tropes applying to Glad-One
* DissonantSerenity:
** His perpetually cheerful demeanor can occasionally be off-putting when the circumstances take a turn for the grim.
--->'''The Cat:''' I thought if I found you I'd be left alone.\\
'''Glad-One:''' That's funny! That didn't work at all! ''[laughs uproariously]''\\
''[{{beat}}]''\\
'''The Cat:''' No. It didn't.
** In "The Beach Car" he happily tells Tulip that when her number (at 115) goes down, she's "gone forever!" [[spoiler:They meant gone ''from the train'', not gone as in ''dead'' like she believed.]]
* TheDitz: Moreso than Sad-One.
* ThePollyanna: Not much gets him down. This is especially apparent when compared to their other half.

!!Tropes applying to Sad-One
* BluntYes: Sometimes when they say something morbid or does something, it's usually followed up by a blunt or a deadpanned yes.
* CaptainObvious: He tells Tulip in "The Grid Car" that she's in a very bad place, which she means to take the realm where the Infinity Train is (and she's not wrong). [[spoiler: They weren't talking about a ''physical'' place; but rather about her mindscape, a "bad place".]]
* {{Catchphrase}}: Frequently talks about writing obituaries for other characters (or even his other half).
* TheComicallySerious: Sad-One speaks in a monotone and often is TheEeyore. He also has some of the funniest one-liners.
* DeadpanSnarker: He's usually the snarkiest of the group next to Tulip.
-->'''Sad One:''' [[LampshadeHanging Then I say something sardonic...]]
* TheEeyore: Perpetually depressed and cynical, especially when compared to his other half.
-->'''Atticus:''' Awfully morbid little thing, aren't you?\\
'''Sad-One:''' Yes.

* ShoutOut: They're named after the Lord of Gluttony from ''VideoGame/{{Diablo}}''. Fitting since they feed on one's life force.

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AshleyJohnson

The main protagonist of the show's first season. A 13-year-old girl who ran away from home after an argument with her mother, Tulip finds herself awakening on the Infinity Train after boarding what she believed to be a train to Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Now she resolves to meet The Conductor so that she can return home, as well as uncover the mystery of the glowing green number that now adorns her hand.
----
* ActionSurvivor: Though not all of the cars rely around surviving danger obviously, Tulip still manages to hold her own and figure out multiple hazardous situations after coming to terms with ''being'' in danger.
* AerithAndBob: Between her trio, she zig-zags it: She's the Bob to One-One, but the Aerith to Atticus.
* AffectionateNickname: Her parents call her "Bud".
* AllJustADream: She initially believes that her encounter with the Infinity Train was just a hallucination she had. Alas, we wouldn't have a series if that were the case, would we?
* ArbitrarySkepticism: One-One, perhaps unwittingly, calls out Tulip on this in the pilot when she thinks the number on her hand could have no relation to the monster menacing Corginia.
-->'''Tulip:''' It's just so unlikely...\\
'''Sad-One:''' Unlikely like a ''[[ItMakesSenseInContext fart car]]''.
* AmbiguousDisorder: Tulip keeps her emotions bottled up most of the time, and when they do spill out, she has a hard time keeping them in moderation. She also tries to find a logical conclusion to anything she sees, and has a fixation on the videogame she's making.
* AngerIsNotEnough: Her temper is front and center whenever her emotions spill out, and not only does it make it harder for her to see both side of the conflict, but tints her view to make things seem worse than they actually are. Her arc in the first book is to try learn how to deal with her emotions for this reason.
* BadassBookworm: She's both intelligent and athletically gifted. According to WordOfGod, she could join a sports team with ease, if she wanted to.
* BadassNormal: For a thirteen-year-old girl way in over her head on the train, Tulip acclimates rapidly to dangerous scenarios and does her best to resolve them while not only being quick on the uptake about puzzles but also surprisingly nimble. [[spoiler:This culminates in a direct fight with the Conductor/Amelia, hitting a moving Ghom'd Atticus with a focused shot to revert him to normal, and even getting a good hit on Amelia's cockpit while not getting hit at all.]]
* BizarreTasteInFood: Enjoys eating whole raw onions the way one would eat an apple. She calls it "having a sophisticated palate".
* BrokenTears: Break down at these in the end of "The Ball Pit Car" after [[spoiler:Atticus gets transformed into a Ghom.]]
* {{Catchphrase}}: Whenever she's convinced to try doing something in a different (usually less logical) way than she would prefer, she growls out an irritated "Ugh, ''fine''."
* DeadpanSnarker: She does snark to herself from time to time when she gets annoyed or frustrated.
* {{Determinator}}: When her parents can't drive her to coding camp, she decides to walk there herself, which starts her adventure on the train.
* DecoyProtagonist: Downplayed but the show wasn’t revealed to be an anthology until after Book 1 ended before that the trailers and promotional material made it look like the entire show would have her as the protagonist.
* DisappearedDad: In this case, her parents are divorced and she lives with her mom with her dad rarely coming by for visits.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: When it turns out her parents can't take her to the camp they promised to take her, Tulip decides to go there by herself. On foot. With nothing but a backpack. And while the camp is ''several hundred miles'' away from where she starts. It's kind of a blessing the train comes to pick her up right then and there.
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: In the pilot, she had big glasses and large eyes. Both of these shrunk in the official show, with her also gaining more realistic proportions all around. Also, her boots were grey in the pilot but became blue in the TV series, and her skirt also became longer.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: At the end of season one, she returns home as a kinder girl, one more willing to accept love and loss equally. Though she never sees Atticus and One-One again, she is satisfied knowing they are both restored to their proper forms and that [[spoiler:Amelia is on the path to redemption]].
* EnragedByIdiocy: Has very little patience for One-One's antics during the first few episodes, though to be fair, at that point One-One acts as TheLoad who operates on too much vagueness for Tulip's liking. She eventually gets better.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: The first half of "The Grid Car" shows off everything we should know about her: she has a love of onions, she's trying hard not to think about her parents' divorce, she isolates herself and shows off a love of coding and does not understand how her mom and dad are struggling through said divorce and blames them for everything that happened.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: Seven months after she returns home, her bangs are swept over to the left and her hair is noticeably shorter.
* FatalFlaw: Her biggest flaw is her refusal to actually confront and work through her emotions, instead preferring to ignore them, deflect, and try to bury them.[[spoiler:[[Recap/InfinityTrainS1E5TheCatsCar "The Cat's Car"]] is all about her confronting this fact about herself.]]
* FloralThemeNaming: The Tulip, obviously. Taking her red hair into account, the ''red'' Tulip comes to mind.
* FieryRedhead: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]] most of the time, since although she has a temper, it takes a while for it to blow up. It's when her parents' divorce comes up that she plays the trope straight.
* {{Foil}}:
** According to WordOfGod, Tulip is intended to be a foil to the Infinity Train itself. The Infinity Train is bizarre and illogical, which contrasts with Tulip's need for everything to be logical and make sense.
** She's also one for [[spoiler:the Conductor]], since both are {{Control Freak}}s in a sense, who want the world to do their bidding. The main difference is that [[spoiler:Tulip understands and [[CharacterDevelopment eventually]] accepts that life can't always go her way. She also cares about the friends she makes on her journey while the Conductor sees the character on the train as puppets who have to stay in their cars for all eternity. If they rebel, she'll [[BalefulPolymorph turn them into Ghoms]] without hesitation, in direct contrast to Tulip, who encourages her to explore. Just like Tulip, the Conductor/Amelia was also a person who entered the train, but while Tulip was able to make friends and lower her number by resolving her issues, Amelia just became more and more obsessed with what she had lost, thus increasing her number to an amount that has crawled up to her neck and eventually taking control of the train itself in a desperate attempt to recreate her old life and her lost love in one of its cars, which Tulip is able to reject when Amelia offers to do the same for Tulip, creating a world where her parents were still together, because she knew that it wouldn't be ''real''.]]
* GamerGirl: She's shown creating her own video game.
* GiverOfLameNames: The characters in her video game are "Good Guy" and "Bad Guy". The game itself is named "Good Guys Popping Bad Guys," which at least sounds catchy, but it's still rather weird.
* HeroesLoveDogs: Unlike with One-One, Tulip and Atticus hit it off pretty well.
* HypocriticalHumor: When One-One first tells her his name, Tulip comments that it's an unusual name, unlike her own. Except that "Tulip" ''is'' [[AerithAndBob an unusual name]]. It's PlayedForLaughs, and The Cat spends a good portion of the series mocking her "perennial" name.
* IChooseToStay: [[spoiler:Despite having resolved all her personal issues keeping her on the Train by [[Recap/InfinityTrainS1E9ThePastCar "The Past Car"]], she puts off leaving to save Atticus.]]
* InSeriesNickname: She's regularly called "Ms. Tulip" by One-One and "Tulip the Literate" once by Atticus. The Cat also calls her "kitten" from time to time.
* IRejectYourReality: Her memories about the past are a lot more rose-colored than is probably true — but her memories of pain, such as her parents' separation, are ''worse'' than the mundane dinner-table discussion they actually had. The videotape prison in [[Recap/InfinityTrainS1E5TheCatsCar "The Cat's Car"]] forces her to confront the fact that her parents' marriage was troubled, but that they really did want the best for her; and that while selfishly blaming them for ruining her life wasn’t fair, her pain itself was reasonable.
* {{Irony}}: Her hair is a bright orange/red and tulips in those colors can either symbolize happiness or love. She certainly doesn't have any of that in her life or else she wouldn't have been on the train, now would she?
* {{Jerkass}}: Downplayed but present at the beginning of the series. Between the three main characters, she's easily the most aggressive, impatient, irritable, and above all else tends to lock away how she really feels, which leads to a multitude of social issues. She's not overly mean, and has a genuine friendship with Mikayla, but is also somewhat unfriendly to the first few people she meets on the train and is cold towards her parents because of the divorce. [[spoiler:By the end of the book, this is all but gone entirely, leaving her as quite the NiceGirl. Turns out the train did her a lot of good in the end.]]
* JerkassRealization: [[spoiler:Realizes in [[Recap/InfinityTrainS1E5TheCatsCar "The Cat's Car"]] that she's been demonizing her parents over their divorce when in reality they were as torn up by it as she was, and that her behavior wasn’t making it any easier to deal with.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Regardless of this, she's also supportive, loyal, and cares deeply about those around her, and the entire series is her evolving past her biggest issues.
* LogicalLatecomer: As the newest arrival on the train, she questions everything that happens on it.
* TheMagnificent: Atticus calls her "Tulip the Literate" (since she introduced herself that she likes books) when they first meet.
* MeaningfulName: Discussed. When One-One asks if she's called "Tulip" because she has a big bulbous head, she explains that when she was born she had breathing problems, but she bounced back "like a perennial flower", so her parents named her Tulip after said flower.
* {{Meganekko}}: Tulip is very cute and wears a pair of glasses.
* MissingReflection: [[spoiler:While it's not obvious after the Chrome Car, the final episode of Season 1 shows that Tulip no longer has her reflection even when returning to the real world.]]
* NiceGirl: What she's become by the final few episodes of the series, being much happier to play with the train's denizens and much more forgiving to others.
* NotSoAboveItAll: She's embarrassed to admit that one of her happiest memories was singing loudly to pop music during road trips with her parents. The problem for her is that it's the clue to a puzzle that demands she sing a meaningful song that reflects love. After realizing that she doesn't have a choice, Tulip opens her mouth and belts a silly pop song that she adores. It ends up doing the trick, and making her feel better about regaining that memory.
* NotSoDifferent: This is how she convinces [[spoiler:Amelia to pull a HeelFaceTurn. While angry about Amelia transforming Atticus into a Ghom ForTheEvulz, Tulip sincerely tells her that she knows what it's like to lose someone you love, and with them a past that seems magical. The divorce was as painful for her as Alric's death was for Amelia. She also says that they can't recreate a past that has long vanished like the desert sand in the wind]].
* OnlySaneWoman: It comes with her logical mind and thinking. Unlike practically everyone else that got on the train, Tulip realized that it had to have a conductor, ergo someone as an authority figure. Her quest was to find the conductor and ask how to get home. She figured out the solution to the train in days, while some like Simon and Grace were trapped for ''years'' and had some EntertaininglyWrong conclusions. [[spoiler:This tendency also allowed her to figure out that Amelia wasn't the real conductor, after viewing the Cat's videotape of the latter, and to get the means to restore Atticus from Ghom form]].
* ParentalIssues: Her parents are divorced and you can tell by the first episode alone that this is having an effect on her. By the finale, she's accepted it and recovered.
* RedheadInGreen: Wears a green hoodie as part of her outfit. Her hairclip is also the same color. She also wore a green shirt in the family photo from her vacation at [=DolphWorld=].
* TheRunaway: Played with. She planned to go to Game Design Camp by herself after both of her parents declined, without telling anyone.
* ShmuckBait: Tulip had absolutely no reason to trust The Cat, and the entire setup reeked of a trap, but the idea of a videotape with all the answers (and her name on it) was too much to resist.
* ShutUpHannibal: [[spoiler:In the season 1 finale, Amelia tries to win her over by offering to create a car where her parents are still together, Tulip shoots her down by pointing out her failure to even create a car without any turtles in it.]]
* SkirtOverSlacks: Wears a grey skirt and dark leggings underneath. Justified since it's winter and she'd need to protect herself from the cold.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: In the grand scheme of things, she's just another passenger. But without her, Seasons 2 and 3 would have been ''very'' different.
* SmartPeoplePlayChess: In the pilot, one of the previous cars Tulip puzzled her way through was built around chess pieces. On the floor, walls, and ''ceiling''. In the show proper, she was heading for programming camp before winding up on the train.
* SmartPeopleWearGlasses: Tulip is interested in coding, and wears U-framed glasses.
* SourOutsideSadInside: To most people, Tulip seems like an ill-mannered jerk who has a lot of trouble keeping her emotions in control. However, beyond that layer lies a girl who's still processing her parents' divorce, and who honestly doesn't know what to do with her situation.
* TomboyishPonytail: Wears her hair like this when we first meet her and all across her journey through the train.
* TomboyishVoice: Has a rather raspy and boyish voice later on, fitting with her personality and mannerisms.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Onions. She's shown eating them like one bites into an apple.
* {{Workaholic}}: A child variant. She's completely obsessed with finding out all of the rules of the train, [[JustifiedTrope because she fears that the train might kill her if she breaks one]]. However, she can get so into it that it overwhelmed One-One.
* WhenYouComingHomeDad: Her father rarely visits her and her mother after their divorce which, coupled with everything else Tulip's going through at the moment, only further fuels her own angst.

->'''Voiced by:''' Jeremy Crutchley (Glad-One) and [[DescendedCreator Owen Dennis]] (Sad-One)

A spherical robot who's been on the Infinity Train his whole life and serves as Tulip's main companion on the train, being the first being she encountered. Made up of two individual personalities, that of a scatterbrained optimist and a dour pessimist, One-One can split down the middle to allow these halves to function independently. It's later revealed at the end of Book One that [[spoiler: he is the Infinity Train's original and true conductor, with him retaking the position from that point onward]].
----
!!Tropes applying to both:
It becomes more and more unclear if One-One truly cares as much as he thinks he does.]]
* BlueAndOrangeMorality:
* BreadEggsBreadedEggs: This moment when One-One solves the weight puzzle:
-->'''Glad-One:''' Yay, yay us! ''Yus!''\\
He doesn't appear at all in Book Three.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: Of Book One.
* LateArrivalSpoiler:
* LiteralSplitPersonality: Glad-One and Sad-One.
* RobotBuddy: Naturally.
* WalkingSpoiler: The Book 1 finale changes ''everything'' about this little robot's character.

'''Glad-One:''' That's funny! That didn't work at all! ''[laughs uproariously]''\\

'''The Cat:''' No. It didn't.
** In "The Beach Car" he happily tells Tulip that when her number (at 115) goes down, she's "gone forever!" [[spoiler:They meant gone ''from the train'', not gone as in ''dead'' like she believed.]]
* TheDitz: Moreso than Sad-One.

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/ErnieHudson

A talking corgi who rules Corginia, an entire land of talking corgis in one of the Infinity Train's cars. Desiring to ensure that a creature known as the Steward is no longer a threat to his people, he joins Tulip as her second companion on her quest to see the Conductor, in hopes that doing so will also solve his dilemma.
----
* AncientGrome: His culture is very much Athens-inspired while his own name is Latin.
* BadassAdorable: Isn't he just the cutest heroic corgi you ever saw?
* BalefulPolymorph: [[spoiler:In [[Recap/InfinityTrainS1E8TheBallPitCar "The Ball Pit Car"]], the Conductor punishes him for leaving his car and siding with Tulip by turning him into a Ghom.]]
* BlackBeadEyes: His eyes, like the other corgis, are drawn like this.
* BreakoutCharacter: In [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HL1jZHHkoE&t=1734s an early interview]] with WebVideo/RebelTaxi, Owen Dennis commented that he had no immediate plans to make Atticus a main character, despite the positive fan reaction he received. Jump forward to the premiere and Atticus is very much a main character.
* TheCameo: He's shown in One-One's pre-recorded message in "The Black Market Car".
* CivilizedAnimal: He's the leader of a small kingdom of talking dogs.
* TheComicallySerious: His wisdom and seriousness is bellied by the fact he is [[MyInstinctsAreShowing still a corgi, and acts accordingly]].
* CoolCrown: He wars a small dome shaped crown over his head and [[spoiler:when Tulip manages to turn him back to normal, she places the crown back on his head and he admits he felt odd without it on.]]
* FaceMonsterTurn: [[spoiler:After the Conductor turns him into a Ghom in [[Recap/InfinityTrainS1E8TheBallPitCar "The Ball Pit Car"]]. [[TurningBackHuman He gets better.]]]]
* FateWorseThanDeath: [[spoiler:His transformation into a Ghom, which erases his entire personality and appears to be a painful process. However, Tulip does find a way to turn him back to normal by the final episode.]]
* FemaleFelineMaleMutt: As the King of Corginia he is most definitely the male mutt to The Cat, the female feline.
* ItsPersonalWithTheDragon: The reason he joins the group is to hunt down the Steward and ensure she never threatens his kingdom again and fights her in all her appearances. [[spoiler:He's ultimately the one to destroy her in the end.]]
* TheMagnificent: His full title is "Atticus, King of the Corginians, and Uniter of the Cardigans and the Pembrokes".
* MyInstinctsAreShowing: To his embarrassment, he still acts very much like a corgi who likes belly rubs and eats spiders.
* [[OnlySaneMan Only Sane Corgi]]: With Tulip usually on the edge of a nervous breakdown and One-One being One-One, it's usually Atticus that is the calm voice of reason.
* OutOfFocus: Out of the three protagonists in Book 1, he doesn't get as much character development or focus until "The Ball Pit Car". [[spoiler:And even then it ends with him turned into a Ghom for the last two episodes.]]
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: Atticus personally joins Tulip to defeat the monster, and braves the Steward's machine gun fire in a valiant (but ultimately futile) attempt to attack it. He subsequently fights the Steward every time it threatens the heroes [[spoiler:and is eventually the one who destroys it]].
* SacrificialLion: [[spoiler:He is transformed into a Ghom in [[Recap/InfinityTrainS1E8TheBallPitCar "The Ball Pit Car"]], bringing about the DarkestHour in the series. Fortunately, Tulip turns him back in the season finale.]]
* [[SeldomSeenSpecies Seldom Seen Breed]]: His tail identifies him as a Cardigan Welsh Corgi, which are more rarely seen in media compared to their Pembroke counterparts.
* TheSpock: While being a dog gives him a fair share of eccentricities, he is usually right to be suspicious whenever Tulip is convinced by an AmbiguouslyEvil character tries talking Tulip into doing something.
* TurningBackHuman: Or corgi, in this case. In the final episode [[spoiler:Tulip finds the gun used on Atticus, inserts a corgi orb, and manages to turn him back to his original form.]]

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KateMulgrew

A talking feline and one of the most knowledgeable denizens on the train, The Cat has spent hundreds of years traveling through its many cars and collecting all sorts of strange oddities. Despite being a self-serving grifter, she will earnestly help any passenger that asks for her assistance so long as they can offer something in return.
----
* AintTooProudToBeg: [[spoiler:Being confronted by the Steward ''terrifies her''.]]
* AmbiguouslyEvil: She doesn't really do anything ''wrong'' in her first appearance save conning Randall and she seems to indicate she was intending to follow through on her deal with Tulip about talking to the Conductor, but she has a clear aura of untrustworthiness about her that eventually convinces Tulip not to follow through on the deal and try and get One-One back from her. [[spoiler:[[Recap/InfinityTrainS1E5TheCatsCar "The Cat's Car"]] reveals that she's working with the Steward, though not completely willingly. Later, after nearly being killed by the Conductor and the Steward, she joins the good guys before leaving for good.]]
* ConMan: She's introduced tricking Randall the water creature into buying a pipe she advertises as a donut hole maker.
* CynicismCatalyst: Is this to [[spoiler:Simon. According to him, she left him to die, leaving him with a burning hatred of the denizens of the train. It's later revealed that she had no idea that he wasn't by her side after she ran when the Ghoms came for them, but the fact that she never came back for Simon impacted him a lot.]]
* DirtyCoward: She'd sooner save her own skin than someone else...[[spoiler:at least, according to Simon. She reveals that she didn't realize that he wasn't with her until she had made it to safety. However, Simon points out that she never came back either way, out of either guilt or cowardice. In Book 1, she is willing to hand over One-One and Tulip to the Conductor to save her own skin, but when the Conductor reneges on the deal she sides with Tulip.]]
* DoNotCallMePaul: She goes by simply "The Cat" ([[SpellMyNameWithAThe emphasis on "the"]]), but it's later revealed in "The Canyon of the Golden Winged Snakes Car" that her real name is [[spoiler:Samantha]].
* DungeonBypass: Her vehicle lets her ride on the top of the train cars, bypassing the rooms entirely.
* InterspeciesRomance:
** "Le Chat Chalet Car" has her taking a vacation in the car with a bear named Frank, and both are just wearing bathrobes when the protagonists show up.
*** Per WordOfGod, they are, in fact, [[https://old.reddit.com/r/InfinityTrain/comments/ih4so4/owen_and_maddie_here_ask_us_anything/g2xxfam/ in a relationship]].
** She also flirted with Jesse in "The Lucky Cat Car".
* IronicName: [[spoiler:Her true name, Samantha, means "listen well". But she didn't ''listen'' to Simon's cries about being left behind and ran away in fear.]]
* {{Irony}}: [[spoiler:Was the cause of Simon's hatred for Nulls by abandoning him. And when she finally decides to help him after eight years, she ends up playing a big part in his death.]]
* LightIsNotGood: Is a pure white feline, but she's not a sweetheart. At best, she can be seen as GoodIsNotNice.
* LotusEaterMachine: Her videotapes, which was apparently a way to buy time until [[spoiler:the Steward]] showed up.
* MyGreatestFailure: [[spoiler:She sees abandoning Simon as this. It didn't help that he was at the mercy of a [[TheDreaded Ghom]]. Simon doesn't see it that way because even if she gives the excuse that she didn't realize that he wasn't there until the next car, he also points out she never came back to him.]]
* NiceHat: She wears a nice straw hat when she reappears in "The Lucky Cat Car".
* NoNameGiven: When Tulip asks her what her name is, she identifies herself as [[SpellMyNameWithAThe THE]] Cat. In "The Canyon Of The Golden Winged Snakes Car", [[spoiler:Simon calls her Samantha]].
* NominalHero: [[spoiler:She decides to ultimately side with the good guys in the penultimate episode of Book 1, albeit mostly to get revenge on the Conductor.]]
* NoNeedForNames: She is THE Cat. [[spoiler:Her real name is Samantha.]]
* NoodleIncident: [[spoiler:She and Grace have crossed paths before, seeing as The Cat reacts in anger upon seeing her in "The Lucky Cat Car".]]
** [[spoiler:She was Simon's companion when he first arrived on the train, but eventually left him at the mercy of a Ghom a few months later, for reasons unknown. She is regretful about the situation, however.]]
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: She's calm but pissed at Grace, [[spoiler:but she looks in shock when she sees Simon, hinting at the history they had.]]
* OverlyNarrowSuperlative: She refers to Tulip as "my favorite person arbitrarily named after a flower."
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: "Le Chat Chalet Car" reveals that she's hundreds of years old, as she remarks that it's been 150 years since her last vacation, and later mentions that the car hasn't seen rain for centuries as if she has personal experience with it.
* SpellMyNameWithAThe: As she tells Tulip in her final appearance of Book 1.
-->'''Tulip:''' Well, I guess... goodbye... Cat? Uh... is it "Cat"?\\
'''The Cat:''' "''The'' Cat."
* TalkingAnimal: Like Atticus, she's an animal that can speak.
* TookALevelInKindness: In Book 2, after she meets MT and thinks she is actually Tulip, she sounds genuinely worried that she's still on the train.
* UnreliableExpositor: She seems to know something about Tulip's situation, given that she has a videotape of Tulip's memories and appears familiar with the numbers on her hand. That said, she's playing her cards close to the chest, so all of her advice (such as the fact that reducing the number is good) is suspect.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: She plays a big role in why [[spoiler:Simon]] hates denizens. [[spoiler:He, when he was only ten, stayed with her for a few months until one day she left him while he was being attacked by a Ghom. It's later revealed that she panicked and ran away but didn't realize she left Simon behind until after she made it to safety but still fits because she never went back to search for him. However, she also gives him the nanites so he can view Grace's memories, despite knowing the danger they posses, which led to Simon betraying Grace and trying to kill her and ''then'' being killed by a Ghom.]]
* YouCalledMeXItMustBeSerious: [[spoiler:Simon calling her by her real name, Samantha, shows how much he's requesting for her help.]]

!!The Steward
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_steward.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AshleyJohnson

A robotic entity who enforces order on the train on the behalf of the Conductor.
----
* TheBrute: It's the Conductor's enforcer. Denizens of the train who know what it is are terrified of it.
* TheDragon: For the Conductor. In [[Recap/InfinityTrainS1E5TheCatsCar "The Cat's Car"]] we see that it actually takes orders in form of tone sequences.
* FireballEyeballs: The Steward has blue flame coming out of its eye sockets. Behind the mask is a pair of tubes generating the flame, which also contain its machine guns.
* ImperialStormtrooperMarksmanshipAcademy: Despite being equipped with machine guns, it never actually seems to hit anything with them. Probably justified, since it isn't a combat robot but a Train service bot.
* MiniMecha: [[spoiler: In Book 2, it serves as this for One-One after being rebuilt. He rides in the slot behind its mask, and the brief shot we got of that slot in Book 1 implies that this was its original purpose for whenever One-One needs to personally confront something and/or go outside the engine room]].
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: The Steward tosses Atticus next to the broken pipes in "The Corgi Car". While it goes after Tulip, he manages to turn off the water to stop the flooding.
* NonMaliciousMonster: It doesn't seem to have much intent of its own, acting solely on the orders of the Conductor.
* OffWithHisHead: [[spoiler:Atticus bursts out of his Ghom form right through the Steward's mask face.]]
* SlidingScaleOfRobotIntelligence: Unlike One-One it appears to be completely non-sentient, requiring directions from the Conductor in order to take any action.
* StarfishRobots: It's a humanoid face that moves around on tentacles.
* TinmanTypist: Its three-pronged claws can open into more intricate fingers to access the equipment behind the holographic shells of the cars.
* YouHaveFailedMe: All signs indicate that its retaliation against [[spoiler:The Cat]] for failing to detain Tulip was going to be pretty graphic.

!!The Conductor
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/conductor_render.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/MatthewRhys and Creator/LenaHeadey

The entity who controls the train and makes their home at its engine room, where they monitor the progress and status of passengers like Tulip. Reaching the Conductor to request a method of leaving the train is Tulip's main goal during the events of Book 1, though the Conductor appears to have more interest in making sure Tulip and her friends stay as far away from the engine room as possible. [[spoiler:For their true identity, see the folder above under passangers for Amelia.]]
----
* BerserkButton: They can't stand anyone not obeying them or acting as the Conductor thinks they should. They have the Steward try to kill The Cat seemingly purely because she questions their orders to go after One-One.
* BigBad: Of Book 1. They turn out to be the one the Steward and The Cat answer to and who controls the train and everything in it.
* ButForMeItWasTuesday: Grace being saved by the Conductor was a life-changing experience; The Conductor doesn't even remember that at all.
* CastAsAMask: Prior to TheReveal, The Conductor is voiced by Alrick's voice actor. Afterwards, they are voiced by the voice actor of their true identity, Amelia.
* ControlFreak: Their dialog implies this, with their hostility towards Tulip stemming from their "messing" with everything on the train.
* DarthVaderClone: A large, robotic humanoid, with a voice that's heavily modulated with a low, robotic buzz, wearing a black cloak.
* DisproportionateRetribution: It seems that ''any'' stepping out of line with their orders or plans will earn you a horrible fate, no matter how minor. Their attempted murder of The Cat seemed to be solely motivated by her talking back to them before caving and trying to do what was ordered.
* TheDreaded: Everyone who knows more about them than their name are terrified of the Conductor. And rightfully so.
* EvilBrit: Despite their voice being synthetic, there's more than a touch of a soft yet chilling English accent in their voice.
* EvilIsBigger: They're the BigBad and they ''tower'' over everything else, even the Steward.
* FauxAffablyEvil: They're soft-spoken and stoic even when threatening others or giving Tulip a vicious BreakingSpeech, and brushes away Tulip's resultant tears with a mock-affectionate "''no more tears''" with a cloth.
* GreaterScopeVillain: To Grace and her 'cult' in Book 2 and 3, seeing as they worship the Conductor as some god-like figure.
* HeroKiller: Nothing the heroes do against them so much as phases the Conductor and they reduce Atticus to a rampaging Ghom and leaves Tulip a sobbing wreck with a BreakingLecture. In fact, due to said Ghom, had One-One not survived, they'd have inflicted a TotalPartyKill then and there.
* InTheHood: The Conductor is never seen without their dark hooded robe.
* InsistentTerminology: Keeps calling One-One just "One".
* KickTheDog:
** The Conductor is quite abusive to The Cat and orders the Steward to destroy all of The Cat's belongings for her failure. Near the end of the book, the Conductor orders The Cat to pursue One-One and then has the Steward open fire on the area.
** Almost literally: They turn Atticus into a Ghom for no other apparent reason than being angry at him for not staying in his place. The Conductor then leaves him to dispose of Tulip.
* KnightOfCerebus: The moment the Conductor or anything relating to them comes into play, the tone goes very dark very fast. Their formal introduction in "The Ball Pit Car" sees the party lose their first member.
* LackOfEmpathy: They have zero empathy for anything Tulip went through or [[spoiler:the apparent deaths of her friends or even the other passengers on the train. The repercussions of this are shown in Book 2's "The Mall Car" where Grace, one of the passengers, decides to emulate them and has brainwashed various children to ''not'' get their numbers down to 0.
* OrcusOnHisThrone: Doesn't confront Tulip in person until the last three episodes. Justified, as the train is a gigantic place and ''finding'' Tulip is a difficult task.
* UnroboticReveal: They're actually a human woman in a MiniMecha.
* TheUsurper: There was a Conductor before them — One-One — and they usurped the train from them.
* VillainousBreakdown: After Tulip manages to get to the Engine and confront them, The Conductor begins to have a complete meltdown as she gets closer and closer to unraveling their plan.
* WouldHurtAChild: During their VillainousBreakdown, the Conductor's willing to attack Tulip for messing with everything.

A sapient, talking creature made of water who originates from The Beach Car.
----
* BlackBeadEyes: The kind of eyes Randall has.
* TheCameo:
** He appears in one of the Train shorts, opening a donut holer business.
** He's seen in "The Lucky Cat Car" as the vendor of a water gun game and tries to sell MT a "donut holer".
** He's shown in "Le Chat Chalet Car" as all the water in the car, which includes the blizzard surrounding the cabin.
* TheDitz: He’s either very gullible or has a strange way of valuing things. He instantly buys it when [[ConMan The Cat]] foists off a rusty pipe on him, calling it a “donut holer” after she pokes holes in a couple of things using it. It may be a general trait of water people, considering Tulip traded a gear she needed for a flower from a merchant and then later got said flower back for a pack of gum, the merchant being instantly enamored with both the flower and the gum and treating them as if they were rare treasures.
* ElementalEmbodiment: Is a water elemental with a somewhat goopy texture. He can also transform into different states of water like snow and steam.
* MakingASplash: He and his people (who are probably all extensions of himself) are made of water and can cause the sea to part.
* MellowFellow: He generally talks in a mild tone and does not seem to get upset or excited easily. He even agrees to double-cross The Cat without much fanfare.
* MetaphorIsMyMiddleName: When Tulip asks if he can slip through the cracks, Randall says, "That's my middle name. Randall Slip-Through-The-Cracks Randall."
* NiceGuy: A few prawns short of a galaxy, but he's a friendly fellow overall. Then again he did show a bit of bias towards Jesse in "The Lucky Cat Car, though he admits if it was his choice he would not do this."[[note]]In order to leave the car, MT and Jesse needed to obtain a combined score of 1000. However, MT was obtaining less points than Jesse with Randall explaining that passengers get more on the basis that they have to urgency to leave the car[[/note]]
* SelfDuplication: He can duplicate himself by splitting. It's uncertain whether each clone has a distinct consciousness or if he's just having conversations with himself.
* SenseFreak: He enjoys the sensation of being boiled.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: In "The Beach Car" he accidentally guilt trips Tulip about her decision to give One-One to The Cat, thus making Tulip go back to get him. [[spoiler:Knowing that The Cat was working for The Conductor this whole time ''and'' One-One was the true Conductor means that if Tulip didn't go back, Amelia would've made sure One-One could never remember his true purpose.]]
* SuperSpeed: He can keep up with and even overtake The Cat’s [[BuffySpeak ball car magnet thing]] with no assistance and while carrying Tulip inside of him.
* TalkingToThemself: Tends to do this whenever he makes copies of himself.
* UniformityException: Has a blade of grass floating inside him when he takes Tulip to a city of other water people (who otherwise look identical).

The deceased husband of the Conductor, Amelia Hughes.
----
* AliceAllusion: The first flashback in "The Past Car" showed him with a book report in regards to ''Alice in Wonderland'', with the two paragraphs talking about growing up and identity.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: He and Amelia have known each other since they were kids, which is probably what made his death even harder for Amelia.
* DarkIsNotEvil: He wore a black hoodie just like the Conductor, but he was a really sweet person in life.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Had blond hair and was such a sweet person.
* HiddenDepths: Given what Owen revealed about his death, it's likely that he participated in [[https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motocross motocross, a dirtbiking sport that originated in the UK]]. According to WordOfGod, he died from a dirt-biking accident.
* InTheHood: He was shown to be wearing a black hooded jacket.
* IronicName: His name means "old ruler"...but he's dead when Book 1 begins.
* LateArrivalSpoiler: He's mentioned in "The Hey Oh Whoa Car" when Amelia explains how she got on the train in the first place.
* TheLostLenore: Amelia's grief over his death is why she boarded the train, and her inability to let him go is why her number is so unfathomably high.
* MeaningfulName: His name is French for "old/noble ruler", which is probably a RedHerring to make people think that ''he'' was the Conductor and not his wife, Amelia.
* PlotTriggeringDeath: Had he not died, Amelia would have never gotten on the Infinity Train, and never tried to meddle with Tulip's quest, wouldn't have indirectly make Grace kickstart the Apex, and would never have made everyone's lives more miserable.
* PosthumousCharacter: He's only seen in flashbacks from Amelia's tape.
* RedHerring: Is thought to be the Conductor due to him wearing a similar black hooded jacket and the flashback having him use a voice modulator that emulates the Conductor's robotic voice. It turns out that it's actually his ''wife'' emulating those quirks to keep his memory alive.
* SatelliteCharacter: His biggest contribution to Book 1's plot is that he is the catalyst for Amelia's descent as the Conductor.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: Only appears in flashbacks in the penultimate episode of Book 1, but it's his death that sparks Amelia's trip to the Infinity Train and subsequently becoming the Conductor along with unintentionally creating the Apex in Books 2 and 3.
* SmartPeopleWearGlasses: He wears glasses, and is shown to be fairly intelligent.
* SweetTooth: He loved jelly, and in the first flashback of "The Past Car", he's eating out of an open jar of grape jelly on his desk. This explains the jelly on the road found in "The Unfinished Car".
* TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth: So good that his wife was unable to move on and tried to make other passengers aboard the Infinity Train miserable if she couldn't get him back.
* WalkingSpoiler: This character's ''entire existence'' is the biggest spoiler of Book 1. How big? His existence ties to the '''Conductor's''' true character.
