* BadassNormal: Compared to the other Quantic Dream protagonists. * LimitedWardrobe: He wears identical-looking gray suits (sometimes with a brown jacket over them) for most of the game. The only time he's seen wearing anything else is in the "Resignation" ending, where his shirt is black instead of white and the tie is absent.

* AgeGapRomance: Can potentially romance Madison, who is 11 years younger than him.

* AgeGapRomance: She can potentially become a LoveInterest to Ethan, who is 11 years older than her.

* AmbiguousDisorder: Ethan suspects himself of being a schizophrenic, but the symptoms he describes are more typical of dissociative identity disorder (often wrongly associated with schizophrenia) or extreme cases of post-traumatic stress disorder. * DarkAndTroubledPast: According to cut content, she was a reporter embedded with U.S. soldiers during the Iraq War. The horrors she witnessed in combat left her with some serious psychological scars. And then there's the stuff she went through in ''The Taxidermist''.

* GotOverRapeInstantly: Ethan can have an OptionalSexualEncounter with Madison who was attacked by a serial killer and nearly raped at gunpoint during the preceding day. This does not appear to cause issues for her in this encounter.
* GroinAttack: She seems to favor using this against her opponents.
* {{Handguns}}: Madison keeps a small pistol in her purse for self-defense that she uses to interrogate Paco. It's likely she started carrying it after her traumatic experience in ''The Taxidermist''.

** Having her own DLC, it is possible for Madison to be killed by Leland White, over those deaths are not canon since they take place before ''Heavy Rain''.
