** Yuna was also chosen to represent ''FF X-2'', along with her cousin, Rikku, in [[Creator/MontyOum Monty Oum's]] ''WebAnimation/DeadFantasy''. During the series, they're cast as [[VideoGame/DeadOrAlive Kasumi and Ayane's]] designated rivals (respectively).
** And she eventually became a playable character in ''[[VideoGame/DissidiaDuodecim Dissidia Duodecim 012]]''.

* LoveableRogue: For all intents and purposes, she's basically a pirate. Right down to sailing the waters of Spira with a motley crew; which includes her brother. In part 2, she and The Wingulls are sphere hunters, who travel aboard [[CoolAirship The Celsius.]] Meaning, she's an [[SkyPirate air pirate]]... and easily one of the nicest ones you'll meet.

* SoleSurvivor: Of the pilgrimage he, Braska, and Jecht undertook, he's the only one who survived. [[SubvertedTrope Except [[DeadAllAlong he didn't.]]]]

** MasterOfNone: For a large majority of the game he'll basically be just an inferior version of whatever person he shares a sphere grid path with. Not helping is the fact that his InfinityPlusOneSword is commonly considered downright impossible to unlock.

* JackOfAllTrades: Has the smallest path in the Sphere Grid, but can make up for it by having a choice of the other characters' paths except for Auron's, though a few detours or a simple Teleport Sphere is enough to pop him onto that path. Teaching him a little of everything makes for excellent back-up in just about any role, like a support mage who can cast Esuna if Yuna is incapacitated. The trade-off is that he's also a...
** MasterOfNone: For a large majority of the game he'll basically be just an inferior version of whatever person he shares a sphere grid path with. Not helping is the fact that his InfinityPlusOne weapon is commonly considered downright impossible to unlock.

* NervesOfSteel: One of his random lines when entering the battle is "I foresee no difficulty". Even when it's just him facing down a Dark Aeon.

* CrutchCharacter: Early in the game, Lulu will be the heaviest hitter thanks to her magic, which will also be crucial in several boss fights. Come post game however, the tides start to turn, especially if/when the player completes Yuna's Sphere grid and move her on to start learning Lulu's magic. That said, Lulu remains quite powerful in her own right throughout the game.

* FragileSpeedster: He starts off as this, with very high starting speed and agility but low strength.

* LightningBruiser: Towards the end of his path, he starts becoming reasonably strong. While he lacks the punch of [[MightyGlacier Auron]], he can strike close to three times before Auron gets a second turn. With both Haste and Quick Hit, he verges on BladeSpam territory.

* AntiAir: Of a sort. He has very good starting Accuracy, making him the only character who can reliably hit flying enemies with his basic attack early on in the game. Other characters will catch up to him in this over the course of the game, though.

* AllJustADream: [[spoiler:A very rare case of an inversion. Spira is real, Tidus himself is just a dream.]]
* AlwaysSaveTheGirl: As the ultimate aim of Yuna's mission is, in fact, [[spoiler:to die]], ''FFX'' is truly a test of this trope.
* AlwaysSecondBest: He'll always be "[--the son of--] Jecht."

* AncestralWeapon: The Brotherhood used to belong to Chappu, Wakka's brother. Wakka decides to entrust the sword to Tidus, because he reminds Wakka of Chappu. It also [[RuleOfSymbolism symbolizes]] the brotherly bond the two develop later on.

* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:A possible variant in the sequel game. At the end of the first game, he vanishes after Sin is defeated once and for all because the dream of Zanarkand, which he's a part of, depended on it for its continued existence. However, if you get the best ending in X-2, then he's resurrected as a real person and reunited with Yuna]].
** [[spoiler:And again in the Final Fantasy X-2.5 ~Eien no Daishou~ novel after he is blown up (no, really) after kicking a bomb he thought was a blitzball.]]

* BodyguardCrush: Notably, his affection for Yuna is one of the main reasons he becomes her Guardian. [[spoiler:Likewise, Yuna has also fallen head-over-heels for Tidus, and the two finally hook up in Macalania Woods when Tidus tries to comfort her]].
* CallingTheOldManOut: Tidus has waited years for this. When he finally has the chance, [[spoiler:he can only "call him out" because he's expected to, but he has sympathized too much with Jecht to mean a word of it]].

** This is a nice thought, but sadly it's actually a result of his voice actor being given bad direction. James Arnold Taylor believed Tidus was narrating events from well into the future, and gave him a considerably older voice for those parts. It doesn't match up with the the youthful voice that Tidus uses [[spoiler:even after the game catches up with his narration]].
** At Mount Gagazet, [[spoiler:he learns he's a fictional creation and he'll disappear if Sin is destroyed for good. He reacts with no angst or hesitation, and continues ahead with the plan, willing to die for the same exact reason he's tried to turn Yuna away from]]. This is a far cry from the selfish, juvenile, stubbornly dismissive Tidus we've known through most of the game.

* TheChosenZero: As with the previous game's Zidane, his personality seems to be a throwback to more bumbling ''Final Fantasy'' heroes like Bartz and Locke.
* ClassicalAntiHero: Much of Tidus' development revolves around overcoming this. He's plagued by his [[AlwaysSecondBest inferiority complex]] [[WellDoneSonGuy over his dad]], is completely clueless to all the politics happening around him, and even considers himself the outsider of the group.

* DecoyProtagonist: [[ZigZaggingTrope Zig-zagged]]. The story starts with him and stays like this for a while. When Yuna shows up, she becomes the center of attention and the heroine, with Tidus stepping into the role of SupportingProtagonist for her. This is an arguably necessary perspective for the player to be introduced to the mysterious world of Spira alongside him, [[FishOutOfTemporalWater who knows nothing of it]]. The story still retains an important plot point ([[spoiler:Sin is Jecht]]) that is directly related to him, and [[spoiler:''much'' later, he jumps into the spotlight by forcing the group to TakeAThirdOption, giving the story its most important twist and becoming the hero and protagonist once again, it being ''Tidus'' who has to perform the HeroicSacrifice in the end instead of Yuna]].

* EmotionsVsStoicism: His contrast with Yuna. Emotion eventually wins out.
* FacingTheBulletsOneLiner: [[spoiler:"I know it's selfish... BUT THIS IS ''MY'' STORY!"]]

* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:He's willing to go along with the Fayth's plan to stop the cycle once and for all, even if it means he will cease to exist]].

* AHeroToHisHometown: Star player of the Zanarkand Abes! ''(waits for applause)''
* HowWeGotHere: Tidus is the {{narrator}} of ''X'', telling the player the story (and his thoughts on the matter) up the group's campfire at the ruins of Zanarkand.
* IconicItem: The aforementioned pendant he wears around his neck, which is the insignia of the Zanarkand Abes, the blitzball team he and his father played for. [[spoiler:Yuna wears a similar pendant in the sequel, representing her memories of him]].
* IKnowMaddenKombat: Tidus had never fought fiends before the events of the game, but he's able to adapt his Blitzball skills (Which is a pretty brutal underwater sport) into a rough, but effective fighting style. Wakka later notes that, for a "Newbie", he can handle himself pretty well in a fight.

* JerkassRealization: He had a brief one when he realized that the entire time he'd talked to Yuna about what they would do after she beat Sin, she was stoically accepting the fact that [[spoiler:there wouldn't ''be'' an after, because she'd be dead]]. In his defense, no one clued him in to this fact until after all that had happened.

* LaserGuidedTykebomb and TheChosenOne: [[spoiler:He was sent by the Fayth to the ''real'' Spira to end Yu Yevon's [[ViciousCycle Spiral of Death]]]].

* NaiveNewcomer: At first.

* NoOntologicalInertia: [[spoiler:Yu Yevon created Dream Zanarkand and all of its inhabitants, including Jecht and Tidus. Once Yu Yevon is defeated, Tidus disappears. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] in that both Sin and Dream Zanarkand are being summoned by the same Fayth; once Sin is finally defeated, they can stop dreaming.]]

* NumberTwo: Finds himself to be the Unofficial Vice-Captain of the Besaid Aurochs. [[spoiler:He even serves as Captain when Wakka sits out of the championship match.]]

Tidus does not give a crap about social norms and definitely lives by his own moral code, he is plenty charismatic, he will have Yuna live and be happy, even if all of Spira wants her to sacrifice herself. * UnskilledButStrong: Though his damage output is hampered by his lack of experience with a sword, the fact remains that he's a skilled athlete who can hold his breath for five minutes (the time of a Blitzball half) in a game that, in cutscenes at least, is shown to be pretty violent.

The daughter of the previous high summoner, Braska, she becomes a summoner herself at the start of the game.

In ''X-2'', she searches for clues about Tidus' whereabouts after finding a sphere that appears to show him imprisoned, resulting in her getting involved in the politics of the Eternal Calm-era Spira.

* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: She gives one to Tidus in the ending of the game...[[spoiler:just before he disappears.]]

* BagOfSpilling: {{Justified|Trope}} due to the ending of ''X''. She may have lost the Aeons [[spoiler:due to them being closely related to the Fayth]], but her AdrenalineMakeover makes up for it in ''X-2''. Also played straight with her white magic spells. In ''X-2'', she has to learn them from scratch from the White Mage dressphere, just like Rikku and Paine.

It takes the revelation of Rikku and Yuna's Al Bhed heritage, a collective telling off of him by her and the others, the destruction of Home, the revelation of Yevon's deep corruption, multiple assassination attempts on the party, and finally, the truth that Sin can never be destroyed by the Final Aeon for him to ''finally'' wise up for good.]]

* ArmorPiercingSlap: You'd be expecting that she did this to Luzzu upon finding out that [[spoiler:he's the one who convinced Chappu to join the Crusaders' doomed-to-fail operation]], but it turns out that Lulu had already been told, and hit him when he did.

* BrokenBird: [[spoiler:Of the two previous summoners she guarded, one had a faith crisis and abandoned, and the other died without Lulu being able to protect her. Also, her boyfriend died trying to fight Sin.]] No wonder she's such an IceQueen at first.

* HeartbrokenBadass: She was dating Chappu before he died fighting Sin.

* ImprobableWeaponUser: She somehow [[MarionetteMaster manipulates dolls to attack her foes]] (according to the scan description, not even ''Wakka'' understands how she does it), although they're put to better use as a focus for her magic.

* MaleGaze:
** Take a good look at how the FMV introduces her. Take a good look at where Tidus' eyes wander when he's using the binoculars on the S.S. Liki. [[OverlyLongGag Take a good look]] at where the camera often focuses on her VictoryPose.

* MamaBear: Towards Yuna in the beginning, toward Tidus once she warms up to him, and towards Rikku [[spoiler:starting around the time Home is destroyed.]]

* HulkSpeak: A trait common with all Ronsos.

One of Jecht's old friends, whom Tidus has known for some time. It is revealed that in Spira, he was one of the legendary guardians of the last successful summoner, Braska. [[spoiler: It turns out that Braska sacrificed his life and Jecht became the Final Aeon to defeat Sin, an outcome Auron was highly displeased with. He attacked Yunalesca and was killed, but remained as an unsent in order to break the cycle.]]

* FailureKnight: A twist on the trope in that he technically ''succeeded'' in his mission by it's original definition: He was to keep Braska alive until he reached Zanarkand, [[spoiler: where the Final Summoning would kill him.]] However, he had re-defined his mission as Guardian to "keep Braska alive and find a way to take Sin down permanently." [[spoiler: Braska performed the Summoning and was killed]], so Auron feels that he failed in his mission and is now motivated to protect Braska's daughter to make up for it.
* FormerTeenRebel: Inverted; Auron was an upstanding monk in the old days. It was not until Braska'a Final Summoning that Auron realized that his years of service to Yevon [[ReligionOfEvil were wasted]].

** FridgeBrilliance: [[spoiler:Of course he can handle whatever's in there, ''he's already dead''!]]
** [[AllThereInTheManual If you can translate the spiran script on the bottle]] [[spoiler: it says "Nog"]].

* HeroicBSOD: He got ''really'' messed up when [[spoiler:Jecht and Braska both died, and even more so when finding out that it all was in vain]]. Despite a few scenes, it's never quite shown, but [[ShellShockedSenior the result]] is clear.

* IGaveMyWord: To find a portal to Jecht's Zanarkand, and watch over Tidus in his stead. Sound impossible? Not for this guy.

* TheObiWan: An odd example: while Auron ''succeeded'' in helping Braska finish the pilgrimage, [[spoiler:his failure to stop Braska and Jecht's SenselessSacrifice only served to continue Spira's ViciousCycle]]. It's a spin on being a FailureKnight.

* ShipperOnDeck: His advice for Tidus definitely seems to be a nudge towards Yuna's direction.

* SoleSurvivor: Of the pilgrimage he, Braska, and Jecht undertook, he's the only one who survived. [[spoiler: [[SubvertedTrope Except]] [[DeadAllAlong he didn't.]]]]

** NotSoStoic: His younger self was a lot more hot headed than he is now. [[spoiler: [[IHatePastMe Watching his younger self fail to think of a way to save Braska and Jecht causes him to lose composure in front of the entire group.]]]]

* TheUndead: As an [[spoiler:unsent, he would fall closely to a revenant.]]

* WeUsedToBeFriends: He and Kinoc are not on good terms at the moment, but it's implied that they used to get along. [[spoiler:And Auron is upset by Seymour killing Kinoc]].
* YoungerThanTheyLook: Few would guess he's supposed to be thirty-five. [[spoiler:Especially given that he died a decade earlier and thus looks the same as he did at ''twenty-five''!]]

At the end of which [[spoiler: Yuna was to sacrifice herself to defeat Sin.]] But Tidus and the others foil her scheme[[note]]not realizing it was Rikku they were fighting at the time[[/note]], so she figured 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em' [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FPKmKYyBA4 and became one of Yuna's guardians.]]

* DangerouslyShortSkirt: Her famously risque [[http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy/images/6/64/Rikku.jpg thong bikini/micro-skirt combo]] provides the page image.

* FearOfThunder: She's had an acute fear of lightning ever since [[spoiler: her brother accidentally hit her with a botched Thundaga spell]], when they were kids. But she eventually got over it by forcing herself to camp out in the Thunder Plains for a week.

* GettingCrapPastTheRadar: When Tidus meets up with her again [[spoiler:after she tries to kidnap Yuna by way of HumongousMecha]], Rikku, completely in MaleGaze, strips out of her ''wet'' FormFittingWardrobe, lovingly rendered in full [=FMV=] graphics.

* HollywoodAtheist: Averted. All Al Bhed believe in the power of science over Yevon, but Rikku offers some perfectly reasonable justifications for her lack of belief in spiritual matters. There's also the fact that she believes in an afterlife of sorts, as shown from when she tells Yuna, and later Tidus, [[spoiler:that she'll "see them again"]]. It's really more like she's an AgentScully, who has ''a'' spiritual belief; just not the "main" one, as it were. It's ultimately Justified, since in Spira people can ''physically visit'' the Farplane.

* TheSmartGuy: She can work machina and has a 'mix' overdrive to create new abilites.

* {{Stripperific}}: In ''X-2''. Get this - her bikini in the hot spring scene and her 'bare' dressphere are less revealing than her default outfit.

Only appears in ''Final Fantasy X-2''. The third member of the heroines, [[spoiler:who was once part of a task force composed of herself, Nooj, Baralai, and Gippal that entered the Den of Woe, which resulted in Shuyin possessing Nooj and turning him against his comrades]]. For her, the journey is largely about finding answers to the questions in her own past.

* BadassBack: Her usual fighting stance.

* DefrostingIceQueen: She's naturally distant from people who try to befriend her [[spoiler: probably because one of the last few people she considered friends shot her]].

* HiddenDepths: Speaks fluent Al Bhed, a skill she doesn't reveal until late in the game, [[spoiler:which she probably learned from Gippal, from her days as a Crimson Squad recorder]].

He seeks Yuna's hand in marriage to bring peace to Spira, [[spoiler:but in reality, plans on becoming one with Sin in order to kill as many people as he can to bring them peace, in his mind]]. Oh, and just in case the above quote didn't tip you off, he's a [[SarcasmMode perfectly sane individual]] [[ObviouslyEvil who could never be accused]] [[OmnicidalManiac of doing anything wrong]].

Much more experienced than Yuna, Belgemine willingly offers to train her to enhance her preparedness to take on Sin, and makes several appearances throughout the game to train her aeons. She resides in Remiem Temples in the Calm Lands, where [[spoiler: [[DeadAllAlong she's revealed to be an unsent, having died in her battle against Sin, and has returned from the Farplane to ensure that Yuna or any other summoner does not suffer the same fate.]]
