Sakuya tries to defend him and Yuuya, striving to save the life in danger, snaps, "Why don't you try showing some concern for others once in a while, Sakuya?"

* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: To Anghel in the Drama CDs. Nageki translates Anghel's speaking into Japanese for Sakuya.

* BrokenAce: [[spoiler: as Uzune Hitori. He is described as a kind, caring, and talented young bird and the ideal young birdie that everyone wants their child to be. After the deaths of most of the Hatoful House children and later his brother, he becomes so depressed and insane that he tricks his best friend into a false suicide pact to claim said friend's identity. He remains just depressed and unstable from that point.]]

* DeadPersonImpersonation: [[spoiler: According to the guidebook, Hitori encountered a button quail named Kazuaki Nanaki a few months after Nageki's death. He assisted said quail in ''suicide'' and then swapped their identification papers, handing over the original Kazuaki's remains as his own.]]

* FromNobodyToNightmare: While alive, he was a timid, severely depressed button quail who believed he was nothing and couldn't even get himself to leave his apartment. After his untimely death, he is now an emotionally unstable EldritchAbomination who seeks to absorb any other soul passing by into his miasma in order to fulfill his desire for eternal friendship without betrayal. He's the undead lord of a dead kingdom, indeed.

* KansaiRegionalAccent: Translated as a Southern accent. Hiyoko gives him a little grief about it when they meet.

* SurpriseCreepy: When we first meet him, The King is a comical character who cries easily and relies on Nageki and Hiyoko to resolve minor disturbances in his kingdom, one of which is the possibility of rain on his castle. However, later we see [[GlamourFailure brief flashes]] where he grows a second discolored and deformed head... and the rest is in all his spoilered tropes.

* HiddenDepths: [[spoiler: He loves his brother so dearly that he'll throw everything away for him, he wants to protect people from Shuu but has been blackmailed into silence, and he's so secretive he has trouble telling anyone things that are important to him. He'll help selflessly if someone's in danger. Incredible guilt weighs him down and bears him onwards, [[TheAtoner trying to make up for it]].]] {{Lampshaded}} by Hiyoko.

* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler: In the Bad Boys Love route, he takes the killing blow meant for Sakuya from Doctor Shuu. Eventually subverted since [[DisneyDeath he is revealed to have survived]] in the extended ending of Bad Boys Love.]]

* ObfuscatingStupidity: [[spoiler: When you interact with him outside his route and BBL its seems like he's like a relentless flirt who doesn't care about school. However it's later revealed that he's a Dove Party agent spying on Dr. Shuu to obtain intelligence on Shuu's development of bioweapon technology!]]

* PoisonousFriend: More cynical and willing to do shady things than he initially seems.

* AluminumChristmasTrees: People in the LetsPlay thread were convinced that the photo used for his bird form was either a Photoshopped hoax or a bird that had been shot. Bleeding-heart doves are in fact real, and the red stain on their chest is natural.

* TheCuckoolanderWasRight / MadOracle: If you play the Bad Boys Love route, his insane ramblings about "[[spoiler:demon spores]]" suddenly make a lot more sense.
** In the context of his route's ending, [[spoiler: he's right about everything. There is a Tree of Blight, the protagonist is Edel Blau, and Shuu really is exactly who Anghel thinks he is.]] Though to be fair, everyone is very aware that Shuu is ObviouslyEvil.

* SpellMyNameWithAnS: The English translation spells his name as Ang'''h'''el, but many people call him Angel instead.
** Probably because this was how fans originally romanized his name, before the official translation changed it.
** May count as a bilingual bonus as Anghel means Angel in the Filipino language, his land of origin.

* GrumpyBear: Has shades of this. Is often referred to as "grumpy" by more cheerful characters, and especially gives off this vibe in his interactions with Miru and Karu; when the two decorate the infirmary for the holidays, Shuu does little more than grumble about it.

* AwesomeMcCoolname: The name "Anghel Higure" literally means "crimson scarlet angel." The way "Higure" is rendered involves the characters for two different shades of red.
** His real name, [[spoiler: Yoshio Akagi]], is also not too bad despite how he freaks out about it. [[spoiler: The kanji chosen for Akagi means "red tree" (which shows significance at the RPG battle that finishes his route in the form of Himnesia) and his first name, Yoshio, means "righteous man" (a shout-out to his belief that he is an angel).]]

* SeldomSeenSpecies: It's likely that ''Hatoful Boyfriend'' is the first time players have ever encountered a Chukar Partridge character in media. Unfortunately this may mean players will then associate Chukar Partridges in general with [[spoiler:a cold, calculating, murderous antagonist]]...

* SeldomSeenSpecies: Anghel Higure may be the first time players have ever encountered a species of bird whose plumage make it seem like it's ''bleeding from its chest.''

* HotBlooded: As a part of his Hammy Chuunbiyo based persona he is nearly always yelling and causing a fuss.

* MeaningfulRename: Like many Chuunibiyo characters he takes the fantasy based name he made for himself very seriously. [[spoiler: Assumedly part of what makes it meaningful as prior to any experiments he likely had no issues going by his given at birth name.]]

* TinySchoolboy: [[WordOfGod Amusingly, Moa's statement on her image of the cast's ICPSS heights is not solid and only that "Anghel is not tall"]], and even in his feathery form other characters have pointed out that the loud noises are coming from a small bird. This seems to only add on to his self-consciousness about his perceived maturity. You can even note he wears platform boots in his human form; probably in an attempt to make himself appear taller!

* BandageBabe: His IPCSS portrait depicts him with bandages covering his left eye and chest.

* WholesomeCrossdresser: He has a tendency of showing up in female clothing throughout the game. You will always see Ryouta in a maid's uniform for the MaidCafe, and if you follow him down his route you'll find he also works at a transvestite cafe... and he goes by the name "Coolene". Of course, he's working there so he can support his mother, but you can ask him to get a different job.

* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: In his ICPSS portrait.

* {{Expy}}: Could be one of Draco Malfoy from ''Literature/HarryPotter'', given his classism and his obsession with being "pureblood". They pretty much have the exact same [[{{Jerkass}} personality]], too, [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold at least at first glance]]. Sakuya's human portrait even looks like Malfoy as if he had [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair light blue hair]] instead of light blond. Though Malfoy isn't a bird.

* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: His distinct green hair in his ICPSS portrait.

* IAteWhat: [[spoiler:In Shuu's route, she eats a lovely roast that Shuu sent her for Christmas, only to discover later that it was Yuuya's body that Shuu had to dispose of.]]

* CreepyCoolCrosses: His IPCSS portrait shows him wearing these.

* TheCracker / PlayfulHacker: Apparently a genius-level computer hacker, with skills that Sakuya speculates were honed in secret over many years... pirating pornography on the internet. [[spoiler: It's more probable he learned it working for the Dove Party.]]

He is the homeroom teacher for your class and specializes in math. He frequently falls asleep, even while in the middle of teaching.

* AllLoveIsUnrequited: [[spoiler: Combined with IncompatibleOrientation, the BBL route reveals that he had a crush on Ryuuji, Ryouta's father]]. Fittingly, Chukar partridges are associated with intense but unrequited love in mythology.
* AxeCrazy: Well, his introduction does outright mention his creepy nature and bad reputation among the student body. Though you only learn the full extent of his terrifying nature near the end of his routes and during BBL.

* HerrDoktor: Shuu isn't of European origin at all. However, the vaguely Germanic nickname Anghel [[TheNicknamer gives]] Shuu, "Dark Sorcerer Wallenstein," nicely highlights the latter's sinister mad scientist nature.

* HospitalHottie / HotScientist: A combination of both.

Ryouta's father, who died when he was young. [[spoiler:He worked in the same research laboratory as Shuu, then known as Souma Isa, and died from a disease he contracted on a study trip abroad. Whilst alive, he was head of the biology department]].

* DisappearedDad: Natural result of dying while he son was young, but the unfortunate result nonetheless.

The editor-in-chief for Golden Weekly, a manga magazine. He scouts Anghel as a potential contributor to his magazine, citing his artistic potential. [[spoiler: He previously worked in the same research laboratory as Ryuuji and Isa, albeit in a different division (the Second Optical Weapons Division). Disgruntled with being constantly overlooked in favor of Isa, he eventually left in search of somewhere that would appreciate his talent more]].

* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: [[spoiler: While sensitive guy Kazuaki is timid, insecure and somewhat [[IncrediblyLamePun flighty]], manly man Hitori is assertive, self-confident, and proactive, though also nurturing. The fact that Kazuaki is a literature student and Hitori is a math/science student might also fit the stereotype.]]
* ShoutOut: The King seems at least partially inspired by The King in ''Literature/TheLittlePrince''. Both are royalty who live on their own planets. [[spoiler: They both seem lonely since they don't have any real subjects, yet their own selfishness is what ultimately drives their visitors away.]]

* FeaturelessProtagonist: Hiyoko has a strong, vivid personality, but there is no canon appearance for her, nor does she have a voice actress. In the manga her speech balloons feature cartoon pictures of meat to indicate that she's the speaker, and in the (ridiculous) [[http://mangapark.com/manga/hatoful-kareshi/s1/c13/1 mushroom chapter]] she's shown completely concealed by mushrooms and apparently is quite physically expressive!
