* NiceHat: A large sombrero which extends out to both shoulders.

* {{Bandito}}: Takes the worst traits of the bandito UpToEleven. A drug-addicted LargeHam who stalks women, murders families, rigs duels, and takes trophies from his victims, he spends most of the film in an opium-induced haze, while plotting to use Monco and Colonel Mortimer to do his dirty work, wiping out his gang and leaving all the money from his robberies for him. In a departure from some of the stereotypes of the time, he's easily as smart, or smarter, than the film's protagonists.

* HateSink: H'es a sadistic, psychopathic and a disgusting bandit, him slaughtering someone's family and forces him to watch it and raping someone's sister which causes her to commit suicide just shows how horrible and unsympathetic he is.

* WouldHurtAChild: Ordering his men to kill a baby is setting the tone for how depraved he really is.

* HateSink: Hes a sadistic, psychopathic and a disgusting bandit, him slaughtering someones family and forces him to watch it and raping someones sisters which causes her to commit suicide just shows how horrible and unsympathetic he is.

* PracticallyJoker: Probably an unintentional example, but El Indio is practically ComicBook/TheJoker from TheWildWest. He's a [[AxCrazy deranged]], {{sadist}}ic, {{sociopath}}ic, [[StrawNihilist nihilistic]] monster who commits evil acts ForTheEvulz, has a MysteriousPast, and his nemesis [[DarkIsNotEvil wears black]].

* ActorAllusion: Lee Van Cleef had played bandits and such in the earlier part of his career before this role redefined his type. Early on, when depositing his savings, he makes a point of putting himself in a bandit's shoes and asking the bank teller what the hardest bank for him to rob would be, so that he'll know the absolute safest place for him to deposit his money.

* BreakingOutTheBoss: His first scene is him leading four other gang members, including Cuchillo and Luke in breaking out El Indio.
