* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: Both the Dairangers and the [[Series/HikariSentaiMaskman Maskmen]] are a Sentai team of martial artists and users of aura-based powers. However, the Maskmen formed in modern times who uses various types of martial arts and a hybrid between mystic & technology in their arsenals, wheareas the Dairangers are a LegacyCharacter who took the mantle from their predecessors from ancient times who uses Chinese martial arts and has pyre mystical powers in their arsenals.

* {{Expy}}: He's very similar to [[Franchise/StarWars Darth Vader]] in both appearance (being a BlackKnight) and role in story (having a [[LukeIAmYourFather personal relationship with the main hero]], being a FallenHero, and finally [[RedemptionEqualsDeath betraying his boss to save his son, dying in the process]]. For bonus points, he even serves a superior villain who himself can be considered an Expy of Darth Sidious himself.

* AllForNothing: [[spoiler: Plots the entire series to become the Gorma Emperor and gain the Earth Ground Shaking Jewel. Shortly after he achieves this, his battle with the Dairangers attracts Daijinryu, and Jewel itself flees to appease him. To top it all off, when attempting to escape the destruction of the Gorma palace, Shadam is mortally wound with knife by Ryo.]]

* BlueAndOrangeMorality: As mentioned before, this being does not think in terms of good and evil as we do. Instead, it thinks more in terms of order and chaos. Order is so precious to Daijinryuu that it casually kills thousands of people to send out a simple warning.

* CurbStompBattle: His first rampage on Earth ends with him interrupting a fight between Dairen'oh and Great Famous Pachinko Player. Daijinryu [[GiantFootOfStomping stomps on and kills the latter]] before reducing Dairen'oh to [=RyuSeiOh=] with a single attack. Daimugen attempts to save the Dairangers, but Daijinryu nearly crushes him. [[spoiler: He only stops because Kaku cut a deal with a Gorma, and since the conflict has ceased, he leaves.]]

* EarthShatteringKaboom: Is very clearly intending to do this if the battle between the Dairangers and Gorma tribe does not stop.
* EldritchAbomination: A rather mild example in terms of looks, as it clearly resembles an Asian Dragon. But it's way of thinking and power is incomprehensible to both sides of the conflict.

* GreaterScopeVillain: Is easily the biggest threat the Dairangers face, and one they cannot overcome. The the danger he will return is one that looms over them for the rest of the series after he first appears since their actions could bring about his return any given moment.

* OurDragonsAreDifferent: In this case, a dragon is 500 meters long, being easily able to stomp on the mecha of the Dairangers, has godly powers, and is tasked to preserve peace.

He was once a great hero who sold out his allies to the bad guys and became a BlackKnight, and has a LukeIAmYourFather moment with TheHero (who also has a sister). Watching his son being tortured by the villain he serves, triggers his [[RedemptionEqualsDeath final redemption and death]].

* {{Expy}}: While Choryo is an obvious DarthVaderClone, Saw appears to have been derived from Emperor Palpatine, down to shooting lightning from his hands.

* DarthVaderClone: He's a rather obvious {{Expy}} of Darth Vader. He was once a great hero who sold out his allies to the bad guys and became a BlackKnight, and has a LukeIAmYourFather moment with TheHero (who also has a sister).

* WhatTheHellHero: [[spoiler:From [[GhostAdvisor beyond the grave]]]] Jin delivers one to Ryou when the latter is about to give up after Kaku has disbanded the Dairangers to prevent Daijinryuu from coming back to Earth and destroying the world.

* WhatTheHellHero: [[spoiler:From [[GhostAdvisor beyond the grave]]]] Jin delivers one to Ryou when he's about to give up after the Dairangers have been soundly beaten by an ascended Shadam.

* NotInThisForYourRevolution: Zydos looks forward to use Jin as a powerful enemy to defeat the Dairangers with, and offers to empower him in hopes to sway Jin to his side. Jin takes the power boost from Zydos, but then kicks him off, making it clear that he won't serve him, claiming he obeys no one, and leaves. Though this doesn't prevent Zydos from using him anyway.

* FreudianExcuse: His own master treated him poorly, cutting off his hand.

* TheOmnipotent: Nothing in the Dairangers’ and Gorma Tribe’s arsenal has any hope of even scratching this creature. In fact, he almost crushed the Dairangers' mecha when they tried to fight them. The only reason why this didn't happen, was because Daijinryuu stopped on its own volition. [[spoiler: In the finale we see he's so powerful that the [[ArtifactOfDoom Earth Ground Shaking Jewel]] the Dairangers' Lai-Lai Jewels will scatter to appease his rather, showing that even their power is insignificant next to him.]]

* {{Jerkass}}: His final plan was to blackmail Ko to join the Gorma with his mother's life. When he did not comply he blew her away so Ko could never find her again and slightly rubs it in his face before [[spoiler:he dies the first time]]

* MissingMom: Subverted. [[spoiler:She was captured and held by Gorma the entire time. He used her as hostage in fact]]

* MentorOccupationalHazard: [[spoiler: He does downplay this trope a bit, as he only dies near the finale of the series, meaning his death is not the motivation for the heroes to fight the bad guys]]
* MrExposition: He almost always tells the Dairangers about what kind of Gorma MonsterOfTheWeek they are fighting now, explaining what their strengths and weaknesses are. [[spoiler: It is very logical he knows these things, as he was part of Gorma a while ago]]

* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: appears to be an overweight socially awkward man with an obsession for turtles. [[spoiler: In reality, he is the most powerful Qi Beast of them all; Daimugen]]

* LetsGetDangerous: [[spoiler: Initially refused to take part in the battles until he learned his friend Kazu was in trouble, at which point, he accepts his Qi crystal and fights wholeheartedly.]]
* MeaningfulName: 'Kame' is Japanese for turtle; an animal he really really likes. [[spoiler: He also is a very powerful Qi Beast in the shape of a giant turtle.]]
